A/N- Hey, guys! So, there is a very important Author's Note at the end, so be sure to read that if you want me to post again. Anyway, here's the next installment. Enjoy!
"Robin?" Alice asked, glancing up at her wife, who was reading on the couch across the living room from her.
"Yes?" Robin replied, setting aside the latest pregnancy book that her mom had brought for her and Alice.
"D'you think you could run to the kitchen and grab me a few chocolate covered strawberries?" Alice requested. "I'd do it myself, but I finally managed to get comfortable, and. . ."
"Say no more," Robin smiled. "I'll be right back with a plate of chocolate covered strawberries for my beautiful wife."
Upon reaching the kitchen, however, Robin discovered that there were no chocolate covered strawberries to be found, despite having bought some not even a week ago. Alice must have eaten the rest as a midnight snack and forgotten about it.
"Oh, Alice, I'm sorry," Robin said. "We're all out. Do you want me to go to the store and pick some up?"
"No, that's alright," Alice sighed. "The only store that sells the brand I like is all the way across town, and I'm not craving them bad enough to make you go out there. All I'm really craving right now is your company."
"My company? Or me?" Robin replied seductively.
"No, just your company!" Alice responded perkily. "I'm sorry to say, but I think that particular phase of cravings has passed. In fact, just thinking about it makes me queasy now."
"Pity," Robin sighed. "I did love those cravings."
"They definitely weren't the worst part about this pregnancy," Alice agreed.
Just then, they heard a knock on the door.
"I wonder who that could be?" Robin pondered aloud.
"It's probably your mum," Alice answered. "I invited her over for dinner, remember? That's why I made lasagna."
"I do remember, but my mom never knocks," Robin stated doubtfully.
"She didn't used to," Alice agreed. "But I'd imagine after last week, she won't ever come in without knocking again."
The incident Alice was referring to had happened just a week prior, and, in Zelena's own words, had, "Probably traumatized her for life."
Alice had had a particularly strong craving that day, and she and Robin had not quite made it to the bedroom. Instead, Robin had decided that the sofa, despite being in full visibility of the front door, was a perfectly acceptable place to ease said craving.
Zelena had breezed into the apartment, rambling on about nursery decorations or something equally as unimportant in the moment, and had witnessed first hand the intimate moment between Robin and her pregnant wife.
Since that day, Zelena had not returned to the house, but Alice was most likely right that Zelena would knock from here on out.
Sure enough, when Robin opened the door, there was her mother, looking slightly nervous, as if she was afraid that she would see something that she didn't want to, despite having knocked.
"Relax, Mom," Robin smirked. "Alice and I were just in the living room reading. If we'd been doing what you clearly thought we were doing, I wouldn't have answered the door."
"Fair point," Zelena admitted. "But after what I walked in on last week. . ."
She shuddered dramatically.
"Well, let's just say you can never be too careful and leave it at that, shall we?" Zelena suggested.
Then, she hugged Robin and stepped through the door.
Alice heaved herself out of the armchair and walked over to Zelena before wrapping her mother-in-law in a tight embrace.
"It's good to see you again, Mum," Alice said, smiling. "Particularly under less awkward circumstances."
"Yes," Zelena replied, clearly trying to squash down the "traumatic" memories. "So, how are you? How's the baby? Is everything going well?"
"Everything's wonderful!" Alice exclaimed. "She's been moving around a good bit, and if you stay a little bit after dinner, she might wake up and start kicking. She's pretty active at night."
"Oh, excellent!" Zelena responded. "So, how's. . ."
As Alice and Zelena settled in for a long, probably boring conversation, Robin took a seat on the armrest of Alice's favorite chair and began carding her fingers absentmindedly through her wife's blonde curls.
After dinner, just as Alice had predicted, the baby did become quite active and began kicking in various places on Alice's raised abdomen. Much to Robin's disappointment, Alice insisted on letting Zelena touch her belly and feel the baby kick first, giving Robin a look that told her to be patient.
