Working

Disclaimer: Naruto isn't mine.

Obito didn't realise at first that Sasuke was looking at him. He was staring into his older cousin's room, his mouth hanging open at the scene in front of him. When Obito did notice this, he glared.

"What?"

"You're cleaning your room!"

"So?" And now he was going bright red.

"You never clean up." This was not unreasonable since he never bothered keeping clean.

"Get out!" Unfortunately for his cousin, he was in a bad mood and so flung a shirt at him. Sasuke fled before anything more dangerous could be sent his way.

It had been a long and stressful week since they'd had exams inflicted on them and Obito had ended up spending all of his free time revising in the library or at work with Kakashi. The masked one had even made an effort not to insult him; even when he made really stupid mistakes. And now it was Saturday. He'd been at work with Kakashi all morning and had told the boy to give him an hour before rushing back home. He'd slept in Obito's bed before and so obviously knew how much of a shithole it was. For some reason Obito felt obliged to clean up before having him around.

Normally he didn't care who saw his junkyard but he was feeling nervous about having Kakashi here again. This bothered him a lot and so as a result, he was tetchy and embarrassed. His mood worsened when he saw Mikoto and Itachi peering round the door.

"I can't believe it."

"Finally, my Obito is becoming a good house husband."

"Get out you freaks!" He grabbed the nearest long object (in this case a foam swimming noodle) and charged, meaning they scattered. He chased them down the stairs and attempted to swat Mikoto on the head.

"Obi, your friend's here." Sasuke's words made him freeze. Slowly he turned his head to see that Kakashi was standing in the open doorway next to Sasuke, both wearing identical expressions. Neither looked impressed by his behaviour.

"…Hi Kakashi."

"Obito." There was a smirk under the mask and Obito really wished there was some kind of pit he could throw himself into. Tossing the float to one side, he attempted to regain some semblance of normalcy.

"…Want to come upstairs?" There was no reason for him to be awkward. They weren't close but they rarely had a problem talking frankly. He and Kakashi were attempting to get to know each other a bit more and Obito wanted to avoid being douche to him.

"Alright."

"I'm so glad you've made another friend Obito." His aunt was a troll.

"Go parent someone else!" She did have two others to annoy after all.

Although he hadn't finished his seemingly endless task, the floor was now visible and there were no longer old plates on the floor.

"What happened?" Kakashi had only been here once yet he could still remember the trash heap that had been his room.

"What do you mean?"

"You actually cleaned your room."

"Because I felt like it! Just shut up!" He was just giving himself away more but he wasn't quick to think up good excuses.

"You didn't have to clean up just because I was coming round." The smirk was well defined under his mask.

"It wasn't for you, you arrogant prick." And now he needed to change the subject. "Now sit down." He pointed to one of the beanbags he'd managed to unearth.

"They look like they're about to burst."

"Don't be a snobby bastard." Obito pulled out the PlayStation and switched it on. This gave him something to do as a distraction. It was funny to watch Kakashi sitting down on the beanbag. The guy looked ill at ease and unsteady as he lowered himself into the plush thing. Obito had to stifle a laugh; this didn't go down well.

"Did you bake a cake too Lindsay?" Obito threw one of the controls at him and sat on the neighbouring beanbag, pointedly ignoring the comment.

"We're playing halo. We will shoot things. That is all." He wasn't going help him anymore. Kakashi was too damn good at everything; it would be nice to see him failing for once.

This had been part of the plan. Although he was trying to repay him for his help, he did also feel kind of smug. This he could do well and he was looking forward to making Kakashi flustered.

For the first couple of games Kakashi did suck. He didn't look as annoyed about it as Obito expected he would be. Clearly he was patient when it came to these kinds of things. After an hour or so he got to the point where he was at a similar level to Obito.

"This game isn't bad." The Uchiha just stared. It had taken him ages to work out some of the controls.

"…Are you sure you haven't played this before?"

"I've never played any game before." Of course. Stupid genius bastard. It was unfair that the guy could pick up even games so well. There should have been some evening up. "I can see why you do it."

"Really?" There hadn't been an insult. Kakashi did seem genuinely pleased by this game.

"It is kind of fun. Pointless, but fun." Thank god he's not too nice. That would've been weird. There needed to be a hint of the asshole about him.

"They are not pointless."

"They are lacking in a point."

"They're just meant to be fun! You should do something fun every once in a while." The guy just sat around studying; he needed to do other things with his time.

"It's nice that you care."

"Are you bored then?" He couldn't imagine anyone being bored whilst gaming with someone else.

