The funeral was celebrated only a few days later, as Peg had insisted on going home asap and Pete couldn't wait to get to the will. Everyone of course offered Max their condolences though with the exception of PJ"Ooh Gosh man I'm really sorry about what happened to you dad. If I'd known dad's trip would kill him..." ,he'd've kept going but Max stopped him saying it wasn't his fault, and Peg"I so sorry about Goofy's death. We came home as soon as we heard, and I'll make sure that LUG NUT makes it up to you this time." they felt insincere and or as if they were just going through the motions. Pete's eulogy was the worst part as he contradicted everything he'd ever said about Goofy as if he were trying to appease Peg or earn brownie points with some unknown entity. Finally it was time to lay Goofy to rest and read the will.
The will somehow managed to be the longest, most boring, and most confusing document ever written. Max tried his best to listen but quickly gave up on ever understanding what was being said when he heard "bla bla bla Pete take care of Maxie bla bla-"
"WHAT WAS THAT!" angrily shouted Pete before receiving a swift elbow to the rib from Peg. "Sorry. What I meant to say was 'would you mind repeating that last part?' "
"Of course not. I've got nothing better to do today." replied the lawyer obviously irritated at the interruption."It says right here as the only condition for you receiving your part of the inheritance that 'If I die before Max grows up my good friend Pete is to take care of my precious Maxie.'. now may I continue?!"
"Yeah yeah. Go ahead" said Pete.
