As the sun rose over the Boiling Isles to mark the start of another day, Amity woke up and stretched her arms out as she yawned, and then she looked to her side and smiled as she saw Luz sleeping soundly.

"Luz is so cute when she's sleeping", Amity said, "I better not wake her up."

Amity left hers and Luz's shared room and went to the bathroom to get ready for the day, and looked at herself in the mirror and took notice of her hair, which she had recently begun wearing down, but still dyed green, and after looking at it for a moment, she came to a decision.

"Maybe it's time I finally tried something different", Amity said.

Meanwhile, Luz had finally woken up and went downstairs to the kitchen, where King was busy pondering about something.

"Good morning, King", Luz said.

King didn't respond, much to Luz's confusion.

"King", Luz asked, "is everything alright?"

"Huh, what", King asked, "oh, sorry, Luz."

"You looked like you were lost in thought", Luz said, "what were you thinking about?"

"Do you remember when you went to the Demonican Republic about a week ago", King asked.

"How could I forget an adventure as epic as that", Luz asked.

"Well, I've been thinking", King said, "did any of the demons living there mention me?"

"I don't think so", Luz said.

"What about Lord Exo and Lady Naja", King asked, "did you mention me to them?"

"I might've mentioned you once or twice", Luz said, "but they didn't know who you were."

"Did anyone recognize my title as the King of Demons", King asked.

"Not really", Luz said, "in fact, Lord and Lady Lucifer are referred to as the first to rule over a united nation of demons."

"What", King asked, "but I'm sure I was the King of Demons."

"Maybe in a past life", Luz said, "but that doesn't seem to be the case here."

"I don't get it", King said, "how could demons living in a place like that not know who I was?"

"I'm sure there's some kind of explanation", Luz said.

"I hope so", King said, "this really bothers me."

King left the kitchen and Luz started fixing some cereal for breakfast, and a few seconds later, Eda walked into the kitchen sporting a new look: her now-orange hair was tied in a ponytail, she no longer wore her earrings, and she now wore a three-toned maroon dress that was longer than her previous dress and had a ripped hem, light gray leggings, and gray high-heeled boots.

"Morning, Eda", Luz said, "love the new look."

"Thanks, kiddo", Eda said, "I've been meaning to change my look ever since I got cured."

"Well, you're really rocking it", Luz said.

Then, Amity walked down the stairs.

"Morning, everyone", Amity said.

Luz and Eda looked at Amity with surprised looks on their faces.

"And it looks like I'm not the only one who decided to change things up", Eda said.

The reason Luz and Eda were staring at Amity in surprise was because her hair was now different: it was in a completely different style and was dyed lilac, with her natural brown hair color visible at her temples.

"Wow, Amity", Luz said, "you look amazing."

"Thanks, Luz", Amity said.

"What's with the new 'do, kiddo", Eda asked.

"Well Mom, ever since I learned I was your daughter, I felt like I was free from Odalia and Alador, so I decided to stop wearing my hair in that hairstyle the made me wear it in", Amity said, "I kept dying my hair green out of habit, but today, I decided it was time I finally stopped and chose what I wanted to do with my hair."

"And this is what you decided on", Eda said.

"That's right", Amity said, "Aunt Lilith helped me with my hair."

Lilith then walked down the stairs next to Amity.

"Indeed", Lilith said, "and I was pleased to help Amity do away with the awful color-coordination Odalia inflicted on her."

"I thought about just going back to my natural hair color or dying it orange like yours or dark blue like Aunt Lilith's", Amity said, "but in the end, this is what I came up with."

"I think it's great", Luz said, "you look like a goddess."

"A goddess", Amity asked.

"Yes", Luz said, "a beautiful cotton candy-haired goddess."

Luz's comment made Amity's face go as red as a tomato.

"Okay, that's enough, Luz", Eda said, "any more loving comments, and Amity might melt."

"I can't help it", Luz said, "now she's got that new hairstyle, Amity's even cuter than she was before."

Luz's comments were too much for Amity to handle, and at last, sighed happily as she literally began to melt.

"I warned you", Eda said.

Amity was now a puddle of a lilac liquid with her face, which was wearing a lovestruck expression.

