HEARTLAND: Reimagined

The Love Story Of

Ty and Amy Borden

By: Steve Jordan

A note from the Authors

My wife and I have fallen in love with the Heartland series because the love story that is developed between Ty and Amy not only parallels our love story, but the genuine wholesomeness of the characters and their relationship allowed us to become part of the story! We cried when they cried, we laughed when they laughed, all the emotions that the characters portrayed became part of our emotions as we consumed ourselves with every episode.

We believe that Amy and Ty's love story will go down in history as one of the best ever! That is why as an author, I decided to continue the love story left in season 14.

We are still excited to see how the writers will frame the characters as the story of Amy and Heartland continues, but we have to continue the love story between the Ty and Amy characters, even if it is for our own pleasure.

My plans were to write "a" book, however, as I began to write, as it happens, I began to visualize a series of books that will take Ty and Amy through their years as they take over the Heartland tradition and grow their family.

We hope you enjoy this book and the next issues to come as much as we have enjoyed writing it!

Introduction

It has been 5 years since Ty collapsed from the gunshot wound he received while protecting Amy from a wolf that was about to attack them. Ty has been in a coma at a nearby extended care facility, Greenbriar Care Center, where he is visited frequently by the family. Lyndy, his daughter, has been especially tentative to her father and visits several times a week where she sits and holds his hand and tells him stories of each

day's events. Lyndy is 10 years old and is well beyond her years in maturity. Also, She has become quite a horse girl herself picking up chores at the farm and adopting Ty's horse Harley as her own. She too has been showing signs of being able to listen to horses and understand their behavior issues, much like her Amy.

Amy has become quite an international celebrity for her work with Georgie in her pursuit of landing an Olympic invitation and her training with Ahmed's equestrian stables. Amy is currently in Europe as part of Ahmed's equestrian team for the winter games. They have been very successful and have only 2 events left for the season.

With Amy away in Europe, Jack has taken on the responsibilities of Lyndy's care and has accompanied her on the frequent visits to see her father. Jack has become less involved in the cattle business since Tim and his son assumed more of the daily responsibilities. Jack still runs the day-to-day operations at Heartland, but with his nagging arthritis His activities have been limited.

Lisa has been spending much of her time in France away from the family. An has turned over the business operations of FairField Stables to Peter and Lou. With Amy in Europe, Jack has not been able to spend time in France and their separation has become somewhat of an issue between the two.

Lou and Peter have renewed their vows and have moved to Lisa's ranch to manage the affairs of Fair Field along with Maggie's and the Dude ranch. Peter has left the oil business and has taken the co-manager role of these businesses. Katy is in high school and has become quite the equestrian herself with the help from Amy, Georgie, and Lou. However, Katy is becoming a bit of a handful for Lou and Peter as she grows through her teen years.

Tim and Shane have taken over the day to day operations of the cattle business between Heartland and Big Sky Ranch. Shane has become a proficient cattleman, like Tim and Jack, and does most of the heavy lifting for the business.

Caleb and Kas have two children and live close to heartland. Caleb is brokering horses and Kas has become a partner with Scott in the vet business. Scott still holds out Ty's partnership which has been increasingly more problematic as his clinic is growing and new doctors are needed.

He is Awake!

Jack and Lyndy are driving to Greenbriar Care Center to visit Ty when Lyndy says, "GG, I think today daddy is going to wake up from his sleep".

Jack, who has been fielding these comments for the last 5 years responds, "Well Lyndi, I hope today is the day that Ty wakes up, but you know, we have had

this conversation many times on our trips to see him only to be disappointed when it doesn't happen. Why do you think today is the day?"

Lyndy responds, "GG, I pray every time we make these trips that daddy will wake up. You remember what the doctor said? That nothing physical is keeping him asleep! So today I think is the day he wakes up."

"Let's hope today IS the day, Lyndy" as Jack is turning into the parking lot of the care facility.

The doctor and his nurse are making the rounds at Greenbriar and are going into Ty's room. Ty lays motionless on the bed with only one monitor connected to his heart rhythm that sounds off at each beat of his heart. The nurse tell Dr. Jones, "I think Mr. Bartlett and Amy will be visiting Ty today. Is there anything that you would like me to tell them?"

The doctor is looking at the activity from the heart monitor and notices some increases in his heart rate over the last 24 hours. So He asks, "Have you noticed the increase in heart activity today? " Which the nurse responded that she had not. Dr Jones says to the nurse, "Let's monitor this and see if there is some outside stimulus that is causing the increase in heart rate, or if it is just an anomaly. But let's not discuss this with the family until we know for sure what is going on."

Nurse Cindy responds, "Ok, doctor, I won't mention anything to them. However, I must say that Ty's family has been very consistent with visitation. Especially the young

daughter who reads and tells him stories from a journal her mother created about their life before the accident. What a miracle it would be if Ty were to awaken today and reunite with his family!"

Jack and Lyndi make it up to Ty's room and as they arrive both the doctor and nurse Cindy are wrapping up their testing. Jack asks, "Hi folks, anything changes with Ty today?" Both Dr. Jones and nurse Cindy respond that all is about the same and begin to leave the room.

On her way out, nurse Cindy tells Lyndy, " You need to keep telling your dad those stories today. I know that he really appreciates them! Lyndi replies, I am going to tell him the story about how he built the jumping gates in the pasture for my mom when they first met because Spartan could not be trailered to a nearby practice facility because of his involvement in an accident with my grandmother and Mom."

Nurse Cindy replied, "That sounds awesome, Lyndy. I know your dad will like that story." Cindy then left the room to Jack and Lyndi who took their normal places in the room. Jack at the head of the bed and Lyndy alongside Ty. Lyndy grabs her father's hand and begins to tell him the story.

"Dad, do you remember when you first met mom and she was going to work with Spartan to compete in the Fall Festival Jumping competition? Her friend had encouraged her to bring her horse to the local jump facility where they could both practice for the competition. Mom said that when you saw that she was having trouble getting Spartan into the trailer and that she had given up on the competition, you went out to the pasture and built her a practice facility out of logs so she could get ready for the event….."

At the same time, Nurse Cindy was working at the nurses station and she noticed that Ty's heart activity had increased and made a quick call to the doctor. " Doctor, I am at the station and I noticed that Ty Borden's heart activity is increasing. I know that Mr. Bartlett and his daughter are still here so I was wondering what to do."

"Go see what is going on in the room right now," he responds. So Nurse Cindy goes to the room where she sees Lyndy reading a story to her father and reports back to the doctor.

About that time Lyndy felt a slight squeeze of her hand that was clutching to her father's hand. She squeezed back and there was no response. Then, she squeezed again, and Ty's weak fingers squeezed Lyndy's hand again. At that time, she calls out to a

napping Jack, "GG, I think dad is waking up!" GG, wake up, I think dad is waking up, he is squeezing my hand!"

Jack immediately comes to where Lyndy is standing and she says "Watch! Dad, squeeze my hand, please dad squeeze my hand again!" To Jack's surprise Ty was trying to move his fingers.

At the same time, Nurse Cindy is coming in the door with Dr. Jones and Jack sounds off, " I think Ty is trying to move his fingers!" And Lindy, with tears in her eyes, says, "My daddy squeezed my hand!"

Dr. Jones then informs them that they notice some heart activity on the monitors over the last 24 hours and were going to give it a bit more time to make sure that it was not just an anomaly, which can happen with patients who are in a coma, before they alerted the family.

Dr. Jones begins to run some tests on his eye function and notices movement with the light probe he was using in Ty's eyes. As he starts to test his reflexes, Ty slowly tries to open his eyes. As he becomes more aware of his surroundings, Ty speaks out for the first time in over 5 years. "Jack, Jack where am I? What happened to me?

Jack is trying to hold back his tears of joy and with Lyndy holding on to Jack's hand he replies, "Ty, you are in the hospital and you collapsed from the effects of a gunshot wound you were recovering from. Ty, son, you have been in a coma for over 5 years and we have been waiting patiently for you to wake up! Ty, this is Lyndy, your daughter. She has been by your side for the last 5 years waiting for you to wake up. Man she told me that today was the day you would and she was right! Man, it is good to see you!

We haven't contacted the family yet, but I am sure they are going to be elated about this great news.

Ty looks at Lyndy, then back to Jack and states, "My Daughter?" Jack when did I get married? Also, who did I marry? How did that happen? The last thing I remember is coming to your ranch to work out the provision of my probation as a ranch hand. Also, when I arrived, you informed me that Marion, who had set this up, was killed in a truck accident. I am confused! I have a daughter? Who is her mother, my wife?

Completely overwhelmed by the conversation, Dr. Jones asks Jack to take Lyndy to the waiting room while they run some tests and settle Ty down. As they headed toward the waiting room, Lyndy, sobbing uncontrollably asked, "Jack, what is happening? Why doesn't dad know who I am?" Jack, stunned as well, replies, "Lyndi, I am sure this is a

temporary problem. We will have to wait for the doctor to tell us what is going on. But you need to remember what you said today in the truck, and today your wish came true. Your Dad is awake!"

Jack decides to call Lou who is working at Maggie's to tell her the good news. However, he leaves out the part that Ty has had a loss of memory. Jack asks Lou to reach out to Amy in Europe and give her the news. Lou, " Yes, yes, dad I will call her right now and give her the great news! Peter, Ty is awake! Let me call Amy right now. Let's go to the care center!"

Lou tries to call, but gets voicemail. So she reaches out to Ahmed's secretary to see if she can get in touch with Amy to tell her the good news.

The Family Gathers

Amy is celebrating another win on the European Tour with Ahmed and his team at his villa in France. Ahmed is speaking to Amy saying, "Amy, you are my lucky charm, my miracle girl. Because of you, I have opened my heart to love and have fallen in love. I want to thank you for everything, everything that you have done for me. I don't think I can ever repay you! Ahmed

leans over and kisses Amy and again, gushes over the success that he and Amy have had during this season.

Then, a very beautiful woman is walking toward the two and comes to a stop next to Amid. Amid takes her hand and kisses her on the lips. He says, "Honey, this is Amy, the woman who showed me that I could love and care for another woman. She was the one who opened my heart to love which allowed me to find happiness in our relationship. Amy, this is Natacia. Natacia, this is Amy.

Amy greets Natacia with a big smile. She gives her a big hug and says, "Amid, Natacia, I am so happy that you found each other and can share each other's lives together. My hope is that you guys find the same happiness that Ty and I found in our relationship.

Blessings to both of you for a long and happy life."

A messenger brings a note to Amy to call home immediately so she excuses herself from the group and goes to her room to call Lou. When Lou answers the phone, she says" Amy, I have the most wonderful news! Ty has regained consciousness and is doing well. You need to get home as soon as possible." Amy, stunned by the news, says, "Repeat what you just said, Ty has regained consciousness? Lou, "Yes Amy, Yes he is awake! Get home now!"

Amy hung up the phone and sat looking at the mirror. It has been 5 long years of waiting for Ty to come back to her, raising their daughter alone, enduring life as a single mother, Ty was finally back. Joy rushed through every bone and muscle in her body.

She was so filled with excitement she lost her breath. As she began taking long deep breaths she kept repeating to herself, "Ty's finally home."

Amy rushed back downstairs to tell Amid and his new wife the great news. When she reached the two, She was so excited, she could not even speak, "Amid, Amid you will never believe what has happened! You know that Ty has been in a coma for over 5 years, well he is awake. He woke up today and I need to get home to him! Ahmed replied, "Amy what wonderful news. I know that these years have been tough on you. I am so happy for you! Yes, Yes, go home now! As a matter of fact, I will have my jet fueled and ready to take you home tonight!" Amy, overwhelmed by the offer, said, "Thank you Amid, Amid thank you. You have been so generous to me! Thank you!" Amy retreats to her room, packs her clothes , then goes downstairs where a car is waiting to bring her to the airport.

Most of the local family was gathering at the care center to visit with Ty . Dr. Jones was conducting his testing and has determined that Ty has suffered from Amnesia. His last recollection was when he first arrived at Heartland. Dr. Jones asked, "Ty what do you remember about your life?" To which Ty Answered, " I remember that I was caught stealing and was put in Juvenile detention. Marion Fleming agreed to allow me to work as a ranch hand during my probation period at their Heartland Ranch. I remember arriving at Heartland to find out from Jack that Marion had passed away in an accident that involved her and her daughter Amy. I remember Jack allowing me to stay at Heartland and fulfill the obligation that Marion had agreed to." Dr. Jones asked, "Do you remember anything else about your life? Did you know that you married Amy and you have a daughter who you met earlier nAhmed Lyndi? Do you remember that you are a veterinarian and had a successful practice with your wife Amy ?" Ty trying to collect his thoughts is silent for some time. He replies, "I don't have any recollection of that at all!

My God, how old am I? How long have I been in a coma?" To which the doctor replied, " You are 37 years old and it has been almost 5 years."

Ty goes silent again for some time then says, "Doctor, that means that I have lost over 15 years of memories. How do I get that back?" Dr. Jones responds, "Well, Ty it is not uncommon for coma patients who have been in a coma for over 5 years to experience amnesia and lose large chunks of memory. Generally, with therapy and the help of their families, many patients get most if not all of their memory back. However, I must be honest and say some never do and those memories and skills have to be rebuilt or abandoned"

After discussing his situation with Dr. Jones, Ty is thoroughly exhausted by what he has been told and wants to be left alone to contemplate his thoughts.

The flight from France to Hudson takes about 10 hours. During that time, Amy has had a chance to reflect on how she would handle her reunion with Ty after 5 long years. Her

mood would swing from total joy to panic as she contemplated her meeting with Ty. Many questions were left unanswered as she left in such a hurry from France. What is he going to be like, What will he remember? Will he still love her? Will their relationship be the same? Amy remembers conversations with the doctors early on that warned her that if Ty would come out of the coma he might suffer amnesia and lose a lot of his memory.

