Chapter 2

One year after... (7985)

Brom received a message from Gabranth informing Brom that Selena and the children had been moved to Ellesmera though it had taken a year and half for him to return to them. Brom was initially troubled that Gabranth knew of his family and that his children were to be schooled by his old master. [Who the hell is he? How does he know Selena?] were the questions going through Brom's head. No one knew about him and Selena and their children, it baffled Brom the moment he received message from Gabranth.

Even though he knew they were safer in Ellesmera it still troubled Brom that Gabranth had moved them to Carvahall and then felt extremely upset that Gabranth had asked the elves to move his family again to live in Ellesmera. All Brom knew was that Gabranth was a young rider from the fall and that he lived in Ellesmera for sixty years until he decided to help with the Varden that Brom had founded. He did not know this Gabranth, in fact he had no knowledge of where this young man came from which made Brom worried even more.

However, when he arrived in Ellesmera at the doorstep of his family. He realised how happy and healthy his family were when he finally laid eyes on them. So he did not have the heart to disappoint them by uprooting his family and moving again, the kids seemed content. It wasn't until a meeting with Oromis, Glaedr and King Evandar did he finally understand who Gabranth was. Glaedr shared a memory of Gabranth with his old pupil Brom.

Hello Brom

You might by now have questions wondering who in the hell is Gabranth and why in the hell would I rescue your pregnant wife and her son to keep them out of danger my moving them to safety in Carvahall and now Ellesmera. You also don't know who I am as I am really a stranger to you, and what I am about to reveal to you is that I am closer to you then you think.

My name is Eragon Bromsson, son of Brom and Selena, half brother to Murtagh, rider of Saphira II, mate of princess Arya, only free rider of Alagaesia and Leader Rider of the New Order. Shadeslayer of Durza & Vraugr, Bane of the Ra'zac and Lethblaka, Kingkiller of Black King Galbatorix.

My story is incredulous and has a lot to do with Alagaesia as in Alagaesia a person though that is debatable. I died at the killing of the Black King, and it is my fault as I was not meant to die but the massive explosion that took place because of killing Galbatorix. I inadvertently got caught in that explosion and died.

Alagaesia granted me a 2nd chance to make everything right to bring down the Black King. It is because the Black King's dark magic thanks to Durza, creation of shades and Ra'zac has contaminated the land of Alagaesia, and the pure magic of this land is disappearing. The 2nd chance threw me back to the last battle in Illeria the year of the fall and I changed history by saving the Elven King when in my world he should have been dead.

So, everything I have worked on in the last century was to ensure the Varden are ready, and the right tools are put in place to make sure end of the Black King is inevitable.

Part of these tools are the three stolen eggs which I have stored away till they are ready to be hatched. Saving you and rescuing my mother from certain death. Giving both sons the opportunity to have a childhood with both parents unencumbered from the dark musings of Galbatorix, the magician Faust and the Shade Durza. The Sapphire egg's rider is your son Eragon, and she will name herself Saphira. The Ruby egg's rider is your other son Murtagh, and he will name his dragon Thorn. The green egg's rider will be revealed after the other two has hatched.

Therefore, I decided to move our family to Ellesmera and that they be schooled and educated by Oromis and trained in weapons by the house of King Evandar. I made the decision because in my life Galbatorix raised me and threatened my mother if I did not obey. I was 12 years when Saphira hatched, after that for a year I was tortured by Galbatorix's top magician Faust who ripped my soul in half and replaced it with a malicious spirit. The magician did this so Galbatorix could control me because I was too young to have a true name to bound me into servitude. They were cruel and hurt my dragon to make me submit.

You need to finish the forsworn and Kill Morzan especially. Do not kill Formora she is worth a 2nd chance. Return Zarroc to Murtagh as it is his inheritance, also he change reshape it and eventually change the blades name from misery to something more purposeful. Murtagh is nothing like Morzan, his personality and character is all our mother's.

You need to read my journal as lives need to saved and you can do this. I have left it with Oromis.

Finally, I will not see you again, because as soon as my mother gives birth to Eragon I would cease to exist. Alagaesia called it the Convergence (Angela the witch understands it) and that was my 2nd Chance to come back earlier to make a difference. The creation of Varden, Du Gata Vrangr, alliance with the Dwarves and Elves and the Bane of the Forsworn are you father, I just finely tuned what was already there. Whatever comes next make it count father.

I Love you Father take care of mum and the kids for me.

It took Brom time sitting in silence just consuming information from the memory Gabranth left him through Glaedr. Tears fell from his eyes, and he as wiped them away he said "Gabranth was Eragon my son? Why didn't he tell me?"

Oromis replied "I believe he wanted too, but like Selena, he did not reveal himself. He mentioned Selena may have guessed in part, call it woman's intuition Gabranth said that she knew, from their first meeting when she was sent as the black hand to kill Gabranth. She could not explain it, but she said she did not want to kill him, and that moment of hesitancy gave Gabranth the opportunity to knock her unconscious thereafter. Gabranth explained that he set her free instead with the help of Angela, however he has explained that story is in his journal."

Oromis handed Brom the journal but was advised to return it before he left Ellesmera. The information supplied in the journal has not yet happened yet and if it was to fall into the wrong hands the result would be devastating. Brom nodded in reply.

When Brom left the meeting, he decided he would spend a month with his family before heading out of Du Weldenvarden. Selena was happy to have her family again, and the time shared within that month was special to Selena. Selena received special news two months later that she was pregnant. Brom returned once or twice a year so that his children would always know he was there for them.

On his return to Farthen Dur, Brom called for Formora, and explained from now on they would be working together to bring down the Forsworn if she was willing to work with him. It was true that their current relationship was one of distrust and dislike towards each other, until the truth of Gabranth was revealed to him.

"Why would I work with you, you have shown nothing but contempt and dislike towards me – you never hid that from anyone in the Varden" Formora reacted with a snide remark.

"Granted I don't trust you, but Eragon did and for reasons of my own I willing to prove him right about you" Brom commented.

Watching Formora's as he said this, he see a sadness in her eyes but then as quickly as he had seen it, it disappeared.

"So, you saw Eragon, is he ok?" Formora asked, Brom noticing one of concern in the undertone of her voice.

"No, he left a letter for me with a mutual friend, and it was quite convincing that you and I need to work together in ridding the Forsworn from Alagaesia. I realise I won't be able to do that without your help Formora" Brom swallowed hard.

"Eragon and his bloody letters… ". Looking back up at Brom "That must have hurt? Asking for my help – the mighty Brom, Bane of the Forsworn" Formora smirked with disdain.

"You too will be known as the Bane of the Forsworn if you help me Formora, but if you don't want to help me then stay here and run errands for Deynor if you prefer" Brom admonished with finality.

As Brom stood from his chair and turned to walk out of the room with not even a backward glance, he heard Formora "Fine… I'll help" she said not amused at Brom's comment of running errands for Deynor.

Brom turned back around and sat down at his seat smirking at Formora. "Wipe that smirk off your face old man" Formora snidely commented.

Brom sighed and thought to himself [if Eragon was willing to give you a chance Formora then so will I] "Fine..." Brom repeated and then the set to work.
