Both callie and arizona flew back from each other. stunned and startled. Neither woman knew what to do or say to the tiny tyke Who was staring up at them with a giant smile. both woman's heart were raising. The only person Callie had ever kissed in front of River was Devan. Arizona didn't have kids and didn't want to interfere or say anything to upset and ruin the new thing she had going with calliope.
"Hi miss. robbins what are you doing here?" River asked innocently.
"i, uh, um i" Arizona sturreded till she felt callies hand gently squeeze her own. she sighed in the comfort of the silky hand against her slightly sweaty palm.
deciding she didn't want to lie to her daughter she went with a child friendly version. off the truth. hoping her youthful tyke wouldn't ask too many questions and run off and play. part of her wanting to continue the kiss. but she was doubtful that Arizona would want to.
"well mija was dropping mommy off" callie offered the to tyke.
"Where were you mommy?" River pressed ever so slightly.
"i was out to eat honey" Callie said, holding back as many details as she could without lying.
"Oh ok mommy.'' Callie was relieved she didn't ask any more questions.
"What's going on out here?" Mark asked as he walked to the door. River turned to face him.
"Mommy went on a date with Miss. Robbins and then the kissed!" River exclaimed.
Both girls stood there stunned and in shock as the tiny brunette skipped away towards the t.v. Callie thought her daughter was too smart for her own good. such a wise ol' owl. she would need to have a talk with her tonight when it was bedtime. Mark was just standing there like a giant dope with a giant smile on his face. feeling pleased he was caught red handed.
"Go torres and blondie!" he all but shouted.
"Mark!" both girls hissed.
"What you're both young, you should be getting it. Ill preoccupy squirt so you can.`` Mark said, only half joking and wiggling his eyebrows. He smiled even bigger at the embarrassment both girls were showing.
"Ugh mark thanks but no thanks." Calie sighed.
"How have you been blondie?" Mark asked the frightened blonde.
"Uh good sloan, you?" Arizona really just wanted to high tail it out of there before she said or did the wrong thing and scarred the brunette away for good.
"Good" mark was to bust still chickling to really talk.
"Ah callie i'm gonna head home, you on monday?" Arizona turned to Callie and gave a hopeful smile.
"of course.'' Callie squeezed the blonde's hand one last time, realizing she hasn't let go yet. Callie was nervous that the blonde would run. Callie knew the blonde worked with the kids but she didn't seem to have much interaction in her personal life. Arizoan turned and walked as calmly as she could down the drive to her car. But inside of her she wanted to run.
….
Callie had waited till she was tucking in River to talk to her about what she had seen. Yes the girl had made comments about her dating again. And even dating arizona. But this was different. This was real life now. She needs to broach the subject gently, with caution for the young tyke.
"Can mommy talk to you about something sweetie?" Callie asked.
" sure mom." River snuggled into her mom as they laid in bed.
"I want to talk to you about what you saw today on the porch," Callie pressed on.
"Oh when you were kissing miss. Robbins?" the little girl giggled.
"Yes, do you have any questions about what you saw?" Callie asked softly, also trying not to giggle at her daughter's antics.
"Are you guys girlfriends now?" River looked up at her mom with inquisitive eyes.
"No mija we're just friends." Callie explained.
"do you want to be girlfriends?" River questioned.
"some day. Is that ok with you?" Callie was scared of the answer.
"Would she have to stop being my teacher?" River reallys liked having her as her teacher. She was fun and made school great. Because River really missed her mom when she was at school.
"No sweety we would wait till you finished school, but you can not tell your classmates that you saw mommy kissing her ok?" Callie gently warned her, not wanting to cause any trouble for either her daughter or the teacher.
"Why mommy?" River was confused.
"Well teachers and mommies are not really supposed to kiss, and sometimes people really don't like when two girls kiss." Callie didn't know how much to tell River without confusing her little self.
"I don't understand mommy, what's wrong with that? It's just like anyone else. i say you kiss her if that makes you happy mommy." With that she closed her eyes and went to bed.
