I finished the latest chapter, but decided to clean up the grammar and spelling of the rest of the fic, before posting it.

Prologue

Biography of Ancient Gallifrey

Rassillon, alongside his mate Omega, were once simple engineers... well... perhaps "Simple" wasn't the right word to describe them. They had never been simple, nor ordinary, but they hadn't been born kings.

They were once mere Gallifreyans. Though, like all of their species, they already had two hearts and other such redundant organs. This all but guaranteed them a lifetime of 3000 years, which could be extended further with proper medical care. Still this was long before the discovery of the regeneration process.

She, as Rassillion had started life as a she, was initially regarded as a superior engineer and architect. Known as a solar engineer, one of a small number of the elite Gallifreyan Scientists. Her mate, the Omega, had a similar title.

Before these two were even born, the Gallifreyans had been exploring space for millenniums... though they had grown stagnant. Purely due to the lack of things to explore.

Most of what they found, outside their own binary solar system, was still developing space dust. Maybe the occasional star, with planets beginning to form around it... but no other true planets, and certainly not life.

Gallifrey, was the first world to manifest. And the only known world to support life.

It was of particular shock, when Rassillion stumbled on a lost child... an alien, that had fallen from a crack in the universe... a child from another dimension... With no way to return the child, Rassillion decided to adopt him... The unexpected parents, spent years in happy ignorance... until the child had an accident... and died... only to get right back up with a brand new body.

Through the child, Rassillion discovered the nature of regeneration energy. And graphed it to herself.

Later the child, with the aid of Rassillion and Omega, led their planet into a golden age. Uniting the warring tribes, through the promise of regeneration. Limiting the extra lives to just 12, while giving the ruling class an infinite supply. That way their planet wouldn't suffer from a truly immortal race, while still maintaining the same ruling council of honorable individuals.

There was additional genetic engineering done to each citizen. Starting with making it so the infinite regeneration couldn't be passed on, genetically. Their offsprings regeneration energy would be limited to 12, that's 13 faces, per individual.

As well as to limit the bodies libido, while incorporating a reproductive cycle of a "Heat", once per regeneration. Though they could reproduce at any time, they had low desire to do so outside of their reproductive cycle.

However, this heat wouldn't start until after regeneration. Which caused the first face not to experience such a thing, at all. Though not by design, culturally, this resulted in the first body being viewed as "innocent". Which inevitably evolved into their "Childhood".

The child that inadvertently caused all this, simply by existing, later calling herself "The Other", ruled in her own right. As Princess of Gallifrey. As a Spiritual Symbol.

Eventually, this trinity made another discovery... Time Travel.

Gallifreyans had always had a special connection with time. Due to a time rift on their planet, that opened up to look directly into the time Vortex itself. The Gallifreyans had evolved to be living manifestations of time itself. They could perceive the 4th dimension of time, greater then any race of psychics that would ever develop.

Though their perception merely allowed them a compression of history, as if out of a children's text book. They saw everything that had happened, was happening, could happen... and must never happen. However, they knew only the key events, as the finer details were a mystery to them.

The Gallifreyans, instinctually wanted to explore time, to learn these finer details. And while the exploration of space proved inefficient, the technology developed for such a task was crucial to the discovery of Time Travel.

A type of energy based construct, which early Gallifreyans considered holy, grew near this "Untempered Schism", as the rift was known. and they became a key component in Time Capsules. Often being used as the "Matrix" of the device.

It was later discovered these energy constructs were Sapient... Though thankfully they liked being installed into Time Capsules, in order to travel about the universe.

Eventually, other advancements were discovered, to improved time travel further, making it actually practical.

Rassillion and Omega, with the help of the Other, created a type of living metal, called validium. Then used it to create the Hand of Omega, a stellar manipulator. This allowed them to Quantum Lock the astral body of a dying star, just before it became a black hole. To use that as part of the engine of their time Capsules. The Gauntlet also could accelerate the decay of a star, and was used to create an artificial black hole. Though they usually stopped the star, and locked it in an inbetween phase, to be used as a part for their new Time Capsules.

These stars were then compressed, and placed into the Time Capsules. They were known as the "Eye of Harmony".

