Eugene quickly pulled Varian outside with Vera following them.
"Those things down there are dangerous!" Eugene told the young alchemist, "Seriously, I really thought this one wouldn't blow up like the last few" Vera mumbled. "Dangerous? No, they're not dangerous, I- I have adjusted my calculations for every possible outcome. The margin of error i-is less than .56 percent or- now, wait, was it .57?" Varian explained, whispering the last part.
"I don't know! Look, Varian" Eugene said as he put his hands on Varian's shoulders, "I think you're a good kid, a-a-a smart kid, and you got great intentions. But I'm asking you- pleading with you- for the love of my life, and your entire village, to please shut off those machines until a seisma-quake-atologist can come inspect 'em! Please! Do it for Team Awesome," Eugene asked.
Varian looked at Vera, who nodded her head with a humble expression.
Then the was another loud rumbling, "Well, I suppose I can turn them down a bit."
The twins then started running towards the shed, once inside Vera quickly opened the trap door. But right before she could followed Varian down the ladder he yelled, "Vera, wait! We should spilt up if we're gonna shut them all off!" Vera quickly nodded her head before running off to the other machines.
Vera was now running in towards the last three, by now the rumbles were a lot worse.
She then noticed Varian already a head of her, but someone none other than Cassandra grabbed his wrist.
"Listen, kid! We gotta get outta here!" She yelled, "No, no! Ugh! No, I've got three pumps to shot off, and I can't let this happen again!" At that moment there was an explosion and a large metal pipe was sent flying through the air and landed on top of them. And then everything stop.
Vera froze, heart pounding in her chest, she quickly ran towards where the pipe stood, "Varian!" Vera yelled.
Right then, Cassandra climbed out before pulling Varian out as well, "Thank you... M'lady" Varian said with a big smile. Vera couldn't help but laugh once she heard him, especially since Cassandra's reaction was priceless.
The three then turned their heads when they all heard a yell.
"Varian! Varian!" Quirin called, lifting up on of the fallen doors.
"Uh oh, it's my dad" Varian told Cass before climbing down, "Oh crap, he's dead" Vera said.
Once Quirin spotted them he ran towards Varian, "Are you okay? What happened?" Varian just lowered his head in shame, "Dad, I'm sorry."
Almost immediately a look of disappointment took o we his expression, "Not again, Varian" Quirin said, shaking his head.
"But, Dad-"
"Is everybody okay?" Quirin asked as he walked away.
"Quirin, what do we do? It was terrible" Vera overheard one of the villagers say.
Vera walked over to her brother who now stood alone, since Cass went to go check on the princess. "We should probably start cleaning up" Varian suggested.
It did take hours, but they finally finished cleaning up, and the twins were just strolling by the fence when Varian broke the silence.
"Hey, Vev."
"Hmph?"
"Why do I feel like we have bad luck?" Varian asked, which made Vera stop in he r Travis and look at him. "What makes you think that?" "That" he said while pointing at the semi destroyed town.
Vera sighed, "Varian, we don't have bad luck, sure I'm not seen, we don't have friends and 90% of our machines blew up-" "Your not making me feel any better Vera" Varian interrupted. "Let me finish" Vera replied, "But we have been making some successful inventions and I'm pretty sure we just made three new friends" she said as she gestured at the three that were riding off on horseback.
Varian smiled, "Yeah, I guess we did," this made Vera smile too, but she then noticed something by the fence post, "Well look who we have here."
The twins walked over to see the oh so familiar raccoon stuck in Varian's trap.
Varian knelt down and poured his solution on the purple goop freeing the raccoon, once the raccoon realized it was free he looked up at the two before onto Varian's shoulders. "You just can't stay away, can you?" Vera chuckled, the raccoon chittered in response which made the two laugh.
Varian started letting the animal's head until he had an idea, "Hey, why don't we just keep him" Vera looked at her brother then at the raccoon, "Well I guess he'll be okay with it since he won't leave us alone." Varian nodded, "What do you think" he asked the raccoon, who was clearly listening to their conversation.
He chittered happily.
"In that case, welcome to the family" Vera said as she scratched his head, "But you're gonna be the one who has to tell dad" she told her brother, "Of course, who else would tell him."
Vera just laughed and lightly punched him on the shoulder, "Come on, let's go home."
