Kawauso rushed through the front door of the house first, beaming with pride. His twin was finally being let out of hospital. And with his mother's help he'd made a cake. Both Ren and Sarada had returned messages assuring their father of their safety, so he was no longer brooding so much, though he was still brooding, his sunshine was still in hospital. Kawauso wanted to invite all their friends from the academy to celebrate but Nikko shied away from the idea, so it was dropped. It seemed, though she was their sunshine, she had the same introverted nature as her father, where as Kawauso was more like their mother, in that he liked to be around people and make friends. "Alright you two, into the dining room so I can bring out the cake." Sakura cooed just as the doorbell rang.
"I got it!" Kawauso cried rushing to the door.
Sasuke settled at the table, sipping a drink, as he waited to be told who had decided to come visit. Would he prefer not to have the cake? Yes, but his son had made it. It would help boost Kawauso's confidence to eat it. And it would also show Nikko that he was glad she was home, she was just like her mother at her age, in that she loved the cuddly affection. Nikko had gone to the bathroom, probably to check her hair or something, Sasuke wasn't sure what she was doing. But he did hear a flush sound so he figured the usual business. "Did you have to keep her another two days?" Sasuke asked his wife. Both of the twins had always been popular with Sakura's staff, something Nikko didn't really like, but Kawasou loved. "She'd almost had all your nurses wanting to adopt her and take her home."
Sakura giggled a little as she gathered up the plates. "I needed to be sure her eyes were okay, besides, she's always been able to win anyone over with a smile." She replied with a smile in her own voice. Sasuke smirked into his drink as he took another sip. That was true. She'd won him over. When she was born, he'd been won over, but that smile had sealed the deal.
He remembered that first smile. He saw it! He'd come into the nursery to get her up from her nap and found her awake just, happily babbling to herself, then she spotted him and broke out into a grin. It felt like a knife to the heart, and he tried hard not to cry. When he'd told Sakura she'd announced that he'd seen her first smile.
The sound of plates touching the table broke him out of his memory and he turned to Sakura, putting his cup down and took her hand. He smiled up at her for a long moment. They shared that look, their fingers tangled together in the hold.
"Aunt Ino! Uncle Sai!" Kawauso's voice called. Sasuke and Sakura let go, ready to receive their guests.
"Hello there Kawauso!" Ino cooed. "We thought we'd come over to see how Nikko was doing, your mother had to cancel our lunch yesterday to look after her, so we were quite worried."
Sasuke glared at Sai. The male always insulted his wife. Inside joke or not, he hated it. And he was sure his twins had never been exposed to it since they seemed to enjoy spending time with Sai and Ino. . . Well except Nikko, he was sure she'd enjoyed it at some point. Perhaps she had heard it, or just picked up on his own aggressive mood.
"Hey ugly." Sai greeted Sakura. "How is- ugh!"
Nikko had used all her strength, using her abilities that her mother and Sarada had been teaching her, and launched Sai, with one punch, outside through the glass doors. Sasuke didn't see where he'd landed, but he'd heard the very loud crack that Nikko's punch to his lower back, and the landing on the ground, had given out. Slowly, Nikko looked up from the spot on the ground. Her eyes showing the Sharingan, one tomoe in each eye. "No one, speaks to Mama like that. No one." She said still in her stance. Ino recovered first. "Nikko! It is a joke!" She cried, running out the now broken door and down to the ground floor to her husband shrieking his name. Sakura, went from shocked that her daughter could move so fast, to shocked that her sharingan had awakened. Well, that explained the itchy eyes.
Sasuke, however, was full of pride for his daughters actions and gave her a pat on her head. "That's my girl." He praised watching as she stood properly and beamed at her father.
"Nikko!" Sakura cried. "No wonder your eyes have been itchy!"
Sasuke nodded. "She was close to awakening her Sharingan."
Kawauso was in awe of his sister, he'd not awakened his yet.
Ino had rushed down to grab her husband, doing her best to just heal him enough to get him back to Sakura's place to say goodbye so she could finish healing him at home. Even she hadn't been expecting such a reaction from either of the twins. Ino thought everyone had becoem used to the nickname. "You know darling, you have to learn the twins are more sensitive than Sakura is to that nickname," She said to him, her eyes soft.
"I know," Sai coughed out. "I just wasn't expecting. . ." He frowned. "I wasn't expecting Nikko to be like that. She seemed to be the weakest of the four of them."
"Well, now you know better." Ino replied shaking her head. She had spoken to Sai on numerous occasions not to call Nikko that, but somehow, he never seemed to get the message. She just hoped that no one in the Uchiha family heard that remark, or things were likely to get ugly. "You really should apologise to Nikko."
"Shouldn't she apologise to me?" Sai asked.
"You insulted her mother to her face." Ino teased. "Maybe if you apologise first she will too. Especially because she's a lot more sensitive than the other three about her mother, you know the kind of fights they get into with the other kids their age. . ." Ino gave a sigh. "She's just like Sakura, back when she was self conscious about her forehead." She chuckled softly and shook her head.
Sai nodded. "I see your point." He mumbled allowing his wife to assist him to stand. "Does this mean we can't stay for dinner?" He added with a frown.
Ino, had returned, with Sai leaning heavily on her, whispering something that Nikko couldn't hear. She hoped he was telling his wife he was sorry, but she couldn't tell from where she was. Ino had nodded and tried to smile for him. She looked rather upset. "Nikko!" She called, her voice tinged with pride. "How did you manage to do that?" She had never expected the twins to be hostile, it had taken her by surprise. But the longer she stood there with Sai, the less she'd been able to hold onto her anger. "I mean, neither of you have been able to master Sakura's technique like Sarada so it's really a shock." She giggled. "And honestly, you were asking for it darling, you know how Sasuke wants you to find a different greeting for his wife."
