After 10 years have passed of sending letters to one another and a few video calls , Helga and Arnold are in love more than ever.
Through the letters mainly, Helga became more affectionate and nicer to Arnold.
She is also very honest with him and tells him all the times she schemed to get her way to be with him.
All of those things just made Arnold want Helga even more.
He felt so blind after missing the signs of Helga always loving him back in middle school.
Besides writing to Helga, Arnold spent his time learning to make medicine from his parents, learning Spanish from the green eyed people, learning survival tips, journaling about his crazy adventures in the jungle, finding treasure, and all while attending college and receiving a degree in Psychology.
When left alone in a serene and beautiful area in the jungle, Arnold reads the poetry from the little pink book.
He has his own home in San Lorenzo with Abner, his pet pig, keeping him company and sometimes his parents and the green eyed people visiting him.
He adopted one little girl from poverty and named her "Phoebe" after hearing that Rhonda's family was arrested for their association with sex trafficking.
Phoebe did not survive her time captured.
Rhonda died one week after eating the cake of rat poison.
The crime was never linked to Arnold, but instead Phoebe.
Phoebe's parents called Helga and told her about their daughter's death.
Helga refused to eat for weeks and finally understood why Arnold didn't want her to go to Rhonda's house.
Gerald is released from prison and had to move away from America to another country to feel safe.
He becomes a singer and would perform on boats, small festivals, and restaurants.
He has a hard time moving on from Phoebe and accepting her death.
Gerald and Arnold still talk to each other through video calls.
Lila dies from anorexia way after one week that Helga thought back in 9th grade and Eugene killed himself after feeling that he was a burden from his injuries. Nadine along with Sheena had committed suicide by drowning because they have been traumatized their entire lives-especially after the sex trafficking abuse and rape.
Helga went to college for literature and got a degree .
With Arnold being away and Phoebe's death, she ended up spending a month at a mental institution after a failed attempt of trying to hang herself, which Arnold was furious at Helga's attempt, but he sent her chocolate after her release.
When she was released, Helga started selling artwork on the side and would attend poetry shows.
She also enjoys her fair share of sports and loves attending football games, wrestling matches, and baseball games.
Helga would still have her panic attacks , but her locket of Arnold would calm her down and she was to always attend extra sessions with Dr. Bliss.
Helga still lives with Miriam, who lets her do whatever she wants, but Helga dreams of getting her own house.
Money is tight for her as a small time journalist for a small news channel.
Helga spends most of her life alone and often cries because of being lonely.
But bad news has struck.
Arnold plans to stay in San Lorenzo a little longer in hope to receive a PhD in Psychology, but he receives a letter from Helga that she is dying from breasts cancer.
Arnold leaves San Lorenzo and returns to Hillwood to see Helga.
He drives a rented car to the hospital with his little daughter, Phoebe.
Helga is all alone for days in the hospital bed.
Her mother didn't visit her at all.
Arnold:
Stay outside the door, Phoebe.
If you're quiet enough, I'll give you a lollipop.
Little Phoebe:
Yay!
Arnold peeks his head out the door before showing his whole body in the doorway .
Helga looks very different to Arnold.
He can barely recognize her.
She is very skinny and pale.
She has some hair left, but she is mainly bald.
Under her eyes were dark.
Helga:
Arnold, is that you?
If so, don't look at me.
Arnold walks closer to Helga , who is resting in bed.
He ignores Helga and still looks at her , anyways.
Tears start to form in his eyes.
He kneels down and holds Helga's hand.
Arnold:
It's me, Helga.
It's Arnold...
Helga starts crying as she looks at Arnold.
Helga:
I did not think you would come.
Arnold:
Of course, angel. You are everything to me and I won't lose you to this.
I refuse for death to take you.
It won't win, I promise, Helga.
Arnold wipes Helga's tears.
Helga:
I'm so ugly right now.
I pictured our grand reunion as me all dressed up and pretty and fucking healthy...
Life never loved me.
Arnold:
You're always beautiful to me, Helga.
I don't care if your hair is gone and that you have lost weight.
I don't care.
I'm happy that I am here with you and we'll get through this together.
Helga:
Arnold...you know I'm going to die.
Arnold:
Don't say that.
Helga:
It's true.
Arnold:
Don't say that!
Helga:
What else do you want me to say??
Do you want me to keep lying to myself, football head??
There's no looking on the bright side with fucking cancer.
It was the doctor's words. I'm going to die and I won't be able to see you again.
This world is cruel, but you made my world beautiful.
Arnold squeezes Helga's hand and cries even more.
Arnold:
I will not lose you.
Arnold pulls out a ring and as soon as Helga sees it, she covers her mouth.
Helga Geraldine Pataki...
Helga:
Please, Arnold...don't...
Arnold:
Marry me.
Let's get married right now.
I bought myself a ring.
Arnold pulls out another ring for him and places it on his finger.
We don't need any priest, or guests, cake, presents. None of that. Right here, right now. I wanna marry you. I love you, Helga, and I won't lose you.
Helga:
You're such a football head.
In that case...yes, I do wanna marry you, too.
I really want to.
Arnold smiles at Helga and places the ring on her finger as he wears his.
Arnold kisses Helga's hand , where her ring is.
He gently pulls his arm for her to rise.
Arnold:
There's a place I want to show you.
Helga:
Now? I'm not supposed to leave here.