Rassillion continued his experiments, as he was now a he, with the Eye of Harmony. inevitably creating a map for time travel. Through this an Elite force was created, the Time Lords, to which The Other was the first. They started as Explores, meant to make contact with any possible intelligent lifeforms that would develop... few were found but they did exist. It was possible for life to develop... though they were much unlike their own.

Eventually, Interstellar and Time Travel wasn't enough for the Gallifreyians. They decided to explore the Untempered Schism, itself. Omega volunteered to go through. This created a backlash throughout time. Causing new species to evolve across all of reality. Lifeforms that looked Gallifreyian, but with completely different biologies... and sadly... Omega was lost...

Soon after, interdimensional travel was attempted... and this time The Other was lost... it is said Rassillion went mad with guilt. That his only available course was to wrap himself in apathy and cruelty.

Biography of The Doctor

Billions of years later, long after Rassillion stopped caring about things like "morality" during his rule, a reincarnation of the Other was born... though Rassillion was too ashamed to claim him, due to the child's polluted blood.

Alexandermacedon Sigmaakronosvexsithkada, was the son of a Time Lady from a respectable family. Not so respectable was the fact she experienced a heat well on mission. While such things are not uncommon, she chose to mate with a lower lifeform called a "Human". If that wasn't bad enough... she decided to not only go through with the pregnancy, but keep the child.

She was cast out of her noble house, for shaming it, and died, due to a life of poverty (from lack of food to inefficient health care). At 7, her son was orphaned, and sent to an orphanage.

He later chose the name "The Doctor" after his right of passage ceremony at 8. The name was a promise "To never be Cruel or Cowardly. To Never Give up, never give in." as the word means in Gallifreyian.

From their he continued his career as a promising student, at the Academy. Despite some behavioral issues, such as constantly correcting his teachers, and frequently arguing with them over the purpose of even the most basic assignments. That was often attributed to the flaws of his human blood, forcing him to question the state of things instead of just accepting his place within the system. They claimed it was Human ambition at its worse... if they only knew...

When the boy was a mere 42, or rather the human equivalent of 12, he applied for an apprenticeship to the Time Lords of Gallifrey. He managed to accumulate a "Mastery Level" in nearly every field of academia. Something that takes, most Time Tots, the entirety of their first life... millenniums worth of knowledge, accumulated within the first 12 years of his life. Even his teachers were forced to acknowledge, the ambition of humanity was a terrifying thing, when added to the superior intellect of a Gallifreyian.

The Time Lord Institute disagreed, believing the Doctor's human taint made him unworthy of them...

After he was rejected by the Time Lords, The Doctor and his best friend, "The Master", stole a Time Capsule... though not the one that would eventually become his signature transport.

The two went in search of The Doctor's human father. One King Philip II. However their Capsule, due to neither boy being properly trained in piloting it, crashed. Though at least at their destination. In what would eventually be called "Ancient Greece". With the ship needing decades to repair itself, the boys were trapped. So the King decided to raise the boys himself, and conceal their origins.

The King believed he had bedded with a god, and that by extension, the Doctor was a demigod. While believing the Master was another Celestial child his son had befriended. He took both of the boys into his home. The Master, who was given the name "Hephaestion", by the King (as the boy claimed his real name was too holy to be comprehended by a human), was raised alongside the Doctor. Though left more to the nurturing of his tutors and nursemaids.

When they grew up, by human standards, the Doctor believed he could fix many of the Earth's problems with a united government, and so tried to use his army to conquer the planet. The master died in this war, and regenerated into a woman. The war continued until an assassin poison the Doctor. While his Time Lord biology helped him survive, he realized not everyone was ready for the united utopia he wanted to build, and forcing it on them kinda defeated the purpose.

So he left Earth to it's own devices, jokingly telling his advisors that the country should go "to the best", which caused a civil war. The only thing the Advisors agreed on was covering up the Doctor's Origins, and hide the fact he didn't die, as it was the Doctor's final order.

The Doctor and the Master then spent a few centuries travelling alone together. Until they picked up a pet. A stray human wandered into their Time Capsule, and the tots took off without realizing it. This new boy, named, Alister Gorden Lethbridge Stewart, joined them on their travels, but he left after only a few months.

Although the Doctor would try his best to visit the human, and occasionally taking him on other adventures.

