I awoke gasping for air and clutching my neck where I had been shot moments before. I didn't feel any blood coming from it. Which was odd because just before I lost consciousness it had been gushing out and spilling everywhere. I opened my eyes and was surprised to see that I was in what looked like an office of some sort. I was laying on a couch in the middle of the room and in front of me was an empty chair and a desk behind it. There was a large window behind the desk, and it looked like it was nighttime. I rolled off the couch and groaned as I did. When I was finally standing, I could see better out the window.
"What the fuck… What the fuck!" I yelled. It wasn't nighttime outside, it looked like I was in a void. I stepped closer to the window. There was nothing outside. Literally nothing. There were no stars, no ground, no anything. I turned around and was greeted with floating text.
Hello! We would like to inform you that you have died.
You have our deepest condolences.
Please Do Not Panic.
"How am I not supposed to panic! Some floating text just told me I was dead!" I yelled. What the hell is going on here!
Please Do Not Panic.
We would like to congratulate you on being 5,000,000th person to die this month!
Because of this special occasion you have been selected to be reincarnated in a new universe of your choice, with your current memories intact!
Congratulations!
"WHAT!" I yelled. I had figured I would probably die when I was shoot, but for all this to happen. I took a moment to calm down and then asked "Uh… What's going on?"
As stated before, you were the 5,000,000th death this month.
As such you have been selected for The Reincarnation Program.
You will be given a list of fictional universes, well they're real in the multiverse.
Anyways, would you like to look at the list we have calculated would be the best for you?
"Sure". I said as I shrugged. This all seemed to be real enough, and even if it was some sort of hallucination I had while I was dying it was at least interesting.
First, we would like to inform you that this is not a hallucination.
Yes, we can read your mind.
Well, this just got more interesting.
Here is the list:
Halo
Star Wars
Harry Potter
Mass Effect
Dragon Age
Warhammer 40K
"So, I uh, just pick one?" I asked.
Yup.
And if none of these are to your liking,
then just inform us and we'll generate a new list.
"Okay." I said. Well, each was pretty interesting, but I felt like I knew more about Star Wars than any of the others. Also, the idea of being a Jedi and having a lightsaber might have sold me on it too. "I'll take Star Wars." I said as I nodded my head.
Are you sure?
(Tap your answer)
Yes No
I tapped the yes button that had appeared. Suddenly the office was cleared of all furniture except for the couch, which moved across the room without making a noise. A large mirror appeared next to me.
Beginning Character Creation…
"Holy shit! I get to make a new character?!" I exclaimed.
Sure thing!
"It's like a video game!" I yelled with excitement.
It's the best way for your feeble mortal mind to understand.
I ignored the insult, and asked "What do I do now?"
Well, in character creation you may select your new attributes, skills, perks, race, name, etc.
Step One: Determine Starting Species/Race
The mirror moved in front of me and at the bottom if it were different race options. I recognized most of them and it looked like they were all from Star Wars. All except Humans had a number and then CCP next to them. They all also had advantages and disadvantages. "What's CCP?" I asked the disembodied voice.
There are certain things that require Character Creation Points. (CCP)
You have 10 CCPs to begin. You may take flaws to get more.
Some items can only be taken in character creation.
These require CCPs to get.
However, you are also given half of your past life's Perk Points (PP) to use on these items and other perks.
"Ah." I said while I relooked over all the options. A few tempted me, but I figured the safest option was human. And it was free, so that helped. I selected it and two big buttons appeared.
Confirm Cancel
I hit the confirm button. In the mirror I changed from me to what looked like a bald default NPC.
Step Two: Determine Starting Age
A slider appeared and was set to my old age of 28. "What does this do?"
The slider allows you to pick your age.
Age determines your starting level; age and level are often the same.
Age also determines if ability bonuses, or penalties should be applied.
Certain skills may be locked off due to age, but only a select few.
A level is automatically gained for every year spent as a child.
