Gabriel was tired. The bags under his eyes became a more permanent feature on his face everyday. The glass tomb that contained Emilie in front of him. He could see his reflection in the glass, seeing the sorry state he was in. He pressed his hand on the glass, running his thumb along it slowly.
"Nooroo, it has been an exhausting year. Expanding my power with your Miraculous has taken up much of my time. Ladybug and Cat Noir must be having a good time with the sparse amount of Akumas I have been sending out. As they say though, quality over quantity."
Gabriel smiled to himself, knowing that his Akumas have become much deadlier the more his power grows. His Miraculous having evolved to amplify the power of an Akuma the stronger their negative emotion. It would be instrumental to bring down the superhero duo.
"Master, you really need your rest. You have not slept properly in all of that time. I worry about your health!" Nooroo said as his tiny eyes pleaded to him.
Gabriel looked at the Kwami, extending his hand out and letting the creature rest on it. He rubbed its small head, making Nooroo close his eyes and nuzzle into the hand of his holder. "There is no need for concern. I have been practising and experimenting with my powers enough to finally put them to the test." He began walking away from the capsules so he carried the creature, the lights turning off as he walked across the metal bridge and into his lair.
Nathalie was waiting for him, Duusu flying around her head energetically. Her peacock tail rubbed past the woman's nose which sparked a chuckle. Gabriel smiled at this action, now to see Nathalie let her emotional wall when around the blue Kwami. Nathalie looked over at Gabriel as he entered the room, straightening her back out as he approached her.
"Hey, Hawkman! What are we gonna do today! Gonna finally fulfil the dream of being the happiest being on the planet Earth!" Duusu yelled out as she floated up to his face. The Kwami had a gigantic smile as she stared into the eyes of the famous designer. Gabriel adjusted his glasses with his middle finger before shaking his head.
"No, today I am doing this alone. Mayura will be put on the sidelines and have to watch. It is much too dangerous for you to use that Miraculous."
"But sir! I do not want you to do this alone. I told you from the very beginning that I would be by your side from the very beginning. I am not about to turn and run because I might get sick!" Nathalie said with a huff. Her tone was sharp with a hint of frustration to it.
"The last time you used it you had to be in bed for nearly a month! I won't have it. I am not losing another person close to me." Gabriel demanded as he removed the small red fabric covering his Miraculous. "I will not have this discussion again."
"Sir I…..I understand. I won't interfere today." There was some sadness in her voice as he spoke. She looked at him, a spark of happiness within her eyes was present however. She gave a small bow before departing.
"Master, how long do you think you can keep this up?" The Kwami looked up at Gabriel, looking deep into his eyes and seeing the exhaustion within them. "You are still human. Being transformed might give you unlimited stamina but you can't be transformed all the time."
"Your concern is appreciated Nooroo, but unnecessary. The day I vowed to get my wish was the day I vowed to never rest. Even if I bedridden I will not stop."
Gabriel stopped in the chamber, looking at the butterflies that littered the ground. He took a deep breath as Nooroo floated in front of him.
"I just don't want to see you die….."
Gabriel looked at the Kwami and sighed, adjusting his glasses as he looked out the window. "Nooroo your kind nature is under-appreciated in this world. This world could use more of this kindness." His features softened a bit as he closed his eyes.
"Nooroo, dark wings rise!" Nooroo flew into the brooch, powering the Miraculous. He held onto his cane, clutching it tight as he opened his eyes.
"Today is the day Ladybug. I will send you an Akuma you could never hope to beat!"
With his hand outstretched a butterfly flew into his hand. The small creature was innocent, and as pure as it could be. It's innocent nature made it the perfect candidate for the emotional energy stored within. Covering the Akuma with his hand he began channeling energy into the creature. He removed his hand and the butterfly had turned green. He lifted his hand and the creature began to fly out the window.
"Fly away my little Akuma. And find Stoneheart!"
Nathalie stepped out of the elevator as it reached the main office and into the hallway. She released a breath that she held since she left the lair, her chest feeling slightly heavy.
"What's wrong Stripe? Are you feeling blue?" Duusu asked as she laid on top of her head, her tail swishing against Nathalie's hair.
"I worry for Gabriel. He has been putting too much pressure on himself lately. When he isn't overworking himself at the office he over works himself down there." Nathalie entered the lounge room, sitting down in an armchair. She grabbed her hair tie and let her hair fall to her neck, raking her fingers through it.
