After that first day at the lot Max would spend the rest of the week there. That week became a month. That month became the rest of summer. After that Max would still tag along whenever he had little enough homework to spare the time. Max continued like that for 2 more summers all the while cozying up to Pete and learning everything he could until on the last day of the summer break of 94 Pete gave the soon to be 14 year old Max his first chance at a car sale.

"I've found you a real easy mark. His names Mr. R." said Pete as he led Max to Mr. R."I've sold several pieces of junk over the years as easily customizable fixerupers. Don't forget the real value of the cars cause you're walking away with 60% of the profits on a good car 70% on a bad car and if you can get him to buy one of those junk piles on wheels you can take 100% profit on the sale. Just focus on the good side of whatever vehicle and th-.

"Think big I know. you've only told me about a thousand times Mr. P." said Max as he left Pete to meet this Mr. R. Max stepped outside to be greeted by a brick wall of a bulldog, with a short cut flat top of orange hair, staring down at him."Good morning Mr. R, What can I do you for today ?"

"I'm looking for a cool car to be able to take my daughter to social events in this school year, nothing to expensive or flashy but I'd still like it to look nice."

"If you'll follow me round back I've got just the car for." Max said confidentially as he started to walk around the lot office."She a bit old but a real beauty."

They finished walking around back and were greeted by a rather pretty metallic dark blue Chevy Vega.

"She's definitely pretty, but, while I heard plenty good about dis model when she was new, just a few years later I heard these things broke down left n right. Your not tryna sell off your junk on me just cause I look stupid are ya?

"Of course not. I'd never screw over one Pete's most loyal customers for a quick buck. This baby's been refurbished good as new and with your being familiar with her you've gotta remember how pretty she looked on the road back in her day. Just imagine how classy your daughter'll look riding to parties in that."

As Mr. R begins looking over the car he asks "Are you sure this'll be 'cool'?"

"No doubt my man if. I could drive this thing wouldn't even be here and if you daughter's anywhere near my age then I think I've a pretty good idea of what's cool."

Mr. R finishes his inspection and finally seems satisfied asking. "All right. How much?"

"While such a fine car would usually run you 10k I'll give it to you for just 8k for being such a loyal customer. Just follow this way and I'll have pete get all the paperwork out so we can get this deal signed and done." said Max, lying through his teeth about the value of the car, as he led the way.

Max opened the door to Pete's office and called out "We need the papers for the metallic dark blue chevy vega. Be sure to discount the price to 8k, I gave him a real deal."

Pete came out with the paperwork just a few moments later. The paperwork took a couple hours to go through and sign but once that was done Max was about 5k richer.

A couple minutes after Mr. R was gone Pete asked, utterly dumbfounded, "How did you manage to sell that old piece of junk for so much."

"I focused on the good parts and thought big, just like you always say."
