During the Battle of Trost, Dogsbreath and Clueless watched as Ragnar was beginning to plug up the hole the two of them had made.
"They're trying to plug up the hole with that boulder?" Clueless stared. "That's insane. They're gambling everything; for all they know, if Ragnar gets eaten, then their best hope will be gone for good."
"This has Hiccup written all over it; it's the best of a bad decision," said Dogsbreath. "Besides, his death would be bad for us too. If he goes down, are stepping with my Titan."
"What if he doesn't? We risked a lot to make that hole; should we really let him plug it?"
"Yeah, we should. Five years we searched for a lead like this, now we finally found it."
"Dogsbreath? Clueless?" said a voice behind them. "Sorry, but what we are you talking about?" The two of them tensed up as standing right behind them was Speedfist. "You're going to step in with your Titan? And Clueless, you said that you made that hole? What is this?"
Dogsbreath and Clueless just stood there stunned had been so focused on Ragnar they hadn't looked around to make sure no one could hear them.
"Ah, Speedfist," said Dogsbreath. "Everything you just heard was… a joke."
"Have you guys lost it," said Speedfist. "This isn't like you. Focus on the mission; look, there are more Titans coming. Let's go!"
He then immediately took off, but he didn't buy Dogsbreath excuse in the slightest. There were many clues that supported his statement.
'Humans can turn into Titans; I know that for a fact because Ragnar did it,' he said. 'Hiccup said the Colossal Titans appeared out of nowhere, and it attacked Trost and then vanished. The best explanation is that it's someone like Ragnar; the same goes for the Armoured Titan, and if they are human, then maybe they're hiding among us.'
He had just landed on the roof looking for someone in order to report this, but then Dogsbreath came straight at him with swords drawn. He then quickly slammed into him and pinned him against the roof.
"Dogsbreath!" Speedfist yelled as he tried to free himself. "What are you doing? Please no, save the joke."
"Wish I could Speedfist; the problem is you're too damn sharp to let that fool you," he said.
"Somebody help!" Speedfist yelled.
Dogsbreath quickly covered his mouth, and then suddenly landing in front of him was Eir.
Speedfist managed to free his mouth Dogsbreath's hand and looked at her. "Eir, you've got to help me!"
"What's going on here?" Eir asked.
"Dogsbreath is acting crazy! Get him off me!"
"He heard me and Clueless talking; if we let him live, he will expose us," said Dogsbreath.
Eir just stared at them, horrified. "You shitheads! What the hell?"
Speedfist then realised that Eir was in on it with Dogsbreath and Clueless.
They suddenly heard the ground shaking indicated the Titan was closing in.
"A Titan, it's coming this way!" Clueless yelled as a 12 meter was headed towards them.
"Eir, take off Speedfist's ODM gear!" Dogsbreath ordered.
Everyone just stared at him, stunned because that would leave Speedfist helpless to the Titan.
"Do it now!"
"Wait, why should I have to do it?" Eir asked.
"Back in there, you risk your life to save Tuffnut, I saw you," said Dogsbreath. "Why did you put yourself in danger over him? Seems to me you're becoming sympathetic towards the enemy. You want to convince me that I'm wrong, now is the time to do it. Think of your father; he's waiting for you to come home. If you or him at any different to the filth inside these Walls, then prove it here and now!"
"Hey, it's almost on top of us!" Clueless yelled.
"Eir!" Dogsbreath yelled.
Eir then bent down and reluctantly removed Speedfist's ODM gear.
"What are you doing?" Speedfist screamed. "Eir, I thought we were comrades! Please, I don't want to die here! Don't kill me!"
"You did well, Eir," said Dogsbrearth as she removed the ODM gear. "This is what makes us Warriors."
Speedfist then realised what the conversation was about earlier. Eir had asked Dogsbreath if they should move out, but he said they had to wait until they gathered up. He had assumed that Dogsbreath had been referencing to the other cadets but had been talking about the Titans.
'I see; they waited because they wanted the Titans to win,' he said.
Eir then tossed his ODM gear through a window, and then the three of them took off.
"Just wait!" Speedfist yelled, looking at them with tears in his eyes. "Why do this? Why are you in such a hurry to kill me? I don't get it! How come? Why are you even willing to talk to me? Why?"
Once the three of them were at a safe distance, they looked back and saw the Titan had now grabbed Speedfist. They then watched as the Titan devoured him, and Eir looked away.
"Hey, why… why is Speedfist being devoured?" said Dogsbreath.
It was a few minutes before daybreak, and Dogsbreath and Clueless were drinking a hot cup of coffee with their war chief. The two of them were still very much concerned about Eir.