This Human child later grew up to become a "Brigadier" in the military branch of Earth's "United Nations". Though he would always remain the Doctor's first human companion. With the Doctor frequently stopping by, to assist on his missions.

After traveling for a few more centuries, the Master entered her heat. She asked the Doctor to help her through it. This resulted in the Master becoming pregnant. After finding out, She decided to return to Gallifrey, for the sake of the baby. The Doctor joined her, but was forced to regenerate as punishment (and part of the plea bargain to protect the Master).

This did not work as a successful deterrent. As Centuries later, the Doctor led a rebellion against the High Command of Gallifrey. The plot may have failed, but the Doctor remains a symbol to the people of Gallifrey. To the poor and deprived.

The Rebellion ended, with the death of the Doctor's child... which resulted in the young man's mate betraying him. As she blamed the Doctor for starting the war and inspiring the child to want to fight.

The Doctor left Gallifrey, stealing another Time Capsule. This one an antique, secluded for decommission... it was a completely different Capsule then the one he first stole... as this one had been the same one to belong to The Other... and likely let him in, due to sensing who the Doctor used to be.

The Doctor flew into the Time Vortex, visiting all of history... touching every star of every world in the known universe... and picking up strays along the way. Lower lifeforms, mostly humans, that he took on this journey, with no end destination.

It seemed his primary objective, was nothing more then to flaunt disdain for Gallifrey's principal law of non interference. Mostly by preventing the destruction of countless worlds. He has led numerous rebellions, across an incomprehensible number of planets. All the while proclaiming he is saving them.

The High Council of Gallifrey has chosen to allow this... because they can't stop him. Instead they chooss to work with the Doctor. To allow him to maintain his indecent lifestyle, in exchange of putting his savagery to tasks The Council has difficulty with. He was a vital freelancer in the war with the Daleks... even occasionally serving as General to the Time Lord fleet.

A/N:

No need to read the rest of this chapter, if you have read:

Just putting this here for those who haven't, so you don't need to read other stories to see what is going on in this one.

Chapter Zero

A woman, or what appeared to be a 2 legged humanoid at least, sat outside her home. Her hand resting on her pregnant belly. She could feel the little one kick. Already making incomprehensible demands of her.

The house was nothing more then a small Sphere on a square platform. No bigger then 3 meters tall. Not leaving much room but inside was a whole nother world... or at the very least a large manor. "Bigger on the inside" as her mate would say.

This was a house of wealth. Peasants could only afford buildings of ordinary construction. The Master's father gave her this house on the family estate, after the trial of course. It was fortunate her father took her back in after all the trouble she caused. Even better that he took in her mate.

The Doctor, her mate, had made a bargain with the High Council of Gallifrey. He would plead guilty and condemn his own actions in exchange for a full pardon for the Master...

The punishment? Forced Regeneration and 6 months in a rehabilitation facility. Provided they got the Doctor to give a public statement condemning his actions...

For all their flaws, Time Lords didn't have a death penalty. Forced regeneration was their harshest, legal, punishment. Only done when the Time Lord in question was thought to be irredeemable. It was the hope the next face would be different, as regeneration caused Time Lords to perceive their actions of their previous lives differently.

The young woman had spent the last thousand years trampling their civilizations primary principles. A non interference policy with the passage of time. Her mate could claim it was all his idea but truth was she had wanted to do it... they even picked up a pet.

A less evolved humanoid, so primitive the species actually called themselves "humans". Not realizing that was an animal Kingdom, a classification of species, rather then an actual race.

Still The Doctor had been insistent they go to Earth and when the little critter snuck onboard the Doctor felt an instant connection to it... the Doctor, being half human himself, got rather mad at The Master's view that the creature was their pet. He believed the thing should be treated like an equal, or else how could the Master claim to call the Doctor a friend.

It was simple. The Doctor had gone through gene therapy at birth. He had all his Time Lord traits brought to the surface. Yes he had a few unsavory genes but those were vastly diluted to the point a casual medical scan wouldn't pick them up. The Doctor might have a human father but he was less human then he liked to admit.

"Koschei?" The Master flinched and glared up at the voice that dare speak his name. The Master was no child! How dare anyone address him by anything but his chosen name!