"Well, there is always something you can do to cheer him up!" Duusu exclaimed as she sat on the armrest. "Go try and get red bug girl again!"
"You know what happened last time that I tried that. I was almost captured. Though that was a long time ago, I still can't get over how much I failed him." She clenched both of her fists as she let out a few coughs.
Nathalie looked at her hand and saw a few spots of blood. Her eyes went wide at the sight and quickly wiped it away. That had never happened before to her. Was she….
"Maybe he just needs a break then. Doesn't he have like six homes he can stay in to do….whatever humans do in their other homes?"
"Yes. He does own several properties, but the last time he took a vacation he brought along Adrien." Nathalie smiled at the memory, seeing the young man's face beam with excitement as they stayed a week in London. "It was only a few months ago and he needed a lot of convincing to even go."
"Then I will make sure he gets the vacation that he so desperately needs then." A mysterious voice called from behind Nathalie.
Nathalie turned around quickly, seeing only a black object swing towards her face. She flew back from her chair and rolled along the ground. The chair falling forward from her momentum as a figure clad in black stepped past it. Nathalie covered her nose, feeling the blood drip from it. Her glasses were cracked, damaged beyond repair. Her only concern at this moment was finding out who this person was, beating them, and protecting Gabriel. She stood up, dusting herself off as she gazed at the person.
Before Nathalie could utter a word the intruder dashed toward the woman, their palm thrusted against Nathalie's abdomen. The woman let out a gasp while being buckled forward as she grabbed the assailant's arm. A growl escaped her lips as she brought her knee under their chin, causing them to take a few steps back.
"Do not take me for an easy opponent ." Nathalie spit a bit of blood out as she tossed away her glasses. Her voice grew cold and sharp. "You will be very disappointed."
The green butterfly flapped its wings as it made its way to their destination. Finding the hulking teen in his bedroom with a pair of headphones on as he was finishing up some last minute homework. Because of the headphones he would not hear the butterfly as it merged with him. The boy gasped as suddenly he was in a very dark room, nothing around but a singular light above him.
"Hello Stoneheart. It has been too long since I have seen you." A deep voice crept from the shadows. Hawk Moth was revealed by a second light with a devilish grin on his face.
Ivan just looked at the man and frowned, charging forward with his fist drawn. He jumped in the air screaming as he brought his fist down. He was flawlessly swatted away. Nothing but a leaf in the wind to him.
"What do you want from me?" Ivan yelled as she stood back up. His face contorted with anger.
"I need nothing from you, yourself child. But what you have in you."
Hawk Moth thrusted his hand forward, a green energy surrounding his hand. Ivan was suddenly lifted off the ground, crying out in pain as he closed his eyes. His body began to glow a bright green. He let out a blood curdling scream as he fell to the ground.
Ivan lifted himself off the ground as rubbed his head. He looked up and let out a gasp at what he saw. He saw Stoneheart hovering above the ground as still as a rock. He suddenly began to shrink down and get absorbed by Hawk Moth into his hand. The villain began laughing as he looked at the teenager, waving his staff as he fell unconscious.
The butterfly flew out of the headphones, leaving a sleeping Ivan at his desk. It flew out the window, making its way back to its master.
Hawk Moth held out his hand letting the butterfly land in his palm. Its green color had become a neon version. He chuckled to himself as his smile grew wide.
"I have succeeded! The latent energy of each Akuma does reside in the victims. They may never be able to become that Akuma again once extracted but I will be able to make my next Akuma that much stronger with their power! How much of that power I will need to decide. But my first Akuma was a perfect experiment. Complete invincibility. Stronger with each hit." His head perked up a bit as he sensed the negative emotions of someone nearby. "And I have the perfect candidate."
Cameron sat atop his bed while playing with his crystal pendant necklace. The room was quiet as the other kids were outside playing. Cameron was just waiting to see if he could go to an actual home. The orphanage was nice, but he was tired of seeing other kids being adopted before him. He had been there the longest. 15 years old and can't find a home. It frustrated him to no end.
He looked out the window, closing his eyes as he held onto his sleeves. He could hear them talk in the other room. Another candidate for him. The only reason as to why he was in this room. The anticipation killed him. How many times had he been in this position, only to be met with utter disappointment?