"Oh okay." I played with slider some watching as the character, me, got older and younger rapidly. I decided to pick a lower level, because it would give more time to get used to the world and hopefully allow more rapid levelling. I had trouble deciding on how young to go. The slider went all the way to zero, but that seemed a tad ridiculous, and I didn't want to spend any time as a baby. I decided either two or three. "Could I be two and half?" I asked cautiously.
Sure!
Suddenly the slider moved to two and a half. I hit the confirm button that was just below the slider.
Step Three: Appearance Through the Ages
The mirror now had several buttons.
Toddler (2-4)
Child (5-8)
Pre-teen (9-12)
Teen (13-17)
Young Adult (18-25)
Adult (26-34)
Middle Aged (35-54)
Senior (55+)
I tapped the young adult button. It had several subsections for each age in the group. I picked male, mainly because it's what I knew best. I then gave myself pale skin and light brown hair. I was having trouble deciding on the eye color. I was trying to decide if I should make it super unique or plainer. I decided on unique. I figured I was going to a new universe why not go unique? I chose gold-colored irises. Then I made it that I could grow a full beard by twenty-one, which I hadn't been able to do in my old life but figured that it would look good if I became a Jedi. I also made myself six foot three, which was an inch taller than I had been in real life. I noticed that once I had confirmed for young adult other options were locked in for other ages. I hit the confirm button once I was done.
Step Four: Select First Name
Keep Current: Chris
I didn't think it seemed very Star Warsy, but at the same time I didn't want to get used to a new name.
New Name: Crys
Confirm Cancel
I decided that this would sound the same and fit the universe better. I tapped the confirm button.
Step 5: Determine Attributes
There are six attributes.
During character creation you are given six attribute points (AP).
No attribute may be below zero.
Each level up you receive Intelligence (Int)*2/10 APs (Minimum one).
Strength (Str): Measures physical prowess. Used to determine
inventory slots, damage for melee attacks, and bonuses for some skills.
Dexterity (Dex): Measures agility. Used to determine damage for
ranged attacks and bonuses for some skills.
Constitution (Con): Measures endurance and over all vitality. Used to
determine HP (Con*4) each level up, chance to resist physical attacks/effects,
and bonuses for some skills.
Intelligence (Int): Measures reason and memory. Used to determine AP per
level, Skill Points (SP) per level, and bonuses for some skills.
Wisdom (Wis): Measures perception and insight. Used to determine chance to
resist mental attacks/effects and bonuses for some skills.
Charisma (Cha): Measures force of personality. Used to determine bonuses for
force powers and some skills.
I decided to go an even spread for my six character creation AP. After I confirmed that I was done, two more points were given for my level up to level two. I put these points in Int. I once again hit the confirm button.
Step Six: Select and Transfer Skills
Every level up you gain 2*Int skill points (SP).
At character creation you are given 100 SP.
You have 6 SP for being level 2.
You have 2532 SP to Transfer.
The ranks for skills are Novice, Adept, Expert, Master, Prodigy, and Savant.
Skills can range from Novice 1 to Savant 100.
Each attribute point for related skills boosts learning speeds for those skills by 10%.
For every increase in rank one AP is gained, you may spend this how you wish.
I was in shock there were thousands of skills listed. I was just as surprised to see what skills I had from my old life as well. Everything was covered from Ranged (Two-handed) to guitar. Next to skills there was a button that read transfer. I had Language (English): Expert 98, and when I hit transfer, it was now Language (Basic): Expert 98. It took me a while, but once I was finished, I was content with what I has picked. I pressed the confirmation button and a pop up appeared.
You have 20 unspent AP.
You may spend these points later through the interface.
Would you like to spend them now?
Yes No
I hit the no button.
Step Seven: Perks
Some Perks can only be selected in character creation and with CCPs, however while in character creation you may purchase these points with your PPs.
Half of your PPs from your old life are transferred to your new one.
You currently have 10 CCPs and 4 PPs.
Because you are the 5,000,000th death this month you have received two free perks:
Player's Mind:
When active this ability will nullify your emotions allowing you to think clearly.
While this is active this ability also grants immunity to any mind-altering attacks/effects.
This immunity will activate if an attack/effect is detected.
Player's Body:
You do not feel pain, as when you take damage it comes from your HP pool.