As the plane touched down, Amy was looking out the window where she saw Lyndi and Jack, waiting by the truck to pick her up. She exited the plane and immediately grabbed hold of Lyndi and said, "Sweety, your prayers have been answered! Your Dad is awake!" She hugged and embraced her and they both cried from joy. She then focused on Jack and said, "Grandpa, thank you so much for being with Lyndi today. I know this has meant a lot to her and having you there had to be very special. So catch me up!"

Jack began at the beginning of the day when Lyndi told Jack that today she thought her dad would wake up. He then told her how Ty had squeezed Lyndi's hand. Then, he told her about him calling out his name when he opened his eyes. With each line of the story, Amy's heart was beginning to fill with excitement to see her Ty. Then Jack said, "Amy, you need to know that Ty has amnesia and has lost some of this memory. I don't know the extent of it because we had to leave while they were testing him to come pick you up. I asked the doctor to wait until we got there to give us his assessment of Ty's condition."

At the hospital the family was gathering. Tim, getting impatient, goes to the nurse, "I want answers he blasts! We deserve answers and want to see Ty." Dr. Jones rounds the corner and sits with the family. "Sir, '' he says, '' Calm down. We will get you an update when Jack and Amy arrive from the airport. So please settle down or we will have to ask you to leave."

Lou has been sitting patiently next to Tim and is trying to settle him down. Peter comes in and Lou immediately goes to him and begins to update him about what she knows. "Peter, Ty has awakened from his coma and we are waiting for Amy to get here for an update on his condition. I know he is up and talking and the doctor has been running tests, but that is all we know" Peter embracing Lou says, "Honey, calm down. Amy, Jack and Lyndi are on their way from the airport and should be here any minute." Lou then responds, "Did you call Georgie and give her the news?" "Yes I did and she will be home in a few days. The trials have a qualifier tomorrow and after the event She and Clint will be home."

"Great!" Says Lou, "I know she will be excited to see Ty."

Amy, Jack and Lyndi arrive at the hospital and immediately go to the waiting room to meet up with the other family members who are there. After greeting everyone, Amy hugs Lou and says, "Lou I don't know how I should feel. I have waited for this moment for so long. My emotions are all over the place. I don't know how Ty will respond to seeing me! Lou responds with a big hug and tells Amy it is going to be alright.

Dr. Jones and nurse Cindy enter the waiting room and gather the family together. He then begins to update the family on the prognosis of Tys condition. "As you are aware, Ty has come out of his coma and is resting comfortably in his room. We have put him on some sedatives to calm him down, but he is awake and alert. Physically he is in really great shape considering the length of time he has been in the coma. However, after running a series of memory tests we have concluded that the amount of memory loss is quite extensive and he can't remember anything past his arrival at heartland. He does remember Jack and Amy, but only to the extent of his initial greeting. He has no recollection of his marriage to Amy, your daughter Lyndi, or that he was a veterinarian. That was pretty much the extent of our testing for now, however in the coming days we will want to challenge him with more events in his life to further assess his loss of memory. The good news is that many coma patients will regain portions if not all of their memory over time.

Tim fires back, "How much time. What can we do to speed this up!" Dr. Jones responds, "We don't know how long, it is really up to the therapy and working with him to replay his life. It could be months or even years, We just don't know. Tim is not satisfied with that answer, buffs. "Come on doctor, you can be more precise. We should get another opinion!" Amy chimes in, "Dad stop! Dr. Jones has been with us since the beginning and he knows what he is talking about." Then she asked the doctor, "Can we bring him back to Heartland?"

"Yes, Amy, that is what I would suggest. However you must take it slow and be patient with him.

Then Dr Jones pauses before he addresses Amy again. " Look, Amy, Ty does not remember your marriage or his married life, at all. I would suggest that you go slow with introducing your relationship to him. Let those memories and feelings come back on their own and be there to help him recall those events. Remember, right now, all Ty knows about you is that you were Jack's daughter. I might suggest that you return him to that place in his life and build from there. I know that will be difficult, but if you try to introduce new things too fast, it might slow down his progress. "

Amy, looking at Jack, says, "Grandpa, we should put Ty up in the loft when we get home. What do you think?" Jack Responds, " I think that would be the best."

All the family then moves to Ty's room where he stayed for the last 5 years. As they gather around the bed, Dr. Jones asks Ty, " Who do you remember, Ty?" As Ty moves around the room with his eyes, he sees Jack, first, then Amy, then Lou. He says, "Jack, I remember my first visit to Heartland and when I questioned you about Amy and Lou, you told me that they were your granddaughters and that they were off limits. I think you even said if anything or any part of me comes within 10 feet of them, you would cut it off!" Jack, laughing, said, "You are right Ty! You are right!". As his eyes move around the room, he does not recognize anyone else so Jack begins to introduce them. "Ty this is Peter, Lou's husband. This is Tim, Amy and Lou's father, and Lyndi's grandfather.

And this little beauty is Lyndi, you and Amy's daughter. And of course, this is Amy, your wife."

Ty became very emotional as his eyes were moving back and forth between Amy and Lindi. He was speechless and was visibly shaken. At that time Amy grabbed Ty's hand and softly said, "Ty, I know this is difficult for you and you probably are feeling very overwhelmed. So am I, but I promise that we will get through this and you will remember the wonderful life we have with Lyndi and our family. We are going to take this slow and I will be with you all the way. I love you Ty and so do all of these family members. We will help you regain your memories! I promise!" She then kisses Ty on the forehead and slowly releases his hand.

Amy and Jack decide to fix up the loft and have Ty stay there until he progresses to the point that he remembers his marriage to Amy. Then they will move back together in the house. Amy then goes back to Heartland to prepare for Ty's homecoming. The rest of the family disburse and go about their business for the day.

The Homecoming

The loft has been vacant for some time and in quite a disarray since Georgie has been in Europe preparing for the Olympics. Amy and Lyndi went up to the loft to prepare it for Ty's homecoming. Lyndi says, ``Mom, I think we should put pictures around and the book that you created for me to read to Dad of the events of our lives when I went to the care facility." Amy replied, "Yes, Lindi, Yes. Why don't you go get those things and bring them up here. I have a few in the office that I will bring up as well."

At that time Lyndi ran back to the house and left

Amy by herself to finish straightening things up. Amy stopped and began remembering the times that she and Ty spent in the loft and how special a place it was to both of them. All of the sudden she began to weep, uncontrollably. All the pent up emotion that was suppressed with the events leading up to now came out. She tries to gather herself before Lyndi comes back but she can't. Upon Lyndi's return with an armful of items, she sees her mom struggling to get a hold on her emotions and puts down her things and goes to her and hugs her tightly. "Mom", she says. "Everything is going to be alright.

We are going to get Dad through this and he will remember everything. I know this mom, I love you so much and want you to know that I am here for you and Dad. We will get through this. I promise!" Amy looking down into Lyndi's deep green eyes says, "Lyndi, how did you get so strong and how can you be so confident?" Lyndi, "Mom, I am strong because I have you as my mother, I am confident because I prayed for dad to wake up and he did. Now I am praying that he will regain his memory and I know he will! Amy gives Lyndi another big hug and they finish preparing the loft for Ty's homecoming.

Amy makes the turn down the road leading up to Heartland with Ty and Jack in the back seat and Lyndi in front with her. As they approach the ranch, Ty says, "I remember this place. Look there is the barn and the loft where I stayed. Wow, look at all these horses out in the pasture, I don't remember there being that many last time I was here." Jack says, "Your right Ty, Amy has been quite successful with her business of working with troubled horses and now she has folks sending her horses for her to train for show jumping from all over the world. Thanks to her work with…."

Amy interrupts Jack and stops him from going any further in the conversation because she did not want to let Ty know that she was working with Ahmed and his horses.

Ahmed broke up their engagement and the last thing she wanted Ty to remember first was that event in their lives.

Amy pulls up to the barn and Ty slowly gets out of the truck. Jack grabs his bag of personal items and they enter the barn from the office. As Ty is approaching the door, he notices the plaque with his name and Amy's engraved into it. He touches the plaque, then looks back at Amy. "You are going to tell me about this, right?" and Amy with a big smile says, "Yes, Ty. We can talk about this, but let's get you up to the loft and get you settled, ok?" Ty, "Right" Again ty touches the plaque as he opens the door and goes up the stairs to the loft.

"Wow! This is not how I remember this loft! This is awfully nice. Amy, "When we were married Jack and Tim renovated this loft and we spent our first years here with Lyndi." Ty, "Really, this is nice. I remember it to be very cold, leaky, and noisy with the horses below." Amy, "Well, we couldn't eliminate all the horse noises, but it is much more comfortable. Also, Georgie, Lou's daughter moved into the loft when we decided to move back into the house. She is away getting ready to compete in the Olympics so it has not been used for a while."

Jack puts down Ty's things and asks Lyndi if she would like to help him with some chores before lunch. Lyndi, wanting to stay, looks at Amy and realizes that they could use some personal time together so she answers, "Sure, Jack. Mom, I will leave you and Dad to it." Both she and Jack head down the stairs into the barn.

Alone together, Ty sits down on the couch beside Amy and says, "When I first got here, I remember you were very mad at me for driving my truck next to your horse and spooking him. Also, I remember you were struggling with that black horse that you and your mother rescued. By the way, I am very sorry that you lost your mom in that accident. I also remember asking Jack about you and he told me that if any part of me got within 10 feet of you or Lou, that it would be cut off! Both Amy and Ty are laughing. Ty: "How did we ever get from there to marriage and a daughter?" Amy: "That is the challenge we have in front of us. Lyndi and I have put some pictures and things around there to help you remember events in our lives, and also, I created this book for Lyndi to read to you while you were in a coma. We put those things up here so you could see and read them at your own pace. Hopefully, as the doctor said, your recollection of these events will start coming back to you as you piece your life back together."

Amy picks up Ty's hand and while holding it says, "Ty, you are my world, my everything. I loved you almost from the day we met. I am having a hard time not being able to hold you and express my love for you that I have been missing for the past 5 years. I understand that we need to take things slow, but you need to know that we were great, better than great, we had reached many of our dreams that we had planned over the 8 years of courtship and 4 years of marriage, and we were happy, truly happy! My hope is that you will remember us and Lyndi. Especially Lyndi, she has spent the last 5 years praying for you and visiting you as often as she could. Reading out of this journal.

Hoping you would wake up and be with her again. I know Ty we need to take this slow, but I need you! You were our rock and when you became ill, our worlds where turned upside down and we had to quickly adjust to a life without you. Now that you are back, I hope we can get back to the place that we left. I really, really missed you Ty!"

Ty responds to a tearing Amy, "Amy, I do remember that when we first met watching you work with Spartan getting him over the trauma of the accident, dealing with the loss of your mother, interacting with your family, taking over your mothers practice, was very attractive to me. I remember thinking how kind and patient you were as you dealt with those hardships of your young life. I remember wanting to help you anyway that I could, but always seemed to be one step behind. I remember going to a party and your boyfriend was drunk and was mishandling you so I stepped in and tried to rescue you from his advances only to be scolded by you for my efforts. Then, as you were walking home, I followed you in my truck so that I could give you a lift. You were stubborn, but when I told you that I had a heater in my truck you jumped in." Amy, laughing, "Only to find out you had a heater, but it was broken'' Ty, "Well, you didn't have to walk home did you?"

Then Amy asked, "Ty, do you remember helping me get Spartan into the trailer?" Ty, "I do! I remember that your friend wanted you to compete with her in some horse jumping competition" Amy interjects, "Horse Jumping competition, that would be equestrian jumping competition, boy do we have some work ahead of us!" Ty finished his comment, "and you guys needed to get your horses to the practice facility, but Spartan would not go into the trailer. I think I might have told you to open the back door. And when you did, he eventually gave in and went into the trailer". Amy, "You are right, but do you remember what you did for me while we were working through Spartan's fear of the trailer?" Thinking for a moment, Ty could not remember. So Amy replied, "No worries, we can work on that memory later. Why don't you rest and we will come get you for supper."

So as Amy was about to leave, Ty asked, "So what happened to Spartan?" Amy said, "Follow me" and she took him down to the barn where Spartan was hanging out of his

stall. He is now almost 20 years old and has been retired to pasture, but still resides in the same stall he occupied from his first visit. Ty rubbed his forehead and said, "How are you Spartan, did you miss me?" Amy, a bit stunned by how Ty was rubbing his forehead, asked "Ty, what made you rub his forehead like that? Ty replied, "I remember you told me that was called Tea touching, and I had seen you do it many times with horses that you consoled." Amy thought to herself that this could be a breakthrough.

Amy, "Ok, so supper will be ready at 6. You go get some rest!"

Amy retreats to the house where Lou is fixing supper. However, Ty, before going to the loft, decides to revisit the plaque outside the office door with he and Amy's name on it. As he runs his fingers around the engraved names, he begins to recall more memories of he and Amy in those beginning years. As those thoughts become more vivid he begins to remember the strong attraction for Amy that he had back then.

Ty retreats to the loft and as he is scanning the pictures that Lyndi and Amy put on the walls, he notices a picture of a jumping track made out of timbers. He then started recalling that he had made this for Amy when she needed to practice for an event.

Spartan was not trailer able so he felt that building that track would solve her problem with practice. He remembered how grateful she was that Ty thought enough about her to build the track.

