"Hermione?" Harry asked from his position on his bed at Number 12 Grimmauld Place. Hermione hummed, her eyes quickly darting across the page of Moste Potente Potions.
"What are classifications for wizards?"
Promptly she dropped her book, swinging her head around abruptly to gaze at her best friend, wide eyed.
"What do you mean Harry?" She questioned, confused.
"I over heard Siri arguing with Dumbledore about me not being classified and a fake one being released to the world," Harry mumbled, scratching his hair and neck, a habit he had when he was nervous.
"Headmaster Dumbledore did what? That's illegal! Let me explain what the classifications are.
There are Alphas, like Sirius and Madame Bones, who tend to be very powerful and have positions in power. Well, at least for Madame Bones. Then there are Betas and Omegas, they are often the mates of Aplhas. Often a Beta could mate with another Beta or an Omega, but Omegas never mate with another Omega and can give birth regardless of gender. Remus is an Omega, and is Sirius's mate.
Then there are Neutrals or Generals, who are regular wizards.
Next are Guardians or Caregivers. They take care of Littles and Middles and are often the mates of their Little or Middle. Guardians can marry one another and their children are often Littles or Middles. Guardians can also have platonic relationships with their Littles and Middles as well.
Finally are the Littles and Middles. They are persons just like anyone else but they are in a headspace of a much younger age. Littles tend to have a headspace between 0-5 years old and Middles can go up to ten years old. Also, littles and middles look different from regular wizards. They tend not to grow taller than four feet and have very child like features. A potion is given to a wizard or witch at fifteen to determine what classification they are. This is done at fifteen because its when we often gain any inheritances, like Veelas, and it can help with Alpha transformations since they undergo a huge growth spurt which can be painful. The growth of our magical core also soothes the pain. Like Cedric was," she finished explaining. Harry's eyes welled up with tears that he quickly brushed away at the mention of his late fellow competitor at the Triwizard Tournament last year.
"So, you and Ron have taken it?" He asked, fiddling with a pillow. Hermione nodded, and smiled.
"I'm an Omega, and Charlie is my mate. He's an Alpha. I'm not too sure about Ron though."
Harry's head shot up quickly, gaping at her. A blush spread over Hermione's cheeks at his expression. He suddenly grinned at her and jumped onto Ron's bed, squishing her in a hug.
"I'm so happy for you Mi! Why didn't you tell me?"
"I was ordered not to by Headmaster Dumbledore," she replied, face darkening in anger, "and now I know why."
"Could, could we do the potion with me?"
Hermione smiled at her best friend, who had been through so much with her, and by himself.
"Let's go ask Professor Snape. He and I are on good terms so I doubt he'd say no."
While wearing an apprehensive expression, Harry nodded and followed her down to the potions lab in the basement.
