Prompt:

"You and I both got arrested for holding up traffic to let a duck with ducklings cross the road and now we're in the same holding cell" AU

No idea why I just had to write this but I did. I dunno, just for fun so it's not too good. Unbeta'd. Read at your own risk...

"Katniss, look!" Prim exclaims, turning my head sideways (a little too roughly, ouch!) to a...duckling?

"Prim, what?" I ask, bothered that she wanted me to see and I quote a cute little critter because by god that's simply adorably adorable! When I should be driving her to school. Ugh...

"Katnissss..." she whines and I roll my eyes. "The duck and its cute ducklings are stuck in the middle of the road, you gotta help them!" I shouldn't have looked in her eyes because the sight of my baby sister in tears can make me do anything in the world.

She pouts and a tear slips down her eye and I huff, getting out of the beat-up car.

I stalk towards the duck and its fuckin ducklings (and I wonder if I hate them more at that moment than Buttercup because I hate the ugly thing with a burning passion).

As soon as I reach them, a familiar mop of blond curls greets me. Great!

"Katniss," Peeta greets me with a cheerful smile as if he wasn't just crouched in the middle of the road for some bird and its kids.

"Peeta," I say coolly, "any idea how we can get these adorable friends to the other side of the road?" I asked, stressing the word adorable. The sarcasm is lost on him and he smiles widely.

"Actually, I could use some help," he scratches his neck and his cheeks redden and I have to admit he looks kinda cute. Kinda? right, he looks adorable!

So we help them cross the road with me leading them through the road and Peeta coaxing the duck family after me. It's a slow and tedious job but we manage to get it done.

I wipe my sweaty forehead, considering how to make Prim pay for making me do this when my thoughts are interrupted by an unknown voice.

"Excuse me, you both are under arrest for holding traffic. Follow me and don't try to make a run for it, I know what you look like and I can easily find you," the officer, Cray, as the badge displays, tells us.

I gulp and Peeta nods and we follow the officer.

"Officer Cray," Peeta says with a charming smile, "we didn't mean to hold the traffic but there were-" his charm seems ineffective as Cray barks for him to be quiet.

"You," he points a finger at me, "tell me why the fuck did you block the road with the boy at this god-forsaken hour?" he asks.

"I was on the way to drop my sister at school when she saw the ducks stuck in traffic and begged me to help them cross the road. Peeta was there too and we coaxed them, only it took too long and you busted us. I swear our intentions were pure," I tell him, not wanting Peeta to get in trouble either.

He asks me my number plate number, Prim's school name, and radios another officer to take my sister to school as I would be unable to do so today.

Cray motions us to climb in his RMP and we follow with no more objections. It will get worse if we try to talk our way out of it so let's just listen to him, Peeta had said as we approached the car.

I zone out as soon as we climb in the cruiser and in no time, we're being escorted to our cells. Cell, I remind myself as Peeta and I are locked in the same fucking holding cell.

Turning to me, Peeta flashes me a bright smile. "So...you wanna play a game to pass time?" I roll my eyes at his cheerful demeanor.
