A couple months went by the attack that happened at the docks, and before they knew it, Jaune and his friends were already in their second semester at Beacon. Relations between Blake and Weiss had been going swimmingly after their disagreement about Faunus, and team RWBY had been closer than ever. Jaune and his team had gotten closer as well and had been training for the Vytal Festival coming up at the end of the year. Jaune had also been doing well with Pyrrha in their relationship, he took her on a few dates, and she enjoyed them. Jaune also noticed that Pyrrha and Yang had been getting along better lately, he always wondered what the problem between them was in the first place.
Unknown to Jaune, Pyrrha had taken the liberty of getting some one on one time with Yang to talk about everything. The problem between them was very simple, they both liked the same guy but one of the girls was his partner and got to spend more time with him. Thus, Jaune started having the same feelings for Pyrrha that she had for him. Pyrrha apologized to Yang about Jaune asking her out but she told her that this mutual dislike for each other could not go on forever. Jaune asking Pyrrha out had nothing to do with him not liking Yang or thinking that she was undatable or anything like that, he just liked Pyrrha.
When they talked, Yang understood and agreed to stop bickering and glaring at Pyrrha and decided they would be friends. True, it did hurt her a bit that Jaune chose Pyrrha over her but the more she thought about it, it made the most sense. Yang never really tried to get Jaune to know her better or vice versa, she just thought that her looks would win him over but apparently not. There was no reason to be mad at Pyrrha, especially because Jaune is the one who made the choice. There were plenty of other fish in the sea, no need to get depressed over one guy.
With that, Yang and Pyrrha made up and became friends and started hanging out. Team RWBY and JNPR got together a lot and had some fun every week. They were pretty much relative teams, they did everything together whether it be eating, studying and sometimes they spared with the other. They were eating lunch together now, like they had done pretty much every day. Everyone seemed to be in high spirits, well except for Blake who was just looking inside of her book.
If Jaune was being perfectly honest, he was starting to get worried about Blake. She was being more anti-social and moody than she normally was, and that was saying something. Though Jaune had a good idea of why she was acting this way, because of the White Fang and Roman Torchwick. Blake was getting along more with Weiss, but that didn't mean that she was over what happened at the docks. Memories of that night brought him back to a conversation he had with his mother in her office when they got back to Beacon and by God she was upset.
"You do realize that if we were back home, you would be grounded until you were thirty yes?" Glynda said angrily to her son who was shrinking under her glare.
"Yes mama, I understand but I had no idea it would escalate to a fight with the White Fang and Roman Torchwick. All we wanted to do was find Blake and get her back to Beacon." Jaune said truthfully and saw his mom have a confused face.
"Wait, what do you mean find Blake? Where exactly did Miss Belladonna go?" Glynda asked her son who looked shocked.
"You didn't know? I thought you guys had cameras all around this place. Blake ran off on Friday night and she never came back, Ruby woke us up this morning and we went to go look for her. RWBY took one side of Vale and we took the other, it took us 12 freakin hours." Jaune said and Glynda eyes widened.
"Oh my, I am sorry we didn't know because we do not really monitor the cameras frequently on weekends, considering you kids go out to Vale so often. But wait Jaune, why exactly did Miss Belladonna run off and why were you at the docks when the White Fang was there?" Glynda asked Jaune who looked down.
Should he tell his mother everything that happened, and why Blake ran off in the first place? His mother was a good woman, but she was also the Deputy Headmistress of Beacon Academy. If she had the information that Blake Belladonna was a former White Fang member, she would probably have to go to Ozpin or the authorities about it. Jaune knew that his mom could not just look the other way, even if Blake was one of his friends. Glynda saw Jaune's hesitation and her motherly side quickly came over her as she walked around her desk and put her hand on Jaune's shoulder.
"Jaune honey, remember that this is me you are talking to. You are not talking to the Deputy Headmistress of Beacon; you are talking to Mom. Please tell me what happened, no one else will know besides Ozpin and that's if I really need to tell him." Glynda said honestly and Jaune nodded.
