Mikoto was staring. She'd been walking down the stairs saying hi to Obito as he walked in the door, but when she'd seen Kakashi with him she had frozen. This was understandable. Obito never bought anyone outside of his normal friend group home.
"Hi aunt Mikoto." She was still staring and Kakashi was clearly getting uncomfortable. "This is Kakashi."
"Ohh! From the shop!" Now she'd placed him, she started smiling. "Obito, why didn't you tell me he'd be coming over?"
"It was a spontaneous thing. He's gonna stay the night." In a different room, as far as possible from me. No way was he sleeping near the dickhead.
"Ohh! I'll get the inflatable mattress out. Do you want me to set it up or can you do it?"
"No! He can sleep on the sofa." He wasn't going to have the douche near him for too long. Mikoto walked over and slapped him round the head. "Ow! What the hell?!"
"He's your guest! You can't make him sleep on the sofa!" When she turned back to Kakashi she was all smiles. "I'm making pizza for dinner if that's ok?"
"That's fine, thank you." Obito couldn't help but be shocked.
"What the hell? Are you actually being nice?" He'd forgotten how wrathful Mikoto could be.
"Obito!" She slapped him on the arm this time. "Don't be so damn rude!"
"Ow! Ok, I'm sorry!" Damn psychotic aunt. It was no wonder that Kakashi looked so surprised. When she disappeared Obito sighed.
"I'll show you my room then." It was pretty annoying but he'd have to put the asshole in his bed or face the wrath of aunt Mikoto.
His room was full of crap as usual, with magazines, DVDs, and games covering the floor. These were joined by the multitudes of clothes spilling from his cupboard. A few empty plates were scattered around and the bed was unmade. It was just as Obito liked it.
"You actually live in this?" Kakashi was less impressed. From his point of view it was tantamount to living on a rubbish dump.
"We're teenage boys, we're supposed to live in piles of crap." Very few people their age actually kept their room clean. In Obito's view it was a waste of time that could be spent doing something else.
"I don't want to sleep in this crap."
"Well you can always go home." Obito smiled sweetly at him and received a scowl. Perhaps he would leave.
"I can deal with it." He sounded pretty annoyed. The problem was that both of them were too proud to back down. "You're sleeping on the floor."
"No I'm not, I'm sleeping on the sofa." He wanted the space and he didn't like having people he didn't know watching him sleep. He had trust issues.
"Well that's a relief." Smug prick.
"I'm going to help my aunt." He was escaping. He fled to the front room where Itachi and Sasuke were in the living room playing some kind of board game. Damn brats and their overly smart ways.
"Gaaah!" The brothers were so used to their cousin's dramatic outbursts they didn't even look over when Obito threw himself onto the floor.
"What's wrong?" Itachi was a nicer person and so cared more about his cousin's wellbeing.
"Kakashi is staying the night." He kept his voice low so the masked one wouldn't be able to hear him.
"Isn't that the guy you hate?" Sasuke gave him a funny look. "Why'd you invite him round?"
"I don't know! I'm an idiot!" Sasuke and Itachi looked at each other. "And don't you dare agree with me!"
"What are you going to do?" Itachi was staring at him.
"Avoid him as much as possible. As much as Mikoto will let me anyway."
Although he was too much of an idiot to join in with them, they did at least let him sit and watch their game. It was pretty harsh to leave Kakashi alone in a strange house and when Mikoto came in to tell them dinner was ready and saw him sitting there, he received another slap.
Rubbing the back of his head, he slumped up the stairs to get Kakashi. The masked one was perched on the bed looking bored and kind of lost. As Obito knew Kakashi was not capable of human emotion, he pushed this observation aside.
"Dinner's ready." Not that he'll eat it. There was no way he would take his mask off in front of the assembled Uchiha family.
"Fine." He actually deemed to come down which was unexpected. Obito wasn't sure why they bothered to eat at the table when they all just stuffed their faces with anything within reach. Probably it was just one of aunt Mikoto's quirks.
Kakashi sat next to him at the table opposite Itachi and Sasuke. Itachi was polite and so left him alone but Sasuke was staring. He was only a child and so couldn't be held accountable for his actions. Mikoto had covered the table with a load of random food, as usual when they had company.
"Ok boys, help yourselves." Only Kakashi didn't dive straight in, a fact not unnoticed by Mikoto.
"Not hungry Kakashi?" She was used to being around boys who dived onto anything edible.
"Not exactly."
"He doesn't take the mask off in front of people." Obito felt obliged to explain.
"You can have your food in Obito's room later then."
"Thank you." It was weird seeing Kakashi being so polite that Obito ended up staring.
"What?" Kakashi scowled at him.
"Nothing!" He didn't dare be too rude in front of Mikoto. She would kick his ass even if Kakashi was fully deserving of it.
