Morning came the next day and Jaune was the first one up, thanks to that damn mental alarm clock of his. Although he preferred that to Nora's alarm of her singing and prancing across the room. Jaune looked at his scroll and it was about 7:10 in the morning, classes started at 9 am sharp so they had some time. Seeing his teammates were still sleeping Jaune decided that he would be the first one to brush his teeth and wash his face. He grabbed his headphones and put them on listening to his favorite playlist while brushing his teeth.

While he was doing this Jaune thought about how his first day was going to go. He really hoped that all he would have to do today is listen and write things down and then move onto the next class. Jaune was smart but he didn't really participate in classes because he usually gets all the questions right, and you know how the rest of the student body feels about that. People despising him for being smart, calling him a teacher's pet, and even saying the only reason he was smart was because his mother was Deputy Headmistress of Beacon. He hoped none of that would happen today, especially because he didn't have any of his marijuana to help him relax.

OK fine, Jaune smoked weed so what? It wasn't like he did it when his mom was home or anything like that, he just needed something to get him into the relaxing mood at times. Plus, a lot of kids at Kingsglaive did way more dangerous stuff that Jaune wanted no part of. Well, he couldn't do it at Beacon or else his mother would find out and kill him, so he would have to find a new option. Once he was finished brushing his teeth, washing his face, and put on part of his uniform he walked back into the room. It was nearing 7:30 and he saw that his teammates were still in bed.

"Hey you three, time to wake up!" Jaune said as he clapped his hands.

Ren and Nora yawned and slowly got up but Pyrrha was still sleeping. Jaune walked over to her and he couldn't help but admire her sleeping. She was like a sleeping angel; he almost didn't want to wake her up. Well ALMOST, unfortunately for her they couldn't be late on their first day and Jaune wanted to avoid that as much as possible.

"Yo Pyrrha, did you not hear me? It's time to wake up" Jaune said touching her shoulder and Pyrrha just rolled over.

"Five more minutes…" Pyrrha said sleepily and Jaune just shook his head but smirked soon after. He knew what to do in situations like this, he had been doing it for 17 years with his mother. Jaune opened the door, walked in place for a few moments than closed it. He then returned to Pyrrha's side and began his trick.

"Alright guys are we rea-Pyrrha what the hell?! You STILL aren't up? Classes start in 15 minutes!" Jaune exclaimed and Pyrrha shot up like a rocket.

"What?! Why didn't you guys wake me up?! Hang on, I will be ready in a minute – Huh?" She stomped her rambling when she noticed that Ren and Nora were still in their pajamas and snickering at her. She then turned her gaze to her leader, crush, and soon to be dead man known as Jaune Goodwitch who was smiling victoriously.

"Works every time hahahaha" Jaune said laughing at the spartan goddess.

Pyrrha however was not amused and she walked over to the blonde and punched him in the arm and got even more infuriated that it didn't even phase him. 'Damn his muscles!' Pyrrha thought in an irritated manner and called him a jerk to which he just smiled more. Pyrrha then looked at him and noticed all he was missing was his button up shirt, he was in his uniform pants and had black undershirt on. It was in this time she wondered why he wore that coat because it really hid his broad chest and arms.

Snapping out of her stupor she glared once more at Jaune and then retrieved her clothes while walking to the bathroom to get ready. After about 30 minutes everyone in team JNPR had their uniforms on and were ready to go get some breakfast before their first class with Professor Port. Jaune was already dreading that, he knew that he was going to be bored out of his mind. The group got their breakfast and sat down at one of the tables but noticed that a certain sister group was not with them.

"Where is team RWBY? Do you think we should have stopped to wake them up?", Pyrrha asked a bit concerned.

"I don't know where they are but I am sure they are up and doing something goofy. Considering Yang and Crater-Face are a part of that team they are probably messing around by decorating or something like that." Jaune said while looking at his scroll and eating his food. Little did he know that was exactly what Team RWBY was doing. He then noticed that Nora had stars in her eyes and was trying to prepare himself for the upcoming tirade.

"Wait we can customize are rooms?! Can we put an oven into ours so Ren can make me pancakes?!" Nora asked as she was bouncing in her seat.