"Ok, Pyrrha and I were coming back from Vale when we saw a black blur fly past us in the hallway. I couldn't tell what it was but Pyrrha made it out to be Blake, which confused us. We went to RWBY's room and found it open to reveal the other three members with shocked faces. I asked them what happened and apparently Blake and Weiss had been having a severe disagreement about the Faunus and the relations to humans. Weiss got angry due to the war that is going on between the White Fang and her family, causing her to call the White Fang a group of murderers and thieves. Blake responded by saying, 'Maybe we were just tired of being pushed around!'. It was then revealed that Blake is a Faunus and a former White Fang member." Jaune informed his mother who looked shocked beyond belief.
Glynda could not believe what she just heard, but at the same time it made so much sense. Blake Belladonna was indeed a Faunus, it explained why she would get so annoyed by talking about the old wars or racism against Faunus. Her being in the White Fang also explained why she was so anti-social and moody all the damn time, she is pretty much in enemy territory. She probably has no idea how to express her true feelings or bond with a group that is full of humans. Poor girl, the White Fang must not have been what she expected or else she wouldn't be here.
"I see, what else is there Jaune?" Glynda asked her son, she wanted to know everything.
"After they told us what happened, I figured that Blake just needed some time to herself and I thought she would be back before the night was over. Ruby woke us up this morning saying that Blake never came back, and we agreed to help them find her. We looked for hours, but we didn't find a trace of her. In fact, Ren theorized that she just went back to the dorms, so I sent him and Nora back here to look for her which is why they were not at the docks." Jaune told his mom who nodded.
"Alright, but how exactly did you know that Miss Belladonna would be at the docks?" Glynda asked.
"Pyrrha and I stayed behind to see if we could find a trace of Blake, and in doing so we overheard a couple of construction workers talking about cargo freights of dust being unloaded at the docks. We surmised that whoever was robbing the dust stores would try and double up and steal the contents of the freighter, and Blake would be there hoping the thieves were not the White Fang. So, we went there and we found her, unfortunately she was wrong as the White Fang were the thieves and they were backed up by Roman Torchwick. Apparently, they are going on a joint business venture together, that's all we got out of him before the fighting started." Jaune told his mother who looked shocked but put on a serious face.
"So…. Roman Torchwick is working with the White Fang and they are apparently targeting locations where there is dust? What could their motive be? What exactly are they planning to use all of that dust for? Is there anything else you can tell me Jaune?" Glynda asked her son.
"Sorry mom, that is everything that I know but something is worrying me and confuses me. Why would the White Fang work with a human like Roman Torchwick in the first place? Doesn't that defeat the overall point they are trying to make? That equality between the Faunus and Humans can't exist?" Jaune asked his mother who nodded.
"Yes, I wonder about that too, it would seem that they have lost sight of their goal and only want to make humans suffer. While I am still furious at you and your friend's recklessness tonight, I am proud of you Jaune for stopping that crime. You sound like you have been through a lot today, why don't you go back to your room and get some sleep?" Glynda said smiling as Jaune nodded, hugged her and went on his way.
"Oh, one more thing? Why exactly was it only you and Miss Nikos that got back late last night? Where were your other two teammates?" Glynda asked her son with a knowing smirk on her face.
"No comment." Jaune said while blushing and hurried towards the door.
"My little Jaune has a girlfriend! One that is much more pretty and kinder then the old one you had. Oh, I can't wait until the prom pictures, the proposal, becoming a mother-in-law." Glynda said in a sweet-song voice.
"I'm ignoring you!" Jaune said as he went out the door and Glynda just laughed.
Jaune grimaced at that memory, knowing that his mother was aware of his relationship with Pyrrha. She had been teasing him about it ever since that night, Jaune made sure to let Pyrrha know to avoid his mother at all times. God forbid they get an awkward lecture about dating or other stuff down the line. He was also worried if down the line they broke up, what would his mother do? An angry Glynda Goodwitch meant death to her enemies. Speaking of Pyrrha, she was the one who pulled him out of his stupor by nuzzling the side of his face.
"Hey, what's up?" Jaune asked with a smile as Pyrrha smiled back.
"Penny for your thoughts?" Pyrrha asked and Jaune was about to respond until Ruby dropped a giant binder on the table.
"No, apparently I get a giant binder that is about to burst for my thoughts." Jaune said sarcastically and Pyrrha just chuckled while Ruby started speaking.
"Ahem! Sisters, friends, Weiss!" Ruby started but was interrupted by Weiss.
"Hey!" Weiss said insulted and Jaune laughed.
