Working
Disclaimer: Naruto isn't mine.
As Obito had sorted everything with Kakashi last night, he was no longer worried about seeing the guy at work. What he was worried about was the smile Anko had on her face as he walked into the classroom. She could not be trusted when she was doing that smile.
"Good morning my lovely young friend."
"I am not doing it, I will never do it, fuck you." It was good to be prepared ahead of time for whatever it was that she was planning.
"How rude! Anyone would think you don't trust me."
"Anyone would be right." Such was the dynamic of their friendship. Anko made a harrumphing noise.
"It was a nice thing as well." This was something he very much doubted.
"What was it then?" Just because he wasn't going to do it, didn't mean he couldn't be interested.
"I need you to go and kill the physics teacher for me."
"…"
"Yes, that was a joke. Thanks for laughing." Obito rolled his eyes and started rifling through his bag so he could ignore her. "Ok, I need you to provide me with a distraction in geography so I can do something."
"What?"
"My homework."
"…Really? No way can I distract her for that long." The most he could do was have her yell at him for a few minutes.
"You're good at this, I'm sure you'll work something out." Obito groaned. So much pressure. Luckily it was the third lesson of the day and so he had time to do something about it. Sadly even though he thought long and hard, he couldn't quite work out how to fix things without getting into serious trouble.
As he wandered the hallway on the way to the lesson, attempting to work out why Anko couldn't just do her work in the breaks like everyone else, he walked into someone. This person was Kakashi.
"What are you doing?" This was said in a way that was about thirty percent less antagonistic than usual, which was a good sign.
"Thinking." And this had ruined his train of thought. "…Wait a second. You're smart."
"Yes." Kakashi wasn't impressed with Obito's astute skills of observation.
"How would you distract a teacher to give someone time to do their homework?"
"You didn't bother to do your work then?" From his tone he didn't sound surprised.
"It wasn't me! It was Anko and for some reason she won't do it now." Probably because she's slacking off.
"Let her get in trouble then."
"She's my friend." Clearly Kakashi had no clue what friendship entailed. Plus he was a self-preserving asshole. It was no wonder he didn't get on with people.
"You could set off the fire alarm?" Obito froze.
"Why didn't I think of that?" It was such a great idea too.
"Because you're a moron." Kakashi went to leave but Obito gripped his arm. "…Ok, what are you doing?"
"Help me." He would probably get caught if he did it alone and get in majorly big trouble.
"I don't owe you anything."
"I'll… pay you?"
"…You could buy my lunch?"
"Deal!" He would make Anko pay for both their lunches to make up for it.
"Follow me." Kakashi turned and headed towards the science labs. "Ok, wait a sec."
Obito stood awkwardly by the door whilst Kakashi ducked into the lab. Technically they weren't allowed to be in the labs during break but most students tended to duck in and screw about when they could. All Obito could hope was that they wouldn't get noticed since teachers did get pissy if they saw anyone doing it. It was less than a minute later that Kakashi appeared and started guiding Obito towards the language classrooms.
"Ok what's the plan?" Obito had waited until they were in a quieter area. Kakashi calmly reached into his pocket and pulled out a rubber glove. Noting the confused expression on Obito's face he sighed.
"They leave ink on your hands when you press the alarm."
"Oh!" This was something he never would've thought of.
"Bet you're glad you asked me now."
"Maybe…" He was of course but he wasn't going to admit it. The guy had a huge ego already, it didn't need inflation.
"Luckily half of this school has no cameras on account of the fact that it is shit, so no one should see." Yet another thing Obito wouldn't have checked for.
"Shall we do this one?" He pointed to one near the exit and Kakashi shook his head.
"There's a better place." Apparently this was next to the boy's toilet on the second floor.
"Why here?"
"You'll find out." He made sure there were no witnesses before handing Obito the glove. The siren was stupidly loud and he started grimacing as it started going off. The glove was covered in ink and it was hard to peel it off without getting any on his hand.
Kakashi quickly took it from him and headed into the toilet. This seemed a strange thing to do and he later reappeared after a flushing noise sounded.