"Ok Nora calm down a little bit it's morning. Second of all there isn't any space for an oven in our dorms that why we have a common room with a kitchen. So, if you really want your pancakes so bad have Ren go there and make them for you." Jaune said calming the girl down as she stopped bouncing but was still smiling. He couldn't go off on her because she was on his team, so he had to figure out a way to peacefully stop her tirades.

Once team JNPR was finished with their breakfast they saw that it was 8:40 and they should be making their way to Professor Port's classroom. They got there and found a nice row to themselves to get out their notebooks and their pencils. Jaune got out his stuff but he had a good feeling that he wasn't going to be needing them for this particular class, call it based on experience. He then felt someone tapping his arm and turned to see Pyrrha with a worried expression.

"Hey do you think one of us should call a member of RWBY? It's five minutes to nine and they still aren't here yet." Pyrrha said worriedly. Before Jaune could respond the very team that was spoken of ran through the door and were catching their breath. They had made it with only a few minutes left to spare.

"There you go." Jaune smirked while Pyrrha just chuckled and shook her head.

The lecture soon began and by God it was everything Jaune thought it was going to be. The man had taken a boastful tone about how huntsman and huntresses were chosen by the divine heavens to protect those who cannot protect themselves from grimm. Of course, he had to have a monologue before he got to the actual point. It wasn't until he said a bad joke and was met with cricket sounds that the man had started to wrap up his first point.

"That is what you are training to become. But first: A story. A tale of a young, handsome man…Me! When I was a boy…" Port started reminiscing about his past.

'Ah shit here we go…' Jaune groaned mentally and pulled out his scroll and turned the volume all the way down. He then put the scroll on side part of the table so Port couldn't see it and started playing Angry Birds. Pyrrha looked at him and just smiled, she thought it felt strange but this guy really was her first real school crush. Back at Sanctum all the guys would trip over themselves to be with her because of her fame, making them very unattractive in her opinion. Here at Beacon though, she found a guy who didn't care about her fame and was cool as hell.

Jaune got through about 4 levels of Angry Birds before Port had neared the end of his story and he put his scroll away. He turned to look at his teammates and saw the looks on their faces. Pyrrha looked like she was bored out of her mind, Ren was sleeping, and Nora seemed to be the only one in the classroom that was happy to hear this story. Looking at team RWBY though, Weiss was the only one taking notes and she was glaring at her teammates who weren't paying attention, specifically Ruby.

"Ah-heh-hem!" Port says as he grabs everyone's attention, considering most of them had dozed off.

"In the end, the Beowulf was no match for my sheer tenacity, and I returned to my village with the best in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero!" Port said as he took a bow to finish his story.

Jaune really felt like he needed to be high to enjoy Professor Port's lectures and stories because right now they were boring him out of his mind. How was this tale of his supposed to make him a better huntsman? He didn't even feel inspired or motivated, the only thing he was motivated to do was take a look at his watch to see how much time was left. They still had forty minutes of this shit left, Jaune groaned mentally and showed Pyrrha his watch and she groaned as well. They turned their attention back to Port who was yelling about something.

"The moral of the story? A true Huntsman must be honorable! A true Huntsman must be dependable! A true Huntsman must be strategic, well-educated, and wise!" Port said as he raised his arm in the air and pointed up.

'This couldn't have been said at the beginning of the class?' Jaune thought as he had a deadpan expression on his face.

"So, who among you believes themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Port had asked the classroom as he finished his ridiculous story. Not a second later though, the hand of Weiss Schnee had shot up like a rocket.

"I do sir!" Weiss exclaimed, her face showing some anger.

'What is her problem?' Jaune thought as he looked to Pyrrha whose faced show the same kind of confusion Jaune had. Then he saw how Weiss seemingly glared at Ruby and he immediately knew what her anger was all about.

'Seriously? She is still mad about not being leader? Grow the hell up.' Jaune thought as Port smiled at the white-haired girl.

"Well then, let us find out!" Port said as he pointed to the glowing red eyes surrounded by shadow that was shaking the cage that traps it.

"Step forward and face your opponent!" Port encourages Weiss and she goes to change into her combat outfit. About five minutes later she came back with her combat outfit on and her weapon in her hand. She prepared to fight the demon that was in the cage, while her teammates were encouraging her on.

