MONOLOGUE 13- LINNIE AND CHELSEA
(CHELSEA'S phone ringing)
CHELSEA
Hello?
LINNIE
Chelsea? I- Honey, where are you? I'm so worried! Did you find a place to stay?
CHELSEA
Yeah dad. I'm at my boyfriend's
LINNIE
Oh ok. Oh, I was so worried. Are you alright? Well…Are you safe is what I meant, darling?
CHELSEA
I think so, unless mom's chasing me with a pick ax and I don't know about it, haha.
LINNIE
She's blacked out right now, Chelsea. She drank the rest of the whiskey when you left.
CHELSEA
Are you and Cosmo ok?
LINNIE
For now, sweetheart. We went to stay with your Aunt Daisy for the evening. We're back home now trying to clean the mess, honey. Don't worry. Mom's still asleep. Oh, I wish you wouldn't ran off. You would still be here with us. Though, I can't blame you for being mad at us.
CHELSEA
Yeah dad, about that. I kind of uh…wished you were in hell the other night in my head. I know that's random..I'm sorry. I was just so angry..I lost control and I said things I didn't mean..
LINNIE
No, you don't have to apologize for anything. I understand. I haven't exactly been the best father to you. What with me running off for a few years when Cosmo transformed me, and I-I can't always protect you kids from your mother. I think you might be right.
CHELSEA
Dad no. You're a good person. You don't belong in hell. Please don't say that.
LINNIE
Well, that still doesn't excuse me. I-I-uh-I…please Chelsea. Can we meet up somewhere? Where you mother isn't around? I don't know how much time I have left before she wakes up.
CHELSEA
I mean, I can ask Garret if you and Cosmo could come over here for a few hours. Get to know him a bit.
LINNIE
That's sounds fine sweetheart. Just anywhere Nora isn't please. Chelsea I…you know I meant what I said when I said I loved you, right?
CHELSEA
I think so. But if you loved me, why did you defend mom's point on staying at Wishbrooke? You know starting a band and getting my music degree is my dream? Why didn't you defend me?
LINNIE
I know I know. I'm so sorry, sweetheart. It's just I was scared and uh..well..that did us a lot of good. But to tell you the truth, I don't think you should go to a school you're unhappy with. Yes, I would prefer a school where you're close so I could come over and check on you, but you're an adult. I can't keep treating you like a baby now.
CHELSEA
Yeah..I lowkey kind of miss it though. When you used to sing me song and rock me in the rocking chair. And how you used to help me play with my blocks and held me if I got scared. You know that one scene in spongebob, where he's crying because he doesn't wanna grow up?
LINNIE
Oh yes. That scene just breaks my heart everytime.
CHELSEA
Yeah, that's kind of me right now.
LINNIE
Poor dear. Well, why don't you send me his address after you ask him, and I'll come by with some milk and cookies, to make you feel better? Give you a couple of hugs and kisses. You seem like you could use some more love that you're used to giving.
CHELSEA
Yeah..you know what, I'd like that. Only if mom doesn't chase you down. I don't wanna risk getting you sent to the hospital.
LINNIE
I don't know if she's gonna wake up anytime soon at the moment. She's still knocked out honestly. I-I just think could use a little tender loving care.
CHELSEA
Man, how'd I get so lucky to have a dad like you. I love you. I miss you.
LINNIE
I love and miss you too. Don't worry. Everything will be ok…eventually. Alright, send me the address please when you get a chance. I'll see you in a bit. I love you.
