What if a certain cheerleader and a certain burnout met before a certain doofus came into the picture? How different would things be?

Part five of my tumblr prompts game.

Prompt suggested by Kim1918 via ask:

"Maybe a complete AU where Hyde and Jackie are secretly dating and the gang is trying to find out who Hyde's new girlfriend is... and then comes Jackie lol. I always love fics where Jackie is introduced into the group as Hyde's girlfriend. It's always fun to see how they would have gotten together without the whole Kelso mess."

Okay, so the second I've received this prompt on my ask box, my mind came up with a crazy idea. I got carried away with it and this is no longer a one-shot because the word count got too long, so I will be dividing this into three parts.

That being said, I am actually really proud of it, I spent over three months working on this and I'm really happy with the end result. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Willow

Hyde lit a cigarette and sat on the dirty ground, leaning his back against the hardwood of the willow tree.

Edna kicked him out again. She and one of his new "uncles" were hosting "poker night" at the house and didn't want him around to ruin their fun.

Not that he'd want to spend his night watching his mom fucking random trailer trash and getting high. If they didn't kick him out, he would've left anyway.

In normal circumstances, he would've gone to the Forman's, but it was past 10 and they were probably in bed already. So he walked to his favorite spot in the woods, the one place where he knew he would get some peace and quiet for a while, because no one knows this place other than him.

He found it randomly when he was 10, he was wandering around the woods alone, trying to avoid going home to Edna, when he tripped on a root and his shades flew through the air. He went to grab them and saw the big willow tree and the small pond nearby, and decided that maybe he should stay for a while, this place brought him some kind of peace of spirit he'd never experienced before.

He had just finished his cigarette when he heard footsteps, which is weird, because in all the years he's been to this place before, he'd never seen anyone else.

For a few seconds, he was afraid that Edna tracked him down, but he quickly shrugged that off. Edna was way too high to do anything right now, at this point, she probably already forgot she had a son.

"Stupid branches, stupid nature..." He heard a girl muttering to herself, and he took his sunglasses off so he could try to see who was the nutcase walking alone in the woods at night.

His breath hitched when he finally saw her, she was probably the most beautiful girl he'd ever seen.

She was wearing a blue gala gown; her hair was pinned up on a fancy bun and she was muttering insults to no one in particular.

"Idiots, they're all idiots. Why the hell did they have a kid if they're going to treat…"

Then she stopped rambling and screamed, very loudly. Hyde ran in her direction and saw her splattered on the dirty ground, she probably tripped on the same root he had all those years ago.

"What are you doing here?" He asked, helping the girl up

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you owned the woods" The girl replied snottily, patting the skirt of her dress to get rid of dirt "But thanks for helping me"

"You didn't answer my question," Hyde said

"You didn't ask me nicely" She replied, and Hyde rolled his eyes.

"It's the middle of the night, and you're wandering in the woods by yourself?" Hyde asked, "Are you insane? Do you know how dangerous that is?"

"You're here by yourself" She argued, crossing her arms

"I'm a guy" He replied "I'm not the usual target of serial killers"

"Ugh" The girl huffed, ignoring Hyde's statement "Great, I just broke my heel"

Hyde looked at her incredulously, this chick's nuts. She's gorgeous, but nuts.

"That's what you're worried about?" Hyde asked, "What are you doing here, man?"

"Running away from my parents" She answered, moving to sit under the tree, on the same spot he was before. He sighed and sat next to her, he'd have to put up with her company for now. He's not planning on going back home for at least a couple more hours, and there's no way in hell he's letting this chick walk home alone. He might be an asshole, but he's not that much of an asshole, he knows what happens to girls that walk alone at night.

Hyde lit up another cigarette, and they stayed in silence for a couple of minutes, until she broke it.