"Go Weiss!" Yang cheered as she raised her fist.

"Fight well!" Blake cheered as she was waving a small flag.

"Yeah, represent Team RWBY!" Ruby cheered but she received a glare from her partner.

"Ruby! I'm trying to focus!" Weiss yelled at her partner.

"Oh sorry…" Ruby said as she looked down in sadness. Jaune and his team glared at Weiss not liking the way she treated Ruby. All she was trying to do was encourage her, yet Weiss made it seem like she was causing a huge distraction. Some also wondered why Weiss yelled at Ruby but not her other two teammates. Jaune knew but he didn't want to press it, it would only make matters worse.

"What is Weiss' problem? All Ruby is trying to do is cheer her on." Pyrrha said as she glared at Weiss, her liking of the girl dropping significantly.

"Because Ruby is younger and she is the leader, also less privileged." Jaune said and everyone on his team looked at him with confusion. Jaune looked at them and turned his attention back to Weiss, Port, and the caged monster, giving a mental note to his group that he would explain later.

"Alright let the match…BEGIN!" Port said as he pulled out his axe and slammed it on the cage.

The cage opened to reveal a Boarbatusk that wasted no time charging at Weiss who deflected the attack and rolled to the side. She readied herself for the beasts next move only to have the grimm standing a good distance from Weiss, it was if it was studying her.

'Grimm are not just mindless creatures; they are predators who stake out their prey finding the most efficient way to attack.' Jaune thought as he remembered his mother's wisdom when he first started training to be a huntsman. It was something all hunter's in training needed to understand, killing grimm was not easy, it took skill and precision to kill them.

"Ha-ha! Wasn't expecting that, were you?" Port said while laughing.

"Hang in there, Weiss!" Ruby cheered.

Weiss sped towards the oncoming Boarbatusk, sticking her sword straight at its skill until they collided and her sword got trapped in the grimm's tusks. Jaune thought it was hilarious but didn't show it on the outside. Weiss was still hanging on to the hilt of her sword and was being tossed around like a rag doll as she struggled to get the sword back. Jaune covered his mouth to prevent the laugh that was going to escape him, Pyrrha did the same thing.

"Bold, new approach, I like it!" Port exclaimed.

"Come on, Weiss, show it who's boss!" Ruby cheered.

Weiss turned and glared at Ruby, which caused the Boarbatusk to turn its head and rip the sword form her grip. Myrtenaster lands far away from Weiss who was knocked back by the grimm's tusks.

"That is why you fail." Jaune whispered and Pyrrha giggled. That wouldn't have happened if Weiss didn't turn to glare at Ruby.

"Oh-ho! Now what will you do without your weapon?" Professor Port asked.

Weiss looked up just in time to see the Boarbatusk charging at her again, in which she rolled out of the way just in time to avoid getting trampled. She rushed to her sword and slid to get it back in her hand. Now she was ready to go back on the offensive.

"Weiss! Go for its stomach! There is no armor underneath!" Ruby said as she tried to help her partner, only to receive a glare in return.

"Stop telling me what to do!" Weiss yelled at Ruby who looked hurt by her rebuttal.

"Oh yeah just yell at her like she is an annoyance, it's not like she is right and is trying to help or anything." Jaune said and his team agreed with him. They were getting sick of Weiss' attitude and how she treated their young friend.

Meanwhile, the Boarbatusk leapt into the air and started a rolling into a ball, spinning rapidly in the air and landed on the ground, constantly spinning. It was doing this to gain speed until finally it launched itself at Weiss, coming closer and closer until Weiss made one of her circle things. The circle blocked the roll and she turned the circle blue after it was black to drive her sword into the Boarbatusk's stomach. It squealed in pain and falls silent as it disintegrates, and Weiss gasps in relief.

"Bravo! Bra-Vo It appears we are indeed in the presence of a true Huntress-in-training!" Port started as Weiss stood up at attention with pride, to which Jaune rolled his eyes.

"I'm afraid that is all the time we have for today. Be sure to cover the assigned readings, and…stay vigilant! Class dismissed!" Port concluded his lesson. 'Thank GOD' Jaune thought as he and his team got up. They noticed Weiss storming to the exit past her teammates and Ruby went after her. Team JNPR and the remaining two of Team RWBY wondered what was going on. Then Ren looked at Jaune.

