Arnold:

I was really upset back there because this whole week has been horrifying, but that doesn't justify the words I said to you and I'm really sorry...

I-I think you're really beautiful and you're sweet, smart, overall amazing!

So you have every right to be angry with me.

If you want to beat me up, go right ahead.

But after you beat me up, I want to skip the rest of the day here and take you somewhere with me.

Helga:

Arnold...

I-What?! Skipping school? Since when did you become a rebel?

Arnold:

Yesterday.

If you're nervous going with me ...I understand.

I just thought you would want to since school is about to end for today and...I do owe you from hurting your feelings last night.

Helga:

I don't know.

Where will we be going?

Arnold:

To the park.

There's an area there that I used to sit alone at and listen to music. It's very beautiful and I wanna take you there...

Want to join me?

Arnold holds out his hand to Helga as he stares into her eyes.

Helga slowly grabs Arnold's hand.

So I'm assuming you have forgiven me and won't beat me up?

Helga:

Shut up.

Helga tries to hide her smile, but Arnold notices.

Together , they sneak out through the window.

Arnold ran with Helga holding her hand still.

They arrive at the park.

They sit on the grass near a beautiful pond.

Helga looks around.

Helga:

You're right, Arnoldo.

It is very beautiful here.

Arnold stares at Helga, who feels him staring at her. She looks at him back.

What?!

Arnold:

You are Cecile.

Helga covers her face.

Helga:

Oh, no. Not this.

Arnold:

So you DO remember our date.

Helga:

Of course I do!

It was a nerve-wracking night.

Arnold:

It was also very beautiful.

Arnold places his hand on Helga's, who blushes.

I never forgotten that night as the shoe you have given me is still in my room. I've hidden it away, where no one else can touch it. It is one of my closest possessions just like my blue hat and your pink book.

Helga:

Arnold, I'm sorry for pretending to be your pen pal.

I should've been honest with you at the time.

Arnold:

It's okay. I enjoyed our date.

Helga and Arnold look around before looking back at each other.

Helga:

Arnold?

Arnold:

Yes, Helga?

Helga:

Y-You know I don't mean to bully you, right?

I...I have insecurities of my own. Major insecurities that I need to work on.

Arnold:

Yes. I know now.

Helga:

I'm sorry that I'm so difficult.

I really really do love you, Arnold.

I just have a hard time showing my love for you.

I get so shy...

I hate myself every time I fail to treat you nicely and with respect.

I want to be like Lila and the other girls so badly, but I just can't.

This isn't me...

I don't like wearing these frilly and silly dresses!

I don't really like wearing my hair down and I really don't like being sweet all the time!

I mean...with you...you know what I say I don't mean to hurt you. I do...oh...this might be so confusing to you.

Look, those names I called you last night.. I'm so sorry. I really didn't mean—

Arnold suddenly kisses Helga.

He backs out of it and they look at each other for a few seconds.

Then they kiss again.

This time with more passion as if they couldn't wait.

Arnold:

I'm sorry again...I really couldn't wait.

Helga:

Shut up and finish kissing me!

Says Helga, who pulls Arnold's collar.

Arnold continues to kiss Helga, but he suddenly stops.

What are we...Arnold?

What are we doing?

Arnold looks down.

Arnold:

I don't know...

Helga:

I'll miss you when you're gone this weekend.

I loved your boarding house and I felt safe in it.

Arnold:

I'm glad you did.

Helga:

And I haven't received a text or call back from Pheebs all day.

I hope she's doing okay.

Arnold:

Yeah..

Arnold closes his eyes for a second, when he lied again.

A few hours pass with Helga and Arnold holding hands in the grass as they are stretched out.

Arnold sits up and turns over to Helga, who is still laying down on the grass.

She blushes at the sight of Arnold very close to her.

He is smiling and looking straight into her eyes.

He holds on to her hands as their legs touch.

Helga:

Arnold. W-What are you doing?

Arnold leans closer into Helga's face.

Arnold:

Giving a beautiful girl another kiss she deserves.

The closer he gets, Helga begins to close her eyes slowly.

They kiss again and moving from her lips, Arnold kisses Helga all over her face.

This makes her laugh.

Then they stare again at each other's eyes.

And before you question...

Yes, I do love you, too, Helga.

A lot.

And I don't care what you look like.

I'll always love you just the way you are.

Helga doesn't believe what she's hearing.

Tears of joy come rushing down her face.

Arnold lays back down on the grass next to Helga.

They hold each other's hand and close their eyes under shade from the trees.

Arnold and Helga walk to the boarding house, when school is about over.

Miles and Stella let them in and Helga and Arnold rush upstairs together to Arnold's room.

For hours, Helga writes poetry for Arnold and recites them.

Arnold listens closely to Helga reciting them as he snuggles up in his blankets to hide his blushing red face.

Helga and Arnold spend time together doing different activities.

They look at their old yearbooks from middle school at P.S. 118, play video games, and simply rest on the floor near each other as they hold hands.

Helga:

I never thought I would have fun with you.

I-I mean like...you know... us hanging out together. I always been so mean to you and avoided spending time with you to make it seem like I hated you.

Arnold:

I know what you mean. I didn't think we would ever get this close...

A book falls from Arnold's shelf.

He grabs it from the floor.

Oh , it's my Grandpa's old year book.

Why is it in here?

He dust it off and opens it to see the twelve kids in Grandpa's class with their names.

