People Are Troublesome

Disclaimer: Naruto isn't mine.

Hidan had not only bothered him for the entirety of the day and made his friends think they were having some kind of relationship, he had decided to take it one further. Shikamaru had forgotten he was there until he felt a foot kicking him in the head the next morning. The rain just hadn't stopped and so he had refused to leave. As the spare room was full of crap and Hidan refused to sleep on a sofa, he'd ended up sharing his bed. This had been bloody annoying. Shikamaru wasn't going to give up his bed for this intruder and had ended up sleeping top to tails with him. It was just a good thing his parents had come in late and so he'd been able to avoid parental questioning.

"…Hidan?" Waking up a short tempered Hidan wasn't something he particularly wanted to do but he also wanted to get ready for school. The boy was very deeply asleep and didn't even stir at the sound.

Shikamaru slowly stepped out of bed and glanced at the others face. Without the look of extreme hatred he usually had, he looked almost passable. The girls would probably consider him attractive. It was the personality that let him down.

Shikamaru started getting his uniform together and sorting out his school bag but Hidan still didn't move. When he returned after showering, changing and eating his breakfast there still hadn't been any movement. If he left any later he'd definitely be late himself but if he didn't try to wake the boy he could get yelled at. It was a difficult choice to make.

"Hidan?" No response. "Hidan." Some movement under the covers. "Hidan!"

"Nn?" He sat up suddenly, a bewildered look on his face and his eyes heavy with sleep. His hair, normally slicked back was all over the place and he stared over blearily through tufts of grey hair.

"You realise you're gonna be late, right?" Hidan stared. "For school?"

"…Bed." He slumped back and pulled the cover over his head.

"…" I don't want to leave him alone in my bed but… "You can let yourself out later, right?"

"Hn." It sounded like an affirmative.

"Ok… See you later?"

"Hn."

Well that wasn't awkward. He was almost glad to be leaving the house. Hopefully there wouldn't be too much damage. Most of the food in the cupboards would probably be missing but he could deal with that.

Choji dropped his bag of crisps when he saw Shikamaru enter the classroom. Seeing Choji drop his food was a rare occurrence and it only happened for truly monumental events. Kiba and Neji hadn't exactly been quiet about what had happened.

"…Hi?" By now all of his friends were staring.

"You're alive!" Ino grabbed him and poked his face before hugging him.

"What are you doing?"

"Shut up! I've been worrying about you all night!"

"Oh…" This was unexpected. He'd been sure she was going to make comments about his sexuality as she usually did for these kinds of things.

"What happened? He had a knife right?" Naruto was close behind Ino.

"I'm sorry!" And even Kiba was acting weird. "I left you there to deal with him!"

"Err… Well I would've done the same thing so…"

"But why was he there?"

"…It's a really long story."

"Wh-." This was interrupted by Iruka walking in. They hadn't been at their seats for long before a piece of paper hit him on the back of the head. He unfurled it. The word 'Explain' was written at the top of the page in Inos handwriting. With a resolute sigh he grabbed a pen.

'I tripped him over the other day, had to bring him round to mine to fix things, now he follows me round all the time'. Writing anything else would be troublesome. It didn't take long for the piece of paper to work its way around the whole of his friend group. By break time he was sick of the stares.

"How has he been following you?" Naruto was the first to bring up the subject.

"Just staring at me, following me home, sitting near me etc."

"He's stalking you?" Ino looked horrified. "Are you ok?"

"I think so?" Although everyone else seemed majorly freaked out by all this he was quite laid back in comparison. This wasn't due to a lack of fear of Hidan but rather an acceptance of this weird situation.

"What should we do?"

"Want us to guard you?"

"Although you did nearly wet yourself yesterday." It had been funny and he could see in a way why Hidan had done it.

"Why was he in your house?" Kiba was going red at the memory of the day before and so was rushing to change the subject.

"He didn't want to walk home in the rain."

"But why was he near your house in the first place?" Naruto was giving him a look as if to say 'You're an idiot'.

"I don't know… I asked him but he wouldn't tell me."

"You asked Hidan why he was being Hidan?"

"Yes and I'm surprised I lived too."

"How'd you get rid of him?"

"…I didn't?" This caused a stunned silence. "It's not like you guys could get rid of him either."

"Is he still there?" Kiba gulped.

"I really hope not." If he was really unlucky he'd find the boy still in his bed.

"…Want to do something after school?"

"Sure." If he did something with Naruto, it would give Hidan a bit more time to be gone from the house.

-Page Break-

"Are you sure you don't want to stay here?" Naruto had paused his game and was staring at him. He'd been so focused on playing his game he'd forgotten that Shikamaru was still there and so it had startled him when the Nara had announced he was going to leave.

"I'm not being driven out of my own damn house." He had enough of this crap from his parents. It was doubtful that Hidan would still be there anyway.

