NOTE TO: Roban05: Now, now, you know all will be right-eventually! Gotta make them work for it!
TRIVIA: This is totally unintentional, but I thought of this about a week after writing this. Yannick was in something where he got shot and had to wear a sling. What was it? (maybe there's more than one. I've only seen one. Hopefully you know it!)
?-?
"Now." Jack said as Kevin approached the car, frowning when he saw who was in the drivers seat. Jack sat up straight and smiled through the open window. "Hello, Kevin."
"What are you doing here?" He asked, taken totally off-guard.
"Where's my fiancé?" He countered.
"If you think I'm telling you, you're dreaming." He quickly replied, regrouping.
"It's only a matter of time before we find her." Jack assuredly said, defying his internal worry that she would never be found alive. The wailing of sirens in the near distance giving a bit more confidence.
He shook his head and evilly smiled. "Nope, you won't." He said, then quickly took out a gun from his back pocket, shooting the car a few times as he quickly backed up, making his getaway. Bobby and Jack ducked behind the doors, the shots hitting the metal doorframe and closed back windows. After one whizzed by Jack's head, two in the front door and one in the back windows, there was one more shot, then silence.
Afraid to look, Jack slowly picked up his head to look out the window. He saw Kevin sprawled on the ground, his gun a few inches away from him. He looked around and saw a young police officer a few yards away, still standing behind his vehicle's door, in shooting position. They must have driven up, the officer shooting Kevin dead on the first try.
Seeing the scene, Jack let out a sigh as he tried to move his left arm to open the car door. Wincing from the searing pain in his arm, he put his right hand on his left shoulder. Feeling something wet, he let go and looked.
"Jack, you're bleeding!" Bobby exclaimed, seeing his right hand soaked in blood.
He inspected his shoulder. "I think that first bullet grazed my arm. No big deal."
"No big deal?!" His friend exclaimed as he quickly got out of his side of the car to run to the driver's side, opening the door and helping Jack out of the car. "Call an ambulance!" He exclaimed to the officers, the shooter still in the same position.
"I'm fine!" Jack exclaimed, wriggling out of Bobby's crutch of a hold.
"No, you're not. It's a good thing the hospital's just down the road."
"Hospital? No way! We have to find Sue!"
"Only if you promise to be at least inspected by a paramedic!"
He sighed, knowing his friend wasn't going to back down. Bobby satisfactorily nodded, then went over to the officers. Jack walked over to the young shooter, just now coming out of his frozen stance. "First time?"
"Huh?" The officer asked, surprised by the voice.
"First time shooting someone?" He repeated.
"Oh, uh, yeah." He quietly replied.
Jack nodded. "Thank you. If it weren't for you, I think I'd have a more serious injury than this." He said, pointing to his bleeding shoulder. The young man nodded. "I just wish he could've told us where Sue is before he died."
The two men grew silent for a few moments. "Will it ever go away?" The young officer quietly asked.
He sighed. "It does get better, but I don't think you can ever forget your first. I've found it comforting to remember that it was justified; I was saving a life, multiple lives by killing another."
The officer nodded, then sank down back into his patrol car, unseeingly staring out of the window. By this time, an ambulance arrived and Bobby was whisking his friend away to have a little visit with the paramedic.
"You know, you're lucky. The bullet only grazed your arm. You'll have an indent and scar, but no permanent damage. Lots of bleeding, though. Try not to use your arm for a few days."
"Believe me, I can't if I wanted to. It hurts too much." Jack replied, watching the paramedic wipe the area, wincing in pain from the antiseptic.
"It will feel better later. Don't do any excursion, either." He warned.
"I need to find my fiancé." He determinedly replied.
The paramedic looked at Bobby. "Hey, it was hard enough for me to get him over here!" He exclaimed.
He sighed as he stuck a large bandage on his shoulder. "Alright. But no funny business."
"Thank you." Jack replied when the paramedic finished, slipping a sling over his shoulder and sliding the bad arm in. He popped up, already thinking on how to find Sue. "He walked here, so it can't be too far. He came out of those woods there, so let's start there." He said, pointing to where Kevin emerged not a half hour earlier.
Bobby nodded. "I've already told the officers to canvass the area. They'll let us know if they found anything."
"Good." He replied, walking across the street and into the woods.
Bobby chuckled and shook his head at his friend's determination, then jogged up to catch up to him.
?-?
Sue unseeingly looked around. She tried to feel what was going on, to sense it. Nothing was coming. Maybe Kevin was gone? Maybe her senses were off. She didn't know what was or wasn't. Then she felt something. Movement, footsteps. Scared that it was Kevin, she sat there, afraid to breathe, praying whatever it is would go away. About a minute later, it did. She took a deep breath. "Thank you God." She then prayed Jack would find her soon. Little did she know how close he really was.
