MONOLOGUE 7- LUNA AND LINNIE COSMA (AGE 6)
LUNA
I'm scared. It's too dark in here. I had a bad dream and my light went off in my room. I don't know what to do. I think Daddy's still sleeping right now. I don't wanna wake him. What if he gets mad? What if he yells at me? He's never yelled at me before, but I don't want tonight to be a first. But I wanna tell him about my dream. Maybe I can wait until breakfast? What if he doesn't have time? What if he gets so angry, he takes my favorite toy fox away? I don't want that. I love my toy. I need it to sleep at night, along my nightlight. I don't think he would but I don't know. Adults are hard to guess.
I want my Daddy but I don't want him if he's mad. I've never seen him angry so I don't know. I'm not supposed to leave my room unless it's to potty or get some water (and if it's that, I have to wake him up and ask). What if he just gets up in a bad mood?
Wait..that's an idea. Maybe I could wake him up and ask for some water, and then tell him about my dream? Then, I would be asking him without breaking any rules. I am getting a bit thirsty anyways. But then again..he works so hard. He should sleep. I don't see him sit down a lot unless it's to eat a meal with me or read a story. I wish he would come in here right now and read to me again.
Should I dare? It would get his attention without breaking rules, but I still feel bad. I don't like being woken up, so I don't think Daddy would like it…
It's so dark in here without my nightlight though. I'm clutching onto my blanket extra hard as I'm looking around. Everything looks normal..my bunny is in the corner..I'm grab that.
What was that? I heard a noise! W-What is that in my closet? Where's my daddy? Is that a monster in my closet? Daddy? DADDY? Daddy, where are you?
(starts crying)
LINNIE
Luna! Luna, honey what's the matter? Aww..here here..it's ok…
(sits down at the bed, hugging Luna as she cries) Shhh..Shh..it's ok. You're ok. I'm right here honey. What's the matter darling? Bad dream?
LUNA
Y-Yes..and there's a monster! In there! (points towards closet)
LINNIE
Sweetheart, it's ok. It looks like she's gone. She said she was sorry for scaring you, and wanted to find a place to sleep for the evening. She promised she wasn't going to hurt you, darling. There there now..it's ok.
LUNA
The monster's nice?
LINNIE
Yes sweetheart, of course. She told me she was sorry she woke you up and that she wouldn't bother you again. I promise. She also asked if she could keep sleeping there and be your nighttime buddy.
LUNA
Nighttime buddy?
LINNIE
Mhm! (smiling) She says she heard you crying, and came into your closet to protect you while you sleep if you didn't want to wake me up. But you know darling, you can wake me up if you need something. I love you very much and want to help you if you need it. Please don't be afraid to come to me.
LUNA
O-Oh. Ok Daddy. (falling asleep on Linnie's shoulder) Night Daddy. Night Midnight
LINNIE
(smiling playfully) Midnight? Who's Midnight, darling?
LUNA