Next, he scanned a picture of Amy sitting on a horse she had helped after the first Heartland clinic that was held since her mother died. He remembers at that clinic Amy was showing her work with an aggressive horse from FairField Stables that would not allow anyone to ride him. She was able to gentle the horse once she realized his previous owner was blind and rode him bareback. She was then put on the spot by a guest who thought the horse was drugged. She challenged Amy to fix her horse that she paid a lot of money for. It would not jump. So after several tries, Amy was able to convince the horse to jump and she met the challenge by the spectator. He remembered how awesome he thought Amy was after that event and realized how he was so attracted to her ability to work with troubled horses. He also remembered the after party that was held, Amy got jealous because he took Ashley for a ride on her brother's motorcycle.

It was almost six so Ty headed to the house for supper hoping to tell Amy about his new recollections.

Revisiting The Beginning

As Ty enters the house he is greeted by a cheerful Lyndi who says, "Dad you are going to love the dinner that Lou has prepared for your homecoming. And I helped her with the desert which you are going to love. Dad, did you get a chance to go through some of the pictures mom and I put in the loft?"

Ty replies, "I can't wait for dinner,

especially dessert, and yes I had a chance to go through some of the pictures and I remember some of the events surrounding them."

Amy approached Ty and asked, "Did you get any rest?" to which Ty replied, "Amy no I didn't, but I have to tell you that I am recalling some events and times in our life. Those pictures are stirring up emotions and feelings about our relationship that I can't wait to discuss with you."

Amy, "How about we take some time after dinner and go to the loft and talk about it." Ty, "That is great. I can't wait! Lou, where do you want me to sit."

At the table was Lou, Peter, Katie, Jack, Lyndi, Amy, Tim and Shane. As Ty looked around the table he recognized Lou and Tim from his earlier recollections. Addressing Tim, Ty asked, " So Tim, I recall some strained relationship between you and Jack.

Now you are sitting at the table. Obviously, those feelings have been resolved, right?" Jack in his usual manner chimes in, "We have come to tolerate each other". To which Tim replies, "Come on Jack, we have become best friends and business partners! Ty, we have and I saved Jack's life twice!" Jack, "Here we go again, yes Tim did save my life when I had a heart attack some years ago, but he caused it! Both guys started laughing and continued eating.

Ty, "So Lou, this is a great dinner. Thank you so much! So Lou, I remember you left New York after Marion passed and you came to Heartland to take over the business. What is going on in your life?" So Lou starts with introducing her family, "Ty, this is my husband Peter, we have two daughters, Katie here, and Georgie who is preparing to compete in the Olympics and will be home in the next few days. We live at FairField Estates, the stable that Jack's wife Lisa owns. Peter and I run the stable business, our dude ranch, and Maggie's downtown. Do you remember any of that?"

Ty, "Jack, you are married, wow, who would have thought! Lou, I really only recall a few things from my past about you. I was looking at a picture of when Amy won the fall challenge and the guy that Amy and Marion rescued Spartan from came to the event to take him back. You were able to hold him off until the end and when he came to reclaim his horse, you presented him with a bill and a card from your New York attorney. If I am not mistaken, he threw the ownership papers back at you and that is how Amy wound up owning Spartan for good."

Amy, "Do you remember that? What else do you remember from that day?

Ty, "Yes Amy, I do remember that day! I left you to go find my father and try to patch things up with him. But I am not sure how I made it back to Heartland." Jack, " Ty, that is a long story for another time."

Amy, " I agree"

Tim chimes in after being a bit reserved, "Ty I would like you to meet Shane my son. Shane came into my life some years back when he was 10 or 11. His mother and I had dated when I was divorced from Marion, Amy's mother, and to my surprise some 10 years later I found out we had a son. Now Shane and I run the cattle business between Heartland and Big Sky, my ranch that is on the west side of Heartland."

Ty, "Well, I do remember the first time we met was at the party after Amy's clinic. You were in the barn with Pegasus and Jack came in and sent me away. I also remember you gave Amy Marion's ring to wear during her event at the fall challenge and she was so excited that you did that for her. Wow, that just came to me as I was talking!" Amy welling up as she listened to Ty was holding back her excitement as best she could.

Jack: "Ty, I want you to know that Lyndi wanted to go and visit her father almost every week. She was faithful to the core and she would tell you stories from that book that Amy had worked up that had many of the events of your lives together written down. Also, the day you woke up, she and I were going to see you and she told me that today was the day you would waken from your coma. And guess what, you did!" This little girl has been by your side and in your corner from the beginning, and I am really proud of her!"

Lyndi: "Dad, that is the book that is on your table in the Loft."

Ty: "Lyndi, thank you so much for your effort and I would love it if you could come and tell me some of the stories you told me when I was asleep."

Lyndi, "I would love to".

As the family is finishing up dinner, Lyndi says," Now for the desert. I fixed it myself. Well, I did have some help from Lou. Syscodine Pie, your favorite."

Ty" Lyndi, this is awesome, I was thinking about that as we passed Maggie's on the way here today.

Lyndi, "Well, then I will confess. We went and picked it up from there!"

Peter and Lou finish up the dishes as Amy heads back to the loft with Ty. Amy tries hard to hold back her enthusiasm about Ty's recollection but can't help asking some questions. "Ty. So how much do you recall? Is it singular events and the time that surrounds that event, or are blocks of time with events unfolding in it?"

Ty thought for a moment and answered, "I am not sure. I remember pretty much the day that you won the fall classic and much of the events that surround that day. I remember that my dad had sent me a letter asking me to come see him. I remember Clint coming and releasing me from probation. So I guess those were days that surrounded that event."

Amy, "Do remember leaving to go to your father and coming back 4 months later.

Ty responds, "Amy, I think there are some sad memories that surround those times and my mind just won't go there." "Interesting, you don't remember the bad things, only the good." she says with a smile on her face.

Ty, " Maybe that is a good thing! " and he laughs.

Amy and Ty get settled on the couch in the loft and Ty begins to ask her some questions. He gets up and goes over to the picture of the jumping track. Ty, "Amy, I remember building this for you. I felt so bad that you did not have your own place to practice and I knew you needed one."

Amy with a smile, "Ty, that is when I first started thinking you weren't such a bad guy after all!"

Ty, "You see this picture of you sitting on the horse during a clinic, I remember how awesome it was to see you work out that horse's temperament problem and how you handled that woman and her daughter when you got her horse to jump. That day was an awesome day! You even were jealous when you questioned me about taking a ride with that girl on the Ducati."

Amy, I wasn't jealous. You are not remembering that correctly…" and they both laughed.

Ty: "Amy, tell me the story behind the plaque."

So Amy begins to explain, "Well, you don't probably remember this, but you studied real hard and got your GED. You graduated top of your class! Then you began working with Scott, our veterinarian, learning about the medical side of animals and fell in love with

that career path, so you applied to college, then vet school and graduated with honors from both. You and I loved working together and one of our dreams was to open up a business that not only serviced the medical needs of horses, and other animals, but their emotional and homeopathic needs as well. The day you graduated from Vet school, I bought you a desk and chair, the one down in the office and that plaque with our name on it."

"Wow, Amy. Did we go into business?

Amy, "not exactly then! You see, Scott the vet that you interned with offered you a partnership right out of college and we put off our business for several years. But when Lindi came along, you decided it was time to follow our dream and we started up our business at that time."

Ty was taking everything in that Amy was saying but was having trouble getting his mind around those events. He looked at Amy and smiled and said, "I think we need to call it a night. I don't think my mind can handle any more stories. Can we do this again tomorrow".

Amy, getting up from the couch asks, "Ty, would it be all right if I hugged you before you go to bed?" Ty, not wasting any time, reaches over and pulls Amy to him. He whispers into her ear, "Amy, I am so sorry for leaving you all those years. I know it will take some time, but I promise to get us back to the place we were before the accident, I promise." He picks up her head and kisses her on the forehead like he had done so many times before.

Amy missed that touch of Ty, the way he embraced her, the way he gentled her, all of the sudden reclaimed those feelings and said, "Ty, I have always loved you from the moment we met. We have gone through some really tough times and have always made it through. I have missed being in your arms for so long! I know that we will get through this, I love you!"

Amy left the loft and went back to the house to go to bed. Back at the house Jack was sitting by the fire drinking his evening coffee hears Amy come in the back door. "Amy, so how is it having Ty back at Heartland?"

Amy, "Grandpa, I have missed him so much! But mostly, I have missed how Ty would embrace me and comfort me. I think of all the memories of our lives together, the one that sticks out the most is how Ty could comfort me and make me feel that everything would be alright. Just like you, Grandpa! Maybe that is why I love him so much!" Jack, " I love you Amy. You go get some sleep, it has been a long couple of days."

The First Trail Ride

Georgie, having just finished 1st in an Olympic Trial in Albany is packing her bags to go back to Hudson to visit the family and see Ty. Quinn was not going because he had to fly to Florida to meet with his father on some pressing matters.

Georgie, "Quinn, I sure wish you would be coming with me. I am not

sure what to expect when I get home. Lou tells me that Ty is slowly getting his memory back, but he may not recognize me when I get there. I don't know what I will do If Ty doesn't remember me? Quinn, embracing Georgie, "Georgie, it will be fine. Even if he doesn't remember you at first. Remember, your mom said to think back on stories that might trigger his memory about you and be prepared to tell them to him. I will call you every night to see how it is going. I love you" Georgie, " I love you too!

At the airport waiting to board, Georgie is recalling some important events that she can relay to Ty when she sees him. Her first thoughts were their initial meeting when he found her in the loft hiding and when she stole the engagement ring . Her thoughts went to the animal sanctuary where she helped Ty with the animals. Then, she thought about how she tried to gentle Ghost. She remembered the video between Amy and Ahmed, and all the harm that arose from that encounter. She remembered how supportive Ty was with her career and how he loved Amy so much he would do anything for her.

With her flight being delayed over 5 hours, by the time Georgie reached Heartland it was 2 AM. Tired from the dash to the airport, and the delayed flight, she decides to go to the loft directly and connect with the family in the morning.

In the loft, totally exhausted, she left her bags at the stairs, took off her clothes and went directly to bed. As she went to lay down, she pulled back the covers and Ty jumped up, "What the hell? Who are you? Startled and embarrassed, Georgie answers, "It is Georgie! Is that you, Ty? At this point Ty does not know what to say. Georgie darts back to the stairs and puts on her pants. Ty at this point gets up and puts on his pants. He remembers from supper that Georgie is Lou and Peter's daughter who was at the Olympic trials.

Ty: "Well, I guess we can now say we have met!

Georgie: Ty, I would have gone to the house if I had known you were in the loft. Why are you not with Amy?"

Ty, looking for an answer to that question says, " I am sure you are aware that I have some memory issues and we thought it best if I slept here! I am so sorry I startled you! I can move to the house if you would like."

Georgie, still a bit confused and startled, " No, Ty, I will sleep here on the couch and we can sort it out in the morning" Ty:, "Let me stay on the couch and you take the bed, I insist" So Ty moves onto the couch and Georgie takes her place on the bed.

The next morning, Ty has awakened early and has made some coffee. Not trying to wake Georgie, he quietly goes about getting everything together. Georgie, awakened by the smell of coffee, sits up and sees Ty rummaging around in the kitchen. She say" Good morning, did you find everything you needed? What a night, huh?

Ty laughing:, "You scared the hell out of me! Want some coffee?"

Georgie gets up and goes to the kitchen to receive the coffee that Ty had poured for her. She took a seat on the couch and saw the Life book open to some pictures of Georgie and Phoenix when they first arrived at Heartland. Ty had been going through those pictures trying to put any memory of Georgie from those pages.

Georgie asked Ty, "This picture, do you remember anything about it?" To which Ty replied, "I think I recall a young girl who stowed away in the loft, before it looked like this, and took the engagement ring I had planned to give Amy. I also remember Phoenix was the horse that kept coming to heartland from a stable nearby and the bond that developed between them. Also, I

remember that she was a foster kid looking to escape a bad home. And Amy begged Jack to file for temporary guardianship. Is that correct?"

At once Georgie's concern over visiting home was gone, and she began filling in some of the timeline related to Ty's memory. As she was telling the story of the engagement ring, Amy and Lyndi came up to the loft to invite Dad on a trail ride.

Amy laughing, chimed in, "Did she get to the part where it took you over a year to propose to me?

Ty: A year, why did I wait so long?"

Amy, "Will get to that later. How did you guys end up here?

Georgie, "Well, when I got home I was so tired I came up to the loft thinking it would be empty and went straight to bed.

Ty: "She scared the crap out of me!"

Georgie, "Being it was so late, I stayed here in the loft and Ty moved to the couch, offering me the bed."

Amy glancing down at the Life Book saw the picture of Georgie and Phoenix and said, "So did this picture get you to recall the engagement ring issue?"

Ty: "Yes, it did and I started to remember all the failed attempts I made to propose!" Amy, holding back her emotions that Ty was beginning to remember their engagement, said, " Yea, but when you finally did, it was magical!"

Lyndi was already downstairs tacking up the horses for the trail ride and since she had adopted Harley after the accident, she saddled another horse for herself and left Harley for her Dad. As Ty and Amy come out to the yard, Lyndi handing the reins to Ty says, "Dad, do you remember Harley? This is your horse. I adopted him while you were asleep and made sure he was exercised, groomed and fed just like you would have done.

Ty, stroking Harley's head, said, "Hey boy. How have you been? Do you remember me?"

Amy, "Ty, I think he does, look at his ears!"

So they all mounted their horses and headed out on the trail ride.

The first stop on the ride was the jumping track that Ty had built for Amy. Riding up to the track, much of it was still in the same condition as when he built it over 20 years ago.

Ty: "Wow, this place looks like it hasn't changed a bit. It is just as if I built it yesterday!" Amy: "That is because Lindi and I use this to practice jumping and liberty work when we need to get away from the ranch"

Ty: "Liberty work? What is that?"