He wiped the growing tears that formed around his eyes. He didn't know if he could do this anymore. Go another day without finding a home. Cherise was a wonderful caretaker, but he never saw her as his mother. Never wanting to give her that title just in case she left him behind.
The door opened to the room, Cherise walking in. Her wavy red hair bounced as she held a stack of paper in her hands. Behind her were a couple, a man who didn't look older than 40 and a woman who was about the same age. They looked nice enough, but their facial expressions told a different story.
"Cameron…I do have some news for you. They will not be able to adopt you today. But in the plus side-"
Cherise wasn't able to finish her sentence before Cameron bolted past them. She had cried out to him, but he would not listen. He ran out the front door and just kept running. The tears that stung his eyes made it hard to see. He tripped over his own foot as he fell down in an alleyway. He lifted himself off the ground. His hands clenched into fists on the concrete as he sobbed.
"I hate this….I hate everything!" The tears began rolling down his face as he yelled out. He rested his head on his fists, sobbing into his forearms. His sobbing stopped when he felt a presence near him, then his anger and sadness amplified. His emotions becoming consumed by those two feelings as a purple butterfly outline appeared in front of him.
"Prism, I am Hawk Moth. The sadness of rejection and loneliness has hardened your heart. People cannot see you for the gem you truly are. I will give you the strength to show them and capture your foes in gems. All I need from you are Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses." The sound of his voice, the tone and charisma from it twisted his thoughts. This was the right course of action.
"Of course Hawk Moth. They will see me for what I am!"
Cameron stood up as his chest began turning to crystal. His entire body became a light lavender colored crystal. He looked down at his hand, feeling the smoothness of his palm before stepping out of the alley.
Prism advanced down the street. His footsteps were heavy as he left imprints on the road. Cars swerved around him, not wanting to hit this creature. The sun reflected its light off him, causing a man to be blinded while driving. Prism looked at the car, letting out a raspy yell as he hit the bumper of the barreling towards him. The vehicle flew in the air, landing on its roof and cracking its windshield.
"LADYBUG AND CAT NOIR! SHOW YOURSELVES!" Prism yelled, his voice scratchy with a slight echo to it. His fists clenched as he looked around.
"Since they cannot accompany you right now, how about I suffice?" A young female spok from behind the Akuma.
Prism turned to see the young woman behind him. She was tall, haircut to her chin with sharp eyes. Her school uniform's skirt blowing with the slight breeze.
"Who are you?" He asked as he stood taller, matching her in height.
"Just a concerned citizen who wants to delay a monster right now." She slid her foot behind her, taking a defensive stance. It left many openings, all false however to the trained eye.
Prism snarled a bit and threw a right hook to the girl. She swiftly dodged to the left, her eyes never leaving him. Each subsequent punch was dodged, which irritated the Akuma more and more. He saw the girl smirk and take a step back while pointing to the left. Prism turned his attention there and saw a distracted driver on his phone. The car hit the crystal being straight on, sending them rolling down the street as the car was brought to a complete stop.
Prism groaned and rose to his feet while growling. His body began to harden, his arms in legs becoming larger and looking less like jeans. His arms became larger and his fingers morphed into four. His shoulders became broader as his head formed into a trapezoid-esque shape. He was well over 7 feet now and towered above the girl by a foot.
"Oh….I was not expecting this." Her words were filled with surprise, but kept a sense of calm to them.
Prism raised his arm to slam his fist onto the woman's head. Before he could make contact his arm was bound by a string, keeping him from moving it. His fist was slammed into his face, causing him to stumble back a few steps.
"It seems I found the perfect gem for your engagement ring m'lady." Cat Noir said from the rooftops with his arms crossed.
"You know how picky a girl I can be chaton. Don't think this cheap stone is gonna impress me." Ladybug retorted as she reeled back her yo-yo, securing it to her waist.
Ladybug leaped off the roof, throwing her yo-yo around Kagami's waist. She pulled the girl towards her and away from the Akuma.
Cat grabbed his staff as he jumped off the building. He twirled it in the air and slammed it down on the Akuma. The blow was blocked by his hardened forearm and showed no sign of damage.
"Looks like we got our work cut out for us." Cat quipped as he had a smile on his face.