Finally, after what seemed like forever, Zelena began saying her goodbyes.
As she raised her hands to magic herself out of Robin and Alice's apartment, Alice cried, "Wait!"
Looking sheepishly between Robin and Zelena, Alice asked in a small voice, "Do you think you could magic over to the grocery store at the other end of the Heights? They have Godiva dipped chocolate covered strawberries there, and I'm really craving them, but I didn't want to make Robin drive all the way out there so late, and-"
"Oh, don't worry about it," Zelena said warmly. "I'll poof over there right now, pick up some strawberries, and be back in a blink, okay?"
"Thank you," Alice replied gratefully.
"Of course, dear," Zelena smiled. "Anything for my favorite daughter-in-law."
With that, she disappeared in a cloud of green smoke.
"Alice," Robin said gently. "You know you could've just asked me, right? I would've gone to get some."
"I know," Alice sighed. "But Mum can do it faster, and this way, we get more time together."
"Well, I do love when we get time together," Robin grinned.
When Zelena returned, she appeared outside the door and knocked, not wanting to rudely interrupt anything that might have been happening while she was away.
"Come in!" Robin called.
Zelena entered the apartment to find Alice sitting on the couch with Robin sprawled out beside her. Robin's head was in Alice's lap, and Alice was running her fingers through Robin's dirty blonde hair.
"Here are your strawberries," Zelena announced, handing the package to Alice.
"Thanks, Mum!" Alice replied gratefully.
"No problem," Zelena smiled back. "Anything for my two favorite girls."
"I'm not one of your favorite girls?" Robin pouted. "But I'm your daughter! Your own flesh and blood!"
"My three favorite girls," Zelena corrected. "I didn't think the strawberries were for you too."
"Oh, they're for her too," Alice purred, pulling a strawberry from the package.
Zelena paled, called, "Well, it was lovely to see you three. Good night!" and poofed away in a cloud of emerald green smoke.
"I was only going to feed you a strawberry," Alice said, tipping her head to one side in confusion. "What's she running from?"
"Who cares?" Robin laughed. "Finally, we're alone. Care to do anything in particular?"
She had a hopeful gleam in her eye, but Alice, sensing where her wife was going with this, quickly shut her down.
"No," she sighed happily. "I'm content to just sit here and eat chocolate covered strawberries with you."
"Well, alright," Robin sighed, significantly less happily. "If that's what you want, then that's what we'll do."
They spent another hour there, on the couch, feeding each other strawberries and cooing each time the baby kicked, surrounded by a nearly palpable cloud of bliss. Eventually, Robin fell asleep on the couch, her head still on Alice's lap.
Alice smiled gently down at her, before shifting ever-so-carefully so that she was standing and Robin's head was laid on a pillow. She pulled a blanket off the back of the couch and tucked her wife in gently.
"Sweet dreams, my love," Alice whispered lovingly, before kissing Robin's forehead, turning off the lamp, and heading to bed with a blissful smile still pulling at the corners of her mouth.
A/N- So, by the time you're reading this, I've finished this entire story. It will have twenty-one chapters, all of which are named and uploaded to my documents, just waiting to be posted. However, in an effort to increase the amount of reviews I'm getting, I've decided to try something new. Instead of posting daily or weekly, I've decided to only post a new chapter once I've gotten at least 2 reviews on the previous chapter. A review can be praise, or constructive criticism, or a prompt (the story is finished, but I'm happy to write another chapter if anyone requests something). You can vote on the baby's name (the options are listed in previous chapters). A review can be as short as one word, and won't take more than a second to write. So, because I don't think I'm asking a lot, and is the only one who consistently reviews every chapter- huge shoutout to her by the way, I always love getting her reviews- I am only going to update once my latest chapter has gotten at least two reviews. Anyway, thank you so much for reading, and have a blessed day, loves!