"I'm Jackie Burkhart," She said, smiling cordially and extending her hand for him to shake it. He hesitantly did so, and her smile broadened "Now's the time you introduce yourself"

He rolled his eyes "Name's Hyde"

"Oh, I think I know you! Do you happen to have a red-haired lumberjack friend?" Jackie asked, and Hyde nodded "Yeah, I definitely know you. She threw a ball on my head once and you laughed"

"Yeah, I remember that day. It was funny" He laughed, and she rolled her eyes

"It was not, I had a headache for days after that." Jackie said "But at least you're smiling, you looked angry and I have a feeling that's not because of me. Wanna tell me what's going on?"

"Why would I tell you about my life? I don't know you" Hyde replied gruffly. He expected to see her squirming and calling him names, but she just shrugged and looked at the sky.

"I was just trying to help, but I get it," She said "I don't like talking about my problems either"

"What do you know about having problems?" He snarled at her. She looked like a rich girl, and he figured she was running away because daddy gave her a pearl instead of a diamond, or something equally lame.

"Do you really think an unproblematic girl would've been running in the woods alone in the middle of the night wearing a designer dress?" Jackie asked snobbishly

Hyde shrugged, and she sighed.

"Mom and dad were throwing a fancy gala, and I caught my dad making out with his secretary in his office," She said "Not that my mom would've cared though, since I caught her with the pool boy last week. I tried to confront him but he just told me that's 'grown ups' business and that I should stay out of it, and I just… I had to get out of there"

Hyde furrowed his brows. Looks like he misjudged her.

She had a sad look on her face, her eyes were glued to the starry sky, and he felt like an ass.

"I'm sorry," He said honestly "Shitty parents are the worst"

"Thanks," She said, smiling at him "I get that you don't want to tell me why you were upset, but if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing here? Are you disposing of a body or something?"

"No" He chuckled "I come here every once in a while to sort my thoughts"

"Oh, I see. Sorry to ruin your me time" She said honestly

He raised an eyebrow at her "Me time?"

"Yeah, the time you dedicate to yourself" She explained

"It's alright," Hyde said, surprising himself "This isn't bad"

She smiled at him again, and they both looked up at the sky at the same time. It was a summer night, the sky was free of clouds, and millions of white dots shined in the space. It was a breathtaking sight.

"I don't want to go back home now; do you mind if I stay for a while?" Jackie asked, and Hyde just shrugged. She smiled "Great! Have you ever been stargazing before?"

"Isn't that what we're doing right now?" He asked, and she giggled

"Kind of, but can you point out a constellation for me?"

Hyde looked at the sky again and saw nothing but millions of white dots with no connection whatsoever.

"No" He replied, "Can you?"

"Yes" She replied proudly "My grandma got me a book on constellations for my tenth birthday, and taught me how to spot them before she died"

"That's cool," Hyde said, but without his usual zen tone. Because that was actually pretty cool.

"C'mon" Jackie got up and grabbed his hand, moving away from the large willow tree and dragging him to a small area without any trees that might block their view "I'll show you some"

She lied down on the ground, and he lied next to her, hooking his sunglasses to the hem of his shirt.

"See that one?" She said, pointing at the sky "In between those two very bright stars?"

"Not really," Hyde said honestly. There are too many goddamn stars in the sky, they are all the same to him.

"C'mon, it's not that hard, it's right in the middle of the sky," She said "Look at that star over there, it's the brightest of them all, it's called Arthurus. See it?"

"Yeah, I see it," Hyde said, grinning to himself when he finally found it

"Now look just a little bit lower. Here, look at where I'm pointing" She said "There are a few stars that kind of form a squarish shape, and it looks like it has two legs and two arms. Can you see it?"

"Kind of"

"That's Hercules" She explained "It's one of the easier constellations to spot, and it's only visible in the summer"

"Isn't Hercules a Greek god?" Hyde asked

"A demigod" She answered "He's probably the most famous hero from all the greek mythology. He's Zeus' son, the most powerful god of all, the god of the sky and thunder"

"A hero, huh?" Hyde muttered, "Why's that?"

