"So this is the Academy?" Kagome asks boredly. "Looks like something right out of Edo."
"You could say that era was the inspiration for the entire build," Gojo smirks towards Kagome as if he was trying to hint at something. "But for now we should get you to the Principal." Kagome sighs in annoyance as the three students look back and forth from the pair.
"Be careful," Yuuji speaks up, remembering his interview. "The Principal uses c-"
"Now. now, Itadori," Gojo interrupts as he puts a hand over the boy's mouth. "We don't want to ruin the surprise for 'Gome, do we?"
"But those things are satanic!" Yuuji whines out. "It's not fair for-"
"I'm sure she'll be fine," Megumi cuts in boredly. "If that idiot has been asking her to come there has to be a reason. "Don't worry about her interview, Itadori."
"Interview?" Kagome questions as she glares at Gojo. "I'm not doing a damn interview when you have been pestering me for who kno-"
"It's been one year, two months, and eight days as of today," Gojo beams smugly. "But who's counting right?" Putting his arm around her shoulders, he leads her to the Principals office while she glares ahead.
"Watch out for Cathy!" Itadori yells out despite Gojo's words, confusing Kagome greatly.
"You got this, Kagome!" Nobara cheers behind them before the three head to their dorms for the results.
"Right, well," Kagome says as they get to a large set of doors and shrugs off Gojo's arm. "Let's just get this over with." Opening the doors, the pair step inside to find the Principal working on his latest corpse. First impressions are always a bid thing, so for this older male to be making a doll while waiting was something she wasn't quite expecting.
"Only two minutes late this time," the Principal sighs as he exams his handiwork. "What excuse do you have this time?"
"Well seeing as I was going to be on time when we got here," Gojo starts. "I figured 'why rush?'"
"So that's the priestess?" Principal Masamichi asks after a minute of glaring at the white-haired Shaman.
"'The priestess' is standing right here, you know," Kagome speaks up as she crosses her arms. "I am Higurashi, Kagome."
"Why are you here?"
"You're joking, right?" Kagome scoffs. "This one asked me to come."
"I mean to Jujutsu Specialty," Masamichi corrects himself.
"I'm not here to learn what I personally can't use." She felt like a lost sheep in a den of wolves, yet it didn't have the same fear as it used to. Being the outsider was something that Kagome had grown accustomed to over the years and that didn't seem like it was going to stop any time soon. "You cursed energy users don't know how to handle your own kind. That is why I am here."
"And you think you can?" Masamichi raises an eyebrow, finding newfound interest in the female in front of him. "What do you know about how we do things?" Kagome closes her eyes with a sigh. From what she figured, they knew her legend and that was why they called her here, yet more evidence is pointing at the fact that they may not know anything about her besides her Miko Ki.
"This is stupid. I shouldn't have to be he-"
"Disqualified." Kagome stops moving altogether, confusion and anger racing through her. "You either know or you don't, Higurashi. There is nothing stupid about death or curses," Masamichi finally stands from his seat as he sets down his current project. "As Shaman, we constantly go through tragedy after tragedy and are still able to continue. We deal with our own how we see fit. We go to war constantly with no thanks, we have to see our comrades die despite everything we try to do." One of his many dolls surrounding him stands with a glint in its eyes as it looks at Kagome. "How would a mere priestess know anything about that?"
Fire burns behind Kagome's eyes at his words, having heard that line in too many different ways. The doll lunges at her with a right hook as she backhands it into a wall like a fly, shocking the two men in the room. The now lifeless doll stays stuck in the wall, completely purified from Principal Masamichi's curse energy. "Right? How would a Miko know about war and curses?" Kagome steps towards the Principal with the same fire in her eyes. "I am not one to take lightly, Shaman."
"Ah, 'Gome you might want to calm down," Gojo chimes in. His voice goes unheard, however, as Kagome continues to fight off the dolls that the Principal was throwing at her. The white-haired male shrugs to himself as he watches from the side, knowing full well that this wasn't going to end smoothly.
"Then answer my question, Higurashi," Masamichi responds calmly. "Why are you here at Jujutsu Specialty?" Getting ganged up on by the doll, Kagome kicks a few away into the others to gain some advantage.
"Because you won't be able to handle Sukuna without me." As she answers, Kagome throws out a purifying barrier to knock out the remaining dolls. "Itadori is the only reason I agreed to come along, nothing else." The way she was holding herself as she spoke about the vessel helped make up the Principal's mind about where to set the Miko.
"Satoru, show her to her dorm." With that being said, Kagome scoffs and leaves the room. "Seeing as she can't use curse energy at all, I'm placing her as your assistant regarding Itadori." Masamichi sits back down after collecting his corpses. "Is that clear, Satoru?"
"I doubt myself of all people would need an assistant, but if it's 'Gome, I guess I don't mine," he responds with a chuckle before leaving to catch up with Kagome. "Looks like you passed, 'Gome," he beams smugly. "But consider yourself lucky! You're a teacher's assistant!"
"I'll call myself lucky after I know who I'll be working under," Kagome deadpans without looking at him.
"Who else but the strongest Shaman, of course!" The cocky smile on his face as clear as day even without her needing to look. "The Gods really must love you if you ended up with me."
"I feel it's more of a love/hate relationship with them…" she mutters back. Getting settled in wasn't the problem, it was getting Gojo to leave her alone afterwards that was making her frustrated.
"'Gome! Are you even listening?" he pats her head gently.
"No, I gave up caring about an hour ago," she answers without looking up from her book. "Surprised it took you this long to notice."
"You know, most people love hearing me talk for hours. I'm kind of a big deal in this world."
"I'm sure you are, Satoru," she rolls her eyes as she gives up reading and puts the book on her bed beside her, feeling it useless to fight him at this point. "Don't you have other things to do besides pester me?"
"Actually, I should check on Itadori, see how he's fairing," he cheers before heading to the door. "Don't miss me too much!" Kagome rolls her eyes again as the door closes behind him. Once knowing he was completely gone, Kagome gets up and looks out the window to see the stars. While they will never be as bright as they were in Edo, something about them always made her feel at ease. Memories of Edo flood her mind faster than she thought, making her feel off and alone again. Everyone got to live the life they wanted when the jewel was completed, but what about her? The outsider that was never meant to stay in the time she fell in love with.
An: The more this goes on, Kagome will give more information about what she's been up to since she was with Inuyasha last. And as you've must have noticed, she isn't as immature as she usually is in most of my writing. I'm trying to do a more mature version of her in this. I also go over every review and look forward to seeing what you have to say.
So again:
The more you give, the more you receive.
