It has been a year since I had come back to the palace and this... evil Heidemarie was gone as if she had never been there. Not that I miss her too much, especially after she tried to kill me. Yes, yes, Herbert told me everything. One attempt wasn't enough, oh, no, She needed two!
As if it wasn't enough, she had to pair me with this... boring prince who'd become a boring king. Not so handsome, not so smart. "But look, he's really trying!", they say. Like hell I care!
Speaking of the devil. here he comes, our newborn daughter in his hands. Don't you have a kingdom you should be busy with?!
"Isn't she pretty?"
"Yes, there's nothing more pretty than a one month old baby," I said, bored.
She has boring black hair, you know, more like coal, unlike mine which reminds me of the night. Her lips are quite pale and her pupils are too tiny. What is the enthusiasm about?
"Snowhite, I understand I am not you man of choice..."
Far from that.
"Then if you do, why do you keep bothering me?"
"I try my best."
"How many times did I hear this sentence?"
"I just wonder... what do you want?"
"For you to get our my life, thank you."
"Even if Heidemarie was right and you are the most beautiful woman..."
"Are you implying there is someone more beautiful?"
"I didn't see all the women in the world," he sighed "but Heidemaris' beauty isn't much inferior compared to yours."
Like he it did.
"What I'm trying to say," he just had to keep talking "Your heart is as ugly as can be."
"Not more than your daughter," I said mockingly.
"Our daughter," he brings her closer to me.
"She doesn't need you or me, she has a nanny to take care of her all day."
"And did you enjoy when your mother...?"
"She is not my mother!"
"I'm sure it would have been easier to marry her," he turned his back to me and went away.
This second rate prince should thank me for marrying him! True, his father is twice as old, but he has a spine!
I can't believe he prefers this sickening woman over me! I didn't feel like dealing with him, but she wasn't an angel. I left her on purpose after my father's death. I wanted her to come. Did she? She did not! She didn't care for me for a single moment! She preferred me to be with someone else who'd deal with me. She let her made me work. She didn't say a word like, you know, it isn't proper for a princess. But she looked from afar and did nothing.
True, it helped me when I met the children, or the dwarfs as I used to call them, as none of them was older than 10 years old. They let me stay and brought me food. It was better to clean and wash clothes rather than hunting in the woods, getting soaked by rain and mud. They just wanted a mother after their mother died... Well, I don't know what happened to her, and the truth is, I didn't really care. Like I don't care how they are these days.
It is so boring to be a queen. Nothing to do. Just stroll in the corridors all day.
"Your majesty?" Hebrert's voice brings me back to present "Is everything all right?"
"I have a boring husband, an ugly daughter and a palace which has nothing to offer!"
"Is that so?" he smiles at me. Sometimes his smile reminds me of a fox. Disgusting.
"I would really be happy to have some amusement."
"Then, come with me."
He brought me to a room in the palace's basement. I have never been there before. Not that I had anything to look for there. And I don't know why I should have any interest in this. place now
"Here, your boredom will come to an end," he pointed over one of the rooms.
He then walked away and left me by myself. What does a room in a basement have anything to offer me? I open the door. It was empty except for a single mirror. I've never seen such a beautiful mirror. How sad the room is a bit dusty.
The only thing which interests me in the boring palace is to look in the mirror. Indeed, I like Herbert, he understands the needs of a young woman. But this mirror has something different. It sparkles more than the others, even though the room is dark.
"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?"
""It is you, my queen. You are the most beautiful I've even seen."