"When Zeus' wife, Hera, found out about Hercules, she cursed him" Jackie explained "He had a wife, and two kids by then. She cast an evil spell on him to drive him insane, and he ended up killing his entire family. When he came back into his senses, he felt extremely guilty and was heartbroken, so he asked Apollo, the god of truth, to punish him for the awful things he'd done under Hera's spell"

"Apollo said that it wasn't his fault, but Hercules insisted on being punished, so Apollo ended up giving him a certain number of heroic tasks to do" She continued "I don't remember how many, but I know that he succeeded on all of them, and after that, he became immortal and went to spend the eternity at the Olympus with the other gods"

"That's… actually pretty cool"

"Each constellation and each star has a story behind it," She said, smiling at him "Isn't it fascinating?"

Hyde turned to look at her and his heart fluttered for a few seconds. She was truly the most beautiful girl he's ever seen. She had pulled her hair out of her fancy bun a while ago, and the silky raven strands were strewn on the dirty ground like a halo around her head. Her big doll-like eyes reflected the stars, and he never wanted to kiss someone as much as he wants to kiss her now.

Damn, he really wanted to kiss her, which is crazy, right? She's practically a stranger.

"It truly is," He said, smiling slightly at her and watching as she continued to point out the constellations to him.

They spent two hours like this, laying on the ground and stargazing together, and Hyde found out that it didn't suck. In fact, this was probably one of the best nights he had in a while.

"Hey, Hyde?" He heard her calling him softly and turned his head to look at her again

"Yeah?"

"Hyde… That's your last name, right? What's your first name?" She asked, but didn't give him time to answer, because she glanced at his wristwatch and her eyes widened "I… I think I need to go home now"

He nodded in understanding. It was past one by now, and Edna was probably passed out under someone, so it was safe for him to go back home. Part of him was disappointed, he was having a good time with Jackie.

She got up and ran her fingers through her hair, Hyde put his shades back on and got up right after, holding her when he saw her wobbling on her feet.

"Crap, I forgot that my heel broke" She lamented, leaning into Hyde as she took off her sandals "That sucks"

"Hop on," Hyde said, lowering himself in front of her, offering her a piggyback ride "I'll take you home"

He expected some arguing from her, but he got none. Instead, he felt her wrapping her arms around his neck, so he helped her up and held onto the underside of her thighs, when he noticed that she finally got settled on his back, he started walking.

"This where you live?" He asked as he entered the richest neighborhood of Point Place, using Jackie Burkhart as his personal backpack.

She probably could be walking right now, he didn't need to carry her anymore, there aren't any twigs or anything that might harm her feet on the sidewalk, but he kind of didn't want to let her go yet.

"Yeah, my house's just a block away," She said, leaning her head against his so she could take a better look at the houses ahead "The party's definitely over by now"

He just grunted a reply, but she didn't seem to mind and continued to rest her head against his comfortably.

It didn't take them too long to reach her driveway. Hyde reluctantly put her down once they were at her doorstep, and she smiled at him. For some reason unknown to him, his heart skipped a beat.

"Jackie…" He said, scratching the back of his neck "My name's, well, my first name, is Steven"

Her smile brightened "Well, Steven, thank you for the lovely night. See you there again tomorrow, same time?"

He chuckled, this chick is bold, and he's really digging it.

"Alright, I'll see you tomorrow"

She stood on her tippy toes and kissed his cheek before getting inside the house, and Hyde stood dumbfounded on her doorway for a few seconds, his fingers lightly touching his cheek.

He turned around and started the long walk back home, with a small satisfied grin on his face.

"Hey, Steven!" Jackie said, emerging from the woods, holding a big basket. He smiled and scooted to the side so she could sit next to him "Thanks, this thing is heavy"

They've been meeting on the same spot in the woods almost every night for the past month, and it's been… Incredible. Jackie is surprisingly a very good company.

She talks - a lot, but she's a pretty good listener too. He was reluctant to tell her about his shitty home life, so he mainly just listened to her during the first couple of weeks, but one day he showed up with a small cut above his eyebrow and she nagged him into talking. He did, and instead of feeling awkward, he felt… lighter, somehow. She didn't judge him, nor did she make him feel pitied, which made him feel more comfortable around her.

