Chapter 11 A New Friend? Potentially?
Wendy gripped Ludwig's hand as the duo flew through the city. From so high up, the city looked small, minuscule, and as a consequence, so did Wendy's problems. She had no idea why she had been freaking out the way she did from this high up. She had no idea why she had been afraid from this high up.
"Thank you, Ludwig," she said. She put on a smile, even though Ludwig was busy focusing on the way ahead.
"Anytime," Ludwig responded. He chuckled. "Just remember that next time you visit an alternate dimension, you aren't trying to get incarcerated."
Wendy sighed. "I know. I don't even know why this spiraled out of control the way it did. I just…." her mind jumper to Judy, the rabbit officer, and how drop dead adorable she had been. Her heart fluttered, and she let out a sigh. "I don't know."
Ludwig cast her a look. "What was that sigh for?"
Wendy blinked. "What do you mean?"
"You sighed. Dreamily. You let out a dreamy sigh."
Wendy blinked a second time. "Is...is that so?"
"Yeah. You sounded like you had just met the love of your life." He cast her a raised eyebrow. "How can you find that in a world full of anthropomorphic animals? Anthropomorphic animals who arrested you, no less."
Wendy's face grew warm. "I didn't find the love of my life! I just…." She groaned. "Look, can we not talk about this right now? I really want to get home."
Ludwig still looked at her with a raised eyebrow before nodding. "Okay. Whatever works for you."
They flew through the sky, all while Wendy kept an eye on the little, ant-like dots making their way across the map. They all knew exactly where they needed to go, and what they needed to do. It was impressive, considering that they were anthropomorphic animals. Wendy reasoned that this society must be a very intellectually advanced one, if it was able to operate in this way and even have a police force.
Oh man, the police force. Wendy still couldn't take her mind off of Judy. Sure, she had arrested her. But….daww, she was just so CUTE! Nothing could change Wendy's mind on that; Judy the rabbit officer was cute. On some level, it was a shame that Wendy was being taken back to her dimension so soon. She wanted to know more about Judy, darn it! But, alas, some things were just not meant to come to pass. Realizing this, Wnedy let out an even longer and heavier sigh than the one she had let out before.
Anyway, they spotted the portal within no time at all. Ludwig directed himself downward and flew straight through it. Ince on the other side and safely on the ground, Wendy waa greeted by the sight of her family. They all smiled lovingly at her.
"Wendy!" Lemmy exclaimed. He rushed over and wrapped her midsection in a hug. "I'm so happy you're safe!"
"Yeah," said Roy. "While we were waiting, Larry here told us how much he would miss you. He even cried!"
"Shut up!" Larry said through gritted teeth.
Roy just laughed, as did Wendy herself. This was the universe she was meant to be in. This was her home, and nothing anyone ever did could change that.
She was happy to be home. She really was.
…
That night, Wendy looked up at the stars through the window of the east wing's second floor. They were her stars, the stars of her universe. They would always twinkle, even if she wasn't present. That little fact gave her some form of reassurance. It claimed her nerves, knowing that there was at least one thing in this vast multiverse that would always be there.
She drummed her fingers on the window sill. Tomorrow would probably be a normal day. After the fiasco that occurred, Wendy didn't think her family would be having an interdimensional Mario Kart races anytime soon. A sensical thing, but also, a thing that filled Wendy with disappointment. She wanted to go back to Zootopia. Perhaps this was because she was crazy, but...no, she just wanted to go back to Zootopia. She wanted to didn Judy.
But no one would ever allow it. She almost got herself permanently stuck in that dimension, after all. They wouldn't allow her to go back. Realizing this, Wendy sighed.
"I wish I could see Judy again," she said out loud.
"Who's Judy?"
Wendy looked up and saw her adopted father approaching from down the hallway. "Oh. Hey, Bowser."
"Hey. Just wanted to check on you, make sure that you're okay after spending some time in interdimensional jail." He raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "Who's Judy?"
Wendy let out a breath. "The rabbit officer who arrested me. She was literally the cutest thing I had ever seen in my life." She lowered her head onto the sill. "And now, I might never see her again."
"Oh," said Bowser. "I'm sorry about that."
"Thank you." She shook her head. "I just want to go back to Zootopia so that I can see her again. I'm sure with as someone as adorable as her, she and I would become fast friends."
Bowser nodded, deep in thought. He put his hand to his chin before smilign at his adopted daughter.
"Who's to say you have to stay in Zootopia, or whatever it's called, to be friends with her? Why don't you have her come to the Mushroom World?"
Wendy sharply exhaled. "She would never do that."
"She would….if you kidnapped her."
Wendy did a double take when she heard that. She stared up at Bowser with wide eyes, her heart pounding at a rapid rate. "Kidnap her? Are you insane?"
"I may be, but that's beside the point. If you kidnap her, you'll be able to keep her in the castle. You can become friends with her very easily, so much so to the point that she won't even want to go back home."
Wendy turned away from Bowser and stared at the window. Was this ludicrous? Yes. Was it wrong? Oh, goodness yes. But was it also appealing?
Yes. Yes, definitely