Lyndi: "Mom, show Dad how awesome Zues is with Liberty moves?"

Amy, jumping off Zues, begins doing some basic liberty moves. As she finishes she turns Zues to Ty and has him bow down. Ty, completely overcome with emotions, remembers the dark horse audition. And says, "Amy, I remember when you were asked to audition for that liberty show..I think is was Dark...Dark"

Amy, "Dark Horse. That was Renaldo!"

Ty" I remember that I wanted to propose to you after the audition but you said that we should not limit each other and be open to these opportunities. So I decided to put it off until you were ready for an engagement proposal."

Amy "I remember finding the ring in your pocket that night and was upset that you never would propose to me"

Lyndi by now is laughing at her mom and dad quibbling over that night's events. She asks, "Mom why did it take a year for Dad to propose. Did it have anything to do with Georgie stealing the ring?

By now Amy, Ty, and Lyndi are sitting on a timber that made up one of the jumps and Amy begins to tell the story. "Lindi, Dad had bought the ring after a bad motorcycle accident that he and your GG had at Eagles Lake. After my audition for Dark Horse I turned down the offer because I felt that my work with troubled horses was the direction that I wanted to go, and your Dad and I had begun to dream of working together when he got out of school."

Ty breaks in, "So that night I was all ready to propose and your mom said that we should never limit ourselves and be open to all opportunities that would be presented to us in the future!"

Amy, scours back, "Ty, that was not at all what I meant and you know it! You just didn't ask! Remember, I found the ring in your pocket so I knew your intentions. However, I waited and waited four months and you never asked me. So, I thought something had changed your mind."

Ty: "It did, but after a while I knew the time was right and I asked you out on a date, a nice dinner as I recall"

Amy, "And he spilled water all over my dress and shoes!"

Lundi is laughing at not only the story but the bantering back and forth as her parents are telling the story.

Ty: "Well, I was nervous and did not know how you would answer. Anyway that date was a bust so the next day, after your Aunt Lou came to talk with me, I decided to set up another date to propose. This time, when I went to get the ring from my drawer, it was gone! I was frantic, here I setup this special date to propose and NO RING!"

Amy: I was pretty upset by now because I was expecting a proposal and nothing happened. I thought it was something that I did or said that changed your dad's mind. But as fate would have it, Georgie had snuck into the loft and stole the ring so she could pay for her trip to see her brother."

Amy, overcome with emotion, says, "Ty, you remember all of that?

Ty: "There is more! So I got home from the date and found Georgie hiding in the loft. I think she sneezed. After a couple of days of uncertainty about Georgie's future it was finally settled that she would temporarily stay at Heartland until further arrangements could be made."

Amy: "This is when it gets interesting. So Georgie, elated over the news that Heartland would be her home, wanted to get off on the right foot and told me she had taken

something from the loft. And wouldn't you know it, she handed me the ring! I didn't know what to do, so I went up to the loft to put it back in Ty's drawer when he came upstairs and asked me that I was doing."

Ty: She gave me the ring! Can you believe it, the ring that I thought I had lost, she gave me the ring!

So Lyndi, now fully engrossed into the story says, "So what happened next?"

Ty: "Well, I botched the whole proposal! I didn't know what to do, so I told your mom, let's just do it. I went over to the drawer, got the ring and was about to hand it to her when she…"

Amy: "I told him that the proposal needed to be special. A special time, a special place…It needed to be magical!

Ty: "She said No!"

Amy: "Ty. That is not true! I just wanted our proposal to be more than "Let's get married..here is the ring!

Amy laughing now says, "Ty, I need to finish this story because obviously your recollection of events is a bit foggy! So your Dad and I agreed that when the time was right we would become engaged but until then things needed to go back to normal." Lyndi: "So, Dad, how did you propose?"

Ty puts his head down and his hands upon his head, "I am not sure, I don't remember" Lyndi: "Dad don't worry, you will, I promise"

Amy: "I will tell you it was the most magical night of my life! Your dad did not disappoint!"

Getting back on their horses the three head back to Heartland to complete their ride. As Ty was riding back he could not help but be upset that he did not remember the proposal. Amy wanted to help Ty fill in the gaps of his memory, but felt having him recall those memories on his own was more important. Even the doctor advised her to let Ty fill out the stories on his own. This would engage his permanent memory and would lead to unlocking those hidden events that the amnesia was suppressing.

At the barn, Lyndi offers to take and untack the horses and takes them away. Amy and Ty decide to take a walk around the lake to the boat. After an emotional few hours, Ty grabs Amy's hand as they walk to the boat. Silently they walked until Amy asked, "Ty, do you remember this place in our story today?"

Ty: "Amy, I do. This is where we decided to just let things go back to normal until we were both ready to be engaged.

Ty then turns to Amy and grabs the other hand. Looking into her eyes, Ty is feeling all those things he felt that day when they decided to put off their engagement and says, "Amy, I want to remember when we were engaged! I am trying so hard to remember, I just don't! I feel so connected to you right now and I am overwhelmed by your beauty, your spirit, your patience, your humor. I remember falling in love with you! I am beginning to remember little intimate things about our relationship that grew my love for you. I remember never wanting to hurt you. And always wanting you to come to me when you are ready!"

With a sweet soft voice says, "Ty, you will remember. I know you will! Our engagement, well, It was the most magical day of our lives except for the day I told you that you were going to be a father"

Ty then pulls Amy close to him and peering deep into her beautiful blue eyes begins slowly to touch his lips to hers. Amy is overwhelmed with joy, it has been five tough years without any physical connection, or for that matter, any connection to the man she grew to love immensely. A moment that she had dreamed for those long years when she would be able to touch the lips of her husband. As their lips touched, they couldn't help but become emotional. Tears fell from both their eyes as they embraced harder and harder, their lips closer and tighter, and their bodies touching as they stood there together, on the bank where they had kissed so many times before. With all the energy that can be expelled they stood there hugging and kissing for what seemed like an eternity.

Amy: "Ty, I love you so much! I have waited for this moment for a long time. I don't want this to end!"

Ty: "I love you too! My heart is so full! I love you Amy, I love you, too"

Ty takes Amy's hand and they start walking back to the house where everyone is gathered to tell them the good news of Ty's recollection.

Gentling the Wildy

It has been several weeks and Ty's is slowly recalling events in his life.

Unfortunately, he still does not remember the engagement, marriage, or Lyndi, and is getting somewhat frustrated with that.

Every spare moment he spends time in the book that Amy created for Lyndi to read to him while he was in the coma. He would ask questions about pictures or journal

entries that he read with a hope to recall some of his memory.

All the while his feelings for Amy are growing stronger as he watches the way she handles troubled horses. He is amazed, as before, how she manages and resolves the issues with both horses and riders and how she never gives up on a problem.

On this day however, there was a horse in the round pen that Amy was working with that seemed not to want to cooperate. So Ty, walking up to the pen, hops up on the fence and asks a frustrated Amy, "What's the problem with this guy?"

Amy, clearly exhausted by her effort, say" This is one of our wildies. Do you remember Pike River when we saved those horses that were trapped from the avalanche? Or Will Vernon?

Ty: "Pike River, I saw a picture of you and me standing in front of a mountain of snow that looked like you were leading horses through a dug out trench. Is that what you are talking about?"

Amy: Yes, Pike River is a very special place for you and me! Let me let this guy cool down and we can go up to the loft and I will tell you about it.

About that time, Lyndi was walking up to the pen and Amy asked, "Lyndi, would you like to come up to the loft and listen as I tell Ty about Pike River? I want to tell him about the wildies that we have on our property.

So all three head up to the loft. Amy makes a fresh cut of coffee and pours her and Ty a cup. Lyndi pulls a drink from the refrigerator and Amy and Ty sit on the couch and Lyndi between them. She opens the book to the picture Ty is referring to and begins to tell the story about how they rescued the horses that were trapped¹ at Pike River.

Amy, turning to another picture of her and Ty at Pike River with a herd of horses behind them, says, "Ty, do you remember this? Ty is trying but clearly does not know. Amy proceeds, "There was a man nAhmed Will Vernon who was one of my grandfather's best friends. They rodeoed together. Had a band together, matter of fact grandpa introduced him to his wife. Well, he had a large ranch up at Pike River and on that ranch were these wild mustangs. You and I went up there when we heard they were going to cull the herd to try and stop them. We were engaged, but were going through a rough patch in our relationship. We were able to change the minds of the folks that started the cull and they returned the herd to Will's land but not until after some really tense moments. This picture was taken while I was in the field trying to get close to this black stallion who was the leader of the pack.

Ty sat back and started to recall some of the story. Ty: "Will Vernon has passed away, right? I think he and Jack were going to go to the fishing camp, which they had arranged on that visit. Jack was so excited for Will's visit, but I think his wife came and informed Jack that he had died. Jack was so upset.

Amy: "You remember the fishing camp?" Ty: "Yes, I guess I do!"

Amy: "Do you remember anything else about that fishing camp?"

Amy flips to the page where she wrote about when she told Ty that she loved him for the first time. With the story was a picture of him in the bed sipping a cup of tea looking pretty pale.

Amy: "It was a hard cold winter and we had heard about some wild horses that were going to starve to death if we didn't get some hay up to them so they could weather the cold. You got really sick up there and I had to take care of you. That next morning, you were feeling a bit better, and I saw Ghost, this white speckled horse that you saw before you passed out. We went outside and he came to you and let you pet him. Also, Ty, that day was the first time I told you that I loved you! That I always loved you!"

Lyndi, engrossed in the story, said, "Wow, haven't we seen that horse around here several times?"

Amy, "Yes, and there are some events and stories in this book about that horse and how it has played a role in your dad and I's relationship"

Ty: "Amy, this is all coming together for me!" I do remember the fishing camp trip we took to feed the horses. I remember that was the first time you and I had really spent alone time away from Heartland. I remember you telling me that you loved me, and how I felt knowing that you felt the same way about me as I did about you!"

Amy reaches over, embraces and kisses Ty. Lyndi: "Daddy, you are getting it back! You are getting your memory back. I am so happy!"

Amy, wanting to return to the Pike River story, says, "So let's get back to Pike River. You remember Will passed away, well, all those horses were going to be rounded up and sold to the meat factory because no one was around to take care of them. So Grandpa, you, and I decided to home those horses on the property that Grandpa gave us to build our house on. That horse out there is one of those wildies. I am trying to gentle one for Lyndi. You know she has been taking great care of Harley while you were in the care facility, but now, since you are back, we need to get her a horse of her own and she picked out that horse from the herd."

Ty: "So you mean those horses are here, at Heartland? Can we go see them on our next ride?"

Amy, "Sure how about tomorrow we go and see them."

Ty, still with his arm around Amy: "So we were going through a rough patch?"

Amy laughing, "Yeah, but we patched things up when YOU came around at Pike River," Ty:, "Me?"

Amy, "Yes, You!"

That next morning Ty, Amy, and Lyndi saddle up and begin their trail ride to see the wildes. On the way there Ty confesses to Amy that he had another sleepless night thinking about the conversations from yesterday. Ty said, "Amy, I had a flood of memories come back to be around that Pike River story. I do remember that we were engaged, but were not speaking to each other. I remember Tim tricking me into going up there because he was trying to get us back together. But when I got there, you really didn't want anything to do with me. I remember how I felt seeing you handle all those men who just wanted to destroy those horses, and how you worked tirelessly trying to save them. I remember how proud I was of you, and most importantly, I remember we got back together that night. However, what I don't remember is what split us up?"

Amy, clearly not wanting to answer Ty's question, stops her horse, "Everyone, get off your horse and listen." You could feel the earth rumble and hear the sound of horses running.

Amy", Here that! Here they come! Let's go get a better look. They always come through the valley on their way to the lake."

All three mount their horses and gallop toward the weather house foundation that sat upon the point looking over the valley. As they came to a stop, the horses were running fast across the valley as they do almost every day on their way to the lake. Ty, is sitting speechless atop his horse watching as the last horse clears the view. Then, he looks

around and starts to notice the house foundation, the swing, broken lumber laying around and asks, "What is this place? It looks so familiar!"

Amy, "Ty, this was the home we were building before the accident! I didn't know how this was going to turn out, so I discontinued the construction and have pretty much left it to the weather. I am so sorry, Ty!"

Lyndi, chiming in, "Dad, do you remember this swing? " You used to bring me here and swing me as we watched the horses!"

Ty is making his best effort to recall any of this and can't. Not wanting to upset anyone, He say, "Guys, this is so familiar".

Lyndi exclaimed, "Daddy, you will remember this, I know it!"

Amy under her breath, "Ty, you don't remember do you?" Ty shakes his head no.

As they focus their horses back toward the barn, Ty is struggling with the visions surrounding the house. He looks at Amy, then Lindi, and begins to feel overwhelmed with the understanding now that he has lost so much of his memory. He rides up to Amy and grabs her hand. Pulling her horse to a stop, Ty reaches over and kisses her. "Amy, I love you so much. I just wish I could remember now! I love you."

Amy replied, "Ty, we had, and now have a great life. Everything you and I dreAhmed had come true! I love you too!"

Ghost

For the next few days Ty was filled with recollections of time and events in his life. He would trail ride back to the place where he and Amy were going to build their house and watch as the wildies would make their morning trek to the lake. Each day, more and more events became clear to him and things were starting to make a little more sense. Though he

remembers his engagement to Amy, he does not remember when or how he asked her. Also, he still has no recollection of Lyndi. Those thoughts weigh heavily on his mind because he really wanted to remember those events.

That night at the dinner table Ty was telling everyone about his new recollections. He said, "Guys, I am really stoked about all the new memories I have been having. Pike River, Will Vernon, the wildies. Heck, I even remember that Amy and I got back together at Pike River and that I was engaged."