Jackie's amazing, he finds himself thinking about her during most part of his days, and he looks forward to meeting with her at nights.

"What's that?" He asked curiously, gesturing to the large basket in her hands

"That is a basket filled with snacks that I stole from my parent's fancy dinner party" Jackie answered, smiling proudly "There might be a whole bottle of champagne there too"

He chuckled "You're a fine student, grasshopper"

"There's smoked salmon crostini, crab cakes, pesto tortellini skewers, fried shrimp, bruschetta, and some other things in there," Jackie said, opening the basket and setting a small picnic for them

"I didn't understand half the things you said" Hyde replied "But hey, it's free food"

"You're going to like it, trust me" Jackie smiled and popped the bottle of champagne open "How was your day?"

"Crappy," He answered. Edna just got a new boy toy who seemed to enjoy smacking people around, and he was doing his best to avoid staying at home right now "Yours?"

"Also crappy" She replied, taking a swig of champagne and passing the bottle to him "My mom has been back for a week and I've only seen her this morning, and that's only because she wanted to make sure I wouldn't miss her dinner party tonight"

He smirked at her "And yet here you are"

"I stayed at the party for less than 10 minutes," Jackie said with a small frown "Stole all this stuff and came here. By the way, sorry I was late"

"It's alright. What happened at the party?" He asked "You seem a little upset"

"My mom was trying to pimp me out, can you believe it?" Jackie said indignantly and started eating "I'm 15 years old, and she was trying to set me up with a guy who just graduated from college, and he wouldn't leave me alone. How sick is that?"

Hyde scowled, the thought of some older guy hitting on Jackie was pissing him off more than he'd like to admit "Fucking predator, you should've kicked him in the nads"

"I wish my mom had nads just so I could kick them" Jackie muttered under her breath "My mother is the living proof that maybe beauty isn't enough to make people like you, because I hate her"

Hyde chuckled. That's another surprising thing about Jackie; she's freaking hilarious, without meaning to, of course. Her naiveness combined with her bitchy attitude often results in unintentional backhanded compliments (mostly aimed at her parents) and that should piss him off, but he just finds it endearing.

Lately, every single thing she does is endearing for him.

"You're a freaky chick," He said, passing her the bottle of champagne.

"Steven!"

"What? I like it" He said

He smirked; her blushing didn't go unnoticed by him.

They continued to eat in comfortable silence, passing the champagne bottle to each other and taking long sips until the bottle was empty.

After they were done eating, Jackie extended his hand to him, and they both laid down on their spot in the grass, enjoying their nice buzz and observing the few visible stars.

"The full moon is gorgeous, but it sucks for stargazing," Jackie said "You can barely see the stars because of the moonlight"

"It's still a nice sight though" Hyde replied. He wasn't sure if he was referring to the beautiful girl lying next to him or the moon.

She smiled, and took his hand in hers, making shivers go down his spine.

In a bold move that Hyde would later blame on the alcohol, he laced their fingers together.

He closed his eyes. This feels nice.

"You know… I've read a bunch of books about stars and constellations, and they barely mention the moon," Jackie said, rubbing her thumb through the back of his hand "Isn't it weird?"

"What's to know about the moon, man?" Hyde asked "It's a giant cheese that floats around our planet"

Jackie laughed "I don't think that Neil Armstrong agrees"

"C'mon, you actually believe that the man went to the moon?" Hyde scoffed

"You actually believe the moon is made of cheese?" Jackie retorted

Hyde chuckled "The cheese thing was a joke, but there's no way in hell the moon landing was real"

"Oh really? Why's that?"

"Well, first, that was obviously a studio," Hyde said "You could see the cables, man! And how the hell did they manage to take all of that filming equipment to space? The whole thing was a hoax"

She laughed, and he turned his head to look at her. Fuck, she really is the most beautiful girl he's ever seen.