…..
Callie laid in bed that day thinking about the day's transpires. She was amazed at how grown and caring her little girl is growing up to be. But she was sad her parents didn't have the same love she did. Callie wanted her to have a relationship with them. They just couldn't get over themselves. Maybe it was time to reach out again, but with the way things were headed with Arizona would they accept that?
Callie heard her phone chime with a new text message. She rolled over the big bed with the blue sheets and blue comforter and grabbed her phone.
Unknown number
That was some kiss.
Callie
It was!
Callie smiled to herself, glad Arizona hadn't been spooked off. She waited for a few minutes for another text but when none came she placed her phone back down and rolled over. This was gonna be one of those epic love stories you read about. She could feel it in her bones. They were going places. she just needed to hang on for a few more months and then it would be Their time.
…..
Arizoan was in her classroom already for her students, she was pleasantly surprised to see her two favorite latians walk in before anyone one else. Usually they were one of the last few to come in. Was this good or bad the blonde thought to herself.
"hi! " The smaller tan girl said as she ran to her desk.
"No running Miss. Torres." Arizona said softly.
"Sorry." River was happy this morning. Her mom was extra happy and she could feel her mom's energy.
"I'll see you later?" Callie asked nervously.
"Wait." Arizona spoke softly.
"yah?" Callie asked nervously.
"i, i was wondering if you and River wanted to go to the park after school? i figured she's already seen us kiss so there's no point hididng. that is if you're ok with it anyway. I thought it could be something simple we could do together. that way you didn't need a babysitter. That is if you're free?" Arizona rambled on.
"Yah I'd love that and I think river would too!" Callie's smile grew ten times.
"Ok how about if you pick her up a little late and we can go to a park across town?" Arizona offered her smile growing just as wide just to add dimples.
"Sounds good sweets." Callie smiled and turned and walked out the class, choosing to ignore the little pet name. Arizona couldn't let it go though she was smiling ear to ear. This was gonna be a good day for her. Both girls were looking forward to their little after school adventure.
….
Lexie was a ball of nerves. she had a plan on how she was gonna tell Mark about the baby. She was nervous to be a mom. She was still young. But the time came and she was ready. She had to be. The baby was already growing inside of her. So she found a cute little onesie and she put it in a gift back. She made his favorite meatloaf and mashed potatoes and gravy dinner, not that she was a great cool but she did ok. She also boxed up the test and was gonna give it to him.
"Ready for lunch babe?" Lexie nervously asked mark.
"I'm always ready for you." Mark grabbed her hand and they went to the picnic table outside. Lexie laid out the tupperware and forks. Mark was suspicious.
"What's all this little grey?" Mark called her little because her older sister Meredith, also worked with him as another dental hygienist. It's how they met. his best friend Derek warned him to stay away. But his heart fell for the doe eyed brunette when she would stop by. later coming to work with him.
"Just a little treat for you, I also have some news." Lexie was trying to be confident.
"And the gift bag? It's not my birthday grey, you know that you have a photogenic memory, or is it slipping in your old age?" Mark lightly teased the younger girl. He took a seat across from her and took a big bite, Half excited at what this all could be about and half nervous it was something serious.
"Just open it and find out" Lexie lightly shoved the bag at him.
Mark pulled out the tissue paper first and then a small green onesie with a little yellow chick that said
'CHICKS DIG ME JUST LIKE DADDY'
Mark looked up at Lexie with huge eyes, unbeknownst to the girl, full of hope. Mark wanted a family of his own for as long as he could remember. Lexie smiled and held out the box with the test in it. Mark ripped open the box and yelled. He got up from his seat and ran around the table immediately engulfing the girl in a hug from behind. tears streaming down both their faces. These ofcourse were very happy tears.
"We have an ultrasound in two weeks. We won't know the gender for a few months. you sure your excited Lexie asked" Mark spun her around and pulled her upto a proper hug and whispered in her ear.
"I've never been happier. I Love you and I love this baby and thats all i have ever wanted. a family, you are my family."
