There´s no much to say about the story bellow, just that it takes place somewhere around this current season (Season 15) and have its scene at Murdoch´s office and at George´s house. The only difference, its that Effie is ever more sick than she is showing at the show, till now.

Hope you enjoy it and have a good reading.

UNLUCKY IN LOVE

On an easy day at the Station 4, Detective William Murdoch was just finishing a report for the last case they work with, when suddenly, his colleague and friend, Constable George Jason Crabtree set in front of him with a tired face and keep silence, just watching his superior to work.

''George? Can I help you with something?'' the detective asked confused.

''No Sir… i…'' the constable replied and passed his hand trough his hair. ''Sir, allow me to ask something personal? What you felt when Eva Pearce shot Dr. Ogden?''

Taken aback by that question, William just leaned back on his chair and look to his friend with a curious look, then he just took a deep breath and looked at the photograph of Julia on his desk, before answering it.

''At the time George, I thought I never hated anyone like I hated Miss Pearce, she tried to murder Julia in cold blood and I hated her for that, for trying to take the woman I love away from me,'' William replied. ''Why you ask?''

''Sir, I think I felt the same for Amelia… and Dorothy, if I got my hand on them now i…''

''You will do nothing George.'' Murdoch said and in response George got red with anger.

''Sir!'' George said. ''They attacked Effie, she isn´t the same Sir, she even refuses to eat, afraid of been poisoned or something for Heavens sake…''

''Even so George, hate isn´t a good sentiment and revenge on your own hands doesn´t help either, you of all people should know this.'' William told him.

''You didn´t scold Dr. Ogden for killing Eva Pearce.''

''She killed Eva Pearce on self-defense, but even so, if she wouldn't have show up, probably Eva Pearce would be back in custody and properly hang for her crimes… the same goes to the Erns twins, you will arrest them I'm sure and they will pay for what they did on the right way,'' William replied. ''We are officers of the law, we need to protect people, but we aren´t above the law, if we take matters on our own hands, even when they deserve, we will be equal the ones who did us evil and you don´t want that.'' He said and George just nodded.

''Sir, you think I'm unlucky in love?''

''What?''

''Look Sir… Emily, Nina, Edna, they all left in a way or another and now Effie…'' he took a deep breath. ''Sir, I think I should live a life like Det Watts.'' George point out and William could help but laugh.

''Don´t be foolish George, you aren´t unlucky, on the contrary, I think you have lucky a lot in love.'''' he said. ''Now, how´s Miss Newsome doing?''

''Bad Sir… Dr. Ogden suggested that Effie must go to an asylum.''

''As I recall, Julia told you, Mis Newsome condition is treatable and she will be right as rain in no time, she just need time.'' William tried to cheer him up.

To tell the truth, after another unpleasant encounter with Amelia in the middle of the night, Effie Newsome barely left the bed, too afraid to do anything, she refused to eat, refused to drink and was afraid of almost everything, to the point that to leave the house, George had to ask friends to look after her.

''If Amelia´s goal was to me not marry Effie, she managed, and I don´t know what to do anymore Sir.''

''Don´t loose hope George, soon enough, the Ernst twins will be behind bars and you and Miss Newsome will be happy again, have faith and pray to God to guide you in the right way.'' Murdoch advised and in response, George smiled.

''Thank you for hearing me out, Sir!'' he said and left.

Later that evening, when he got home, George found Effie in bed again and Ruth, who enlist to stay with her for a bit, complained that her cousin didn´t want to eat anything, not even Rupert´s famous cannelloni.

''Don´t worry, I think I will find a way to solve this.'' George said and once Ruth left, he went to his kitchen and come back a few minutes later with a giant bowl of mushroom soup, made by himself.

''George, thanks, but I don´t want to eat anything, I'm too tired.'' She replead.

''You are tired because you didn´t eat,'' he replied with a kiss on her forehead. ''Here, my aunt Camelia teach me this delicious mushroom soup, you have to prove it.''

''Thanks George, but no, its there something in it.''

''Only mushrooms,'' the constable laughs and took a spoon himself. ''See?'' he raised an eyebrow.

With a deep breath then Effie put herself on sitting position and once George convinced her the soup was clean, she decided to join him on his simple dinner.

To this act of course, George felt his hearth light. The detective was right, he wouldn´t lose hope, there was still happiness for him on the end of the tunnel, even it means that he was going to make his sweetheart get better by spoon-feeding her with every kind of soup he could think of.