"Hey Jaune, what did you mean when you said Weiss' problem was Ruby being the leader and being less privileged?" Ren asked and everyone else looked at him wanting to know that too, and he responded.

"Weiss is the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, meaning she has had tutors, professional trainers, etc. to get where she is today. Also, considering her family is wealthy she has probably gotten everything she wanted with very little backtalk or problem. So in her mind, she should be the leader because of all of her training and background. Then here comes Ruby, a fifteen-year-old who was moved two years into Beacon, more skilled and smarter than Weiss when it comes to battle and is the leader even though she has childish tendencies. Weiss is pissed because of that and because her Dad can't do a damn thing about it." Jaune finished as he continued to look where Weiss had stormed off to.

The others thought about what Jaune said and had to agree with them. They all knew about Weiss' lineage and ever since she got here, she had been acting like a spoiled brat. Just because she had all these opportunities does not make her better than anyone else. Hell, Pyrrha was a world champion and she was the friendliest out of all of them! They walked their way to the cafeteria to get snacks since they had a little time off before their combat class. As they were walking Jaune saw Weiss storming off again and looked to see Ruby talking to Professor Ozpin. Jaune turned to the direction of Weiss and felt Pyrrha's hand on his shoulder.

"Hey are you not coming?" Pyrrha asked Jaune concerned.

"You guys go ahead I will catch up. Something that I need to do, even though God knows I don't want to." Jaune said pointing in the direction were Weiss was going, in which Pyrrha smiled and patted him on the shoulder. She was glad that he was her leader, though a bit anti-social he would always do the right thing.

Jaune walked in the direction Weiss was going until he was outside and saw her leaning on the balcony. She turned her head and saw him and immediately scowled. He rolled his eyes and walked closer to her with his arms crossed.

"What do you want?" Weiss said angrily, she still didn't like this guy even if he was Professor Goodwitch's son. No, ESPECIALLY that he was Professor Goodwitch's son.

"To ask you what your plan is." Jaune said simply and Weiss looked at him with confusion.

"What do you mean?" Weiss asked as Jaune rolled his eyes.

"I mean what is your plan? You aren't the leader and your clearly pissed about it so what you are gonna do?" Jaune asked curiously. Weiss glared at him.

"I am going to go to Professor Ozpin and show him why making that child a leader was a big mistake!" Weiss said seriously and Jaune looked at her like she was an idiot.

"So let me get this straight, you weren't picked as leader and that makes you upset that Ruby was but only because she is younger than you. And instead of trying to be a good teammate, you are going to storm up to Professor Ozpin's office and demand that he make you leader instead?" Jaune said skeptically and Weiss nodded her head.

"What makes you think he is going to agree with you? What do you actually think his response to that is going to be?" Jaune asked and Weiss widened her eyes and lowered her head, she hadn't thought of that.

"Well I-" She started but was interrupted by Jaune.

"NOTHING that's what! Here is the thing princess, if you go up to his office stomping your feet and demanding this of him he won't see you as a huntress at all. He's going to see you as some brat who thinks that she should be made leader because of what her family did for her. And to be honest I think that is what is really makes you mad." Jaune said as she widened her eyes.

"W-What do you mean?" Weiss said as she was nervous to where Jaune was going with this.

"You aren't angry at Ruby because she is younger, or because of her childish tendencies. You are mad because you aren't the leader and your family can't do a damn thing about it. Even if you get on the phone with your father and complain and ask him to talk to Ozpin, Ozpin won't do a damn thing to change it. The other reason why you are mad? You had all these tutors and privileges, but Ruby got moved two years and she showed more skill and leadership than you at initiation. Sound about right?" Jaune said as he looked at Weiss expectantly, who looked down and then back up at Jaune.

"Ok fine…maybe that does make me mad, but that is easy for you to say! You are Glynda Goodwitch's son and you are on a team with Pyrrha! Yet you don't act like you have a care in the world, and Pyrrha isn't mad that she isn't the leader. So how is it you have a mother who is the Deputy Headmistress and things go your way, but I am the heiress of the Schnee Dust Company and it doesn't go my way." She said and Jaune narrowed her eyes at her.