"Like I said, I'm sure that Eir is doing fine," she said. "She's certainly not getting tortured. Calm down and consider how unlikely that sounds. If they so much as scratch her, she will turn into a monster that can take on an army all by itself. Don't forget this is Eir we're talking about here. I bet she's hiding somewhere, practising her kicks and whatnot. She's fine."
The two of them weren't exactly is confident; Hiccup had already mentioned that they had captured her. Of course, I could have been a ruse, just a lower Clueless guard down, but he wasn't a terribly good lie.
"Still, there's no doubt that her identity was revealed," said Dogsbreath.
"Eir's smart, but…" said Clueless.
Their war chief sighed. "It doesn't sound like you're fully committed. What the hell is your problem? I thought that all three of us came to an agreement. Did I go through all that trouble for nothing? We can find again if you want to, but that said, the next time that you lose to me, I will make you give up your Armoured Titan to another Warrior."
"What? No, I'll do as you tell me to," said Dogsbreath quickly.
"Then pour yourselves together; we have one objective," said the war chief. "Recover the coordinates, do that, and we can bring discursive history to an end. It's gone on too long; we can be the ones to end this, so let's do it."
"Understood, sir," said Clueless. "Until this is done, I will keep Eir out of my head. This is a living hell, but we should put anyone else through it. You're right; this needs to end."
"It settled then," said Dogsbreath.
"War Chief Zara," said a voice.
They immediately rushed towards the edge of the Wall and saw the Cart Titan looking up at them.
"I believe that horses are approaching; they are at the foot of the mountain," it said.
With that, they decided to take one last cup of coffee.
"My brave Warriors, with this final battle, we will finish our mission once and for all," said Zara.
They then drank the coffee, but Zara drank a little too fast and ended up burning her tongue.
"Hot!" she cursed.
They then all got their positions; Dogsbreath kicked the part and cups over the edge of the Wall and began strapping his ODM gear.
"Ready?" he asked.
"Yeah," Clueless nodded.
"Clueless, I've told you this plenty of times, but you and I will be in separate positions," said Dogsbreath as they ran across the Wall. "So try and think on your own for once, all right."
"Uh, right."
"You don't always have to wait for my signal."
"Yeah, I know that."
"You're supposed to have the most powerful ability out of all of us, but you never use it unless you're told. Honestly, I never saw you as reliable."
"I know that too."
"Not until today," he said, and Clueless stared at him. "We're going to finish this here, yeah? That's right, and there's nothing they can do to stop us."
Dogsbreath smiled back at him, and they started as they reached the gate. "Hold onto that attitude until you're back with your beloved."
"Huh? I-I don't know what you're talking about," Clueless stuttered.
"Eir's pretty cold, but save from a dungeon, she might see you with new eyes. Hell, if you play your cards right, she might mistake you for a knight."
Clueless was completely embarrassed.
"Oh, and as for Christa, we're going to save her no matter what. That's the promise we made to Ymir," said Dogsbreath tapping his chest, indicating there was something inside his chest pocket.
"Yeah, we'll find a way," Clueless agreed.
The two of them then turned their backs on one another, prepare to go in opposite directions.
"And see ya, don't let me down," he said, tapping him on the shoulder.
"I've got your back," said Clueless doing the same thing.
The two of them then began the long walk and would lead them into battle with the former friend and comrades.
Back in the present, Clueless was hiding in a barrel waiting for Dogsbreath's signal, but so far, it has been relatively quiet.
'It's been a while since I heard Dogsbreath transform,' said Clueless. 'But he still hasn't signalled. Why? Did something go wrong out there?'
The Armoured Titan was sitting on its knees, and Dogsbreath's actual body was sticking out of the nape, smouldering.
The Scouts cheered as it looked as if they were successful in bringing down the Armoured Titan.
"We did it!"
"We blew that bastard's head off!"
"The Armoured Titan just bit the dust!"
"We pulled it off," said Snotlout stunned. "You were a serious pain in the ass for us. Serves you right, you scum bag."
The twins just sat there in shock with tears in their eyes.
"What the hell are you crying for?" said Snotlout grabbing the hem of their cloaks. "Stop! Get up! We still have work to do! Don't cry for him; he would have done the same thing to us!"
Ragnar just stared.
"This isn't over," said Valka. "We'll hit him with another volley just to be sure!"
Astrid looked at Fishlegs. "You okay?"
"I guess so; it's not like we can negotiate," said Fishlegs.
