Vera woke up to a loud yell, and knew right away who it belonged to. She groaned, knowing that it meant Varian caught something on fire, again.
She got to her feet and took a few steps with her usual glide over to the rope. Vera gave it a good tug then the curtain separating her 'room' and Varian's lab was drawn back.
She groaned again, seeing that this time one of the cheap beakers caught fire, and Varian was already grabbing the (still experimental) fire extinguisher. And for the first time, out of the other attempts, it surprisingly worked. Varian sighed in relief, "Ehem" Vera tapped her foot, catching her twin's attention.
Varian let out chuckle, "uh, good morning."
Vera crossed her arms and Varian crossed his in response, the two thirteen year olds just stood there as if having a telepathic argument.
Finally Vera started to walk out of the lab "I'm gonna get breakfast."
Vera sat on the stairs right outside the entrance, she fished an apple core into the bushes knowing that one raccoon would get it. She watched the town's folk go about their day, she watched as a bunch of friends ran by, most likely playing tag. Vera smiled, wondering what it was like to have one.
Sure, she had Varian, but he was her brother, twin to be precise, so it doesn't really count.
Vera got up, and decided to take a little stroll through town.
She soon found herself walking through the forest, she looked up at the sun and smiled, but she was soon consumed by thought. "Eighteen years... are they ever going to find her?" Vera said to herself, knowing that the lost princess birthday was tomorrow.
She then heard something that caught her off guard, she stood still for a moment letting it reach her ears. It was... Music?
Vera walked towards the source of the sound, which came from the Snuggly Duckling. She titles her head in confusion before opening the door.
Her eyes widened taking in every detail of what was happening, she took a step in closing the door behind her. "Call us brutal, sadistic-" the thugs sang, she then notice a girl with a lot, and she means a lot! Of hair. Vera then saw a theif, no doubt Flynn Rider on top of a barrel going through fire. And as if on cue she noticed one of his posters on the door, and this time unlike the other ones, his nose was really long.
"Varian's copy looks a lot better" Vera chuckled, ignoring the torch that went other her head.
Soon the whole musical number was done, which was music to Vera's ears. But then the door was slammed opened, going through Vera in the process "I've found the guards." She took that as her cue to leave
When Vera walked back into the lab she saw Varian holding a beaker and carefully squeezing a dropper, a mischievous smile spreader across her face.
"Okay Varian, you've got this, just one drop, just one little-" "SURPRISE!" Vera yelled, jumping on him. Which caused him to do more then a drop, poof.
The twin's blinked, seeing that now they were covered in a pink powder. "Well, that went well" Vera said, brushing herself off, "Define well" Varian glared. Which only made her laugh.
Today was the day, a day of celebration, a day of- Well, celebrating a birthday for the lost Princess.
Vera and Varian were in the city where the bigger celebration was. Every year they would do this, go into the city, separate from Quirin, then have a blast together, but still not able to say Vera was there.
The twins just left Uncle Month's sweet shop, they were walking around when Vera's face lit up "Ohhh, mine is ganache!" Varian couldn't help but laugh. "What?" She asked, with a chocolate coated mouth, he gestured to her face and she locked the chocolate smudges.
They soon came across a bunch of people dancing, and Vera saw the same girl from the pub.
She then gave Varian a good shove into the dancing, it didn't take long for him to get a partner. Vera laughed as she danced independently, soon grabbing her brother to dance with and guided them out of the dancing.
"That was great" she laughed, "Don't push me into something like that again" Varian demanded, still catching his breath.
The two were soon sitting on the docks, with a horse right next to them. One of the apples it was eating began to roll off the dock, but Vera managed to catch it and hold it out for him. The horse took it and munched away, "it's nice that some animals can see you" Varian smiled, "yeah, I just wish more than one person can see me."
Vera stared at the water.
Varian smiled softly, "Don't worry sis... Someday, we'll find a way to make you seen" all she did was nod in response.
She secretly looked in her lantern making sure her letter was still attached. It was.
Vera looked up seeing the lanterns be released, "It's time" she semi sang.
Varian and Vera then released theirs, watching it float up and join the others. "Hopefully that letter will be found by somebody who can help me" she thought.
Once the lanterns reached the wall, a light breeze blew Vera's lantern in a different direction.
In Vardaros, Stalyan sat in her room sharpening a knife until she saw something right outside her window.
She opened it and saw one of the lanterns the people of Corona would release for the princess. "How did this end up here?" Once Stalyan grabbed it a letter fell out and into her lap.
"Oh? What's this" she then heard her dad call her name. "I'll get to it later" she then walked out of the room.
