I slowly open my eyes, and the bright light of the sun hurts my eyes. Being inside a dark room for a long period of time really effected my sight. After a few seconds, my eyes already adjusted with the lighting and I took a better look of my surroundings.
I am standing at a sidewalk. I look around and I can say for sure I've arrived at my destination. The medieval theme of the surrounding really give the RPG vibes. I can see a few stalls with the customers and shopkeeper bargaining prices. I listen closely to the conversation, and I can understand them. That's good, considering Eris warning about the overloaded brain and stuffs.
I begin to walk aimlessly around the town, trying to figure out what should I do first. Some town peoples give a weird look at me, maybe since I am a new face in the town.
'Hmmm…… What should I do first? Usually in games, there's a person who greets me and tell me what to do. But I doubt that will be the case here. This is still a world, where having levels, skills and magic is normal. Maybe I should ask some locals-'
"HELP! STOP THE THEIF!"
A sudden yell pull me out from my thoughts. I look back, and say a man holding a pouch, running through the busy street while an older man, the one who yelled, chasing him from behind, trying to move between peoples.
It doesn't take too long for me to figure out what happened. I steady my stance, ready for the thief.
"Out of my way!"
Oh shut up….
As the thief reaches me, I delivered a roundhouse kick on his side, knocking him into a nearby fruit cart.
The townfolks froze from the sudden commotion. The old man also stop his running as he saw the thief was knocked out at the card.
I took a deep breath and release my stance, returning to a relaxing posture.
"What's happening here?" a voice asked. I turned around and I saw two men, most likely town guard by the way they're dressing.
Before I could explain the situation to the guards, the old man approaches us first. "This young man have stopped the thief! He stole my pouch!" the old man said, pointing at the unconscious thief at the fruit cart. The guards looked at the cart and he indeed saw a fainted man there.
"Who's cart is that?" the other guard asked. A bald man raise his hand. "It's mine!" "Are you going to submit any complains?" the guard ask. I become stiffed. 'Shit! I should have thought about the cart before doing that.'
At my relief, the man shook his head. "Nah… The fruits in the cart were the rejected and low quality fruits. They're going to be use as livestock foods anyway." He said.
The two guards looked at each other, and nodded. "Alright young man. You're safe for now. Thanks for your cooperation on stopping the thief. We'll take it from here." The first guard said.
The second guard took the unconscious thief away while the first guard talk to the old man and return his pouch. I was about to leave when the old man called on me.
"Wait boy!" he approach me with a smile. I return the smile while asking. "Yes? Can I help you sir?"
"Oh, you already did boy. You already did. And I can't express how grateful I'm! Thank you so much!" he took my hand and shake it. I scratches my neck, a habit I had when I'm nervous.
"Ehehehehe… No need to thank me sir. I'm just do what every decent man will do. Just doing my part." I said. The man still didn't let go my hand, and he had a pretty strong grip for an old man.
"No no no no… You didn't understand how much this means for me! I just finished a trade with a travelling merchant and I finally have enough money to finish my debts! If you didn't help me, maybe I'll struggle with my debts until the rest of my life. So thank you so much boy! Wish there's anything I can do to repay your kindness!" the man explained. He also finally let go of my hand.
I thought for a minute before I remember my thoughts before the whole fiasco happened.
"Well… You see, I'm a newcomer to this town. I traveled from a distant land with the hope of becoming an adventurer. But I didn't know where to start. Can you help me?" I asked.
The old man seems a little bit surprised but then startled me when he began to laugh.
"Hahahaha! No wonder you have a weird set of clothes! I thought you're just having a weird sense of fashion."
I began to inspect my clothing and I completely forgot that I'm still in my world clothing. A red-black flannel shirt over a black tank top, with a matching black khakis and brown boots. No wonder the townfolk gave me a weird glance everywhere I go.
The old man finally stopped laughing and said. "But I love passionate young people! To be an adventurer, first you need to go the adventurers guild. Exit this alleyway, you'll found yourself at the main road. Walk straight to the town square and you'll see a huge building near a watch tower." He explained.