"I'll get the bucket", Lilith said.

It didn't take long to bring Amity back to her normal form, and soon, everyone was eating breakfast together.

"What's our schedule today, Mom", Amity asked.

"I'm not sure", Eda said, "anything you kids want to do?"

"Well", Luz said, "there is one thing I was thinking."

Luz ducked underneath the kitchen table and then came back out wearing her Hexside uniform.

"I think it's about time Amity and I went back to school", Luz said.

"You want us to go back to Hexside", Amity asked.

"That's right", Luz said, "we haven't gone there since you were manipulated by Belos into handing me over to him."

"Oh, right", Amity said, "you would have to bring that incident up."

"I'm not sure this is a good idea, Luz", Lilith said, "Belos is determined to get his hands on you, and Amity is wanted for helping you escape from him."

"I hate to agree with Lily, but she's right", Eda said, "it might be too risky for you two to attend Hexside anymore."

"Maybe we should listen to them, Luz", Amity said, "I mean, I love getting an education more than anyone, but Mom and Aunt Lilith both have good points."

"I know", Luz said, "but who says anyone has to know we're back at Hexside?"

"What do you mean by that", Amity asked.

"I might know a way we can attend Hexside without anyone knowing we're there", Luz said.

Later that day at Hexside, Willow and Gus were walking down the hallways in between classes while having a conversation.

"I heard you had to do a report on an exotic location in the Boiling Isles", Willow said.

"That's right", Gus said, "I chose the Demonican Republic because of that adventure we had there."

"Nice", Willow said, "how'd it go?"

"I got an A+", Gus said, "thanks to all that stuff we did and learned there, I had plenty of information to include in my report."

"Good for you", Willow said.

Willow and Gus stopped at the former's locker so she could get something out of it, and Boscha walked by with her friends Skara, Amelia, and Cat, and she bumped into Willow.

"Watch where I'm going, Leaf Girl", Boscha said.

Willow and Gus weren't very happy about Boscha bullying them.

"Hey, what's the big idea", Gus asked.

"You hear that, girls", Boscha asked.

"Hear what", Skara asked.

"The little dweebus' voice", Boscha said, "I don't know how he managed it, but he somehow sounds dorkier than before."

"Don't judge me for sounding different", Gus said, "all boys' voices change at this age."

"And yours didn't change for the better", Boscha said.

"Okay, that's enough", Willow said, "leave us alone, Boscha."

"Or what", Boscha asked.

At that moment, a vine wrapped around Boscha's leg and pulled her up off the ground and into the air, much to the confusion of her friends, Willow, and Gus.

"Hey, put me down", Boscha said.

"I'm not doing this", Willow said.

"Me neither", Gus said.

Boscha struggled to get her foot free from the vine, but she couldn't do it.

"Don't just stand there, girls", Boscha said, "get me down from here!"

Skara and Amelia grabbed Boscha's hands and began pulling, and at last she came free and landed on top of them and Cat.

"Don't think this is over", Boscha said, "this isn't the last either one of you will see of me!"

Boscha walked away with her friends and left Willow and Gus still pondering about the mysterious vine that had lifted her up.

"Are you sure it wasn't you, Willow", Gus asked.

"Positive", Willow said, "I didn't cast a single plant spell."

"Then who did it", Gus asked.

"Beats me", Willow said.

Later that day when classes ended, Willow and Gus were walking down the halls to leave Hexside and go home for the day, and Willow stuck her hand in her pocket and felt something in it, and then pulled out a piece of paper.

"What's this", Willow asked.

Willow unfolded the paper and found that it was a note.

"I wonder what this is about", Willow said.

Gus noticed Willow holding the note.

"What you got there, Willow", Gus asked.

"It's a note", Willow said, "someone must've slipped it into my pocked."

"That's strange", Gus said, "what does it say?"

"Let's see", Willow said.

Willow read the note, which said,

Come to the Detention Track classroom after school. We've got a surprise for you.

"Who gave you this", Gus asked, "and why do they want us to meet them in the classroom for the Detention Track?"

"I've got a pretty good idea who", Willow said.

Willow and Gus went to the Detention Track classroom like the note requested, and they found that there wasn't anyone in there except for the teacher, who was sound asleep.