"Why have you got a mask on? Have you got a scar or something?" Sasuke just came out with it.
"Sasuke!"
"What? I'm just asking!"
"Sorry about this Kakashi."
"It's fine." He was being so polite to Mikoto it was scary.
While the others were finishing, Kakashi piled up a plate with food and disappeared meaning Obito could finally relax. The masked guy always made him feel so tense. Sadly his enjoyment was not to last.
"Go and sit with him then." Mikoto gestured to the stairs.
"What?"
"He's your guest!"
"He also hates me." And the feeling is bloody mutual.
"When someone is in your house, you treat them with respect. Now get your ass up those stairs."
"Ugh!" He was not happy with this. If only he hadn't had that momentary lapse in sanity, he wouldn't have to put up this crap. Kakashi had just managed to pull the mask back up when Obito opened the door.
"What do you want?"
"My aunt made me come up here." He went and dug out a bean bag from the corner and slumped on it, grabbing a magazine as he went. "Don't freak out, I don't care what you're doing. I've already seen your face anyway."
Kakashi was clearly reluctant but after deciding that there were no hidden cameras he stopped caring. Obito couldn't help but glance to confirm that yes, Kakashi's face was pretty normal. The only thing that was odd about it was that he had a mole just under his lip.
"…Why do you bother with the mask?" Kakashi scowled. He could see his mouth turning downwards slightly at one side. It added to his look of dislike. "You don't need it."
"That's your opinion." He didn't rush to cover his face like he usually would though.
"Some people, not me, would consider you attractive." Kakashi raised his eyebrow. "Like I said, that wouldn't include me."
"Sure it wouldn't." Obito was not pleased with the smirk that had appeared.
"I don't find you attractive!" He could hear Sasuke laughing downstairs and reddened. "Shut up Shitsuke!"
"Screw you!"
"If you weren't attracted to me," continued Kakashi. "Why were you interested in getting the mask off?" This was a good point.
"Because it pissed me off!"
"Why?" This made him pause. He didn't really have a reason, it just irritated him.
"Just because! I don't know!" He didn't like the level of arrogance being displayed. Kakashi finished eating and pulled the mask back up.
"It's kind of sad that you're attracted to me."
"I am not! You're a narcissistic hateful dick. The only reason I talked to you was because of Rin."
"Sure."
"And you're avoiding the question! Why do you wear the damn mask?"
"Why do you want to know?" Kakashi glared at him.
"Because I put up with you being a dick all week!"
"You put up with me?! I have to put up with you being a jackass!"
"A jackass?"
"You heard me." They scowled at each other from opposite ends of the room.
"Why do you wear the mask?" If he had to put up with Kakashi in his sanctuary he wanted to know.
"You saw my dad, you should be able to work it out." Kakashi gave him a look of hate.
"Your dad?" He remembered the white haired guy swaggering down the street. He did look a lot like- Oh!
"Do you get it?"
"Wait, so you don't like looking like your dad?" This seemed a pretty weird thing to be embarrassed about.
"Yes." Kakashi spoke as if talking to a particularly slow child.
"…That's a stupid reason." A pretty harsh way of putting it but this was his opinion.
"I don't think you understand."
"I do. That's why I think it's stupid." Kakashi scowled at him. "Well what do you expect? Who cares if you look like your dad?"
"It matters when your dad is a drunken asshole!"
"And?"
"I don't want people associating me with him."
"Oh." This was more understandable but still foolish. "But why does that matter at all? You're you and he's him, what he does doesn't matter."
"But people know I'm his son."
"Doesn't mean you're also a drunken asshole does it?" Kakashi stared at him. "I'm just saying, you shouldn't hide yourself because of what your dad does…. I'm being nice you asshole!" He wasn't even sure why.
"It's a pretty poor attempt." Kakashi had raised an eyebrow.
"That's the last time I try to be nice to you!" And he stormed out of his room, slamming the door behind him. Had had to sleep on the sofa anyway.
Sasuke and Itachi had returned to the front room after dinner and so he jumped on the sofa behind them.
"Ow! Stop it!" Sasuke didn't appreciate having his cousin's feet pushed up against him. He was nicer to Itachi as he was actually a decent human being.
"I'm sleeping here tonight so screw off."
"Goodnight then." Itachi leant back on his cousin.
"Hey! Not what I meant!"
"We're watching a programme." Obito peered round Itachi's back.
"Ohh crimewatch." This was something he could enjoy.
"Finished your fight with your boyfriend yet?" Sasuke was given a slap.
"He's a dick."
"Because he loves you." The little shit (suke) dodged another slap and ran off cackling.
"When's the wedding?" Itachi managed to look completely neutral.
"Not you too!" Damn smart arse cousins. No respect for their elders.