Her delicate features were being illuminated by the moonlight, and he could see almost every detail of her face, from her little button nose to her perfect pouty lips... and for what had to be the hundredth time since they met a month ago, he wanted to kiss her.

She looked up at him, and he almost, almost blushed. He's been staring at her for a while now, and she probably thinks he's a creep.

But then she smiled before looking at the moon again, and he felt his heart skipping a beat when he saw her eyes.

"Hey, Jackie, look at me again for a sec," Hyde said, inching closer and cupping one of her cheeks with his free hand, looking her deeply in the eye "Your eyes… They're different colors"

Jackie immediately closed her eyes and tried to turn her head away, but he held on to her.

"C'mon man, let me see them," He said, gently rubbing his thumb through her smooth cheek. Jackie slowly looked at him again "They're beautiful"

"You really think so?" She asked, looking unsure "Mom says that my eyes are weird and that I should hide them"

"Your mom's a bitch" Hyde blurted "Your eyes are beautiful man, can't believe I only noticed them now"

"Well, we do only meet in the nights, and our vision isn't exactly perfect in the dark"

"Your vision isn't perfect in the dark," Hyde said, chuckling a little when he saw her indignant face "Mine is, I'm almost like a cat"

"Okay, then why didn't you notice my weird eyes sooner?" She questioned with a small smile

"Stop calling them weird," Hyde said "And that… was probably a glitch in the matrix"

"Is that one of your stoner expressions I'm not familiar with?" She asked, frowning at him

He smiled at her and gently ran his finger through the back of her hand. Her frown was immediately replaced by a bright smile. "Probably"

"Anyways, the only reason why your eyesight is so good at night is because you wear those stupid sunglasses all the time," Jackie said "I bet that if you take them off during the day, your retinas will burn"

He laughed "They won't"

"Why do we never see each other during the day?" Jackie asked "Not that I don't enjoy our night encounters, but I don't know, it would be nice to see how you look in sunlight sometime"

"That would be cool," He said "As long as it's here"

Jackie pouted at him and let go of his hand, and Hyde immediately felt cold.

"Are you like… Embarrassed of me or something, Steven? Is that why we can never meet somewhere that's not here?"

He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose with his now free hand. He's too drunk to talk about that shit now.

He was about to try to change the subject when he saw the hurt in her eyes, and fuck, he hates seeing her sad.

"C'mon Jackie, I already told you about my mom," Hyde said, grabbing her hand in his again

"Your mom's a whore and I hate her," Jackie said, making Hyde stifle a laugh "But I don't see why we can't be seen in public"

"My mom's not a good person, Jackie," He said, absentmindedly rubbing the almost healed scar above his eyebrow, from when one of Edna's boy toys punched him two weeks ago. He remembers that night vividly, he was about to leave to meet Jackie when he accidentally bumped into a very high "Uncle" Rodney, who punched him in the face without any hesitation while Edna laughed.

He was used to it by now, so he just grabbed a wet cloth from the kitchen and tried to stop the bleeding all while walking to the woods.

When Jackie saw him that night, she freaked out and begged him to tell her what happened. So he did. He'd told her everything, and the rest is history.

Then he felt her warm breath on his face, and he swallowed nervously. She kissed his now almost faint scar and snuggled closer to him, laying her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around him.

"I'm afraid she'll try something against you," Hyde confessed quietly.

Jackie knew how twisted Edna was, and how far she'd go to make him miserable.

"Do you really think your mother would try to hurt me just because I hang out with you?" Jackie asked in an incredulous and heartbroken voice.

"Honestly? Yeah" Hyde answered, hugging her back

"But… I don't understand" She said, raising her head from his chest to look at him "I've seen you hanging out with the same group of friends all the time. Has she ever tried something against them?"

He took a deep breath and held her tighter against his chest, trying to figure out a way to answer her question.

The truth is, Edna never tried anything against his friends, but it's not because she doesn't want to, it's because she knows she would never get away with it.

Edna knows better than to mess with Red Forman's son.

Donna's parents are not very scary or smart, but they're protective and they care deeply about Donna, they'd definitely notice if she has an extra scratch.