"Here we are", Willow said, "now where's our mysterious note-sender?"

"Right here", Luz's voice said.

Willow then saw Luz standing in the opening of the secret door on the classroom's blackboard.

"Luz, it's you", Willow said.

Willow went over to Luz and hugged her.

"What are you doing here", Gus said, "we didn't think you'd come back to Hexside after all that stuff with the Emperor."

"Amity and I found a way to make it work", Luz said.

"Amity's here too", Willow asked.

"That's right", Luz said, "come in here, and I'll explain more."

Willow and Gus followed Luz through the door, and they found themselves standing in the Secret Room of Shortcuts.

"Behold", Luz said, "the one place in Hexside where we can go to class without anyone knowing we're there."

"Neat", Gus said.

"Isn't this the place where you hung out with the Detention Track students on your first day", Willow asked.

"That's right", Luz said, "I remembered this place and decided it was the perfect way to secretly attend classes at Hexside, and to also lend you two a hand when you need it."

Luz's words made Willow realize something.

"You're the one who lifted Boscha up with that vine", Willow said.

"It's amazing what you can do with a plant glyph, isn't it", Luz asked.

"Wow", Gus said, "I can't believe you get to attend classes from this room."

"We sure do", Luz said, "it's the perfect way to go to school without anyone knowing you're there."

"She's right", Amity said, "the teachers have no idea we're secretly watching their classes."

Willow and Gus saw Amity walk over next to Luz in her Hexside uniform.

"Amity", Willow said, "it's so good to see you."

"It's good to see you guys too", Amity said.

"What's with your hair", Gus asked, "I almost didn't recognize you."

"I decided it was finally time to stop with the green hair and dye it a color I want it in", Amity said, "I thought lilac seemed like a good enough choice, so that's what I went with."

"I think it suits you", Willow said.

"You do", Amity asked.

"Yeah", Willow said, "it feels good seeing how much you've changed ever since you broke away from Mr. and Mrs. Blight."

"Thanks, Willow", Amity said, "I feel like I'm no longer the witch I was before, and that I'm finally my true self."

"Sounds like the Amity I knew when we were kids has officially returned", Willow said, "welcome back, friend."

"Thanks, friend", Amity said.

Then, the two reconciled friends hugged one another.

"That's so sweet", Gus said.

"It sure is", Luz said.

Luz took out her phone and checked the time on it.

"Well, I think we've stayed here long enough", Luz said, "we should probably get going now."

"You're right", Willow said, "my dads are probably wondering where I am."

"So is my dad", Gus said.

"I'll show you to the exit", Luz said.

Luz led Willow and Gus down the ramp to a door that led outside Hexside.

"But before you go, I need you two to promise that you won't tell anyone about this", Luz said, "if anyone finds out me and Amity are here, we could all get in big trouble."

"Got it, Luz", Willow said, "this'll be our little secret."

"We won't tell a soul", Gus said.

"Great", Luz said, "see you two around, then."

"You too", Willow said.

Willow and Gus went out the door, and Amity walked over to Luz.

"It sure was nice to see Willow and Gus again", Amity said.

"It sure was", Luz said, "and it was especially great seeing you and Willow officially rekindle your friendship."

"We were making progress, but I never felt like we were truly friends again", Amity said, "but now I'm living a new life away from the Blight family, I feel different, like I've broken out of the shell that was my former self and I'm now the person I was really meant to be."

"It's amazing how you went from trying to get me dissected by Principal Bump to this in only a few months", Luz said.

"Can you please not bring that up", Amity said, "I'm still trying to forget that regretful incident."

"Okay, I won't bring it up again", Luz said, "well, we'd better get home."

"You're right", Amity said, "I'd hate for Mom to worry about us."

And with that, Luz and Amity picked up their school bags and began making their way back to the Owl House.

AN: That thing about Amity melting into a puddle after falling so lovestruck because of Luz was inspired by something similar Mr. Hardcor3 did in his story "Family Secret." I thought I'd include it because I thought the idea of Amity melting from her loving Luz was pretty neat, so I figured it would be good to include in a story at some point. Anyways, I hope you're enjoying the story so far, because there's much more to come.