At that point Tim chimes in, "Yeah, if I wouldn't have tricked you into coming, you probably would not be here today".

Ty: "Thanks for that!, But what I can't remember is why we were apart, or what happened."

Tim, "Well I will tell you Why!

Amber, "Dad, No!" It is best if Ty remembers on his own. Remember that is what the doctor ordered"

Tim, being a bit confused, "Why I don't see why we don't tell him, hell you are…." Amy, in a stern voice, "Enough, Dad. Ty has to figure this out on his own!

Tim, backing off, "OK, I just mean…. Amy, forcefully, "Dad!"

At this point, Ty's interest has peaked, but decides to wait until later to confront Amy about the conversation. Jack then starts talking about his buddy Will Vernon. "You know Ty, Will was really grateful to you and Amy for all the help you gave him in saving his horses. That is why we, including you, decided that the best place to keep those wildies was on you guys property. And I must say, I think they have really adapted to

their home. You know, I even see that Ghost horse around every so often. I think that horse had a special relationship with you and Amy, Right?"

Ty, "You know Jack, the more times I go out and visit those horses and watch them run to the lake, I remember Ghost. He seemed to appear in times of trouble for me and Amy!.

Georgie, who had been at the table quietly listening, chimed in. "Ty, Do you remember when I tried to gentle him. I thought since Amy tried and wasn't successful, that I could get it done. Boy was I wrong!"

Ty: "Georgie, I remember that I let him go out of the pen once and Amy got real mad at me because she was scared that he would get shot by ranchers not wanting a wildy eating all the hay. So Jack and I push him, a mare and her colt up to the mountains to get them out of harm's way."

Amy, "Ty, you remember that?"

Ty, "I do, but I also remember that you and I had split up for some reason and Caleb tricked me into letting him go so he could play the hero with you. I probably would have let him go anyway, but I was played."

Amy, " Well, it worked out that you were right and Ghost had a family and he wanted to get back to them and was really unsettled at Heartland. Also, that event helped us get back on track with our relationship."

After dinner, Ty and Amy are walking back to the loft when Ty asks, "Amy, why did we break off our engagement and why did you cut off your dad at the table tonight?"

Amy, looking for words to say, " Ty, I really need to tell you something, but I did not want to get into it yet. We are just starting to renew our feelings for one another and I would rather wait until a later time to discuss what happened. Is that ok with you?"

Ty, "Not really! Obviously it is a bad memory and unfortunately, I am having a hard time recalling any of those. Amy, I need you to be honest with me and tell me EVERYTHING!"

Amy in a very soft voice, "I will Ty, just not tonight! Let's just go have some tea in the Loft. I just want to hold you, and kiss you, and tell you how much you mean to me! " Ty, now very excited, says, "So why are you walking so slow! Let's get to it!"

Racing to the loft, up the stairs Ty and Amy embrace and begin to kiss passionately. Amy rubs the back of Ty's neck as he wraps his arms around her waist. For at least a minute, they stood in the loft entrance kissing and hugging each other when Ty said, "Amy! I love you so much. I can't imagine how we could have ever broken up."

Amy, still kissing Ty on the neck and not wanting to stop their romantic petting, says, "Ty, shut up and kiss me. I have been waiting for you to embrace me like this for so long. Let's just seize this moment. I love you too! So, so much!"

They are making their way back to the couch, where they continue to romantically kiss and pat each other for some time. Amy was holding back, with every bit of strength she could muster, her desire to make love to her husband. As they kissed she remembered how when Ty would hold and kiss her how safe she felt. Somehow Ty was able to provide Amy with a safe place from any trouble. When he would embrace her, everything was made right. When he kissed her, his warm soft lips provided a sanctuary for all the emotions and love she felt for this man. She thought back to the last night they were together and she almost gave in, but she felt that Ty was not far enough along in his recollection and did not want to side track his progress. Her heart was telling her that it was too soon and that Ty needed more understanding of their relationship. Also, She thought they needed more discussions of the rough patches in their relationship.

So pulling back while still kissing Ty on the neck and cheek, Amy says, "Ty, you know that I can hardly hold back my desire to be with you. To stay here all night like we used to make love all over this loft. But you know we can't. We need to progress your memory more so that you will remember how much we enjoyed our intimate time and all the fun we had."

Ty, not wanting this to end, "Amy, I remember, I remember everything. Please stay tonight! I don't want you to go!

Amy, understanding what is going on, says "Uh, Ty. I don't think so. You just want to get me into the sack!"

Ty, "Is it that obvious!"

Amy, "I guess I don't blame you, it has been a while. But I want it to mean something, like the first time we did make love. Do you remember?"

Ty, "If I answer yes, will you reconsider?" Amy, "See you tomorrow. I love you"

Ty, walking her to the stairs, "Amy, I fully understand and appreciate why you want to wait. It is just that you are so fine, and…."

Amy laughed, "I am leaving now, let's go for a ride in the morning!"

The next morning Amy and Ty saddle up the horses to take a ride to the old homesite and watch the horses, when out of nowhere Ghost appears badly cut up from what appeared to be a fight with another horse, or maybe another animal. Quickly, Amy and Ty work together to try to herd him into one of the round pens. After a bit of an effort, they were finally able to get him into the pen. Ty says, "Amy, let's box him in with the gate so we can examine his cuts. Also, do you think you can get a halter on him?"

Amy, "Ty, I do! Here I will move him to the side of the pen where the gate opens to and if you can get this rope around him, I will box him with the gate. Swiit, Swiit, Let's go Ghost, Let's go Ghost.

Ty:, "I got him, pull the gate!" Amy quickly pulls back the gate and Ghost is boxed into a small area where they can examine his wounds.

Ty immediately goes into action working with Amy and discussing the immediate needs of Ghost.

Ty, "Amy, remember that little colt we rescued that was hung in the trap. These wound look very similar. We should probably do the same thing we did for him."

Amy, not missing a beat, says, "Ty, I will get some ashwood I have in the barn and make up some of that soothing water that will take away the sting of the wounds, do you remember what we made to put on the wounds.

Ty, "I think we had made a sav that your mother used out of charcoal, honey, and olive oil and put it on the wounds, right?

Amy, smiling, "You are correct, let me go and make some of that up. I have all those ingredients in the office. Do you remember how we made it with that colt?

Ty, now smiling ear to ear, says, "Yes, Amy, I remember we were helping a family friend put up some tents! And we brought that for dinner and breakfast!"

Amy darts off to the office and makes up the sav, while Ty makes a batch of the soothing water. Both of them come back to Ghost where Amy holds the bucket of water for Ghost to drink, and Ty begins to put the sav on his injuries. Ty looking at Amy, different than he had since the accident. Amy says, "What?" What's that look?

Ty's emotions get the best of him and continues to look into Amy's eyes. With eyes watering in a soft voice, Ty says, "Amy, I remember that day as clear as yesterday! I remember that Jack was going to come with us, but something came up so you and I went alone. I remember how awesome it was that we were working together with that colt and everything just fell into place. I remember, I got the ring from my truck and

decided that it was time to propose if the timing was right."

Amy, now completely engrossed in her emotions, says, "Ty! Do you remember? Do you remember what happened that night?

Ty, " Amy, I remember that after having such a great day with the colt and putting up the tents, that we went for a walk along the river and I felt that it was the perfect time to propose. We stopped outside the tent where we both

witnessed a shooting star. You said make a wish! At that time, I told you I wished that I could spend the rest of my life with you, and got on one knee to propose!"

Amy, now feeling the same joy and happiness she did that night, said, "Ty, that was one of the best nights of my life. It was majestic, perfect, everything I always wanted for my engagement. I loved you so much that I couldn't speak. I even think it took me a while to say yes because it was so magnificent."

Amy put down the bucket immediately and jumped upon Ty embracing him with every muscle she had, legs wrapped around his waist, arms around his neck, lips locked to his lips, kissing passionately just like the night he proposed. Ty responded to her advance grabbing her around the waist holding her as tight as possible while they kissed passionately.

Amy slowly slips her legs to the ground and takes Ty by the hand. She says, "Ty, do remember that that night was the first time we ever made love. We wanted to for so long, but we wanted to wait until the right time before we made love for the first time. But that night, that night was the most magical night. Not only that you asked me to marry you, but when you took me into the tent and we decided to make love, you were so gentle, so loving, so caring. You wanted my first time to be perfect. And it was! You made love to me all night. We didn't even go to sleep! Wow, what a night!

Amy, turning to go to the loft holding Ty's hand, tells Ty, "I need you to be that gentle with me now. It has been a long time and I want this time to be like that night!

Ty, completely consumed in the moment, says, "Amy, it feels like we have been given this opportunity again. I remember that night like it was yesterday. It was perfect in so many ways, mostly because we decided to get married and spend the rest of our life together. Amy, I am so sorry for all that you have gone through during these past five years. I wished that things would have been different, but I know now that my feelings for you since I have been back, were based on our lives before the accident and I can't wait until all my memories come back to me."

Ty, walking behind Amy on the stairs to the loft, grabs her by her waist as she approaches the top and draws her to him. Amy without hesitation pulls Ty's shirt over his head and throws it to the ground. Ty begins to unbutton Amy's shirt when she says, "Ty, I love you so much! I want to feel every part of you! Ty, please be gentle!

Ty and Amy take off their boots and Amy immediately approaches Ty and begins to embrace his neck, kissing him on his chest as she slowly unbuttons and takes off his pants. Ty follows suit and begins to take off Amy's jeans while he is responding to her passionate maneuvers. Taking off their final bit of clothing, Ty pulls Amy into his naked

body, and she responds by wrapping her legs around his waist. Wanting to take it slow, Ty moves toward the bed and lays down still with Amy fully embraced around his body. He says in a soft voice "Amy Fleming, I want to spend the rest of our lives together. Will you marry me again?"

Amy in her soft voice says, "We were never not married. But yes, I will marry you again!"

The rest of the afternoon, through the evening, into the morning Ty and Amy spent in the loft making love, talking and laughing while they recalled all the times they spent together building their relationship.

Amy is so filled with joy she won't let Ty get up. Ty, " Amy, I am starving, let's get up and go eat something. I know your family is starting to wonder."

Amy, holding on to Ty, "I have waited a long time for this moment. So you need to cowboy up!

They both laughed as Amy gives Ty one more long kiss before they get up and go to the house.

The Truth Be Told

For the next several weeks Ty and Amy stayed together in the loft. Ty's memories of events leading up to their engagement were fast becoming known, and each day Amy and Ty began to rekindle the love they had for each other. However, negative memories and memories around his daughter were still vague and Ty and Amy were trying everything from reading from

the Life Book, to looking at pictures to try and bring back those memories of Lyndi.

However, Lyndi was not concerned that Ty's memory of her was still in the dark because she knew that her prayers would be answered and one day Ty would remember.

Amy talking about Lyndi to Ty, "You know Ty, Lyndi has really become a great horsewoman. Even at such a young age she is more advanced than I was at that age and I think she really loves the work."

Ty, "Why do you think she has picked up on this so quick? Man, when I see how she handles those horses, it reminds me of watching you in those early years!"

Amy, "Well, when you fell into the coma, Lyndi was very troubled about the situation, and to settle her down I let her work with me with the horses and tell her stories about you. Why Ty, I even had to get your jacket and put it in her bed so she could sleep at night. Another important step for her was going to church. She was asked by one of her friends to go to church and the pastor there became very involved in her story. He showed her how the power of prayer can put her in touch with God and she can ask Him to bring you back. To watch her kneel by her bed and ask God to bring you back was so touching, I began to do it with her! And guess what? Our prayers were answered. You are here!"

Ty:, "Well, I am here now and feel so bad that I just don't have any memories of her. Amy, "They will come, baby, they will come! I know it, and more importantly, Lyndi knows it!"

That afternoon, Georgie was helping exercise some of the new horses that arrived that day when Ty came up to the pen and asked, "Hey Georgie, who do these guys belong to?"

Georgie without any hesitation, "These are Prince Ahmed's horses. Aren't they just beautiful! You know Amy has become quite an accomplished trainer on the world circuit because of her work with Ahmed on his equestrian team. People send her horses from all over the world! Isn't that awesome!"

Ty, "Really, Prince Ahmed, huh."

Georgie, "Yes. And Ty, You know when you came out of your coma, Amy was finishing up a tour in Europe and Ahmed gave her the jet to fly her back to Hudson to see you! How cool was that!"

That night before supper Ty was laying down in the loft, when all of the sudden a rush of memories flooded his mind around Ahmed the Prince. He started to recall everything.

The initial meeting, the accident that left Amy temporarily blind, the trip to Europe, and as he is recalling, he remembers the last encounter he had with Ahmed. As his memory became more clear, so did the rage that burned in his soul. He remembered the kiss video where Ahmed and Amy kissed. He remembered the homecoming and how awkward Amy was to be home. How Ahmed tried to lure Amy from him with the gifts.

How he told Amy he loved her. As the memories became more clear, his anger was centered around one question. Why did Amy not tell him about Ahmed? Was this what Tim was trying to say at the dinner table? As the questions mounted, so did the anger. Ty went downstairs into the quansi hut, uncovered his old motorcycle that Jack had restored and left. Full of anger and rage he sped down the highway to town.

At the dinner table, as they were sitting down to eat, Georgie was telling everyone about her conversation with Ty at the round pen. Georgie, "Ty came up to me today while I was exercising one of Ahmed's horses and asked me about the horse. I told him this was one of Ahmed's horses that Amy trains. And, I bragged on you Amy and told him about how your work with Ahmed has made you an internationally acclaimed trainer, and that you train horses from all over the world"

Amy, "Georgie, you didn't"

Georgie, "What is wrong? Was I not supposed to say anything?"