"He's not wrong," said Hiccup folding his arms. "Their side has the knowledge; they make us look just as ignorant as we are weak. We don't have the ability to capture someone who can turn into a Titan on a whim. Which means there's nothing we can do."
Astrid then noticed that the Armoured Titan's mouth began to move, and then he roared loudly with an earsplitting scream. Apparently, he had used all the strength he had left as the Armoured Titan collapsed to the ground.
The scream was heard by those beyond the Walls.
Stoick stared. 'Was that?'
A split second later, the Cart Titan ran over to the Beast Titan and carrying on its back was none other than Clueless.
"That's the signal; it's time," said Clueless.
The Beast Titan then grabbed the barrel he was hiding in and rose to his full height. It then tossed the barrel with all its strength so high in fact that it went over the Wall.
"Use your Thunder Spears," said Valka, unaware of what was going on. "If we want him dead, we have to destroy his whole body."
Hiccup was more concerned with the roar they just heard. 'That stream just now. Was it for Clueless?'
He then looked up and saw the barrel flying above them, and he realised what was going on.
"Mum, wait!" said Hiccup. "We need to fall back for now!"
"Why?" Valka asked.
Hiccup then pointed to the sky. "You see that barrel? I'm sure that Clueless is inside. If he transforms, we're done for."
'Come on, Dogsbreath, hang in there!' said Clueless. 'I'm coming!'
Stoick could only watch as the was nothing he could do. "They got us."
"Shit!" said Valka. "Everyone away from the Armoured Titan! The Colossal Titan is falling towards us right now!"
The Scouts immediately began to scramble, putting as much distance as they could from Dogsbreath. However, Hiccup knew no matter how quickly the movie would be able to get out of the blast radius in time.
'No! Even at this distance, we'll all be caught in the blast!' he said.
Clueless could see the ground from the holes in the barrel.
'Ground is pretty close, it's now, or never; I'll blow the whole place to help,' he said and was just about to bite into his hand when he saw Dogsbreath.
And so transforming, he got out of the barrel. "Dogsbreath!"
He then swung down towards Dogsbreath and could see the extent of the damage the Scouts had done.
"Are you?" he said as he bent down and feared the worst. "No way." Then realised if Dogsbreath was dead, the Titan would have disintegrated by now; he then placed a hand over his chest and could feel a faint heartbeat. "What the? He's still alive; you must have transferred his consciousness throughout an entire nervous system. We talked about it, but only as a last resort. To think that they would actually need to. It's hard to believe that the cornet you like this. Dammit!"
He knew he transformed now Dogsbreath to be caught in the blast, but at the same time, he knew that the Scouts would make a move against the two of them, killing them both.
"Dogsbreath, I need you to do something for me," he said. "You're going to have to move just a little bit, and if you can't, then I'm sorry. Prepare for the worst. I'm ending this war."
The Scout had now fallen back to a safe distance, but Clueless hasn't transformed.
"Here we go," said Valka. "Our mission is primary objective just fell straight into our laps. You could call this a stroke of luck."
"Hey, look!" Mason yelled. "Someone is coming our way! It's Clueless!"
Sure enough, heading towards them was Clueless.
"The plan is as follows," said Valka. "Hiccup, you take command of Eret Squad, protect Ragnar! Everyone else should come with me! We've got two targets two eliminate!"
"Right!" said the Scouts.
Fishlegs then raised his voice. "Hang on!"
"What? Why?" Valka asked, looking at him.
"This could be our only chance we have to negotiate," said Fishlegs looking at Hiccup.
Hiccup nodded and began making his way towards Clueless.
"Stop, Clueless!" Hiccup yelled. "Just wait a minute!"
The two of them soon stopped at the old church and looked at one another.
'What are you trying to achieve?' said Ragnar, concerned that this was a bad idea.
"We don't have to fight!" Hiccup yelled. "Let's talk this over!"
"If I agree to talk with you all been willing to lay down and die?" Clueless yelled back, much to Hiccup's shock. "We only want to simple things Ragnar Keatson and the death of everyone in the Walls! That's the harsh truth of our situation, understand? All your fate have been decided!"
"And who is it but decided that?"
"I did," said Clueless quietly.
"What was that?"
"It was me, Hiccup!" Clueless yelled. "I decided that your lives should end here and now!"
"That's a real shame, Clueless. You see, I was hoping I could finally stop hearing Eir's scream! There's only one person who can save her from the savages of the Military Police! And that you! If you don't, she'll be fed to the pigs!"
"Fine by me!" said Clueless as he took off, and Astrid took off at the same time. "Let them feed Eir to the pigs! If they actually have her, that is!"