"Fourscore and seven minutes ago I had a dream!" Ruby said happily.
"Oh, this ought to be good." Yang said amused.
"A dream that one day, the four of us would come together as a team and have the most fun anyone has ever had, ever!" Ruby cheered.
"Did you steal my binder?" Weiss asked in an accusing fashion as she narrowed her eyes at Ruby.
"I am not a crook!" Ruby denied even though it said Weiss on the front of the binder, but it was crossed out.
"What are you talking about?" Blake asked curiously.
"I'm talking about kicking off this semester with a bang!" Ruby said excitedly.
"I always kick my semesters off with a Yang! Eh? Guys? Anyone?" Yang tried to get her friends to laugh but was met with crickets and tomato to the face.
"Ok first of all, Yang that was terrible you really need to think about getting some new material. Second of all, Crater-Face you can have the best day ever any day, why does it need to be today?" Jaune asked as Yang stuck her tongue out at him as did Ruby.
"Look guys, it has been a good two weeks and between more exchange students arriving and the tournament at the end of the year, our second semester is going to be great! But classes start back up tomorrow which is why I have taken the time to schedule a wonderful series of events for us today!" Ruby said cheerily.
Jaune understood what Ruby was saying and she honestly made a good point. They should have some fun today considering that classes resume tomorrow, which Jaune was dreading and he knew his team was as well. They had been enjoying their time off, hanging out not studying, Jaune and Pyrrha going on dates, life was good. Soon they would have to go back to Oobleck's rapid fast lectures, Port's boring stories and combat class where Jaune's mother would call on him to do stuff he didn't want to do just for her amusement.
"I don't know whether to be proud or scared of what you have in store." Weiss told Ruby.
"Yeah I'm with the Princess, events that we have been apart of haven't been on the civil side." Jaune said and his team nodded while Yang threw a piece of fruit back.
"I don't know, I think I might sit this one out." Blake said dismissively which caused Jaune to frown.
It would seem that Blake was still not over what happened at the docks, but Jaune had a feeling that something else was going on. The White Fang, just how important was that organization to Blake Belladonna? Jaune had a feeling they were going to find out sooner rather than later, but Weiss' voice broke him from his thoughts.
"Sit out or not, I think however we spend this last day we do is as a team! I for one think –" Weiss started but was interrupted by a pie thrown in her face by Nora.
"Dammit Nora…" Jaune groaned, things were going to escalate he just knew it.
Just like Jaune thought, things had escalated far too quickly. Weiss threw something back at Nora, but she missed and hit someone else. Then that person threw some food and then another person threw something and soon it was all out war. So here Jaune and his team were, stacking the tables together and claiming it as their own while they stared team RWBY down. All of the other students evacuated the cafeteria, not wanting to get involved in the destructive food fight that was about to occur. Standing on the highest peak of the mountain of tables, Nora started laughing like a maniac which honestly creeped Jaune out but went with it anyway.
"AHAHAHAHA! I'm queen of the castle! I'm queen of the castle!" Nora said maniacally while Ruby crushed a carton of milk and took a stand.
"Justice will be swift! Justice will be painful! IT WILL BE DELICIOUS!" Ruby declared as her team rallied behind her.
"Off with their heads!" Nora yelled as Team JNPR started throwing watermelons.
Team RWBY responded by Yang using a couple of turkeys as gauntlets in order to smash the incoming pieces of fruit. Blake took a couple of loafs of bread to use as swords and the two charged for an attack. Yang flinged the turkeys at Jaune who dodged effortlessly and threw a loaf of bread to Pyrrha so that she could take on Blake. Blake and Pyrrha fought for a bit until Pyrrha caught her off guard and used thrusted her piece of bread into Blake knocking her back.
Pyrrha then threw her piece of bread like a spear to hit Blake but was intercepted by Yang who blocked it, however Jaune threw a piece of bread at her which knocked her back. Then came Ruby who was surfing on a lunch tray across the tables before knocking a piece of bread towards Jaune and Pyrrha. Both of them dodged but Ruby's surfing speed was too fast for Pyrrha to avoid contact with her, and she tried to block but was still pushed back. Nora and Ren took on the offensive but where dismantled when Weiss spread ketchup all on the floor causing Ren to slide into the tables like a bowling ball.