Amy, "Georgie, I know you were not aware, but I purposely was holding off on telling Ty about my work with Ahmed until his negative memories started coming back. I wasn't sure how he would react to the fact that I am working with Ahmed, and the whole international aspect of my business."

Amy then realized that Ty had not made it from the loft to the house yet, and went out to the loft to see where he was. Not finding him in the loft, she decided to call him. Then

she heard a phone ring in the loft and went over to find it was Ty's phone ringing with Amy's picture on the screen. She then decided to look around the ranch to see if she could find him. The truck was there, so he didn't take the truck anywhere. She went back to the barn, and the horses were still there so he didn't take a horse. Then, it dawned on her to go look in the hut to see if the motorcycle was there. Sure enough, it was missing!

Hurriedly running back to the house, Amy yelling, "Grandpa, Dad, come quick Ty is gone! I have looked everywhere and it looks like he took his motorcycle and left" Grandpa, " Amy, don't worry we will find him. Tim, you head toward your place and Amy and I will head into town. If anyone sees him, call us and we will come.

The first stop in town was Maggie's. Amy, running into the diner asks, "Has anyone seen Ty? He is on his motorcycle"

Donna, who is the manager at Maggies and is very familiar with the situation answers, "Yes, he came in here about 30 minutes ago looking pretty upset. I am not sure where he went, but he left in a hurry." Thanks Donna", Amy responds, "If you see him again give me a call please..you have my number, right?" Donna shakes her head yes.

The next stop is the local bar that Ty and Caleb would frequent on occasion to play pool. Jack and Amy go into the bar and ask Ed, the bartender, if he had seen Ty. Ed, "Yep, he came in here about 30 minutes ago and he was pissed. He downed several drinks and stormed out the door!" Jack, "Do you know where he went?" Ed, "Not sure, but he was in no shape to drive." Jack, "He was on a motorcycle!"

Tim was making the turn near the crossroads when he noticed flashing lights in the road. As he got closer to the lights he realized there had been an accident and they were putting someone in the ambulance. He then looked down the road, and saw Ty's motorcycle wrapped around a telephone pole and pieces stroon all down the road. He immediately pulled his truck over and ran up to the ambulance. Unable to get to Ty, he asked the policeman, "What happened, is that Ty Borden in the ambulance?" The officer replied, "Yes, that is Mr. Borden and he has been injured pretty badly. It looks like he was moving at a high rate of speed and ran off the road and hit the telephone pole. Tim, "Where are they bringing him?" Officer, "He needs to go to Calgary! He has suffered some severe injuries."

At that time, Tim made his way to the Ambulance and asked if he could go along. The attendants asked, "Are you related to Mr. Borden?" Tim replied, "Yes, I am his

father-in-law!" Attendant, "Yes, You can come!" Tim hopes into the ambulance and they drive off toward Calgary General.

In the Ambulance Tim notices Ty is unconscious. He was laying just like in the care center motionless. His breathing is assisted by a machine. The attendants were working on what looked like a broken leg, arm, and some head injuries. Tim, "How is he doing? Is he going to make it?" The attendant, "Well, he is unconscious, but his vitals are pretty good. We will know more when we get him to the hospital?"

Tim, taking a breath, decides to call Jack and give them the news. Jack's phone rings just as he and Amy are pulling up to the flashing lights where Tim's truck is pulled over on the side of the road. Tim, "Jack, Jack, can you hear me! Ty has been in an accident and we are on the way to Calgary General. Jack, "Tim, what is his condition?" Amy, chiming in, Grandpa, look. Look at the motorcycle! It is bent around that pole. And look, there are pieces thrown all down the road. Who is that, Is that Dad? Where is he? Where is Ty", Amy now completely in tears wanting answers has to wait for Tim to update them on Ty.

Tim, "I am in the ambulance with Ty on the way to Calgary General. Ty is unconscious and they are monitoring him. I don't really know anymore than that." Jack, "we are headed that way, keep us posted if anything changes" As Jack prepares to hang up with Tim, Ty's heart monitor goes flatline. Tim, now in a full out panic, "Jack, hold on, Ty's heart has stopped beating, his heart has stopped!" Amy, listening to the conversation, begins to cry uncontrollably as Jack is trying to console her. Amy, "Grandpa, I never should have kept this from him. I made a terrible mistake that I won't be able to correct. I can't lose him again, I just can't! What will Lyndi do?" Jack gathers all his emotions together and tells Amy, "You know what Lyndi would want us to do. We need to say a prayer that God will return Ty back to us. Right now!" So Amy and Jack, right on the side of the road, kneel down beside the truck and begin to pray.

Ty, lying still on the gurney, heart monitor flatlined, is flashing back through his missing years as memories good and bad are falling into place. He is then at his wedding watching Amy come to the house on Spartan, through the candle lite pathway that was made from the barn. He was whisked inside, where he and Amy were standing at the altar reciting their vowels.

The attendants are feverishly working to get Ty back. With each beat of the chest, the monitor is still running flat. Tim, "Come on Guys, you can't let him die! He has been through so much! Please, please save him!" Then, one of the attendance, reached for the shockers and put them on his chest, injected something in his arm, then shocked him sending his body up in the air. The monitor is still flat.

Ty, now has spirited away to building the loft which he is now staying in, then, he goes to his graduation from vet school and the plaque that Amy gave him on that day. He started remembering he was a partner in Scott's practice, and all his veterinarian training was coming back to him. He remembered everything, except for his daughter Lyndi.

The attendants pushed another Eppy in Ty and shocked him again with the paddles. Then, the monitors lit up like a Christmas tree, and Ty took a big gasp of air. Awake, Ty is looking around trying to get his bearings and sees Tim sitting at the end of the ambulance. Ty, "Tim, What happened? Where am I?" Tim, relieved that Ty is awake, says, "Ty, you were in a motorcycle accident. I think you ran off the road and hit a telephone pole. " Ty, Tim, I remember, I remember everything!" At that time Ty slips back into unconsciousness but his vital signs are stable.

Tim quickly picks up the phone and calls Jack and Amy. "Guys, Ty is ok! He is back! He said he remembers, he remembers everything!" Upon hearing the news, Amy takes a huge sigh of relief then asks, "Dad, what do you mean he remembers everything?" Tim, "I am not sure honey he went back to sleep because they have sedated him in case of head trauma. I will see you guys at the hospital."

Tim is standing in the waiting room as Jack and Amy come down the hall. Amy, glad to see her Dad, asks, "What is the status of Ty?" Tim, "The doctor just came out and said that Ty has had some pretty severe breaks on his arm and leg, and has suffered from a severe concussion, but he is stable and will recover." Amy, "Dad can we see him?" Tim, "He is in ICU and they are preparing him for surgery." Amy, " Dad, I need to see him, Now!" So Amy goes to the nurse and asks if she can see her husband before he goes to surgery and the nurse grants her request. Nurse, "You can go see him but only you and only for a few minutes. We must get his leg and arm set!"

Amy is ushered into the pre-op where Ty is being prepped for surgery. Awake, Ty looks at Amy and says "I remember, I remember!" Amy, trying to get in a few words, says "Ty. I need to explain about Ahmed and my business dealing. I am so sorry that I kept that from you, I am so sorry, will you forgive me?" Ty, beginning the effects of the drugs, says, "Amy, I love you. I remember!" Then, Ty goes to sleep.

Back in the waiting room, Jack and Tim discuss the events of the night with family members over the phone. Amy comes into the room and they conclude their calls and start to ask Amy questions. "Amy, so how is he doing, did you get to talk with him, Jack asks. Amy, "Yes, but not very much. All he said was that he loved me and that he remembered. I am not sure what he remembers." Tim, "You know, when he came out

of his flatline in the ambulance he said the same thing to me! I guess we will find out what he means when he gets out of surgery.

Amy, Jack, and Tim settle in to wait out Ty's surgery as the night is turning into morning. To Be Continued….

The Truth Be Told (Part 2)

Amy is up early along with Lyndi as they prepare to go to the hospital to visit Ty. He has come out of surgery, but they have had him sedated for a few days due to the head injuries from the crash. Today, Amy was fixed on wanting to know the story behind what Ty remembered. As they were preparing to leave, Amy tells Lyndi, "Sweety, go ahead and get into the truck, I

need to go to the bathroom before we go." Amy turns to go to the bathroom and all of a sudden she becomes nauseous and breaks out in a sweat. She goes inside and grabs a ginger ale to calm her stomach, because nothing was going to stop her from visiting Ty and straightening out the situation with Ahmed. Over the past few days, Amy has been overwhelmed with emotions which she passed off as stress related to the events of the past few days.

As they arrive at the hospital, Amy and Lyndi go up to Ty's room where Ty was sitting in a chair alongside the bed. They wanted him to try and sit up for a few hours to start his PT from the accident. Lyndi immediately runs to Ty, "Daddy, I am so glad you are ok. I was worried sick about you, but prayed that God would bring you back to us, again.

And look, here you are. Isn't God great!" Ty, "Sure Lyndi, God is great and I am so sad that my foolish behavior has caused so much trouble." Amy, "Ty, this was all my fault. I should have told you about my business with Ahmed and my international training." Ty, "What I don't understand is why you would do any business with him. All he wanted was You! He wanted to take you from Me! And here you are in business with him now! I just don't understand.

Ty continues, "Amy, I got almost all of my memory back. I remember that we were engaged and that you suddenly left with him to go on this international equestrian tour in Europe. He kissed you and fell in love with you! He sent you that truck and gave you that horse. The guy wouldn't listen to you and I had to punch him out to get him to leave you alone. I remember that because of him, you and I took a break in our engagement and if it weren't for Pike River and your dad, we probably would have never got married. But we did, and I remember you riding Spartan up to the house along the road from the barn to the house which was aligned with lights. We were married in the house where we said our vows. I remember our trip to France that Jack and Lisa provided and how we built the loft into what it is now. Amy, I remember almost everything about us!"

Ty continues, "And Amy, I remember, I remember that I am a veterinarian. And that I am a partner in a clinic with Scott. And that I belong to Vets without borders and have taken some trips to save animals around the world. I remember Paint, putting Jack's horse to sleep. I remember rescuing that injured eagle where I fell down the cliff and you saved me and got me back to safety. I remember my mother and Wade and all the things they put us through. And my dad, stealing that money in the middle of the night and leaving. I remember Amy, I remember! Also, I remember the plane crash with Scott, the motorcycle accident with Jack…It is all coming together.

Then Lyndi chimes in, "Dad, do you remember anything about me?" Ty is taken back and does not want to reveal to her that his memories of her, and for that matter the pregnancy have not come back, say, "lyndi, come over here." Holding Lyndi's hand with his good hand, Ty says, "Lyndi, I am trying very hard to remember, but I just don't have those memories. However, watching you over the last few months working with your mother, and the love you have for those horses, I love you anyway without those memories. Just think when I get them back, how wonderful it will be. I have read some of the stories about you in the book and I can't wait until those become part of my memory." Lyndi, "Dad, you will remember, I know you will! I am praying for you and I know that God will not let me down!" Ty, "Then, let's let our memories take its course, ok?" Lyndi, "I love you daddy, and I am so happy that those memories have been restored.

Amy was sitting there listening to Ty recall all those memories when she becomes nauseous again and leaves to go to the restroom. Anxious to get back to her conversation with Ty, it never dawns on her that she has had this feeling now twice today. Coming out of the bathroom, she asks Lyndi if she would go and get her a ginger ale. Not thinking anything about it, Ty chimes in, "Amy, I haven't seen you drink ginger ale but once and that was when you were pregnant." Amy, glancing back at Ty says, "You remember that!" Ty:, "I guess I do! Are you pregnant?" he laughingly says. Amy, "No!"

Wanting to get back to Ahmed, Amy sits down next to Ty and says, "Ty, I owe you an explanation about Ahmed. Your recollection is correct, the last you knew was that he was trying hard to steal you from me and we hit a very rough patch in our relationship after you found out about the events surrounding Ahmed. You thought that I had changed from who you fell in love with, but realized after Pike River that I hadn't changed, and you wanted to continue with our relationship and get married". Ty breaks in, "I think we almost eloped back at Pike River but we decided against it because we wanted to be with family, and that Lou would kill us!" Amy, "You are correct! And we did

get married! Ty, when you went into your coma, we were just getting our business on its feet and we had Lyndi and she was the apple of our eye. All of that came to an end.

Our dreams, our plans, everything was turned upside down, until one day Ahmed drove up to the house. He wanted me to meet her and introduce her to me since he credited me for opening up his heart to love. He apologized for everything he had done to us and asked me to forgive him. I did and our families have become friends over the past 5 years. Matter of fact, Lyndi and Ahmed's oldest daughter are about the same age, and when they are in town, have play dates together."

Amy continues, "Ahmed offered me a contract to work with his horses and provide services here in Hudson. When the team started winning on the European Tour, Ahmed asked if I would join them during the season. I agreed to his terms. That was over 3 years ago. Now because of my reputation with Ahmed's horses, people from all over the world send me horses to train and our business has grown substantially. We have partnered with Lisa, Peter, and Lou at FairField where I stable the horses that people send me and I have a training facility over there. When you came back to Heartland, I brought a few of those horses here to train, but I did not want you to see how big the operation had become. I don't know, I just wanted to organically grow your memory through our early years and not hit you with all this at once. I am so, so sorry. I should have told you from the beginning.

Ty feeling somewhat overwhelmed asks, "Amy, when you say we have grown substantially what does that look like?" Amy, feeling a bit embarrassed to say, says "Ty, Let's get you out of the hospital and I will show you" Of course that wasn't a good enough answer so Ty presses, " No wait, how big have WE gotten" as he laughs. Amy, "Well, let's just say, because of our business, FairField has double their stall capacity and we have over 50 people working for us from all over the world. I have a training facility where we train horse trainers on setting up joint practices with veterinarians to offer complete large animal service including my mother's holistic methods and those I have added over the years of our practice. Ty, "Amy, that sounds big! Well, there is more, but you will have to see for yourself when you get out of the hospital."