So there's a guild huh? Should have thought of that.
"Thank you sir. Have a nice day. And good luck with your business." I said, slightly bowing my head.
"Of course. Anything for my savior. Oh, and one more thing! After you've finished registering yourself as an adventurer, come to my shop. You'll need a better gear if you want to be an adventurer." He offered. I kindly accept the offer and bid him farewell.
After walking for a while, following the man's instructions, I arrived at a huge building. Like, a really huge one, the size almost ten times bigger than my house!
I walked into the building, and the inside are what I expected. There's a lot of tables, and almost all of it is occupied by peoples. The atmosphere is loud, with people talking to each other and sometimes the workers.
"Welcome! If you want to eat, please take an open seat. If you come for jobs guidance, please head to the counter!" a waitress suddenly said as she noticed my presence there. I just nodded, nervously smiled.
I looked around. There's a skeleton, some sort of a giant snake, maybe even a Leviathan decorating the ceiling. A statue of a knight-looking man near the entrance. I don't who he is but he seems important.
"Hey!"
I snapped my head to the owner of the voice. A huge man, with a barbarian style clothing and a red morhawk hair, is looking at my direction.
I looked around, and see no one else. I point at myself asking for confirmation.
"Yes of course you!" he growled.
"Can I help you sir?" I ask.
"I haven't seen you face around here before." He said, taking a gulp of his drink. I don't know what the guy intention, but if he's here, then he must be a fellow adventurer too.
"Errr… I'm new in town. I just got here to become an adventurer." I said. The man put his mug down.
"Is that so. Hahahahahaha another reckless punk! Welcome to the Gates of Hell! The guild admission is that way!" he said, pointing at the front desk.
I exhaled in relief. I thought he's going to condemned me for a second. "Thank you Mr….." "You can call me Ruffian!" "Thank you Ruffian." I thanked Ruffian and proceed to the admission counter.
I standing in line, waiting for my turn. 'Another reckless punk. I wonder who he's talking about.'
"Welcome to the adventurers guild! I'm Luna. How can I help you." The receptionist greets me with a smile as my turn comes. I returned the smile.
"Hi. I'm here to become an adventurer." I said. The receptionist, Luna nodded.
"Alright then. The registration fee would be 1000 Eris."
Wait.
There's a registration fee?!
"Errr….. Actually I think I will register later. I have something I had to do first. Bye!" As soon as I said that, I quickly leave the counter. Dammit! How could I pay the fee without even a penny (or Eris!).
I sit at a table near the entrance, away from the counter. "(sigh)What should I do now…. Should I borrow some money from the Ruffian guy?" I look at the seat he sit earlier, but unfortunately he's nowhere to be found.
"So that's a no… Maybe I should meet the old man first-"
"Err… Excuse me?"
A sudden voice took attention. I look up to see a young girl, wearing what it seems to be a rouge class attire, with grey bikini-like top, green cape and blue scarfs. She's also wearing blue jeans-short and a pair of black fingerless gloves. She has short silver hair with a gradient of purple on the end, and bright purple eyes plus a scar on her right cheeks.
Why do I had a déjà vu feeling?
"Are you talking to me?" I asked her. To my surprise, she shook her head.
"Nah, I'm talking to her." She said, pointing behind me. I turn around, but no one to be seen.
"Oh my God yes! Of course I'm talking to you!" the girl exclaimed, hint of amused in her voice. I awkwardly scratches my neck.
"Oh me? Errr… yes, what can I help you?" I said. The girl giggles at my awkwardness.
"Actually it's the quite the opposite. I'm Chris by the way!" she said, holding out her hand.
I took her hand and shake it. "I'm Fajar. Nice to meet you Chris. And what do you mean by that?" I said, introducing myself.
"Well, you may not realize, but I'm behind you in the line back at the counter earlier. And sorry for eavesdropping but I guess you had a problem regarding the registration fee, am I right?" she said.
