Summary: There's a distinct scent of something delicious in the air and that's what finally rouses Kara from her slumber. Well... that and the fact that there is an empty space where there should be a Lena for her to cuddle.
Notes: For Flufftober Oct 3 Prompt - Lazy Sundays
Lazy Sunday Mornings
There's the scent of... something in the air. It tugs at Kara's sluggish brain that would like nothing more than to sleep and reminds that brain that food is delicious.
And, well, Kara sometimes feels like she's always hungry. So food is pretty much always going to get her attention.
But on a morning like this one, where Kara doesn't have to be anywhere but at home all day (barring Supergirl emergencies, of course) and neither does Lena... well, Kara would like to spend the morning cuddling with her gorgeous, brilliant, wonderful significant other. Except there's a distinct problem with that plan and Kara, despite being warm in bed with the scent of delicious food in the air, frowns.
There is no Lena Luthor in the bed. Kara rolls over onto Lena's side of the bed, just to be sure. And also to bury her face in Lena's pillow because it smelled so wonderfully like Lena.
Now Kara's slowly wakening brain puts two and two together and arrives at the conclusion that Lena is awake and in the kitchen, making breakfast. Kara should probably join her.
But that would mean getting out of bed and Kara just... doesn't want to do that. Not yet. She hasn't even opened her eyes yet.
And while maybe Kara could have ignored the smells of delicious food if Lena was in bed with her, all warm and soft and snuggly, but Lena isn't in bed with her. Which means that the siren's song of food lures Kara into sitting up and opening her eyes and getting out of the nice, warm bed. She pulls on her robe and slides on her slippers and then lets her nose lead her to the kitchen where her Lena is.
Though also there's food. Can't forget the food.
"Good morning, sleepyhead," Lena greeted teasingly, a soft smile on her face that was reserved only for Kara.
An equally soft smile appeared on Kara's face as she walked over to Lena and pulled her girlfriend into her arms. "It's a good morning now," Kara decided, nuzzling against Lena's neck. "Had to find you first."
Lena's arms slid around Kara's shoulders. "I love you too," she murmured with an amused tone. "So it's only a good morning if I'm there?"
"Yes." Kara nodded, still pressing her nose against Lena's skin. How did Lena always smell so good? "I woke up and there was no Lena in my bed. No Lena snuggles."
The woman in question chuckled, the sound making her throat vibrate against the side of Kara's face. It felt nice.
"Well, I woke up and had to use the bathroom. Only to find a starfish in our bed when I came back. So I thought I'd lure that starfish out of the bed with some delicious food. Though, to be fair, I'm hungry too."
Kara giggled and muttered, "more like a clingy octopus."
"Well, my clingy little octopus is going to have let go if she wants me to take the muffins out of the oven before they burn," Lena observed as the oven timer went off.
Obligingly, Kara let go and settled at the kitchen table where there was already a plate full of eggs and another with vegan sausage and turkey bacon on it. The muffins joined the rest of the food soon enough and Kara stood back up in order to distract Lena with a kiss before she could sit. "Thanks for cooking so much," Kara said after the linger kiss came to an end.
"Well, I've got a clingy octopus with a bottomless stomach to keep fed." Lena kissed her cheek. "Tuck in, darling, and then we can head back to bed. It's Sunday and neither of us have anywhere to be all day."
"Cuddles are the number one item on my todo list," Kara agreed. "Right after breakfast."
Lena laughed, sounding exceedingly happy. And Kara will never, ever take that beautiful laugh for granted. There'd been a time when half-truths and lies on Kara's part had nearly shattered their friendship, but the relationship they'd built back in the aftermath was stronger than ever.
As they'd both wanted, after breakfast was over and Kara practically flew through clean up, they fell back into bed together, snuggling as close as they could before dozing off for a mid morning nap.
Kara rather hopes that every Sunday will always be like this one. Full of love and laughter... and cuddles.
