"You've got to be kidding me."
"Why are you acting like this is the end of the damn world?"
"As if I don't have enough to worry about with that kid tagging along everywhere I go, now you want me to—"
"Anderson, just shut the hell up and listen to me."
Hank paced like a caged tiger in front of Captain Fowler's desk, his brow drawn and mouth tight.
"Detective Tenner has been nothing but cooperative during this transfer. I'd rather not have to warn her about the 'warm welcome' she'll receive from you if you keep this behavior up."
"Why now? Why are you throwing this on me now? Hell, I don't even–"
Captain Fowler cut him off. "Lieutenant, I don't know if you've happened to take a peek in the real world lately, but you should know that the red ice epidemic is not over. It didn't just stop because the androids up and decided to be alive. Coupled with violence against androids now being classified as a crime, this city is in the middle of a damn upheaval, and I need your help." He let out an agitated sigh and rubbed his forehead.
Hank crossed his arms and waited.
"Since the revolution, the DPD has issued an official statement in support of the android rights movement. Unfortunately, that statement doesn't seem to ring true for everyone within the department, whether or not they will say so outright."
Hank nodded. "You mean like that asshole Reed?"
Ignoring his interjection, Fowler continued. "Division is running wild within every industry, every branch of government, every political circle, and right now we need all the support we can get. Specifically, support from those sympathetic to the androids' cause."
He reached forward and placed a file in front of Hank, tapping it. "Detective Tenner has been instrumental in fighting for justice in cases regarding android mistreatment, albeit on a smaller scale. She has agreed to relocate to Detroit for a time and offer her skills and support to the androids and to us."
Hank scowled. "So, what? You want me to babysit her?"
"I would like her to work alongside you and your partner for the time being. You have experience that she lacks, and unlike you, she expressed no qualms about working with an android when the idea was first presented."
"Must not have warned her about working with me, then."
"I'm not asking you to throw her a damn parade, Lieutenant. I'm giving you an asset. As backwards as it sounds, we are in dire need of more officers like you. You and your partner . . . where is he, anyway? I expected him to accompany you."
"You know, he has a name, by the way." Hank replied, the scowl never leaving his face. "And I have no idea what Connor is doing. Updating a case file or something, probably."
"Great. Take Detective Tenner's file with you and fill him in on the situation. She arrives on Thursday, so you've got three days to get your attitude together."
"Great. Thanks so much." Hank snatched the file off of the desk and stormed out of the office.
Feeling a headache coming on, Fowler rubbed his eyes and sighed.
"Lord help that woman."
Hey all! Sorry for how short this first chapter is; they will be longer in the future. I just needed to get this idea out in the open as soon as possible.
This is the first DBH fanfic I've ever written, and I'm excited to have finally started it! I'd just like to clarify a few things right from the get-go:
1. This will most likely end up classified as Connor X OC, but there will NEVER be any smut whatsoever. I know we all want to love Connor in every possible way, but beyond being uncomfortable writing smut in general, I especially feel that way about smut involving Connor specifically for some reason. I have no problem with fluffy romance, but no smut.
2. I know Hank's character voice may seem a little off . . . and that may be because I'm gonna try to keep the swearing pretty light. I love our sailor mouthed detective as much as anyone, but I wanna tone it down just little for now. That may change later on. XD
3. Please feel free to point out if I make any huge blunders with the best-ending canon. I'm EXTREMELY late to the hype train for this game, and have never actually played it. Can't afford it or a computer to run it, so I've just been watching playthroughs. I've only really known about this game for maybe a month. So please correct me if I get anything blatantly wrong.
I think that's it for now. If you feel so inclined, give me a review! It would probably make my day. XD
Hope you have a great day!