"I never said that." As Kakashi currently had the mask and no clear expression on the visible parts of his face, you couldn't tell what he was thinking. "Do you want to do more?"

"I could do this all day!"

-Page Break-

After three hours of playing, Obito had very mixed feelings. On the plus side, he'd enjoyed playing for so long; the downside was that Kakashi had managed to get a lot better than him. Once Mikoto had brought up a plate of nachos, he had to time to glare at Kakashi properly.

"Stop staring at me." He was unmasked so he had more facial expressions than usual. It was weird to see him sitting so casually without a mask. Apparently he had become used to Obito enough to not care.

"Why are you good at everything?"

"I'm not."

"Aside from being nice." Kakashi gestured with his middle finger. "You know what I mean! You're smart, you're competent. You can work this stuff out easily! And you're attractive!" This last part was loud and he could hear Sasuke starting to laugh from his bedroom.

"I see you've given this a lot of thought." The tip of his mouth was curving upwards slightly on one side.

"Oh shut up. I just meant you're a lucky asshole. All the stupid girls like you." Including one of his best friends.

"Great." Kakashi rolled his eyes.

"What?" He was given an unimpressed look in response.

"It doesn't matter."

"…Are you complaining because girls find you attractive?" This was a weird thing to dislike in his opinion.

"It is a bit of a pain when they throw themselves at you and won't take no for an answer."

"Oh…." As he didn't know what this felt like, it was hard to sympathise. "Why don't you just find a girlfriend? They'll leave you alone then."

"What girlfriend do you suggest?" He pulled the mask up over his mouth and waited.

"The girl you like?"

"And what if I don't like any of them?"

"None of them? There are loads of girls around here, you have to like at least one of them." No matter how fussy you were, there'd be something.

"I've got… different tastes."

"So you're into older women?" He had images of Kakashi feeling up an older housewife.

"You are way off." And now his interest was well and truly piqued.

"Oh my god. Who do you like? Tell me!" Yes he did have trouble hiding it when he was interested.

"Why?"

"Because we're…" It took him a minute to think of the appropriate term. "Acquaintances?"

"That sounds great. 'Acquaintances'." He rolled his eyes.

"Friends then?" They weren't that close but still.

"If you insist."

"So?" He leaned forward in the beanbag, pushing the nachos to one side.

"So…?"

"Who are you into?" He was a gossip.

"No one." Now that was a clear evasion.

"Come on! Tell me!"

"I'm not into anyone! It's just…" Kakashi sighed. "Look, no one knows about this so I don't really want to say."

"Knows about what?" He was confused. He couldn't understand what it was that he was scared of.

"…I'll make a deal with you. You tell me something secret about you, I'll tell you this."

"Umm…" Honestly Obito didn't have many secrets. Anko and Ibiki knew most of them too. All he could think of was one minor thing. "It's not much… But I was the one who broke those toilets last year." Even his friends didn't know the truth.

"That was you? How?" He was trying not to laugh.

"I was trying to flush my exam since it sucked!" Sadly it had been a long paper.

"Wow. You idiot."

"Screw you! Now tell me yours!" He didn't want to dwell on his own idiocy any longer.

"Ok…" Kakashi took a deep breath. "You won't tell anybody right?"

"I won't."

"Right… I… Well… I bat for the other team." This was met with a blank look. "I've never been attracted to a girl ever."

"So you've never met a nice one?"

"Oh for-. I'm gay you moron!" Obito froze.

"Wait… Really?"

"Why would I make it up?" Although scowling, there was a blush appearing round the edges of the mask.

"I guess you have no reason… so you're into guys?"

"Yes."

"Oh…" There was a pause. "And now I see why you're not into Rin."

"Yes."

"…You should just tell people, then the girls will leave you alone." There'd be no reason for them to try then.

"Can you imagine people's reactions? Not everyone accepts it."

"Well screw them, why should you care?" Kakashi didn't normally worry about other people's opinions.

"…So you don't care?"

"About what?"

"Me being gay?"

"Does it matter?"

"No…"

"Then I don't care." If anything this was good. Obito had more of a chance with any females since they couldn't have Kakashi.

"Oh… Um… thanks?" Kakashi wasn't making eye contact.

"For what?"

"For not being weird. I know my dad wouldn't like it so…" It was weird seeing Kakashi being awkward.

"Oh…" Now he felt guilty. He wasn't being nice or anything like that. "It's fine?"

"Just don't tell your friends. I don't want to deal with any bullshit."

"Wait… Have you ever liked any guys?"

"What do you think?"

"Yeah… That was a stupid question." But now he was thinking something else.

I wonder if there's anyone he likes?