Nora gathered her bearings and leaped up grabbing a pole from the rafters and stuck it in a watermelon, so it resembled a hammer. Using her new toy Nora knocked Ruby back and intercepted Weiss who was fighting using a swordfish. The two fought for a few seconds until Nora got the upper hand and delivered a strong swing to Weiss knocking her into the wall. Ruby caught her as she was falling and screamed dramatically.
Yang was back up and running as she grabbed her turkeys and Ren grabbed some celery sticks and both charged at each other. They were evenly matched, but Yang got the upper hand as she gave Ren an uppercut and power drive down to the floor. Nora dashed at Yang and the two were about to strike, but Nora got the quicker hit and sent Yang flying out of the cafeteria. Blake then grabbed a line of sausage and used it to whip Nora to the soda machine and tried to hit Jaune, but he sliced it with that swordfish. Nora then grabbed some soda cans and hurled them at Blake who dodged but they exploded for some reason.
Pyrrha then used her polarity semblance to send the cans flying like a raging storm towards Blake, who despite her best efforts could not dodge and was sent to the wall. Ruby was the only one left standing, she then took a running stance, then she ran at such a fast speed the soda cans had levitated and where following her. She was headed straight for them and Jaune narrowed his eyes, he knew what he had to do.
"Room!" Jaune yelled as his green barrier encompassed the inside of the cafeteria.
As soon as Ruby got close, which was by the second thanks to her semblance, Jaune switched he and his team's position with Ruby. This caused her to run into the wall and the soda and food to be wasted on to her instead of Team JNPR. When it was all said and done, Ruby was on the wall covered in different colors thanks to the soda and food, while Team JNPR was standing victoriously with smiles on their faces.
"Victory is ours!" Jaune said in a dramatic manner which made his team cheer as well. Those smiles went away when a door opened and in came Glynda Goodwitch.
"And now we are dead." Jaune said bluntly as Pyrrha hid behind him and Nora hid behind Ren.
Glynda glared at the children, her son especially because she fully expected that he would have put a stop to this. Nevertheless, she used her telekinetic semblance to put the cafeteria back to the way it was before this food fight had happened. She understood that kids needed to have fun occasionally but did their fun really need to include destroying the cafeteria? Once everything was back together, she wore that glare of hers once again.
"Children please, do not play with your food!" Glynda said with anger that doubled when Yang came crashing through the ceiling and destroyed a table. A hand on her shoulder was decreasing the anger though.
"Let it go." Ozpin commanded and she sighed.
"They are supposed to be the defenders of the world." Glynda said exasperatedly.
"And they will be but for now they are still children, so why not let them play the part? After all, it is not a role that they will have forever." Ozpin said as he walked away.
Glynda thought about what the headmaster said as she looked at the students laughing and smiling. It was true, they were still kids but that did not mean that they were not supposed to act like hunters. She looked at her soon who looked back and grinned at her, to which she rolled her eyes in amusement. It was good to see Jaune breaking out of his shell, though she would have preferred if that did not involve destroying the cafeteria.
After the food fight, Team JNPR and Team RWBY went back to their dorms to shower and to get the food off of them. Jaune went first because he took showers quickly and he wanted some time to watch anime and chill with Pyrrha before they got into anymore of Ruby's activities. After Jaune was done with his shower he lied down on his bed and started to watch Bleach while Pyrrha went and took hers. Once Pyrrha was done she got in Jaune's arms and cuddled with him while Nora and Ren took their showers.
The two watched Bleach together, exchanging kisses every couple of minutes or so. Pyrrha really didn't understand what was happening in any of the shows that Jaune watched and when he tried to explain it to her she still didn't get it. It didn't matter though, as long as she was in Jaune's arms and was kissing him she didn't care what they did. Plus, it wasn't like all Jaune wanted to do with her was watch anime, he took her on various dates which showed her that he was very creative and liked to try new things. Pyrrha didn't get anything like this at Sanctum, so she was enjoying every minute of it.
Ren and Nora got done with their showers and team JNPR went to meet back with Team RWBY to join them in the activities that Ruby had planned. Most of them were stupid but hey at least they had fun while doing them, it could have been worse. During the board game section of Ruby's plans Jaune won most of them, considering that he was so good at strategy. They also played some video games that Pyrrha won the most, which was very surprising to everybody in the room. All in all, it was a pretty fun day that they all needed since classes started back up tomorrow. Once it was done, the groups said goodbye to each other and went to sleep.