When he got back to the house he could see that his parents had been and gone. This wasn't an unusual thing but it was annoying when he couldn't go steal their leftover food. It was with a great feeling of dread that he walked into his room. It was empty with the covers pulled back over the bed.

Shikamaru sighed with relief and sat down. It was nice to be alone for a change. He threw the uniform on the floor and pulled on some random crappy shirt and trousers. He lay back and closed his eyes hoping to get some sleep before anyone got home. The opening of his bedroom door kind of ruined that.

"Your shower is kind of shit." He nearly fell out of the bed.

"You're still here?" Hidan was topless and wearing another pair of the smaller boys trousers. His hair was damp and he was carrying a towel.

"I guess…" Shikamaru moved up quickly as Hidan came and sat where he'd just been.

"…Why were you using my shower?"

"I'm clean."

"I see." This didn't really explain why he had to shower here instead of using the one in his own home. "You didn't go to school I see."

"Why should I?"

"Because you're supposed to?"

"Do you like going?" Hidan was staring at him.

"Not particularly. But I have to go."

"And no one gives a shit if I go or not."

"Oh… I guess that's a good point." If he could get away with skiving that often he would do it. In a lot of ways Hidan had the right idea. "Were you sleeping all day?"

"I wanted to but your fucking dad came in here."

"He does that a lot…"

"He won't anymore." That really doesn't sound good.

"Great… So, any plans for the rest of the evening?" Like going home maybe?

"Hn." Shikamaru was feeling pretty worried. It was already late and he had no excuse to get out of the house tomorrow. Surely this wasn't right. The boy had invaded his house for the whole day.

"Aren't your family going to be worried?"

"About what?" Hidan had a blank expression on his face.

"That you haven't been home."

"No."

"Oh. So did you ring them?"

"I live alone. And I don't have anyone to ring either."

"…I'm sorry." Although he couldn't have been expected to know this.

"Why do you keep saying that?" Hidan seemed kind of angry for some reason.

"You mean 'sorry'?"

"Yes, that. Why?" This was a pretty odd thing to ask.

"Because I am?" Surely this was obvious.

"You're what?"

"Sorry. For saying something that might offend you."

"Oh." Hidan seemed to be pondering this.

"…Don't be offended but when are you planning on going home?"

"Sometime."

"Are you, by any chance, planning on staying here another night?"

"If you're offering." What? That sneaky-.

"Well… Actually…" Just tell him to leave!

"I'm hungry." He then hopped up and headed to the kitchen, completely ignoring the look of shock on Shikamarus face.

How am I going to get rid of him? Just asking him to leave didn't feel like an option at this point. And this was his own home of course. Hidan returned with a mouthful of bacon.

"Where did you get that?"

"Fridge."

"I see." Hidan stared at him and held out the plate.

"What?"

"I'm offering you food, Jackass."

"Well that's nice of you…" Offering me food in my own house. Even Choji wouldn't just help himself to food in someone else's house. And no one else would force themselves into his bed either. And they wouldn't lie down on the bed whilst Shikamaru was still on it.

"Move up asshole."

"Excuse me?"

"I can't get at the fucking blanket." Shikamaru just stood up without really thinking about it.

"Err…" Hidan grabbed the blanket and rolled over. "Haven't you had enough sleep?"

"No." He was mumbling slightly.

"Ok…" Shikamaru sighed.

"What's your problem?" Hidan suddenly sat up, startling him.

"Nothing."

"Then why do you keep being weird?" The complete hypocrisy of the statement shocked him.

"And why are you angry?" This was a much more important question.

"Eh?" The look of rage was replaced by one of confusion. "What you mean?"

"Err…" This did surprise him. Surely it was obvious? "Well you're clearly annoyed, right?"

"I am?"

"…"

"What?"

"So you're not angry?"

"No?"

"…But you look really pissed off." And indeed looked pissed off most of the time.

"Why do people always say that?"

"…You mean you didn't realise?" This was something unexpected.

"Realise what?" He looked really confused now.

"You look really annoyed. Most of the time."

"Really?"

"Well you scowl at people."

"Oh. Well that explains a lot." Hidan considered this a moment, shrugged and then lay back down.

"…" He didn't notice? How someone could look really angry all of the time and not realise was beyond him.

"And why are you pissed off?" Hidan didn't even bother looking up.

"Me?"

"You're pissed at me."

"Err…"

"Don't give me any bullshit."

"…Well you are kind of taking over my house." The stalking outside his house he could deal with but having his inner sanctum disturbed was somehow more horrific.

"…So if I return the favour, we're good?"

"The what?" This made no sense to him.

"Got it." What does he get?

"Err… Hidan?" There was no reply. How does he fall asleep so fast? He was probably faking it though.
