"Thanks for coming early to help set up." Stacey said as she opened the door to let Max in. "I know it was kinda last minute but I had to keep it that way or she surely would've figured out I was planning her surprise party."
"It's no problem. Didn't have much planned tonight anyway and it'll be nice getting to do this for Roxanne."Max said as he entered. "So what did you need me to set up anyway?"
"Could you start by blowing up the balloons and placing them around." Stacey asked as she handed Max the bag of balloons. Max got blowing and placing, and as he did so Stacey asked "Max, I've been talking with Roxanne lately and she's been wondering when you'll pop the question. If you really want to make tonight special for her maybe you should ask tonight."
"Not to worry. I'm already one step ahead of you." Max said as he taped up another balloon before showing Stacey a small white box. "It's hard to believe we've been dating for four years but seeing as it's the season of love and we'll be finishing high school for good in a couple of months it seems like today was made for this proposal."
"May I see?" She asked while reachin for the box.
"You'll see when everyone else does." He answered as he pocketed the box before taking up another balloon.
Max and Stacey finished setting up the party in just under an hour and soon after the guests started showing up. As the house filled up it soon became apparent that the only thing missing was Roxanne. Everyone started looking for hiding places and as the last person finished squeezing into an impossibly small crevice the door bell rang.
"Come in!" Stacey shouted from the kitchen. The door nob turned. The door then slowly creaked open as Roxanne appeared in the doorway. She barely managed to get two steps into the house when everyone jumped out exclaiming "SURPRISE!"
The party went off without a hitch. People were talking and eating and dancing. Soon enough the time to sing happy birthday and eat the cake came and went. After that Roxanne was showered with gifts and as she finished with what she thought to be her last gift Max approached her with the small, white box.
As soon as she saw it her face began to glow with excitement. She accepted the box and before she even saw its contents she joyfully exclaimed "Yes! Yes! A thousand times YES!"