The next day classes resumed and Jaune could make the case that they didn't even have a break. Everything was the same, just like he thought it was going to be. Oobleck was the first lecture they had, and he might have even gotten faster at talking much to everyone's annoyance. Port had even more boring stories which shocked everyone in class seeing as though they thought he would have run out by now. The only good class they had was combat class with Jaune's mom seeing as though a lot of people wanted to fight in order to get ready for the Vytal Festival coming up at the end of the semester.
Needless to say, the day had been a pain for Team JNPR and they wanted to relax but they felt like they should go over the notes from the day to make sure they fully understood what was explained. So here they were now, in the library going over notes well only Pyrrha and Jaune were. Nora was sleeping and Ren engrossed in a book. Pyrrha was looking through her notes while Jaune was listening to the audio tapes he made of Oobleck. Even at .25 speed he couldn't understand what the hell this guy was saying, so he turned to his girlfriend.
"Hey babe, can you understand anything of what Oobleck is saying? I have it on the lowest speed that this thing goes on and still no dice." Jaune said giving his Pyrrha the other earbud.
"Sorry love, even I can't understand what he is saying. Maybe he will post notes on the website like he did last time?" Pyrrha suggests while smiling, she loved when he called her babe.
"Ugh…I swear to God one of these days I'm going to destroy that coffee maker of his and maybe buy some tranquilizer darts. Hey, do you see that? Look outside." Jaune pointed to the window and Pyrrha looked and widened her eyes.
In the sky there were dozens of airships flying around in Beacon's airspace and one of them was landing close to Professor Ozpin's office. The ships looked Atlesian, was this for the Vytal Festival? No, it couldn't be, that was months away and even if it was then why all the airships? Did someone of the Atlas military need a word with Ozpin? There were a lot of questions that were going through their minds, but they hoped it was not about anything bad.
"Wow, it's like half of the military is outside. I wonder what for…" Pyrrha said in wonder.
"Looks to me like Ironwood is here, probably got something to talk about with Professor Ozpin and Mom. God, I hope Mom doesn't make me go down there and talk to the guy." Jaune groaned as Pyrrha looked shocked.
"Wait, you have met the general before?" Pyrrha asked her boyfriend who nodded.
"Yeah, a couple of times when mom dragged me to those Boule dinners in Atlas, God those were terrible. He was always critiquing my fighting style and giving me various reasons as to why I should choose Atlas Academy for huntsman training. I just nodded at everything he said with little backtalk as I just wanted the guy to leave me alone, I think he wanted me to go to Atlas to hold it over my Mom. I just know that if I get called down there it will be a very awkward conversation." Jaune said and Pyrrha nodded and was about to respond until they heard a noise.
"Yes! Fear the almighty power of my forces! Cower as they pillage your homes and weep as they take your children from your very arms!" Weiss said psychotically as Jaune and Pyrrha looked at one another.
"Is Weiss on crack?" Jaune asked as Pyrrha rolled her eyes.
"I am going to say no but I admire your creative side. Let's go see what they are up to and if we can shut them up." Pyrrha said sweetly and Jaune just nodded.
The two left Nora to her snoring and Ren to his reading to go see what Team RWBY was up to and why they were causing such a ruckus. Apparently, they were playing some kind of board game that involved the kingdoms of Remnant and each girl was representing a different Kingdom. Weiss was apparently close to destroying Yang's kingdom bringing her one step closer to conquering Remnant. That is, until Yang pulled out some kind of trap card and destroyed Weiss' army.
"Your armies have been destroyed!" Yang said happily while Weiss dropped down to earth.
"I hate this game of emotions we play!" Weiss cried.
"Be strong Weiss, we'll make it through this together!" Ruby cried as she hugged Weiss.
"Shut up, don't touch me!" Weiss said dramatically as she hugged Ruby back causing Jaune and Pyrrha to laugh.
"Yo you four, last time I checked the library was for reading and studying and most of all for being quiet. Not a place for you to make noise and crush Weiss' dreams even though that was pretty funny." Jaune said amused and Weiss glared at him.
"Well excuse us but this game requires a certain level of tactical cunning that I seriously doubt that you possess." Weiss said snidely.
