When Kitri woke, it was in the arms of Loki as she was used to seeing him. She smiled pushing a strand of his messy raven black hair out of his sleeping face.
His expression showed a hint of frustration, as if he was having a bad dream, and she decided to slip out of bed to brew a relaxing potion with some of the Asgardian ingredients she gathered. It would be nice to have on hand even if she did not end up using it on him.
Loki's nightmare escalated quickly when she left his arms, no longer subconsciously calmed by her warmth.
He saw that the Avengers had failed to stop or even slow Thanos. Midgard completely destroyed, streets covered in debris of buildings. Countless bodies in piles on top of each other in gruesome hills of rotting flesh and broken bones.
The sight before him slowly switched to his home realm, almost all of his people dead and the few living were sobbing over the crumpled carcasses of their loved ones mangled in front of them. He ran into the castle, slower than he thought possible as the streets stretched before him and elongated no matter how much faster he tried to run.
As he discovered Odin dead in the throne room, he felt a sudden hand on his shoulder and turned to see Thor looking at him with the coldest expression he had ever seen. The light in his eyes that was present even when they fought on Midgard was completely gone.
"You are to blame for all this. All of the Midgardians, almost all of our people, and even the Avengers. All gone, thanks to you!" Thor spoke in a low voice, anger growing stronger with each word.
Loki's mind briefly wondered in slight horror to Kitri. "Is she also..." Loki couldn't finish his thought.
"Yes, Loki! Thanos strangled her himself, and you have caused all of this! Half of all beings from all of the nine realms!" Thor spat.
Loki sprang up in bed violently, breaking out of his nightmare.
He was covered in sweat, breathing heavily as he looked around his room desperately. He sighed in relief upon seeing Kitri on the other side of his room glancing over at him with concern.
He did not believe he had any particularly strong attachment to her, and was confused about why the mention of her slipped into his nightmare. Yet it was pleasant to see a face he recognized.
She was sitting cross legged in front of her cauldron while a glowing yellow liquid brewed. She began to push herself up to her feet, but he waved her off dismissively.
"Nothing to worry about, my sweet. Just a nightmare..." He dropped his head into his hands, covering his face in frustration.
Kitri leaned over her cauldron to pour the potion into a few vials, and brought one with her as she went to go sit by him in bed. "Here. You do not have to drink it, just smell it at least." She offered, removing the small cork out of the vial and reaching it out toward him.
He looked at the vial, then up at her before taking it and wafting some of the scent coming out of the opening towards his nose and inhaling deeply.
Loki let out a long sigh, some of the awful images from the nightmare already slowly fading. "It smells similar to the scent of my mother's perfume... and something else. Something very fresh, like a minty breeze or freshly cleaned sheets." He said quietly as he felt his body relax.
Kitri showed a bewildered smile. "Interesting..."
Loki looked at her with a raised eyebrow. "What is?" He asked as he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her closer against him.
"I am very familiar with the scent of this potion, but it has changed. Usually with anything I could find in Midgard, the smell stays the same with some light changes in the underlying tones of it depending on your preference." She said while looking up at him. "I would always smell a hint of a smoky oakwood... It seems that the Asgardian ingredients make this effect much more powerful. The full scent seems changed to the one that relaxes you the most."
Loki grinned as Kitri sniffed her potion and closed her eyes in content. "Mmhm... Like a campfire, and some very northern forest kind of smells. Like pine and birch sap."
"After all you have been through, I am quite surprised the smell of smoke of any sort does not send you running." Loki joked with a chuckle.
"I will leave this one for you." Kitri said as she placed the cork back into the vial before setting it on the nightstand next to his sode. "I brewed a few, but do not drink it if you have anything productive you need to get done. If you have time to relax, it will give you some true bliss for a handful of hours. As far as the other comment, there was no wood where I was. Just burning flesh, sulfur, and molten lava."
She leaned gains him and he moved one of his hands to gently play with her hair. "Sounds dreadful..."
"It was... It took an unspeakable number of these to get me through much of the aftermath once I came to Midgard and began brewing. You would not have recognized me back then... In fact, I think I still make Natasha uncomfortable at times because of how I used to be."
Loki chuckled in delight at the thought of it, and gently poked Kitri's cheek. "Placing fear into the Black Widow? Quite interesting."
It seemed that Loki saying her superhero name triggered something in Kitri's mind, and her eyes lit up. "Oh! I just remembered, I will have to make use of some of my time here today. Some of the Avengers wish to meet with you to check up on how you have been behaving around here, and I would genuinely like to meet with some of the women of magic you spoke of."
Loki laid back down while playfully pulling her on top of him. "I did suggest that, did I not?" He said with a sigh. "I may be kicking myself for making that suggestion now, since following it means you have to leave my chambers. Perhaps we can skip all of that nonsense and I can train you in magic instead?" He asked playfully.
Kitri looked down at him, some of her hair falling beside his face and tickling his cheeks. His mischievous smile never left as he winked at her.
"You really are going to force me to be the responsible one?" She groaned while rolling over onto her back next to him. "I would love to stay with you, and have you tutor me in... all sorts of things."
He bit his lip, his thoughts running wild with memories from their previous nights.
"That does not change the fact that you have responsibilities today." Kitri continued. "I will see you later tonight."
Loki furrowed his eyebrows. "Why not skip those meetings? If they wish to speak with me they can do so on my own time."
Kitri tried to look more serious through a smile that was creeping on her face. She gave him a soft kiss that he had no intention of breaking as he pulled her tighter against him. Once she finally got free, she responded. "And have me suffer the wrath of the Black Widow and some of the others on your behalf for keeping you? I think not."
Before he could protest further she wiggled out of his embrace and stood, smoothing out the wrinkles in her robes with her hands.
"Well as a taste of our future lessons then." Loki said as he sat up, letting his eyes shamelessly wander over her body. "Here is the first..."
Her robes were black and well fitting, with a black lace corset around her slim waist, a long elegant skirt, and a top that highlighted the fullness of her chest. He used his magic to change the color underneath the lace of the corset along with some detailing on her robes to his favorite deep forest green.
She followed his gaze to her top and then spun around to look at herself in the mirror.
"A lovely improvement, if I don't say so myself." Loki said proudly while taking a sarcastically thoughtful pose. He was still lounging in bed, silk blankets covering right below his waist.
Kitri spun back around to face him "I am most certainly inclined to agree. A lovey improvement, Loki. I will see you tonight, my god of mischief."
She collected her things and left his chambers, leaving Loki laying wrapped in his golden sheets, grinning like an idiot.
