Brother and Sister

Loxy was looking out at the courtard from the window, but she payed little attention to what was happening there. Instead, she seemed to be lost deep in thoughts. The wind was blowing softly, caressing her face and playing with her hair, however, it did little to cease her worries. The young female sighed heavily at the current state of affairs.

"I see that even the fine weather of today is not enough to bring you peace, little sister," came a calm voice that made Loxy turn around in surprise. "Sean! I did not hear you coming..." A small smile appeared on her face at the sight of her brotheer, but it slowly faded as she added: "But you are right. I have a really bad feelling about everything that is happening now." Sean walked up to his sister and joint her by the window and said with sadness present in his voice: "Yes, the situation with the bandits is getting more apparant."

The two of them remained in silence for a little while before Loxy dared to ask: "And... what about uncle Ferris...?" The young male tensed slightly, catching the unspoken second half of his sister's question. "No... every time I bring the topic out, he seems to switch to something else." Loxy sighed again at that, for that surely seemed like something Ferris would do. "But why...? It could only do good if he just gave his leave to properly investigate the issues," she asked, and Sean shook his head, replying with a hint of frustration: "I wish I knew that. His Majesty seems to be relucant to make any move in this matter."

Loxy shared her brother's feelings, and it took her another moment to turn to Sean again. "I just wish... there was more that I could help with." She herself tried to speak with the king on that matter, but has been clearly shown that taking interest in such topics shouldn't be her bussiness. Sean looked at his sister, fully aware of the empathy she held for the people of Clonmel, and he saw in her eyes a hint of bitterness due to the inability to do anything to improve the situation. And while he held the advantage of being a male and the position of majordomo, in this situation he felt the same as her.

Quickly, Sean came to a decision. As hopeless as it might seem at this point, he needed to talk to his uncle about the situation with the bandits again. Not only for the sake of the kingdom, but for his sister too. He sighed: "I will try to speak with him once again..." Loxy eyed her brother and saw that while he himself gave the case of changing the king's mind little hope to succeed, he would still give it a try. She admired that dedication, and before she could stop herself she said: "If you want, I could go with you."

Sean was a bit surprised by that, and while he wasn't sure if it would work, her thought there was nothing to lose. "Alright, we haven't tried approaching uncle together so far. Who knows, shared efforts might bring some improvement. At least it should be harder for him to move to something else." And while he was already wondering what could possibly be the next step for him to make and the possible risk of crossing the line of his competence, the thankful smile that appeared on Loxy's face made those ideas disappear.

"So, tomorrow then?" Loxy asked eargerly. A genuine smile appeared on Sean's face as fell. "Tomorrow, in the afternoon."

Note: The first chapter of Kings of Clonmel timeline is here. In the book it's said that Sean tried to make a difference, which nicely seems to give the siblings a common goal.