Fez's foster parents are strict, but they have a lot of influence in town, and they'd definitely notice if something ever happens to him.

Kelso has a big family, and you'd think he's neglected by his parents and brothers because of that, but he actually isn't. His older brothers mess with him a lot, but the whole town knows about the time Casey and Aaron punched the shit out of the class bully from 6th grade because he broke Kelso's wrist.

Every single one of his friends has someone who'd notice if something is wrong, someone who'd make sure Edna pays if she even thought about touching them.

Jackie doesn't. Her parents are never around, they probably wouldn't even notice if she goes missing. She's small and beautiful, and a fucking good target, which is why Edna can never know about her.

He didn't know how to explain that to Jackie. What the hell is he supposed to say?

'Hey, my mom might harm you because your parents don't care about you, and no one but me would notice if something happens to you'

Yeah, he's definitely not saying that.

"Because… my friends can take care of themselves" Hyde tried to come up with an excuse "You're… you're too tiny, and innocent, and cute, and Edna hangs out with dangerous guys that might try something against you, and…"

"Wait" Jackie interrupted him "You think I'm cute?"

"Jeez, Jackie, that's what you're focusing on?"

"Yeah" She answered, running her fingers through his chest and making shivers go down his spine "I understand why you don't want Edna finding out about me, but there's just one more thing I don't get… Why can't I meet your friends?"

"Because word would get out and Edna would find out" Hyde answered "C'mon, this is Point Place, almost every single habitant is just as nosy as you, if not more"

"Steven!"

He chuckled, and before he could think about what he was doing, he pressed a kiss to the top of Jackie's head.

She looked at him intensively, and he stared at her lips again, this time though, she was staring back at his lips, parting her own in anticipation.

Holy fuck, she wanted to kiss him just as bad as he wanted to kiss her.

Alarm bells rang on his brain though, and he broke their eye contact to look at his watch.

"Holy crap, it's past 3 AM!" He said, getting up from the ground and stumbling on his feet. Crap, he forgot he was kind of drunk.

Jackie looked dazed for a few seconds, but she quickly recomposed herself, grabbed the empty basket, and tried to get to her feet too.

"Hey, doll?" He said, helping her up "Your shoes can handle this walk? 'Cuz I don't think I can take you on my back now"

She pouted "Why?"

"Because I'm drunk, and if you hop on my back now we'll both fall down" He stated, and laughed. Jackie soon started laughing with him.

She grabbed his hand and they started the walk back to her house, fingers laced together.

"Guess the party's over, huh?" Hyde said as he and Jackie stood on her porch, looking at the empty street and the dark house in front of them.

"Thank God" Jackie breathed out relieved. Then he noticed how she was looking at the driveway and how she suddenly looked upset.

"Hey… What's wrong?"

"My mom's car is gone," Jackie said gloomily, her eyes filling with tears "She's probably on her way to the airport right now"

"Hey man, c'mon," He said, gently tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear when he noticed she was about to cry. He hates seeing her cry. "She's not worth your tears"

"I know," She said, blinking the wetness away and engulfing him in a tight hug "You're amazing, you know that, right?"

He leaned his chin on top of her head and smiled "Yeah?"

"You're the sweetest, coolest guy I've ever met," She said, smiling at him "Just thought I should let you know"

He looked down at her the same time she looked up at him, and if his brain could focus on something other than her beautiful lips and her intoxicating smell, he would've been able to actually hear his frantic heartbeats.

It was impossible to know who leaned in first. But in one second they were just staring at each other, the other second they were kissing as if their lives depended on it.

The second their lips met, he knew that this wasn't just a kiss. He kissed plenty of other girls before, and none of them ever made him feel this way.

Her mouth is warm and wet, and her lips taste slightly like cherry chapstick and champagne, and God, he wants more.

He slid his tongue over hers when she opened her mouth, deepening the kiss, while her arms laced around his neck. He could feel her delicate fingers tangling themselves on his hair and he felt like fireworks were going off on his chest.