The nurse comes into the room, "Guys, we need to get Mr. Borden back in bed so he can get a little rest." Amy looking into Ty's eyes holding his hand as he struggles to get onto the bed says, "Ty, I love you so much! I am so, so sorry that I was not truthful with you up front. I feel so responsible for your accident" Ty, "Amy, no worries, I wanted to go for a ride on my motorcycle anyway. It was my fault, I was going way too fast when that deer jumped out of nowhere and I ran off the road. It was kinda like when I almost hit that wolf up at Eagle Lake."

Over the next few days, Amy and Lyndi would go to the hospital and visit Ty. His recollection of their life up to and through their marriage was spot on and Ty could not wait to go back to being a veterinarian. However, each morning Amy would go through a spell of nausea in which she would have a little ginger ale to settle her stomach. She remembered Ty's comment about ginger ale and decided to go and get a pregnancy test done.

Memory Recall: Complete

Ty was coming home today from the hospital just in time for Amy and he to celebrate their 10th anniversary. Amy had planned a quiet getaway for them at the dude ranch that evening to celebrate. Amy and Lyndi got into the truck and headed to the hospital to pick up Ty. On their way Amy said to Lyndi, "Lyndi, I have a special surprise for you

in this bag but you can't tell anyone. It is a secret." So Lyndi reached in the bag and pulled out a stuffed rabbit. Lyndi, looking a bit puzzled asks, "Mom, a rabbit. Don't you think I am a little old for this?" Amy replied, "Not if you are going to play with it with your little sister or brother!" Lyndi, "Mom, You're kidding! You are going to have a baby, my very own little brother or sister!" Amy, "Yes, but you cannot tell anyone, yet! I want to surprise your dad tonight as we celebrate our anniversary." Lyndi, "He is going to be so excited! I would love to see his face when you tell him." Lyndi, talking to herself as they enter the hospital pickup area. "I'm going to be a big sister, I'm going to be a big sister" as she plays with the stuffed rabbit.

As they arrived at Heartland, Amy dropped Lyndi off at the house and headed over to the dude ranch where she had fixed up a cabin for their anniversary night. Ty was not so mobile, but was able to move around with a cane so he got out of the car and went to the firepit to sit down. Amy, putting the finishing touches on the cabin, came out and joined him on the deck. Amy, "Ty, it has been a long 10 years, heck 18 years if you include our courtship, that were filled with some amazing adventures, memories and events. Some good, some great, some not so great. But I can say after all these years that we have been together, I would not have wanted to share them with any other person but you. You complete me!

Ty responds, "Amy, from the moment I met you I knew that you were special. As a friend, you became my best friend, as my girlfriend, you became my partner, as my wife, you have become a part of my very soul. I don't know what I would do without you. I remember the several times when our relationship could have ended, either through our

stubbornness, or through events that could have ended our lives, all I could think of is you..getting back to you, however, it had to happen. I love you so much!"

He continues, "Amy, I didn't have any time to get you something for our anniversary, but I hope that my recollection of our lives together will suffice until I can get something for you. To which Amy replied. "Ty, I do have a gift for you." Amy takes out a bag under her chair and gives it to Ty. As Ty opens up the bag, he pulls out a white snuggles…he looks at Amy with tears in his eyes, "Are you sure. Are you serious? You are pregnant right? Amy, holding back the desire to jump and wrap herself around Ty, says "Ty, you called it in the hospital. The ginger ale…I don't like ginger ale but it was the only drink that I could drink when I was pregnant. So I went to the doctor and got tested. Yes, you are going to be a father again!"

At that moment the evening sky lit up with an Aurora Borealis. Ty and Amy looked up Ty remembering the last time this happened, looked at Amy and said, "Amy, last time this happened you told me I was going to be a father, and we had Lyndi. Memories started rushing into thoughts and being overwhelmed with joy, sat down to gather his energy.

Amy, realizing that Ty was beginning to recall the pregnancy, the birth, and the life with Lyndi. Became overcome with joy she grabbed on to Ty and embraced him like so many times before. Not letting go, kissing him, hugging him, holding him.

In a soft voice, Amy said, "Ty, Lyndi is going to be so happy. She has prayed for your memory to come back to her for so long. She never gave up, never. From the time you were in the care center to now, Lyndi never gave up and always knew you would regain your memory.

Ty brings Amy inside the cabin where they eat dinner and sit to relax. At that moment Ty said, "Amy, let's call Lyndi and tell her to meet us at the loft first thing in the morning. Tell her that we have a surprise for her." So they took Amy's phone and called Lyndi to set up the date. Then Amy asked, "How do we want to let her know that you got your memory back?" Ty thought for a minute, then answered, "Doesn't the Life Book have pictures and stories of your pregnancy, birth, and early childhood of Lyndi. Let's use the book, Let's take her upstairs and I will casually sit down and start going through those pictures. But this time, instead of her narrating the pictures and stories, I will do it. We can see how long it will take her to figure out that I got my memory back. What do you think? Amy,"Ty, I think that is a great idea, let's do it."

Amy stokes a great fire in the fireplace and with the wood crackling and the smell of the fire filling the room, she slowly climbs into Ty's lap and puts her arms around his neck. Looking deeply into his green eyes, she says, "Ty, we have been given a second

chance at our relationship. Should we do anything different this time around? Ty, consumed by Amy's comforting grasp looks her in the eyes and says, "I don't think we could have done this any better. Sure, we made mistakes, but all in, we are pretty lucky to be given another shot at happiness. Amy, I don't think I could love you anymore that I do at this moment. The young lady who would do anything to save a horse, has shown me that she would do anything to save me. Who could ask for anything more?"

Amy, all of the sudden jumps out of Ty's lap, gets on her knees in front of him and says in an excited voice. "Ty, we need to recite our vows. We need to invite all our friends and have another wedding party. We could set up Heartland just like it was when we got married. I think Spartan could handle another walk to the house from the barn, and we could relive that night that we got married.

Ty:, "Amy, I remember when I saw you coming from the barn on Spartan, wearing that beautiful white dress, how lucky I

was to be marrying you that night! I remember standing in front of the fireplace resighting our vows. You are right Amy, we could resight our vows and relieve the night just as it was. In front of family and friends.

Amy: Ty, remember we were locked out of the dude ranch so we went to the loft and spent our first night there as husband and

wife. How romantic it was…I married the boy in the loft!" Ty Laughing "I married the rancher's daughter!"

Amy: "Then, it's done, I will get with Lou in the morning and we will start planning!"

Amy climbed back into Ty's lap and wrapped her arms around his neck, as they are both drifting off to sleep in front of the fireplace she whispers, "Ty Borden, I love you. You are my rock!"

Back To Normal

The next morning Ty and Amy wake up early at the dude ranch. Amy: "Ty, what a night! Is this for real! Are we back to normal?"

Ty: "Yes, Amy, I think we are. Unless there is something you still need to tell me." he says with a smile.

Amy: "I am so excited to restart our lives together. I have so much to show you. I think you will be proud of the accomplishments that were made while you were gone. But let's get to the loft. Lyndi is an early riser and we want to beat her there."

They pack up their things and move over to the loft in anticipation of Lyndi's visit. It is about 6 AM and both are extremely rested from the night before. Amy: "Ty, I can't wait to see the look on Lyndi's face when she realizes that you have regained all your memory of her. She is going to be so excited."

Ty: "Let's go over the book and pick out the best pages for me to go over"

So They begin to pour over the pages they want to use. The first page image was Mongolia.

Amy "Ty, start with your trip when I was pregnant and how I almost lost you to Pneumonia when you got home, then tell her about our trip we took when you were kidnapped and dad and I had to come and find you in the desert. She knows both stories because when I was preparing the book, I told them to her."

Ty: "Great. I will start there. Wow, I remember those details like they were yesterday. How crazy were those two events."

Swiping through the pages Ty comes to a picture of Caleb and Kas holding Lyndi. Ty: "Amy, for sure when I tell her about her godparents Caleb and Kas, she will pick up on what we are doing."

Amy: "Lyndi has become quite attached to them and their son. He is a bit younger, but we get together often and let them play. Kas has been a great friend to me during these last 5 years, and I know Caleb missed you dearly. I can't wait until we get together and talk about old times together."

They can hear Lyndi downstairs in the loft feeding the horses. One of her daily chores that Jack has her do. As she finishes, she comes upstairs to the loft. Lyndi, "Hi dad, mom, so what's this surprise you wanted to show me?"

Ty: "Come see Lyndi, come sit over here and I want to show you something in the life book"

Lyndi, a bit apprehensive, goes to Ty and sits on the couch next to him. Ty, opening the book to the Mongolia pictures asks, "Lyndi do you remember the stories behind these pictures?"

Lyndi, "Only what Mom has told me."

Ty: "Well, this picture was taken when I was there with Vets without borders and when your mom was pregnant with you. We were trying to save the bears that were becoming extinct because of hunters and trappers. This picture was when I was in the hospital after I contracted Lymes disease from a tick that bit me over there. That was a very rough time for me because my body was having trouble healing from the pneumonia I contracted.

Lyndi, "That's great dad, what is the surprise?"

So Ty swiped to another page to Kaleb and Kas. Ty begins, "You know these guys right? They are your godparents and Kas and I are partners in Scott's clinic. And Caleb and I are best friends!: Ty now is looking directly into Lyndi's eyes hoping she will catch on.

Lyndi, "Great again, where is the surprise. What did you guys get me?"

Ty then begins to turn the pages and comes to a picture of Luke pushing Lyndi on the swing by the old house. Ty begins to speak, "Lyndi, do you remember Luke. He was brought here by Clint and your mom and I fostered him while his mother was away….." Then, with a huge smile and a tear in her eye, she reached up and grabbed her daddy and in a crying voice, "You remembered, You remembered! Daddy, your memory is back. Is that the surprise? This is the best present you could ever give me! I have prayed so long and hard that God would give you back to me and he has!...You are back! So when did you remember?"

Amy, now moving over to the couch to join both Ty and Lyndi, begins to tell the story about last night. Amy: "Lyndi, last night as we were sitting out by the firepit at the dude ranch, I told your dad that I had a surprise for him. Reaching under the chair, I gave him a rabbit just like the one I gave you and told him he was going to be a father again." Then, Ty chimed in, "Then, the sky lit up like it did when your mom told me about you, that I was going to be your father, then it all started coming back to me. I remembered

everything, the pregnancy, your birth, raising you up until I went into a coma! Did you see the lights last night?"

Lyndi, "I did, and I remembered mom telling me about how she told you that she was pregnant with me and thought how perfect a night it was going to be because she was going to tell you that she is pregnant again."

Ty: "So you know! We are going to have another baby. You are going to be a big sister!"

Lyndi: "Yes dad, I know. Mom surprised me with the rabbit on the way to the hospital but she swore me to secrecy!"

Ty laughing: "So many secrets!"

All three shared a huge hug and left the loft to go and tell everyone in the house the good news about Amy and the baby.

Back at the house Lou and Peter were there checking on some things related to the dude ranch, Georgie was getting ready to head back to Europe to meet up with Quinn, and Tim and Shane were there working on some equipment they needed that day for a hay run. Jack and Lisa were inside discussing their trip back to France since Ty and Amy seemed to have control of things surrounding his accident.

On their way in, Amy calls out to Shane, "Shane, get dad and you guys come into the house. We have some news to tell you"

Shane, "Ok, Dad Amy wants us to go into the house!"

Making their way in they run into Georgie who is putting some final things together in the house. "Georgie, come into the living room, We have some news we want to share with you.

Lisa and Jack were already sitting in the living room when the others gathered around the fireplace. Ty and Amy are positioned in front of the fireplace and Lyndi is sitting on the stoop. Ty begins, "Guys I first want to tell you that all my memory has come back. Amy, Lyndi and I have been going through the Life book and I remember everything!" Then, without any hesitation, Lyndi burst in. "Mom is pregnant, I am going to be a big sister!"

Amy: "Lyndi !"

Lyndi, "Sorry mom, I could help it. I am so excited to have my family back. I wanted everyone to know!"

Amy: "Well, folks, it's true! Sort of wanted to give Ty's news a bit more coverage, but there you have it. We are back to normal! And we are adding another member to the family."

Ty is reaching over to Amy and pulling her close as Lyndi is hanging on to her dad's waist. Jack says, "Well, I am so happy for you guys! I just knew that with the effort Lyndi put into praying for your memory to come back, and praying that you would wake up would pay off. You know Ty, Amy and I saw how successful her prayer was, Amy and I prayed at your accident site that you would be ok. And here you are! God Bless you my son!

Tim smiling: "Ty, do you think we can dial down the drama from here out! I don't think I can take another ambulance ride like we had or trip to Mongolia!

Ty: "I will try, I will try."

Lou and Peter come over to them and Lou hugging Amy says, "I know it has been a long time but Amy you handle the situation so well. I am so happy for you! I'm so happy. So I guess you can get back to work now that everything's out in the open?

Amy, "Yes, Lou, and I want to get Ty brought into the operation as quickly as possible. Maybe when he feels up to it, he can come over and Peter can show him the operation."

Peter: "That would be great!" Ty, the balls in your court. When you are ready, I will be."

Lisa: "Maybe we should arrange another trip for you guys to France for a short vacation?"

Ty: "I think I want to settle in here before I make any travel arrangements. A lot has happened over the past 5 years that I need catching up on! And I will not be traveling during this pregnancy at all!"

