Tails' Workshop
While Tails is finishing up his latest project, Sonic and Shadow are sparring close by, but at a safe enough distance to not destroy the workshop...again. Sonic's thoughts are in the cloud, but more than usual as Shadow got a punch to the gut that had Sonic fall to the floor.
"It's not fun Faker if you're not focused"
"Sorry, I just got a lot on my mind right now"
"You don't have a lot, just one person. It's kind of obvious"
"You're the only one who pointed it out to me. How do you know it's just one person, it could be multiple"
"If it was Sally, you would've told Tails already. Blaze, you would be more vocal about it but you said it doesn't bother you so it is just one person, Amy"
"When did you become an expert on my life, Faker?'
"When you start to slowly crack through the facade of yours; and if I can see it, others will too"
"Well, it's kind of complicated, you see...
"I never said I wanted to hear it, tell it to someone who cares"
"I think you care since you brought it up. Just because we are rivals doesn't mean I don't see you like a brother"
"Oh please, cut it with the sentiments. Fine, tell me about your problem"
"Well, it's not like Amy has told me she likes me and wants to get married a bunch of times, but I feel like ever since the whole Blaze thing, she dialed down a lot"
"And this is a bad thing because?"
"It's a good and a bad thing. It's good because I can actually talk to her without being in fear of my life, but bad because I don't want her to think that the only reason I'm talking to her"
"So what is the reason?"
"I like being around her and the conversations we had that didn't result in her asking me to marry her, but I feel like if I start to show an interest in her, it won't be genuine"
"So take her out or something. Unless she's still with that other hedgehog. What's his name?"
"Silver and she told me that they were just friends. Anyway, I could take her out on a picnic by Twinkle Park"
"Whatever you do, just do something about it"
"Thanks, Shadow, for you know, listening and the advice"
"Let's just make this a one-time thing. I can't have everyone thinking I'm a nice person because I decided to be a fri...to you"
"C'mon Shadow, just call me your friend. I won't even make you call me your best friend, even though sometimes we are"
"I'm, okay, with being a...friend...to you"
"Baby steps Shadow, next time there won't be any hesitation"
"If you win our next fight, I'll call you one without any"
"You're on!"
Cream and Vanilla's House
Rouge, Amy, and Cream are enjoying tea and cookies in the kitchen until Amy puts her cup down and looks at the two girls.
"Like I'm happy that I've been spending time with Sonic, but why now does he want to?"
"You were a little strong him asking him to marry you and take you on a date every time you saw him," Cream says in her teacup as Amy shockingly looks at her as Rouge laughs.
"She got a point, besides, there were times when you told him to take you on a date and he did. Maybe since you're not so, aggressive, about it, he can come to you without being in fear of the hammer"
"You think so? And not because of Silver?"
"What do you mean 'not because of Silver'?"
"Maybe he was jealous of Silver and me spending time together that now that he's gone, he wants to spend time with me now?"
"I don't think Mr. Sonic is that type of person"
"Why don't you be direct and ask why all of a sudden he wants to spend time with you? The reason might be because you have calmed down a lot in your approach over the years"
"So me not being so headstrong is the reason he probably saying yes more and even making the first move himself?"
"Yes!" Cream and Rouge say as they all take a sip of tea. Amy picks up the phone and calls Tails' workshop phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey Tails, is Sonic with you?"
"He's out with Shadow right now as I'm working on my latest invention. When they get back I'll let you know you called"
"Thanks, Tails. Talk to you later"
"Bye"
Amy hangs up the phone and looks at the girls, "He's out with Shadow"
"I didn't know Mr. Sonic and Mr. Shadow hang out with each other"
"Believe it or not, behind the rivalry are two hedgehogs that are best friends, but they won't tell you that," Rouge says as Amy nods her head.
"You mean Shadow won't tell, Sonic will say they are at least friends"
The girls hum in agreement as they continue their tea.
Later that night at Amy's house
Amy is looking at the moon from her bedroom window as she hears someone whisper her name. She looks down to see Sonic waving at her.
"Sorry Ames, but I didn't realize the time while I was still out with Shadow and came over when I can"
"Time is something that you let escape you. Just part of your 'knight in the wind' niche"
"Anyway, Tails said you wanted to talk to me if it's not too late"
"It's not, give me a minute to unlock the door"
Amy puts on her robe as she jogs downstairs to open the door. Sonic walks in to sit on the couch as Amy locks the door shut.
"So what's up?"
"I'm just curious, why now?"
"Why now what?"
"Why now you want to spend time with me? I know that we are friends, but you used to run away from me every time I got close to you"
"Well, the hammer and the aggressive run you always did towards me made me scared so I just took off and waited until you calmed down. Now, you don't whip out the hammer as much"
"So you were scared to hang out with me?"
"Yes and no. I'm always just going with the wind and didn't want to slow down, so to speak. Some of the times you wanted to hang out or do something, I just wanted some space to run"
"So you just wanted time to yourself?"
"No offense, but a majority of the time you wanted to do something was after fighting Eggman or a long adventure and I just needed time to be with myself and the wind"
"It's like, your downtime after something big?"
"Yeah. Though your approach do be strong, it was never you personally"
Amy lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding as she processes everything that he told her.
'So it wasn't just my personality, well that's good' Amy thinks to herself as she notices Sonic giving her a weird look
"Sorry, just zoned for a bit"
"It's okay, I zone out a lot too. Well, if that's all you wanted to tell me I'll be on my way so you can get some sleep"
"Sure, but wait, one more thing"
Sonic looks back at her with the door open. She walks up to him and gives him a hug.
"Thank you Sonniku"
"There's nothing to thank me for. Just be free tomorrow around noon"
"For what?"
"That is something that I know and you'll just have to be ready for tomorrow. Eat light is all I'm going to say"
With that, Sonic takes off as Amy shakes her head, locking her door for the night. As she travels back to bed, a thought comes to her head that brings out the biggest smile on her face,
'He just asked me out on a date'