He didn't know how long they spent with their lips locked, he was lost in the moment, getting high on the amazing feeling that is to taste her.

He groaned into her mouth when he felt her nails lightly scratching his scalp. Damn, Jackie is one of the best things that ever happened in his life.

Then realization hit him hard. She really is one of the best things that ever happened in his life, and he can't have good things, because Edna ruins them.

Just like she ruined "Uncle" Chat - the only "uncle" that didn't smack him around and seemed to care about him, the one who bought him a Led Zeppelin shirt when he went to their concert - by getting caught with drugs and blaming it all on him. He tried to defend himself, but the police believed Edna simply because uncle Chet wasn't white.

He'd never forget Edna's sadistic smile when the cops were taking him away.

'Keep that scene in mind every time you get too close with someone, kiddo' Edna said to him before laughing and entering the house again.

He knew Edna did that just because Chet was becoming someone important to him, and he knew that Edna wouldn't hesitate to ruin someone else's life just to make her own son miserable.

And he'd told Jackie about that, she knows everything.

He's about to do one of the most painful things he'd ever done, but it's for her own sake, she has to understand that.

He broke their kiss, and she gave him a look that made him weak at his knees. She was looking at him like he's the most amazing guy in the world, like Page looks at his guitar, like Linda looks at Paul, like… Like Kitty looks at Red.

He took a deep breath and tried to come up with something to say, but she beat him up on it.

"Steven, is there something wrong?" She asked, staring at his soul with her big, beautiful mismatched eyes of hers.

He wanted to throw something, he wanted to scream, because he wanted her. He wanted Jackie more than he'd ever wanted anything in his life, and he silently cursed the universe for giving him a shitty mother like Edna. A mother that would probably use Jackie to threaten him whenever she's up to it.

He wanted her, God, his heart yearned for her, but he wanted for her to be safe more than anything, and for that to happen, he needed to get away from her.

"Look, Jackie, this was a mistake," He said, stepping away from her "This… This can't happen again, alright?"

When he finally got the guts to look at her, the sadness and the confusion in her eyes made him want to fucking kill himself. She needs to understand man, she has to understand.

"Jackie…"

"I get it," She said, her voice breaking "I'll see you around, Steven"

Before he had the time to come up with something to say, she entered the house, locking the door behind her.

He took a deep breath and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He did the right thing man, he did, and she'd understand that eventually.

He lit a cigarette and started his long walk back home, all while trying to convince himself that she's better off without him.

If only the pain in his heart would go away.

She never felt so embarrassed in her life.

It's been five days. Five days that they kissed, and five days since she last saw him.

She went back to the woods every single night, but he didn't show up. She spent hours in the dark woods, scared out of her mind - she found out that she doesn't feel safe there unless Steven's with her -, waiting for him. She wanted to talk, she wanted to know what the hell was that whole thing about.

Because there's no way he didn't feel those sparks. No way.

Steven can be a lot of things, but if there's something she learned during her nightly meetings with him, it is that he's not a good liar.

She had a slight feeling of what may be going on inside his head, and she didn't like it one bit.

He'd told her stories about his mom, and some of them were downright terrifying. Sometimes she couldn't understand how this evil woman managed to have such a good son. Steven is the opposite of his mother, he's a really good person, he doesn't deserve this.

But would Edna really try something against her? She didn't think so.

She sniffled and wiped the wetness away from her face - caused by the many hours of crying over him. She needs to get over it. She needs to accept that he doesn't want her, and crying over him is only going to hurt her more. She's Jackie freaking Burkhart, she's gorgeous, and he's missing out on her.

So what if she's in love with him? It's only been a month since they've met, she can forget about him soon, right?

Yeah Jackie, you keep telling that to yourself.

Her stomach rumbled and she sighed. Her father gave Martina the day off, which means that she's alone in her house, so there's no one to cook for her. And that kind of sucks, because she's hungry and she can't cook to save her life.

Screw it, she's going to The Hub, and she's going to bury herself in fat girl's food, just for today.

