One of the things that Kenma would say he was good at was his ability to read people. Looking at his classmates, he could easily tell what kind of person they were.
Akitori Hojo, he was the popular type. He had good grades and was friendly to others. He was the type that couldn't say no if someone asked him for help.
Kagome Higurashi, his first thoughts were, 'we're nothing alike.' Why? Higurashi-san was the type to be energized whenever she was surrounded by others. She always wore a grin on her face while she merrily talked with her friends no matter how mundane their conversations were. She was the very definition of an extrovert.
It was always easy to spot where the girl was during break times. She was always surrounded by her group of girl friends. A glittering sparkly light enveloped their group. Even more so, when Hojo-san would enter into their group. They were like two shoujo characters. The boy would only look at Higurashi-san, while ever so often his cheeks would be dusted red. It was obvious he liked her, but she remained oblivious to his advances. Her friends however, looked pleased between the interactions between the two.
Yes, Kagome Higurashi was like any other average middle school girl. She was, as Kuroo would have said, enjoying the joys of her youth.
They really were different, so he never really went out of his way to speak to her. She was just a classmate.
After a while, Kagome Higurashi began to go to school less and reason, in his opinion, was rather strange. Whenever the girl was absent their teacher would say the same thing, "Higurashi's sick". However prior to her constant sick affliction, she hadn't shown any signs that her health was deteriorating.
It truly was strange, indeed.
"Ke-"
What was even more peculiar were the illnesses the girl contracted: rheumatism and plantar wart were the few Higurashi-san currently had. Yes, illnesses meaning multiple. Based on the girl's health before, it was very hard to believe the girl was sickly enough to get another illness as soon as the first one was recovered.
"Ken-"
But really, what was happening to Kagome Higurashi?
"Oi, KENMA!" The volume of Kuroo's shout brought him back to his surroundings.
Ah, he was at volleyball practice due to Kuroo's encouragement to join.
His friend looked at him worriedly, as if saying, 'what's wrong?'
"It's nothing." From the older male's unrelenting gaze, he spoke up, "It's really nothing. Nothing at all." The last bit he repeated to himself, as if to make himself believe it.
Kagome Higurashi, she wasn't anything to him, but only a classmate.
...They hadn't even talked before.
It really was absurd of him to be thinking about her.
"Kenma, time for laps!"
Playing volleyball was pretty entertaining, but the conditioning training it required made him sometimes think whether or not if it was worth it. Getting lost into his thoughts helped pass the time.
Currently, Kagome Higurashi was a topic that his mind kept trailing to.
She really was mysterious.