"Uh Weiss, you attacked your own naval fleet two turns ago." Yang said bluntly as Weiss gave her annoyed look and Jaune laughed.
"Thanks fisticuffs, but maybe Weiss has a point though. It's not like a came up with a plan to kill those grimm in the forest, or figured out along with my girlfriend where Blake was, or deciphered that I would move a couple inches to the left as you falling out of the sky or anything like that. Wait…yeah I did." Jaune said smugly with a shit-eating grin on his face that grew as Weiss glared.
"How do you even tolerate him?" Weiss asked Pyrrha who rolled her eyes.
"The real question is how does he tolerate me? All the dates he takes me on, all the training that I demand we do together, I must really be wearing him out. Oh well, at least I can reward him with kisses." Pyrrha said sweetly as she captured Jaune's lips and hugged him.
"Now if only kisses were currency…" Jaune said with a groan as Pyrrha hit him playfully in the shoulder.
Weiss looked at the couple with confusion on her face, she really didn't see how they were together. Pyrrha was a tournament champion, she had so much stature and fame she could have anyone that she wanted, and she picked Jaune? Weiss would admit that Jaune was somewhat attractive, but he was so laid back and a bit anti-social that she wouldn't be surprised if he never got a girlfriend. He was Glynda Goodwitch's son for God's sake and he really didn't seem to care about the status that he could have if he took advantage of it. So, what was it that drew Pyrrha to him? Maybe she didn't know Pyrrha as well as she thought she did. Suddenly, a voice drew her out of her thoughts.
"Sup losers." Sun said with a smile turning everyone's attention to him and they noticed he had a friend with him.
"Hey Sun!" Ruby said happily.
"Ruby, Yang, Blake, Pyrrha, Jaune, and Ice Queen." Sun addressed them and Weiss glared at him.
"Why does everyone keep calling me that?" Weiss complained.
"It's definitely not because of the tiara." Jaune said with a smirk and dodged a pencil that Weiss threw at him.
"I never got the chance to formally introduce you to my old friend." Sun said pointing to the guy next to him.
Jaune got one good look at the guy and he could tell he was strong and probably cool to hang out with. He was the same height as Sun, had blue hair and was wearing a red coat with a black tie along with gray slacks. There was also something on his back that was clearly his weapon that was a mech-shift.
"Uh, aren't libraries for reading?" The boy asked.
"Thank you!" Ren said as he threw his arms up.
"Yeah, what he said." Jaune said as he pointed his thumb over to Ren and laughed.
"Hey, don't be such a nerd!" Sun told his teammate who looked offended.
"I prefer intellectual actually, anyway I am Neptune." The new guy now known as Neptune said while waving.
"So Neptune, where are you from?" Weiss asked curiously but Jaune caught something.
Weiss was blushing, you could see the pink tinge on her cheeks. Holy crap, the Ice Queen had a crush! Wow this happened way sooner than Jaune thought it would happen, considering that Weiss was very judgmental and thought most people were beneath her. It was true that she was getting better though, but some habits will not die so easily. Jaune looked at his girlfriend and it seemed that Pyrrha was just as shocked as he was.
"Haven, but I do not believe we have met. You got a name snow angel?" Neptune asked smoothly.
"Um, I'm Weiss." Weiss answered and was clearly flustered.
"There you go Weiss; you got a nickname upgrade!" Jaune said while clapping and the others snickered while Weiss threw a book at Jaune who caught it with ease.
"You know, I never took you for the board game playing type." Sun said to Blake who stood up.
"Right well, I think I am done playing actually. I will see you guys later." Blake said as she shoved Sun aside and left the library.
Everyone watched her leave with a frown on their faces, it would appear that Jaune's fears were coming true. Blake still was not over what had happened at the dock's and she is slowly isolating herself because of these feelings she had. Jaune had the feeling that something drew the White Fang to Blake and caused her to join because of that cause, but something happened to cause her to defect. Whatever it was, the revelation that the White Fang was working with Roman Torchwick caused it to get worse. Jaune then noticed Pyrrha was nudging his shoulder.
"Did you see the look in her eyes? It was the same as the night at docks." Pyrrha said worriedly.
"Yep…something tells me we are about to do this whole damn thing all over again." Jaune groaned as he feared what might happen soon.