"Getting rid of the evidence," he said after realising that the other boy hadn't understood.
"….You are really good at this."
"I know." They soon re-joined the crowds of people flooding out of the school. Anko really owed them for this.
-Page Break-
"You're late." Kakashi was scowling at the door as he entered.
"I had to get stuff!" He was carrying a bag filled with random snack foods and a pair of hamburgers from the shop down the street. Anko hadn't bothered to buy them lunch so instead she'd been forced to buy them a pile of junk foods.
"Here." He dumped it on the desk in front of Kakashi. "Our reward from Anko."
"What happened to lunch?"
"She sucks." Kakashi shrugged and started rummaging through the bag.
It was a very satisfying half hour they spent sampling the finest that the nearest supermarket had to offer.
"Thanks for your help by the way."
"You would've failed miserably on your own."
"I… really wish I could argue with that." The teachers had been really pissed off that someone had forced the firemen to come and so had threatened the cuprit(s) with the most severe punishment possible.
As no one had come forward, they had checked everyone's hands, pretty much taking up the entire lesson. Anko had been pretty thrilled with this near-miss.
"Why didn't she get us better quality food?"
"Because she spent all her money on trash mags."
"Really?"
"Don't ask." After yesterday's one, she had bought loads after school and stayed up half the night devouring them. This was why she had ended up missing the homework.
"All your friends are as weird as you."
"Screw you." It was ok for him to think and say this but not others. It was then that a sudden realisation occurred. "You're not wearing your mask!" Kakashi paused mid mouthful to stare at him.
"You've only just noticed?" He shouldn't have been surprised. The Uchiha wasn't known for noticing things around him. He was so oblivious it was irritating.
"But… But you're out here!" Anyone could walk in and easily see him.
"No one comes in here and I can just pull it back up."
"I guess… But… I'm here!" As this was surely a problem before, he didn't get why it was ok now.
"It's nothing you haven't seen before." And yet another good point.
"So you don't mind me seeing you without the mask?"
"You're not the worst person in the world. And you're an idiot so your opinion doesn't matter." That asshole.
"Did you just insult me and compliment me in the same sentence?"
"Maybe."
"Just… What… ARG!" This had led to a severe malfunction in his brain.
Once he had finished Kakashi pulled the mask back up and grabbed his book out of the alcove underneath the counter. He also unearthed a piece of paper that fell out onto the floor.
As he leant to pick it up, he noticed what was on it and stared. This stare turned into a scowl which he transferred to Obito.
"What?" Kakashi simply handed him the sheet. On it was a chibified drawing of what was clearly Obito and Kakashi. They two of them were smiling and holding hands and surrounded by little hearts. Underneath the words 'best friends!' had been written using bright yellow pen.
"…This was Deidara wasn't it?" It looked like one of his creations.
"Why the hell did he draw that?"
"Well he does watch the security tapes." It was likely he'd seen them being decent with each other yesterday.
Kakashi turned to look at the camera overheard and scowled at it. He then raised his middle finger and held it in that direction for a short while.
"At least he didn't make us look too terrible."
"He's a dick." Kakashi soon got rid of the picture in the nearest bin.
"Don't do that! He worked really hard on it!" It was in full colour after all.
"Do you want it?"
"No!" For a start it was a picture of lies.
"Then leave it." As Kakashi settled back down, Obito noticed another drawing tucked on the notice board. It was put on in a subtle way but once you noticed it, it was hard to forget. It was of Kakashi, holding a book and with a smug expression on his face. He was also sitting on a sharp pole, the imagery of which wasn't hard to understand.
"What?"
"Nothing!" Obito had to look away so he wouldn't start laughing. He wasn't going to tell Kakashi about this one. Subtly (or as subtle as was possible for him), he turned round and flashed a quick thumbs up at the camera.
The cover image for this was drawn by e-pon on Deviantart for my birthday. The link to the full image is: art/Obishi-559852869 Look at her stuff because it is awesome and adorable :3 Thanks for reading and I hope you liked.