The Master glared at the "old" man that now stood before her. She sighed. She was still getting used to his new face. Time Lords can't really tell age by looking at someone. Their soul feels for the soul of another Time Lord. That is how, even with his new face, she could recognize him.

"Honestly Alexandermacedon," The Master glared, speaking the Doctor's own birth name in an attempt to shame him. As the Doctor felt no shame in even the most embarrassing circumstances, it proved ineffective. Still, the Master scolded, "Show some tact. We're in public!"

"How is your family estate public?" The Doctor grinned as he took a seat next to her.

The Master sighed, "Behave." She gently slapped his arm.

They sat in silence as they watched the two suns set in the orange sky.

2000 Years Later

War had erupted on Gallifrey, not the Time War or anything so flashy, but the Doctor's first taste of a real war. Fought with weapons a good deal more advanced then swords and spears, like he was used to.

A civil war for the soul of their planet... one that it was looking less and less likely the good guys could win.

"But I want to help!" A young Ginger woman glared at her father.

The Doctor huffed, "Are you so eager to go back onto the front lines? You already snuck out there once, against my orders, might I add. How did that work out for you, young Lady?"

The woman glared, "DON'T CALL ME THAT!"

The Doctor shrugged, "Have you looked in a mirror? You're a woman now!"

"DOESN'T MEAN I WANT TO BE ADDRESSED AS ONE!" She snapped.

"You're lucky they didn't stop both your hearts." The Master glared as she stepped into the room, "Honestly, stop being so selfish!"

"SELFISH! For wanting to help!" The woman screamed.

"Thetatropolousvsgholtazsr Sigmaakronosvexsithkada!" The Master snapped out the woman's full name, "You have a new born daughter who now has two mums. Think of her and stop this fantasy!"

"Our planet has erupted into civil war! A civil war that is not only your doing but you're LEADING!" She glared at her parents. "If I don't do something my daughter will HAVE no Mums! She will grow up in a world of oppression and poverty! I will not stand by and do NOTHING! You raised me to stand up for what is right!'

The Doctor rested a hand on her shoulder, "Please. Don't go out there again. If you want to help, help here. We need officers to discuss strategies."

"YOU LEAD FROM THE FRONT LINES!"

"Yes well, I'm stupid," the Doctor smirked.

The Master shrugged, "You know I don't approve of lying to children,"

"I'M NOT A CHILD!" Theta roared, "I haven't been a child for a thousand years! You need to stop treating me like one and realize I have something to offer!"

The Doctor glared, "Enough of this, I'm putting my foot down. You will not leave the safety of this compound again."

Theta "gah-ed" and stormed deeper into the room. Acting very much a child.

The Doctor sighed and put a hand to his head.

"It's not like you to be so short with her," The Master observed.

"He reminds me too much of myself to not make myself clear on the matter." The Doctor sighed.

"She." The master smirked.

"Must you push his buttons like that?" The Doctor eyed.

"It's your mutt blood that confuses her." The Master insisted.

16 Years Later

The Master was hugging their daughter's lifeless body as she laid on the metal slab. Her wife was nearby, on a nearby table. The Doctor walked into the morgue, knowing what was about to happen.

"You could have prevented this..." The Master accused. "You and those ridiculous ideals you poured into her hearts. She just wanted to be like you... that's all she wanted... I followed you... against my better judgment, I let you lead half the world into a war they couldn't win!... but why did you have to drag our daughter into it to?"

The Doctor said nothing. He couldn't find the words.

"I've called the High Council." The Master informed, "They should be on their way now..."

"... I know..."

"I'll give you a head start but know if I ever see you again... I'll kill you myself..."

"... I know..."

"You called the Council?" They both turned to see their 16 year old granddaughter. She looked accusingly at the Master.

"Susan," The Master tried. Speaking the girl's chosen name.

"After everything father did? After everything he believed in? Your last act of 'love' is to betray everything he stood for!" Susan yelled, "Father died to protect our dream of a free Gallifrey! You shame that!" Susan took the Doctor's hand and pulled him away, "Come Grandfather. We have to evacuate!"

The Doctor lingered a moment. It was clear by the Master's broken expression that he blamed him for Susan's feelings as well. He sighed and left the room with his Granddaughter, sounding the alarm on their way out.