Helga walks to Arnold and looks in the yearbook with him.

Helga:

I'd be bored to death if I was living in his time! Sheesh.

Arnold points to Grandpa Phil's picture with his name underneath.

Arnold:

There he is!

My Grandpa.

Then Arnold looks a few rows down to see Grandma Gertie.

No way.

Helga:

What is it?

Arnold points to Gertie's picture.

Arnold:

That's my grandma! Her name was Gertie. I didn't know she went to the same school as grandpa.

...that most likely means...grandma was the girl grandpa told me about that used to bully him in school. I can't believe they ended up marrying each other.

Helga and Arnold look at each other, blushing.

Helga:

Well, would you look at the time, Arnoldo?

It's time for us to take our showers.

You go first.

Arnold:

Okay, my angel.

Helga blushes from the unexpected name "angel" Arnold called her. Arnold quickly leaves his room with his clothes.

Helga:

D-Don't call me that, football head!

Helga takes out her phone and calls Rhonda.

Instead, Rhonda's mother, Brooke, picks up the phone.

Brooke:

Yes. Hello?

Helga:

This isn't Rhonda? Who is this??

Brooke:

I'm Rhonda's mother. Who is this?

Helga:

Rhonda's classmate.

She had a girl over named Phoebe.

Where is she??

Brooke:

I don't know. Please don't call my daughter again.

Helga:

Look, bimbo, you know good and well where she is!

There is something fishy going on. Get Rhonda on the phone.

Brooke:

Young lady, you don't tell me what to do. Do you know who I am??

You are to not call my daughter again and don't you dare show up here if you know what's good for you.

Brooke hangs up on Helga.

Helga:

Snooty bitch.

Helga crosses her arms.

There's something going on. I must let Arnold know.

Arnold comes back a couple minutes later after taking his shower.

He is in his pajamas.

Arnold!

Arnold:

Hm? You missed me already?

Helga:

I-Of course, I have!

But there's something I wanna tell you.

Pheobe hasn't been answering her phone and then there was that nude sent to the whole school!

The last place she was at was Rhonda's house. You know that.

I'm worried for her... so I'm going to march my way to Rhonda's mansion and get my friend back!

Wanna come with?

We can sneak out again.

Arnold places his hands on Helga's shoulders with a frightened look on his face.

Arnold:

No, don't go!

Helga:

But why not?

I am not afraid of Rhonda's parents.

Hmph.

Arnold:

They want you to show up.

Don't go. Please, don't go.

Helga:

What's bugging you?

Arnold:

Nothing...

Just forget about Phoebe.

Helga:

Forget about Phoebe?

Last night you were just all about her—wait...

You wanted to tell me something regarding her.

What was it?

Arnold:

It's nothing, Helga.

Why won't you get your clothes out and take a shower?

Helga:

Don't avoid it, football head!

You were going to tell me something last night about Pheebs.

What. Was. It?

Arnold:

(In his mind)

Should I tell her?

I was so ready to tell her last night , but now

Im not so sure.

She wants to go to Rhonda's house and I can't have that happen or they'll capture her.

It's a trap!

(To Helga)

I-I have to start packing for my weekend trip to San Lorenzo.

Arnold tries to walk away from Helga's sight, but she blocks him.

Helga:

Oh, no you don't. I will bug you every second about telling me what you know!

Arnold:

Helga...

(Sighs)

You're right.

I was going to tell you this last night, but we gotten into an argument and now I feel like I should keep it away from you to protect you.

Helga:

But it'll only make me want to go down to Rhonda's house even more.

Arnold:

And I don't want you to!

Helga:

Then tell me what's going on!

Where's Phoebe??

Arnold:

Phoebe is in trouble. Big trouble.

Helga:

What do you mean by "big trouble"? What kind of trouble?

Arnold:

I refuse to tell you for your own good.

Helga sighs.

Helga:

I can't with you!

Arnold:

Helga, please, I can't lose you!

I refuse to lose you like how I lost everybody else!

Just listen to me, please, don't stop by Rhonda's house.

Please.

Helga looks at Arnold's face.

He looks very desperate and worried.

Helga:

Is she dead...

Arnold:

Who? Phoebe...? No...but Rhonda might be.

Helga:

What? What happened??

Arnold:

I ...may have placed rat poison in that cake.

Helga steps back from Arnold.

Helga, please don't be afraid of me. I had to try to get rid of Rhonda to protect you and other girls. I-I couldn't save Phoebe.

Look at me...you can trust me.

I wouldn't hurt you...

Helga:

So Phoebe is dead , too??

Arnold:

No! I-I don't know...

Helga:

It'll be hard for me to let go of Phoebe...

As for you...I trust you, Arnold.

You had to do what you had to do.

Arnold:

Does this mean you won't be going to Rhonda's house?

Helga:

I won't go.

Arnold:

Not ever?

Helga:

Not ever.

Arnold:

Come here, my angel.

Arnold and Helga hug each other.

Helga is enjoying the hug with her eyes closed.

Arnold sneaks a kiss on Helga's cheek and then runs away to his bed.

Helga touches her cheek that he kissed.

Helga:

You get back here, football head!

Helga and Arnold chase each other around the room with pillows being eventually thrown at each other.

Hours pass, Helga took a shower and is in her pajamas, and then falls asleep on the floor with Arnold.

They are holding hands.

Morning arrives and Helga overslept.

She wakes up and sees that almost everything in Arnold's room is gone.