Arnold:
Then we'll sneak out.
My daughter, Phoebe, is with us.
She'll love where I'll be taking you two.
Helga:
She's here?? Quick, let me see her.
Arnold turns to the doorway.
Arnold:
It's okay. You can come out, Phoebe.
Phoebe doesn't come in.
I have your lollipop.
Phoebe came rushing into the room and hugs Arnold by his leg, then she tries reaching for the lollipop in his hands.
What do you say?
Little Phoebe:
Thank you, daddy.
Arnold gives Little Phoebe the lollipop and she immediately takes the wrapping off and places the lollipop in her mouth.
Helga looks at Little Phoebe and Arnold.
She smiles at them .
Helga:
I can tell that you spoil her.
Arnold:
I try not to.
Arnold sneaks out as he holds on to Helga in one hand and the other being little Phoebe.
When they exit the hospital and free , Helga smiles.
She takes in the air .
Arnold drives Helga and little Phoebe to the beach. The same beach that Arnold and Helga have once build a sand castle together for a competition to be on babe watch.
Arnold helps Helga out his car.
Arnold looks at Helga, who immediately runs to the water.
Arnold takes off his shoes and sweater.
He runs to the water and joins Helga.
They splash water at one another.
Little Phoebe sits on the sand and plays with it.
Helga and Arnold stop splashing each other.
Arnold:
Helga.
Helga:
Yes, Arnold?
Arnold:
I already planned this ahead of time.
I rented us a beach house.
We're going to stay there for some time.
I'm not going back to San Lorenzo any time soon until you get better.
Helga:
There's no getting better, Arnold...
Arnold:
Don't say that.
I'll go out and buy you some more clothes.
Helga:
There's no need for that...
Arnold:
Helga...don't make this difficult for me.
Little Phoebe:
Daddy!
Arnold and Helga turn their attention to little Phoebe , who gotten her entire body dirty from the sand.
Arnold runs to her with Helga slowly walking behind.
Arnold picks up little Phoebe from the sand.
Arnold:
I think it's best for us to come back to the beach another day and just go in the beach house.
You need a bath, little one.
Little Phoebe groans as Arnold carries her by her two little arms to the beach house.
Helga follows them after picking up her and Arnold's clothes.
They enter their beach house.
Arnold takes little Phoebe a bath and then she takes a nap in her room.
Helga had time to look around the beach house , when Arnold took care of little Phoebe.
She looks at herself in the mirror.
She covers her head with a head wrap.
Arnold returns to Helga.
Helga has a good look at Arnold.
He grew taller.
Looks like a cozy psychologist because of his sweater.
Helga:
It's too damn hot for you to be wearing that sweater.
Arnold:
And you're too beautiful to be covering your head.
Helga touches her head wrap.
Helga:
You know why I wear it, Arnoldo.
Arnold closes the door behind him.
Arnold:
Phoebe is fast asleep. She won't be awake until in maybe two hours.
Helga:
Look at you. Already a father.
Arnold:
Yeah.
It's fun being a father.
So, you remember this place?
Helga:
Like it was yesterday, but I didn't have this beach house.
This one seems like it's bigger than the other one I was in.
I remember that bimbo, Summer, tried to play you.
And we beat her in that sand castle competition good!
I remember her face.
That's what she gets.
Arnold:
I remember I didn't want to listen to you about her.
I'm glad I saw Summer's true colors. To this day, I still feel bad for not believing you.
Helga sits on the bed.
Helga:
It's no big deal now. That was years ago.
We forgiven each other since then and we had our chance to be on babe watch!
That was a huge accomplishment that I love rubbing in Olga's face.
Arnold:
I don't like how blind I was in those years in school with you.
Everything you did for me...
Helga:
Yeah, you were pretty blind, hair boy, but that's because I hid my feelings for you well.
I hate how I bullied you.
I couldn't just be upfront with my feelings for you...
Whenever I am like this ...it's hard for me to look at you in the eyes.
I get all shy and feel weak...
Arnold:
Being shy doesn't make you weak, Helga.
I find you very adorable when you're all sweet.
My angel, look at me.
Arnold lifts Helga's face to look at him.
He smiles at her.
Helga looks away blushing.
Helga:
Y-You are sleeping outside, you know.
This room is mine.
Beat it.
Arnold wraps his arms around Helga.
I mean it! You're the buffoon that rented a beach house with only two rooms.
Arnold:
We're married , aren't we?
Helga crosses her arms.
Helga:
More like engaged.
Arnold:
My angel.
Helga:
On the floor. You're sleeping on the floor and I call the bed mine!
Arnold:
We both know you want me to sleep with you.
You don't fool me anymore, AnGeL .
Helga shows a face filled with rage at Arnold, but he sees her blushing through her angry face.
Helga:
If you get on this bed, I will kill you.
Arnold sits next to Helga and kisses her cheek.
Arnold:
That's fine.
Kill me with your kisses.
Arnold stares at Helga.
He awaits her kisses.
Helga pecks a kiss on Arnold's nose.
Helga:
That's all you're getting. You are so annoying!
Helga hits Arnold with a pillow.
Night arrives and Helga and Arnold are sleeping in the same bed, but Helga is way on the edge of the bed to avoid Arnold's touch.
Arnold sleeps with a smile on his face.
Although not close to each other in bed, Arnold and Helga are holding hands.