"My mom has nothing to do with this princess, I am on the team I have because I landed close to Pyrrha. I don't know why I am the leader, to be honest I don't want to be the leader, but that doesn't mean I am gonna go waste Ozpin's time about it, it is what is. You are right though; Ruby is a child but she is skilled enough to be leader no matter how much it hurts your pride. So instead of bitching about it, be a good teammate so she doesn't get overwhelmed by her new responsibility. Or don't but know that the leader position will never change with Ozpin around. Also, Ruby is a way better leader than me because she cares about your input whereas I wouldn't give a shit. Later!" Jaune said as he turned around and walked to the cafeteria, leaving Weiss to her thoughts.

Jaune got to the cafeteria where his team and team RWBY were waiting for him at a table. Pyrrha saw him and waved him over, gesturing to a muffin that was sitting on a napkin. Jaune walked over and grabbed it gratefully.

"Hey, you were gone for a while. We got 10 minutes before combat class so I grabbed you this muffin, what's going on? What happened with Weiss?" Pyrrha asked and the others wanted to know this as well, especially Ruby. Jaune just shrugged and responded.

"Thanks for the muffin partner. As for Weiss, I just told her what it is. She can have that attitude all she wants, nothing is gonna change. It is up to her to get with the program or not, but if she doesn't then you guys might have to step in." Jaune gestured to Yang and Blake, seeing as though she already conveyed what she felt about Ruby.

Yang and Blake both nodded and the rest of Team JNPR looked proud to have a leader to step up and put an end to the nonsense that Weiss was showing. They got up to go to Glynda's combat class and Jaune was dreading it. He knew that his mother was gonna call on him to do something he did not want to do, hell she pretty much confirmed it last night with that text message. They all got into the classroom and sat down, Glynda saw Jaune and immediately smirked at him, Jaune groaned mentally. They then saw Weiss come to the classroom with her head down and an unreadable expression on her face and she sat down next to Blake and Ruby. They all decided to leave her alone and listen to Glynda.

"Welcome to your first day of Combat Class everyone. This period will be focused on direct one on one combat fighting. Today, as like every other day, I will randomly choose anyone to fight unless someone wants to fight a particular person by choice. With that being said, does anyone have any requests?" Glynda asked and nearly 5 seconds after she did a certain brown haired boy responded.

"I want to fight Jaune Goodwitch professor!" Cardin Winchester said as he smiled evily and Jaune who just looked at him. Glynda turned to look at her son, though inwardly she was laughing because she knew what the outcome of this fight was going to be.

"Do you have any objections to that Mr. Goodwitch?" Glynda asked trying her hardest to keep the smirk off her face.

"If it means I can take this itchy uniform off then fine." Jaune said as he shrugged his shoulders and got up, the other students were laughing at what he said.

Jaune and Cardin went and got changed and to retrieve their weapons. Jaune was thrilled to take his uniform off and put on his combat outfit, it was SO much more comfortable. He then grabbed Kikoku and headed back into the combat arena where this Winchester guy was waiting for him. What was this kid's name again? Marvin, Jarvin, Cardin? Yeah it was probably Cardin because of CRDL. Why did the name Winchester seem so familiar though?

"Are both of the combatants ready?" Glynda asked and both of the boys nodded.

"Then let the match…begin!" Glynda started the match and the boys stared each other down.

"I am gonna make mincemeat out of you Jauney-Boy!" Cardin taunted and Jaune just blinked. 'Jauney-Boy? Oh that's creative' he thought and just rolled his eyes.

"Then quit wasting everyone's time and just do it." Jaune said sounding bored.

Cardin growled and charged at Jaune with the intent of crushing him, and Jaune didn't move. Cardin swung his mace down with all of his might, expecting Jaune to block. Imagine his surprise when Jaune dodged out of the way and got behind him. Jaune unsheathed Kikoku and gave a few slashes to Cardin's back causing him to stagger and yelp out in pain.

Cardin growled and started swinging furiously at Jaune who just dodged effortlessly. Cardin's attacks were so clumsy and unrefined that Jaune was surprised Cardin got into Beacon at all.