Georgie: "Guys, I am so happy for you all and am sorry that I started all the events that led up to your accident.

Ty: "Georgie, no ones to blame here. There was a deer on the highway that I tried to avoid and ran into the pole. It had nothing to do with anything you said."

Over the next few months Ty recovers from his injuries and Scott and Kas have been giving him information to update his licenses to practice medicine. A lot has changed over the 5 years and there is a lot of catching up to do in order to pass the license board test. Amy has settled back into her business, but has informed Ahmed that she is not

going to go with them this year for the trials, but she has someone who she has been training that should be able to pick up her duties.

Ty is trying to decide his next steps and over dinner tells Amy, "Amy, I am trying to figure out my place here. On one hand I have this partnership in Scott's clinic that I can pursue, or I can become the inhouse vet for Fair Field. What do you think I should do?" Amy: "Ty, why can't you do both." Why not work out a contract arrangement with Fair Field for your clinic to handle all the veterinarian services that we need, then you can have the best of both worlds."

Ty: " You don't think that would be a conflict of interest?"

Amy laughing: "Ty, we are partners in both organizations so I think it's more like keeping it in the family"

Ty: "I guess you are right. Anyway, I need to get relicensed as a vet for me to provide any services at all, let alone the clinic and FairField."

Amy: "I also had another idea that I think you might be interested in. You know that one of your passions is to rescue damaged animals. What if we used some of Heartland's property to build a sanctuary like Bob and you had years ago. We already are providing for the wildies, why not expand that operation. I am sure with my contacts I can get plenty of financial resources to back the reserve."

Ty: "Now that is an interesting proposition!" You think that is doable? Amy: "Don't see why not!"

Ty: "So what you are saying is I have options! Did I tell you how much I love you!" Amy: "Yes, but you can say it again"

Ty: " I love you Amy Borden!"

Ty passed his board certification test easily and was now licensed to practice medicine. His first meeting is with Scott to discuss the future of his partnership with the clinic.

Ty: Scott, I want to thank you for all your support during these last 5 years. Holding my partnership, supporting Amy and Lyndi, you went way beyond. I know it has had to be difficult for you with the growth I see here at the clinic. I am pretty sure you have gotten pressure to open up ownership from the new doctors I see, right?"

Scott, "Let's just say I am glad that you are back, and am very glad to see you 100% ready to handle your veterinarian duties."

Ty, "So that brings me to what I wanted to discuss. Amy has floated the idea that we could contract our clinic to Fair Field and handle their veterinarian services exclusively as well as the services that we already do for Amy and her operation. We could meet with Peter and negotiate a contract that would benefit both of us. What do you think?" Scott, "Would you handle the extra work, or handle the work exclusively?"

Ty, "That is what I am thinking. Then maybe we can cut up my ownership in the clinic for some of the new doctors here?"

Scott, "I think that would be great, when can we set something up?

Ty, "I will get with Peter and Lou today and make the arrangements. Also, I really appreciate you and Kas helping get my license renewed. I was really concerned about how much I would remember. Looks like I didn't miss a thing!"

Ty heads off to FairField to meet with Amy, Lou, and Peter to discuss the business arrangement he discussed with Scott. As he was pulling into the parking lot, he noticed Amy, Amed, and his new wife standing by the office doors. Ty had not seen Amed since their last encounter and was a bit nervous about seeing him now. As he gets out of the truck, Amy yells, "Ty come here. I want you to meet Ahmed's wife Natacia!"

Ty without any hesitation comes over and holds out his hand to shake her hand.

Ty, "Natacia, it is great to finally meet you. Amy has told me so much about you guys. I am very glad to finally put a face to a name." Then he looks at Amed, and Amed ducks a bit, laughing, "The last time I saw you it was less than great circumstances, and I think you butted me in the head!" Ty, laughing with him, said, "I think you are right! But look who got the girl!"

Amy chimes in, "Ty! And by the way, that girl is going to have another baby!"

Amed, "No Amy, Ty is right! You two were made for each other and what I did was wrong! However, because of that time, I was able to open up to love which led me to my beautiful wife, Natacia. So Thank you both! And congratulations on your new addition to the family!"

Ty:, "So what do we owe the pleasure?"

Amy: " Amed wants us to take over his Hill Hearst operation here in Hudson!" I was telling him about your proposed contract with Fair Field for Vet services, and my training services, which he already uses and he was intrigued enough to entertain the idea!" Amed, "I understand Ty you have regained your licenses to practice and you are already affiliated with a clinic here in town, so most of the work required to bring Vet services to Hill Hearst are in place, right?

Ty, "You are correct."

Amed, "Well, Amy, Ty, I think we can make a decision today if we can come to terms on the contract dollars!"

Amy, "Great, Peter and Lou handle our business management, I will put them in touch with your business manager to make the arrangements."

Amed, "That sounds great. Ty, again, I am very sorry about our first encounter. I hope we can put that behind us and move forward with a new relationship."

Ty, "That will not be a problem!"

Amed and Natacia head toward their car while Amy and Ty go inside the office. Ty is a little off balance with the speed of which the business is being handled and says to Amy, "I am a bit overwhelmed to say the least!"

Amy, "Ty don't worry about the details. Let Lou and Peter handle that. You and I just need to handle the business of working with the horses.

Ty, "That does make me feel a lot better. Amy, I spoke with Scott and he is fine with setting up a contract for services, as long as I do the work. I came here to get with Lou and Peter to work up that agreement. Are they here?"

Amy, "Yes, but let's go get a sandwich and talk about another opportunity that I think we should consider. "

Amy and Ty retreat to the kitchen located inside FairField and order sandwiches from the cooks. FairField now has over 75 employees handling both the businesses, Amy and Ty's company and Lisa's horse breeding business. So they have an inhouse kitchen that feeds the employees and staff.

Amy, "Ty, remember a while back we talked about possibly starting a rescue center for troubled animals, much like Bob had years ago?" Well, I have been talking with Grandpa and several of my clients and we think we could carve out some space on our land at Heartland and put the center there! What do you think?"

Ty, "Wow! That is a great idea if we can do it."

Amy, "I think we can, and Grandpa is on board with it as well."

Ty, "A lot has happened today. Let me think about how to make that happen and we can talk about it later."

Amy, putting a kiss on Ty's Check, "Perfect. I knew you would like that!" I have to meet with a client, see you later at Heartland."

Amy finishes up her sandwich and goes out the door leaving Ty sitting at the table. Taking a few minutes to let all this settle in, he finishes his sandwich and leaves to go meet with Lou and Peter.

Another Generation

It has been 5 wonderful months since the news of Ty and Amy's pregnancy was announced. Ty secured two veterinarian service contracts with Hill Hearst and Fair Field that has kept him pretty busy. They decided to hold off on the sanctuary until they had the baby and got past the first year. Amy has been working hard getting things setup so when she has the baby she

will be able to take off for about 4 months. Lyndi has been very helpful with chores around Heartland and helping Amy get settled. Jack and Lisa have been in France and are expected home in 5 days for the baby shower. Georgie and Quinn plan to be back in Hudson as well because the Olympic trials are taking a break over the summer. And the rest of the local family is going about their business as usual.

Ty, rushing out the door, "Amy is there anything I can get you. I am running into town to pick up a few things I need at the clinic."

Amy, "Don't forget, we have an appointment with the doctor today. We are going to do our first sonogram to check out the baby. Are you sure you don't want to know the sex?"

Ty, "I am sure!"

That afternoon Ty goes to Fair Field and picks up Amy to go to their appointment. Both are excited because they are going to see the baby for the first time.

Amy, "Ty, you know these new sonagram machines, you can really make out how the baby will look and see the sex. Are you sure you don't want to know?"

Ty, "Well, it is obvious that you want to know, so I guess it is your call!"

Amy as she is reaching over to kiss Ty on the neck, "No, Ty, if you don't want to know, we won't look. But the doctor said we are going to have to look away because of the clarity. Maybe if I peek, I will know, and then I won't tell you!"

Ty , "I don't think so…We either both know or we both don't know!"

As they pull into the doctor's office, they get out of the truck and head inside. The nurse checks Amy in and gets her readied on the table for the sonogram. Dr. Jones enters, she is the new OB doctor in town and is very charming and funny. She picks at Ty and Amy about wanting to know the sex of the baby as she is preparing the machine.

Dr. Jones, "Guys, when you see how clear these pictures are, you might accidently see the sex based on how the baby is positioned. Boy, Amy, you sure have grown since our last visit. Maybe you have two in there! "

Amy laughed, "Please, don't even joke about that. I don't know what I would do if there are two."

Ty also, laughing, "I wouldn't mind two. Heck, I would take three for that matter!" Amy, "Easy for you to say, I am the one who has to deliver them!"

The large 70 inch monitor is turned on and Dr. Jones begins working the wand around Amy's stomach. As she is positioning the wand, she says "Oh My! Guys look at what we have here! Do you see what I see?"

There,as big as life, are two babies in Amy's womb! Ty and Amy are speechless as they look at the monitor. A few seconds go by and as she is moving the wand around, the babies are in a position where they can see both of the babies sex.

Amy, "Oh my god, Oh my god, Ty there are two babies. What are we going to do with two babies at once, Oh my god!"

Ty excitedly said "Amy, look both are boys! The next Borden generation has begun! I didn't tell you anything, but I really wanted a boy to carry on my name! Wow! I got two" Dr. Jones, "Twenty Toes and Twenty Fingers, look they look so perfect!"

Amy, completely shocked at what she sees is speechless, Ty, as loving as he can, grabs Amy's hand and kisses her on the forehead. "Amy, I love you so much. You have made my life complete with these two guys. I love you!"

Amy now with tears in her eyes, looking back and forth between Ty and Dr. Jones, "I don't know if I am overwhelmed to see two babies or if I am overwhelmed because I see two babies! Oh my god, Ty what are we going to do!"

Ty, again holding tight to Amy's hand, "Amy, it is going to be fine, everything is going to be fine..just you wait!

Laughing Ty says, "Do you think I can go to Mongolia!" Amy, "Not on your life, you are stuck here with me, mister!"

Dr. Jones put away the machine. Amy and Ty are up in the room when She gives them several pictures of the babies. Here you might need these to show everyone. Ty and Amy leave the doctors office and head to Heartland. In shock, Amy is speechless as Ty is trying to comfort her about the news of the twins.

Ty, "Amy, we are going to have twins. Twin boys! Do you know what that means! Lyndi is going to have not one little brother but two! What is she going to think? How should we tell her?"

Amy, still speechless, is processing all these questions, then grabs Ty by the hand, "Ty, I love you so much! I am so glad God chose you for me! I know I am without words, but inside I am so excited to be able to give you the boy that you wanted..Heck, I am giving you two boys!

Ty, "Amy, I love you too!

Amy, "I think to tell Lyndi, we should take two rabbits and put them in a basket. Under the rabbits we will have the sonogram pictures. Let's see if she can figure it out."

Ty, "That sounds like a great idea. Let's stop and get those items now!"

After a brief stop at the drugstore, Amy and Ty head back to Heartland to meet up with Lyndi. As they pull into the driveway, Lyndi is working with a horse in the round pen and waves. Ty pulls the truck to a stop as Amy is working up the basket.

Ty, "Lyndi, can you come here for a minute. We have something to show you?" Lyndi, "Sure dad, be there in a minute"

Lyndi puts down the lunge rope and runs to the truck where Amy is getting out. As they are walking to the house, Lyndi asks, "Mom what's in the basket?"

Amy, going inside the house, "We have a surprise for you and it is in this basket"

Amy gives Lyndi the basket with the two rabbits. Puzzled, Lyndi said, "Mom, I don't get it. Last time you gave me rabbits you told me you were pregnant. What gives?

Saying nothing Amy looks Lyndi in the eyes. Ty, too, is quietly watching Lyndi's reaction to the surprise. Then, Lyndi picks up one of the rabbits and sees the sonogram. "Mom, Dad is this for real, there are two babies in here"

Ty, "Lyndi, you are going to be a big sister to two brothers. What do you think about that?"

Lyndi dancing around so excited says, "Two brothers, two little brothers. Wow, how cool is that! Mom?

Amy, "Lyndi, I can't believe it either this changes a lot of the plans we were making." Lyndi, "No worries, I will help you!"

As the family sits down for supper all of the members are there. Georgie and Quinn, Jack and Lisa, Tim and his family, Peter and Lou and their family, and Ty, Amy, and Lyndi. Ty holds up his glass to make a toast and says "Guys, Amy and I have an announcement to make. We visited the doctor today to find out about the baby and" Without hesitation, Lyndi blurted out, "We are going to have twins, two boys, can you believe it?" Ty, shaking his head at Lyndi with a smile, says, "Well, yes, we are going to have two boys to add to our family!"

Everyone at the table gets up to hug Amy, Ty, and Lyndi and congratulate them on the news when Jack stands up and says, "Ty, Amy I am so proud of you guys you just don't know! Ty, you know that you are like a son to me and I welcomed you into the family long ago. Through thick and thin we have made it to this point and I am so proud, so proud! I want you to know that me and Lisa will be here to help you guys through the pregnancy and birth because it probably will be a chore to bring twins into this world.

Also, Ty, You and I have talked about your legacy. Today, I think you can be assured that the Borden name will carry on and Heartland and its traditions will continue on for generations to come!

After dinner, Ty and Amy take their coffee outside. Standing on the porch, Amy looks at Ty and says, "Ty, no matter where our business takes us, I want to make sure that we never leave this place. It means so much to me. All the memories, this view, this air. I want our kids to grow up on this ranch. I want our kids to learn to love Heartland like we do! No matter what happens Ty, I want us to make that commitment to each other.

Ok?"

Ty, putting his arm around Amy says, "Amy, I promise! This will always be home!"
