"Hey Peej, long time no see. Sorry about what happened to Pete." Max said when PJ arrived at the funeral, which had been put off for a couple weeks so PJ could be there.
"Oh, yeah, that must've been one Hell of a freak accident." PJ said mopily as he meandered into the building.
"I know it hurts to lose a father but I promise you this. It does get better." Max said in an effort to console his old friend.
"You don't know anything! At least you knew your dad still loved you! I didn't even get to see his last day!" PJ blew up.
"I can't fix that you couldn't see him on his last day but I can tell you this. The last words out of his mouth were trying to improve your future." Max said, bending the truth a little, hoping to make PJ feel a little better.
"Yeah right. He was probably just discussing how to sell worse cars for more money."
"No really. He may not have even remotely approved of your last free choice but he still loved you."
"Really?"
"Yes. Now let's get going." Max said as he moved to enter the building. Shortly after the two sat down the funeral service began. When the time eulogies came around everyone took their turns and eventually Max's turn to speak. His words were a sweet and yet between himself and Pete served as a cruel reprise of that which Pete had said so long ago about Goofy during his eulogy.
Most of Pete's assets that weren't already shared with Peg, rather predictably, went to her with one very notable exception. Honest Pete's used cars was all Max's along side all the assets tied up in that business. It took all the restraint Max had in his body to keep from having joyful outburst right there and then.
After the funeral Max drove the Petes home. The trip was quiet and sullen and the tension was palpable. Once they finally reached home Peg shooed Pistol and PJ out of the car but locked the door before Max could leave.
"Max you and I both know that I've been having serious problems with house sales lately. I know PJ and Pistol aren't your responsibilities but I was wondering if you could, at least until business picked back up for me, lend us some extra support?"
"I need to save up for the life I'm building for Roxanne and myself but if PJ can help out around the lot then I'll pay him more than usual for him to bring it back for you guys."
