This is me trying

Chapter Five

"Does whatever you have to tell me, have anything to do with what happened tonight?"

"Part of it, now while I'm telling you this, please don't interrupt. I didn't tell you before because I was trying to stop this from happening, but it seems I'm too late. It may seem a little hard to believe at first, but Bella I promise everything I'm about to say is true."

"Alright, you're freaking me out. What's the big secret?"

"Bella…we're fae. Like in the myths but also a little different than the common stories. I was born about five hundred years ago to the High Lord and Lady of the Spring Court. You see the fae coexist with humans, but we also live in another dimension that kind of overlaps this one. Now for millenia the fae would come to this dimension and steal humans. It was vagrants and the like and then it escalated to children and babies raised in captivity to be slaves. That's where the myth of changelings came from, but fae babies were not left in their place. All those plagues and wars and anything of that sort where thousands upon thousands died was fae magic and those people were transported to our dimension.

Eventually, there were enough humans there through kidnap and then reproduction that there were billions of them. As the human dimension progressed, the fae had a harder time bringing people over but they will still snatch people when they can. Two hundred years ago, this led to a war between those who wanted to keep humans as slaves and those who wanted to let them have their freedom but continue to live in the only world most of them had ever known. Many fae from my territory – where all the High Lords and Ladies reside- and even some other territories sided with the humans. But many still were loyalists and did not want the free labor to end. The war raged on for five long and bloody years and at the end of it the slaves went free and court lines were redrawn to give humans their own land. A wall was built between the human territories and the fae ones and that should have been the end of it.

But, ten years later a general from one of the island territories came to my territory claiming that her King had sent her to make amends. She spent ten years floating from court to court getting people to trust her. On the eve of her tenth year, she threw a party and invited all of the courts to the sacred meeting spot under the mountain. All of the nobility went along with hundreds from each court. She had cast a spell over the beverages and when midnight struck it tore most of the power from most of them. The nobles used the last of their power to open a tear in the dimension and send as many people as they could through. I had been showing signs that I would be the next High Lord of the Spring Court, so my parents pushed me through.

So, I've been here for the last one hundred and eighty years in hiding. The loyalist are still looking for us in this world and I have no idea what has happened in ours or if my family still lives."

Bella had been watching him in wide eyed fear and disbelief for the duration of his story. What was her father on? What he was saying couldn't possibly be true...but he had never lied to her before. Well, if she didn't consider her whole life being a lie him lying to her.

"Say that I believe you, why am I just now…different?"

"Your mother and I bound your powers when you were born because the loyalist can find us when we're in groups. It was one of the first lessons we learned when coming over to this world. The only way your powers could be awoken were if we both lifted the bind, one of us died, you met your mate, or if you were in immediate danger. I have sensed since you came to town that the bind was loosening but I wasn't sure what the cause was and I'm still not sure what caused you to awaken completely."

Bella stood from her seat at the table without another word and began to walk towards the staircase.

"Bells,"

"No, dad. I need to process everything that I've heard tonight. I'm going up to my room and I just ask that you please leave me alone."

Charlie looked after his baby girl in silence and felt a deep sorrow overtake him. If he, had it his way, she wouldn't have been exposed until she absolutely had to know and that had still been seven years off when her aging would slow enough that she would have to learn to glamour.

Meanwhile upstairs Bella was staring blankly at her TV where she had turned on her favorite show for comfort. She wasn't absorbing anything on the screen and was instead deep in thought about everything Charlie had said and the implications of it all. However, her mind kept going back to one thing.

If the only way she could awaken her powers without Charlie's participation was to meet her mate -whatever that meant- or be in immediate danger…Bella had a feeling she already knew what the catalyst was.

Okay, so I am kind of combining my two favorite series of all time here with slight changes to each When I was in middle school reading twilight, I read all the books 10+ times and have stayed immersed in the world of fanfiction for over a decade. I found my other favorite series while I was browsing for books on my birthday in 2015, it was recently published, and I fell in love with the blurb. Six years later, I've read the main trilogy 10+ times as well, lol. These are the only two series that have ever had this effect on me, I am a littleeee obsessed. Can anyone guess what the other series is? Anyways, I know this chapter is a big reveal and then just kind of ends after, but I rewrote this chapter four times. I didn't want to put too much information in one chapter, and I wanted to see what the reception was to the story moving this way. I love the follows and faves but I also ask for those who are following to please leave reviews! When I'm looking for a new read on , I go based on how the reviews to chapter ratio and I can't be the only one. If I see six chapters and only twelve reviews, I assume it's not worth reading.-Marieorsomething