Any damage that is taken is shown as cuts and bruises.
This ability does not apply to the severing of limbs.
This perk also grants immunity to poisons and diseases.
This perk is always active but can be shut off if desired.
"Awesome." I said while taking in the two perks. I then looked at the full list. The perk list was much shorter than the skills list. There were only about thirty-odd perks to choose from versus the thousands of skills. A few caught my eye.
Force Sensitive:
Cost 2 CCP:
You have some force sensitivity and may learn to use it given enough time. Gain 100 Force Points (FP) per level.
Gifted in the Force:
Cost 4 CCP:
You are force sensitive and it's only a matter of time till you learn to use it. Gain 250 FP per level.
Force Prodigy:
Cost 6 CCP:
You have a deep and strong connection with the force; with this you could be one of the strongest force users for your time. Gain 500 FP per level.
Vergence in the Force:
Cost 10 CCP:
You are a vergence in the force. You are a wellspring of force energy. The force itself is centered around you and flows freely through you. Gain 1000 FP per level.
Ambidextrous:
Cost 1 PP:
You can treat either hand as your main hand and operate them together seamlessly.
Eidetic Memory:
Cost 2 CC/PP:
Negates the decay of knowledge skills. Allows perfect recall of most memories, and greatly reduces the difficulty to recall information.
Reincarnated in Body and Mind:
Cost 2 CC/PP:
Allows access to your AP from your past life.
I decided that Vergence in the Force was too good to pass up. I also picked up Reincarnated in Body and Mind because that meant my stats would be crazy for my level. I finally picked up Eidetic Memory because I didn't know what the decay rate for skills was and didn't really want to find out, and the ability to have perfect memory sounds crazy useful. I hit the confirmation button and a pop-up appeared.
Warning!
Perk: Eidetic Memory
May cause serious discomfort, pain, or fainting due to unlocking all memories.
"Ah!" I exclaimed as I grabbed my head in pain. It felt like someone was drilling into my head and pumping every memory ever. The pain was overwhelming, and my vision started to fade.
When I woke up, I was laying on the couch again. "How long have I been out?" I asked.
Time doesn't work the same here.
But you took quite the fall.
"Welp, I guess the perk works then." I said with a sigh. "I'm good to continue." I said to the disembodied person/persons.
Okie Dokie.
Step 8: The Force
At every level up you gain FP based off the force sensitivity perk you chose.
Force powers can be learnt from either a Master or by your own experimentation.
"Guess, I'll figure that out as I go." I said exasperatedly.
Step 9: Dynasty/Backstory
Do you wish to pick from existing dynasties?
Go your own path?
Or let us create one?
"Um… I don't… Why don't you decide for me?"
Hmm…
I guess we can…
We'll let you pick the name, but we'll make the backstory.
Does that work for you?
Yes No
"Sure." I said as I tapped yes.
Cool.
Current Family Name: Bell
This didn't really sound like a Star Wars last name. I though about what it should be for a while before entering it.
New Family Name: Târn
Confirm Cancel
It felt like a Star Wars name, and one that could either be light or dark. Jedi Master Târn sounded just as good as Darth Târn.
Step 10: Era
In what era do you wish to live in? (Note there are sub-eras for each era):
Before the Republic
Old Republic
Rise of the Empire
Rise of the Rebellion
New Republic
New Jedi Order
Legacy Era
I read through all the eras and their sub-eras. I decided on the Old Republic. I decided against playing during any of Revan's main eras, and the ones that seemed the most interesting were the Great Galactic War and the Cold War. I knew the Cold War time period from the Star Wars Old Republic MMO. I had played a tad of it when I was still alive, and it was fun enough. But I found the idea of being in a war that spans an entire galaxy with many force users super interesting. So, I clicked on the Great Galactic War and tapped on the confirm button.
You have 109 unspent APs.
Would you like to spend them before continuing?
Yes No
I clicked on the yes button. I spent the points I had from my previous life and saved the spare twenty. I figured they could be useful for a rainy day.
Would you like to end character creation and enter your new universe?
Yes No
I tapped yes. Everything went black.