People always say that food's the best way to heal a broken heart.

She quickly changed out of her favorite nightie and went to the bathroom to make herself presentable for the day. It doesn't matter if she's only going to the Hub to buy some food to eat at home, Jackie Burkhart is not a slob, she might be sad, but she still has her pride, she would never leave her house looking less than perfect.

When she was done, she took the Lincoln keys (who cares if she's only fifteen and isn't legally allowed to drive?) and drove to the local teen hangout place.

She ordered herself a burger (and fries, and a milkshake, and a large soda, and a hotdog, but who cares?) and leaned against the counter to wait for her order. She slipped Frank an extra 10 dollar bill, so she knew it wouldn't take long.

Then she heard it. She heard him.

He was sitting with his friends, the redhead, the geek, the handsome doofus, and the foreigner, and they were laughing, a lot.

If her heart was broken before, then the shattered pieces just turned into dust. She spent the last 5 days crying, and he was laughing as if nothing happened between them.

She wanted to go over to him, to confront him, to yell at him, but she didn't. He made himself pretty clear, he doesn't want anyone to know about her existence.

"Food's ready," Frank said loudly, and she lowered her head. She didn't want Steven to see her "One double cheeseburger, one large portion of fries, one hotdog, one chocolate milkshake, and one large soda. Damn, are you really going to eat this whole thing alone?"

"I did not pay you to ask questions" Jackie hissed, grabbing her takeout and quickly leaving the crappy establishment, hoping that she went unnoticed by Steven.

But he saw her, she knew that because she could hear his footsteps as he ran after her. She didn't turn back, she didn't want to talk to him, being rejected once was humiliating enough, and she didn't want to hear whatever lame excuse he has.

"Jackie… Jackie, wait!" She heard him saying.

She walked faster, damn her for parking so far away!

Then she felt his gentle hand grabbing her wrist, and she couldn't run from him anymore. She turned around to face him, and he looked… pained.

"I just… I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry" He said, and she knew he was being honest "I didn't want things to end this way"

"Yeah, okay. Can I go now?"

"Damn, Jackie…" He muttered, running his hands through his face nervously "I don't want you to fucking hate me, alright? This… This is for the best, that way you won't get hurt"

"Steven, I get it, your mom's a bitch" She said "But I don't see how this can stop us from being together!"

"How can you not see it, Jackie?" He said. He looked around, and before she knew it, he was dragging her to the alley behind the Hub "Edna fucking hates me, alright? If she knew about you, she would make my life a living hell, and chances are she'd try to hurt you to get to me"

She sighed "Be honest with me, Steven. Do you really think she'd hurt me?"

"Yeah" He answered honestly

"Okay, then nobody needs to know," Jackie said "We can keep this a secret, we can hide it from her, from your friends, from everyone… I just want to be with you, Steven. Do you want to be with me? Because… mmmph"

Hyde interrupted her by cupping her face in his hands and kissing her passionately, making it clear what his answer was.

She was taken by surprise, but responded to the kiss immediately, with equal fervor.

They smiled softly at each other after they broke their kiss.

"We'll need to keep this under wraps for now," He said, his thumb stroking her cheek gently "No one can know about us, okay?"

"Okay…" She said, wrapping her arms around his waist and hugging him tight "I missed you"

"I missed you too, doll" He replied, wrapping his arms around her as well "More than I'd like to admit"

"Let's get out of here," She said, giving him the car keys "I just bought a lot of food and there's no way in hell I'll manage to eat everything by myself"

He pecked her lips "Anything you want"

A/N: The stargazing was inspired by "The Queen of All My Dreams", an amazing story written by springsteenicious. Reading that story actually inspired me to go stargazing a few times myself, and I really wanted to write J/H stargazing together in one of my stories after that. Seriously though, you should totally check out "The Queen of All My Dreams" if you haven't, it's a beautiful story that got me hooked from the start to finish.

Anyways, I am going to post the second part of this tomorrow, so hang in there. Lots of love xx
