Thalia has been invited to the Kent house for a barbecue by Percy two weeks after she was woken up. As Thalia walked into the backyard of the house she could hear the song Ashes by Stellar playing somewhat loudly in the background on one of those blue and orange portable ultimate ears speakers.
Thalia stopped in her tracks when laid eyes on him. The one person that she wasn't expecting to be at the house before she had gotten there herself. Especially since she hadn't seen in years. She thought he was dead for sure.
Killed by their father's explosive rage that resembled a raging storm. His name, Jason Grace. He had a head full of golden blonde windswept hair. Probably from his time using his powers to fly all the time.
Sun kissed tanned skin from his life in California. His arms looked strong, like he'd been working out daily for years. Sky blue eyes that were covered by a pair of California nerd style glasses that were similar to Clark's reporter style glasses.
There was a thin staple shaped scar on the left side of Jason's lips where he tried to eat a stapler when he was two years old. He was smiling, laughing and talking with Percy and two people who looked kind of like her. There was a look in his eyes that told the elder Grace sibling that her baby brother loved it here.
And that made happiness swell inside of the daughter of Zeus. Thalia was happy to see her baby brother again. It was something she had surely missed while she was away being a tree and at camp.
Sure the other day Thalia had heard Annabeth saying something to another camper about this handsome blonde guy named Jason she had met at a gala Bruce Wayne hosted in Gotham City. And how he was Percy's date for it.
But Thalia had written it off as a weird little coincidence. Even if he was her cousins non romantic date. Thalia walked over to the group of four. Percy noticed and smiled brightly at her elder cousin.
Percy made a sign that meant Lord Hades. And then Percy pointed it to the two Thalia didn't recognize.
"Hey Thals." Percy said
Thalia knew Percy was a very family oriented person. Especially on how Dianna and Clark hat raised her. So Thalia tried to be apart of the family Percy was trying to build for herself.
"Hey Perce." Thalia said
Thalia put on a smile that was trying to say that she was okay. Percy knew the smile was fake instantly. But she kept quiet about it though. She knew that Jason being here was a shock to Thalia's system.
"This is Nico and Bianca Di Angelo." Percy said pointing to Nico and Bianca. "And you may know who this is." Pointing to Jason.
"Hi." Thalia said meekly
Everyone could feel how awkward it was. Nico left to get something to drink then to help Clark with the grill. Bianca went to help Dianna with the other food. And that just left the children of Zeus and Poseidon alone.
Thalia looked to her baby brother. There was a look in her eyes that held some level pain and sorrow.
"I thought you died by dad's hand when I left." Thalia said
"Nope. Mom and I are still kicking." Jason said
"I'm sorry that I left. The arguments between mom and dad were too much to handle for me. Especially when I was diagnosed with anxiety on top of my dyslexia and ADHD." Thalia said
"I understand. That's why I stay here. That I have a room here. Dad likes to come down from Olympus every once in a while to see us. Mom found out what happened to you soon after it happened and blamed dad for it. And she became enraged about it." Jason said
Jason and Thalia talked more and more. As the talking went on, they soon forgot about Percy. But she left to help get the food from the kitchen out onto the outside table.
"How's it going out there?" Dianna asked her daughter with a hopeful smile
"It's going good. They've got past the awkward how are you alive part. Now they're talking and catching up." Percy said with a calming smile to counter her mother's
Dianna smiled brightly at what Percy had said. She was happy that her brother and sister were talking to each other. Dianna, Bianca and Percy walked out of the house with the potato salad, macaroni salad, fruit salad and a small bowl of pomegranate seeds.
Percy got hooked onto pomegranate seeds after her talk with Persephone last summer. Dianna and Clark obliged their daughter with the fruit once a week and with pomegranate scented soap.
The girls came over at the same time Nico and Clark came over with the burgers and hot dogs. Dianna, Jason, Thalia and Percy quickly sacrificed some food for the gods and said a little prayer. It was a good thing that they made extra food.
Bianca and Nico did not know why the four sacrificed their food like that, but they were used to it. Bianca was starting to wonder if it would be okay if she did what her foster family did.
As the night went on Thalia began to feel like part of this family. It made her feel like she actually belonged somewhere other then Camp Half Blood. And she was happy with this new feeling. It made her feel safe and wanted.
As dinner and the conversation went on, Percy and Dianna both received a telepathic message from Hades. He told his nieces that Bianca and Nico were ready for Camp Half Blood next summer. This made Percy smile. She was going to show her cousins her home away from home.
One day Percy would hope to show Bianca, Nico, Thalia and Jason her home away from home away from home. Which would be Atlantis where her father, brothers, sister-in-law and stepmother all live. To show them the beauty and glory of the underwater kingdom.
Percy knew that she would only be able to show Bianca and Thalia her island home of Themycira. As the only male Hippolyta and the other Amazons were tolerant of is Lord Hephaestus, the god of the forge. And that was for when their weapons are in need of fixing. Or their armor is in need of strengthening.
Percy became good friends with Hephaestus over the past eighteen months. They confided in each other almost on a daily basis. As a birthday present, Hephaestus gave Percy a charm bracelet that had many weapon shaped charms on it.
When pulled off the bracelet, the charms magically turned into the weapon it was shaped as. Few of the charms were actually the bow and arrow set and a couple hunting knives the hunters of Artemis use. On the bracelet there was also spears, daggers, swords, maces, battle axes and a crossbow.
There was even a couple throwing stars on the bracelet. There was some non weapon themed charms on the bracelet that has some protection spells on it.
Percy absolutely loved the gift. She wore it everyday. The students at Gotham academy didn't understand why Percy wore the bracelet. But they soon came to understand that if something happened to it there will be hell to pay.
It had gotten pretty late and Thalia ended up spending the night in the Kent's guest room. And comeback from the restroom that night, Thalia heard something coming from Percy's room. She heard not only Percy's voice but Jason's as well.
"I'm scared for you and this war. I don't want to loose you." Jason said
'What war are they talking about?' Thalia thought you herself
"You won't loose me flyboy. You never will. And if I go to the underworld, I'll bribe Uncle Hades out." Percy said
There was a tone in Percy's voice that made Thalia know that her cousin did not want to leave this world. That she wanted to be with the family she had built for herself. Thalia looked through the crack in the jarred door.
She saw Jason reach for Percy's hand and grab it. Since coming into this house, Thalia noticed that small moves of affection like this were normal for the pair. And from what Jason had told her, Percy helped him in any way she could. And little touches like grabbing or touching of the hands, helps Percy relax.
Thalia saw Percy visibility relax. She knew of Percy's fear of death. The look in the girls eyes may have looked sad for Jason to grab her hand.
"Can you sleep here tonight?" Percy asked
Everyone who heard the sea princess's voice knew that she did not want to be alone.
"Sure." Jason said
That told the daughter of Zeus to leave and to go to bed. The next morning Thalia saw Percy hanging on Jason's arm. Everyone else didn't bat an eye as this was a normal occurrence for them.
Or that Clark used his super hearing and told Dianna. But Thalia didn't know that. She didn't know Clark's secret like the league or Percy or Jason had. All she knew was that her brother-in-law was a 29 year old Daily Planet reporter from Smallville.
A newspaper that seemed to be all around Camp Half Blood. And a favored one amongst the campers, Chiron, the satyrs and the gods. Basically everyone.