"Ugh~" Sai groaned still in pain. Like hell he was going to apologise for something like this. How had such a tiny girl been able to get passed his defenses and take him out like that?
No one had ever expected the twins to be as great as Sarada, or Ren for that matter.
Nikko turned, her Sharingan still active. "No one talks to Mama like he did." She said to Ino. "I don't like you because you let him!"
Sai stared in shock. So, he thought, not as weak as he had thought.
"Hey, Nikko!" Sakura stammered, embarrassed. "He's called me that for a very long time, it's okay-"
"No it's not!" Nikko cried back. "Kids at school call you that! No one is allowed, not even them! I'll start punching now! Shannaro!" She yelled feeling her chakra mold easier.
Sasuke paled. Anger. She loved her mother so much that she was in a rage. . . Out of the four of them, he was more worried about Ren and Kawauso following the path he took as a child and teenager. Never had he thought his daughter's, his Nikko, would want that path!
Sakura could sense it too, for she had rushed to Nikko and held her tight. "Ssh." She whispered. "Ssh, Nikko it's okay, Uncle Sai just won't call me that anymore." She said trying to soothe her child from her rage. Kawauso shook himself out of his shock too and added himself to the hug and urged his father to join it too, until Nikko's rage calmed.
Sakura looked up from the hug. "Ino, I appreciate your concern for Nikko but I think you guys should head for the hospital. Get treatment for Sai."
"See you later Aunt Ino." Kawauso said watching as the highly impressed Ino dragged her husband out of the house as Naruto appeared at the door, his face full of confusion, but it softened when he saw the cuddle pile. "Aww! Hugs!"
"No." Sasuke said.
"No?" Naruto replied sounding sad.
"No." Replied Sakura. "Nikko needs to calm down."
"Why-? Oh." Naruto said staring at the broken glass of the back door. "Did. . .Did she throw Sai out that door?" He asked making a face. "Dang what did he say to make her mad? Do I even want to know?"
"No." Sakura, Sasuke and Kawauso said at the same time.
"Yes." Nikko said, pushing her way out of the cuddle pile and rushed to her uncle and Hokage, her arms open for a hug.
Naruto smiled softly and enveloped Nikko into a hug. After some moments, Naruto pulled away and cupped her cheek. "Are you okay Nikko?" He asked. "You had so many people worried." He dug into his robes and pulled out some get well soon cards and gave them to her.
Nikko blushed and took the cards, smiling brightly as she held them against her chest. "I feel a lot better, because of mama." She gushed. "I want to be like her when I grow up."
Naruto gave a chuckle. "Well then you have to work really hard, because your mama is a hero."
Nikko gasped a little. "More than papa?" She asked. "And you?"
Without missing a beat, Naruto gave a grin. "Yup. You have so many friends." He replied and gave her a pat on the head. "Can I talk to Mama and Papa?" He asked her eventually. "I have to tell them something, you know?"
Nikko's eyes widened and she nodded. "Kawauso and I can go play." She suggested, smiling up at him before turning and grabbing her brother to pull them away, so their parents could talk freely with the Nanadaime.
Naruto waited until he was sure the twins couldn't hear him before he spoke. "I've had the incident investigated." He said, looking stern. "One of the kidnappers appeared to be from a village that refuses to join our shinobi union." He explained. He sighed. "Sakura could I have a drink?" He asked.
"Oh!" Sakura gasped. "How rude of me. Sure," She made her way to the kitchen.
"I got it." Naruto said to her grabbing a beer from the fridge and sat at the dining table. Sakura and Sasuke followed him. There were times Sasuke found it annoying how comfortable Naruto would make himself in Sasuke's house, but today was not that day. He seemed like he was about to lay down a painful explanation. "The Leader's wife wants Nikko."
Sakura gasped. "What?! Why?!" She cried standing up. "She can't have our baby! None of our babies can be had by her!"
Sasuke put a hand on Sakura's shoulder, pushing her back into her seat. "Why does she want Nikko?" He asked.
Naruto took a long draw from the bottle of beer he had. "Apparently, you did something in our youth that has caused her to want Nikko as recompense." He shook his head. "We haven't gotten to the details." He added. "Just that you did something and she wants Nikko as payment. I've explained what you did for us all in the last war. She wouldn't listen. But she wouldn't tell us what you did. So we don't know why she wants Nikko."
Sakura felt her own rage bubble. Sasuke was eerily silent. "Too bad! Nikko is our baby! That woman can't have her!" Sakura snapped. "I don't care if it starts a war or something, Nikko is our daughter. No matter what it's not right to trade our child for peace."
"Ah! I know." Naruto replied smiling. "I said something similar." He smirked. "Don't worry, she won't be used as a bargaining chip for peace."
Sasuke nodded. Unlike Sakura, he kept his rage in his body, off his face. Nikko needed to think the situation was calm. "We will step up her training." He said eventually. "Just in case."
"It will be easier since she has activated her Sharingan." Sakura replied offhandedly.
"Wait, what?" Naruto asked. "She did?! When?!"
"Today." Sakura replied smiling softly, unlike Sasuke who was as close to beaming on the outside as he could be.
"She launched Sai out the backdoor." Sasuke added, his voice dripping with pride. "She didn't like the nickname he gave my wife."
Naruto smirked softly. "Just like her mother, ya know." He teased. "I've also managed to shield them from the worst of the adults talking." He continued. "But I don't know how much longer I can stop the talk."