'I mean what did his parents pull some strings getting him in? But they only way that could happen is if they were on the council -ohhhhhh. Got it.' Jaune now remembered he heard the name Winchester. Councilman Norman Winchester from Atlas, one of those council members who were very self-righteous and thought they had the right to know everything. Probably explained why Cardin had such a high opinion of himself.

Back to the fight though, Jaune doubted he needed to use his semblance with Cardin, but he was getting tired of this fight. Cardin swung again and Jaune dodged, then he slashed in an angle that hit Cardin's chest and weapon hand, causing his mace to fly away from him. Cardin tried to go get it but Jaune tripped him and was holding Kikoku inches from his face.

"I thought I was supposed to be mincemeat?" Jaune questioned as he team cheered for him.

"Yeah that's our fearless leader! Way to go Jaune!" Nora said as Ren and Pyrrha cheered as well. Jaune had backed up what he said to Cardin on the first night, and he did it effortlessly.

"The winner is Jaune Goodwitch! Mister Winchester, you should learn how to use your weapon instead of words to take down an enemy. You also need to watch your guard and aura. Mr. Goodwitch, great work on exploiting Mr. Winchester's weaknesses but try not to make the fight longer than it needs to be." Glynda said to both students, though she was proud of her son for getting his first combat win at Beacon.

"Got it Professor." Jaune said to his mother as he sheathed Kikoku and walked back to his team. Cardin got up and immediately got in Jaune's face. He wasn't going to let him just humiliate him like that and get away with it.

"You just got lucky and fought like a coward! Dodging all of my swings instead of attacking head on! Next time I will put you in the ground!" Cardin yelled as Jaune just narrowed his eyes.

"Don't you dare put your damn finger in my face." Jaune said coldly as he stood tall as a mountain. The rest of team JNPR got up and was coming to help their leader until Glynda spoke up.

"Mr. Winchester that is enough, do not blame your loss on Mr. Goodwitch. Instead work hard to improve and remember that is my son you are talking to." Glynda said with venom in her voice that scared Cardin and a lot of students in the class. Jaune just put a hand up and mouthed "It's cool" to his mother and she calmed down.

"Class is dismissed, Mr. Winchester stay behind." Glynda said as Cardin was slowly walking towards her.

Jaune was walking out and was met by his team and Team RWBY. As he got there he noticed a lot of the girls walking past him looking at him and some were winking at him. Yang then spoke up.

"Great work Jaune! You really showed Cardin who's boss!" She said excitedly, as she walked closer to him. Pyrrha saw this and decided to walk up to him as well.

"Yeah Partner, you really backed up what you said to that arrogant prick at dinner last night. Good thing too, it seems like he won't be a bother to us anymore especially since you wiped the floor with him." She said leaning on him and he laughed.

"Thanks everyone, it was nothing though. Back at Kingsglaive, we had a lot of heavy weapon swinging meatheads like Cardin, they are easy to beat. I don't think we have seen the last of him though, he seems like the type that doesn't know when to quit. Also, we may wanna back off of him, I remembered where I heard the name Winchester. From Norman Winchester, the councilman who is no doubt Cardin's dad. They look the same and even act the same." Jaune said to everyone's surprise.

Cardin's dad was a councilman? Oh great that meant if he pulled more of his crap then they couldn't do anything or else the council would be on them. Weiss decided to speak up.

"You and your mother…you are really close?" Weiss asked and everyone was surprised at this question coming from the Schnee, none more than Jaune himself. Even so, he answered.

"Yeah…we are all we got. Listen I gotta go put Kikoku back in my locker, meet up with you guys later." Jaune said as he smiled at Pyrrha and tapped her shoulder as he walked away.

Pyrrha smiled back but sensed an angry presence near here. It was a certain blonde by the name of Yang Xiao Long who just glared at her and Pyrrha glared back, sparks flying between the two's eyes. Pyrrha just huffed and walked to catch up with her team, she knew she was winning this war after all.

Author Notes:

Hey I'm back with this story, sorry it is kind of long but there was a lot to get through with this chapter. I wanted you to see Jaune's personality despite him being anti-social, as well as the romance between he and Pyrrha. I also wanted to replace the scene Weiss has with Port to one with Jaune because it shows his intelligence and problem solving skills he gets from Glynda. Also, he has two lovely ladies fighting over him, fun! Anyway, you can comment and criticize however you like.