She's behind me? I really should pay more attention to my surroundings. Anyway, is she's going to do what I think she's going to do?
"Errr… yes." I answered her, hesitating between telling her the truth or lie to her.
"I thought so. How about I lend you some money?" she said. I wouldn't say I'm surprised, but it kinda embarrassing to get pitied by a stranger, a younger girl nonetheless.
"Errrr….. Are you sure?" I asked her.
"Of course! Today is your day, who knows when will be mine. Here, 2000 Eris. Enough for you to register and for you to have a decent meal for today!" she tossed a small pouch onto my hand. I looked into it and sees several gold coin. I repeatedly look between the pouch and Chris.
"Th-This a lot! Are you really sure about this?" I ask her again, just wanting a confirmation.
"Yeah of course! Now stop wasting time and go make yourself an adventurer!" she said, pushing me out from my seat. I almost stumble to the ground but managed to regain my balance. I look back at Chris and she gave me a grin and a thumbs up.
"Thank you very much Chris." I said to her, grinning back to her.
I walk to the counter and to my luck, Luna is still there. She caught me with her eyes and smile.
"Welcome back! I take it you already finish with your affair?" she said. I awkwardly laugh, opting not to answer the question.
"Well, I'm ready now. Here, 1000 Eris for the fee." I took out two pieces of gold coins from the pouch that Chris gave me and hand it to Luna.
"500 Eris, 1000 Eris. Alright then. Please follow me." Luna leave her counter and I follow her. We arrive at another counter, where a magical looking orb sits on the counter. She shows me a strange looking card.
"This is an adventurer card. This card will contain all of your information, and keep tracking on your progress. As you level up, you will gain skill points which can be used to learn skills." She explained. She put the card below the orb. "Please place your hand above the orb." She instructed me.
I place my hand above the orb, a few centimeters away from the orb itself. "Like this?"
As I said that, the orb glows, the mechanical parts around the orb began to move. The pointer below the orb aligned, beaming a blue light onto the card, like a laser printer. After a few seconds, the orb stops glowing.
"Alright then let's see…" Luna took the card and read it.
"Fajar Jamra huh? Hmmm… let see… HUH?!" Luna is shocked when she read my card, which I couldn't tell either it's a good sign or a bad sign. "Huh? What's wrong Luna?" I asked her, concerned.
"Well… Your agility, speed and luck is average. Your intelligence and strength is quite high and your magic power is slightly above average. But your vitality… I never seen anything like this before! It's so high that the number become invalid and the card cannot display how high it is!" she explained. And she explain loud, enough to catch the attention of several others adventurer.
"What?! That's insane!"
"That dude is basically invincible!"
"He really fit of becoming a tank!"
"Yesterday a girl with almost all high stats and today a guy with ridiculously high vitality! Rookies nowadays!"
More and more adventurer start to been attracted by the news. Some of them is hyped up, some just surprised by the unbelievable stats. Me, on the other hand just want to hide one of those counter. I never good with attention, let alone become the center of it.
"Errr…. Luna, can you proceed?" I asked her, really want to leave the center of attention as soon as possible.
"Oh right. With this kind of stats, you'll be fit as a tank-type of jobs, advanced job in fact. There's two advanced class job under this type, crusader and berserker. But with your stats, I recommended you to take the berserker class." She explained.
Crusader and Berserker huh?
If my guess is right, crusader will most likely act as a decoy, taking damages and holding the enemy off while the others dealing damages on the enemy. Berserker, different from the crusader, taking damages while also dealing damages at the same time. A kind of class which push through the enemies rather than holding them back.
And also a perfect class for me.
"Alright then Luna. Put me as a Berserker." I said confidently. Luna nodded, while pressing something on the card. The card glows for a second before she hand the card to me. "Congratulation Fajar. You're now a Berserker." She said, one again gaining other adventurers attention.
"Way to go rookie!"
"I will drink for your growth!"
"To the Berserker Fajar!"
(Sigh) Guess I have to get used with this kind of attention.
