Carrie White and her daemon, Edward, lived most miserable lives. Carrie's extremist mother, Margaret White, and her daemon, Sampson, had abused and tortured them for most of their days. Every day the pair would endure physical and mental torture both at home as well as at school.
Edward spent most of his time in the form of a small turtle, hiding from the taunts and jeers of other people and their daemons. At home Carrie would often be beaten by Margaret while Edward was attacked by Sampson in his scruffy cat form over some minor act which was considered 'sinful' in the parent's eyes. The duo had, unfortunately, never known a moments peace in their lives.