He then landed on the church, and Hiccup did the same thing.
"I guess it was too much to hope that you would fall for that trick a second time," Hiccup sighed as he drew his sword.
"So you don't have her."
"Oh, we do. It's just that we aren't able to question. She hardened her entire body in crystal."
"I see, so she had no other choice," said Clueless. "I will admit, though, the first time you try that trick was a clever move, but I'm no longer the timid fool you once knew."
Ragnar had a bad feeling about this.
"I don't like it either, Rag," said Heather, who was standing on his shoulder. "But your chances of beating him a damn slim. This is in your fight yet."
'Hiccup, you need to get out of there,' said Ragnar.
"I know what this is," said Clueless. "You're just buying time, aren't you? Half your comrades have surrounded me, and while I'm distracted, the rest will go on to finish killing Dogsbreath. This plan has you written all over it."
"If you knew that much, then why are you talking to me in the first place?" Hiccup asked.
"Because I needed to know if when I faced all of you this time, I'd start crying and begging to put me out of my misery again. But…" He then raised his sword. "…it seems like I'm fine now. You'll always be my dear comrades right up until I killed you."
"But why?" Hiccup asked. "Do you actually believe we're the spawn of the devil?"
"No, none of you did anything wrong. I know that you aren't devils; even so, you cannot be permitted to live. That is just how it is."
Astrid then appeared out of nowhere directly behind him and raised her blade, prepared to slice his head off. However, Clueless sensed this and quickly spun around, blocking her attack with his own blade. Astrid and skidded her blade across his and, while his guard was down, swung her left blade slicing off his ear.
Clueless quickly spun and kicked her so hard that she slid down the roof.
"Astrid!" Hiccup yelled, charging at Clueless.
Clueless quickly blocked his swing, and Astrid then spun her detached blade directly at him. However, he was able to bounce it black with his other blade, and Astrid used the jets in her ODM gear to gain extra speed. Clueless quickly disengaged with Hiccup just in time to avoid Astrid blade, and realising he couldn't beat them both, he retreated.
"Don't do it," said Astrid stopping Hiccup from chasing him down. "We can't chase him; there's no telling when he chooses to transform. If we don't keep our distance, we'll just get caught in the explosion."
"I don't think Clueless intends to do that just yet," said Hiccup. "He must have seen how badly wounded Dogsbreath is. Transforming now would probably kill him. Our best bet is probably to take Dogsbreath hostage and fight Clueless without blades."
"That makes sense, but from the look of him, he seemed like he had a plan," Astrid frowned as she rubbed the arm Clueless kicked. "Not only that, he seemed more determined than before. Almost like an entirely different person."
"Yeah, I saw it too," Hiccup agreed.
Some of the Scouts were making their way towards Dogsbreath, hoping to finish him off before he fully recovered.
"Hurry! The Armoured Titan is weak; we just have to finish him!"
However, they discovered that Dogsbreath had rolled onto his back when they arrived, completely covering his nape.
"His nape is on the ground now!"
"What are we supposed to do?"
Valka and her squad were chasing Clueless down, hoping to take him out before he transformed.
'This sure is a peculiar feeling,' said Clueless as he flew across the air. 'I'm not scared at all for once, and I see everything clearly. I know that no matter what happens, I can accept how this ends. Yeah, no one is in the wrong here. There was nothing to be done.'
He then fired his anchors at two buildings and used them like a slingshot in order to saw up above the buildings.
'We had no choice in all this because this world is just that cruel,' said Dogsbreath as he looked down to the ground.
"He's going up!" Valka yelled. "Don't tell me!"
"But if he transforms, he'll kill Dogsbreath too!" said Mason.
"We need to get out of here!" Valka panicked.
It was too late; Clueless was already beginning to transform.
"Valka, look out!" Mason yelled.
Hiccup and Astrid were making their way back to the others when they saw the explosion, and they both knew that Valka and her squad were at the epicentre. The explosion was so powerful that it sent a massive shock wave across the entire city, demolishing the tiles on the roofs of the buildings as well as a good number of buildings in the epicentre.
Hiccup and Astrid were able to dive into a street and hit behind a house while Fishlegs and the others hung on to Ragnar, who took the full brunt of the explosion. Valka's squad wasn't as lucky as they were immediately disintegrated in the explosion.
Dogsbreath, who shielded his nape by laying down on his back, remained completely unscathed and concentrated on healing.
Stoick observed the entire thing from his vantage point and could only stare in horror.
"Are you guys live?" Snotlout asked, looking at the others when the explosion finally stopped.
"That would have been awesome it wasn't so terrifying," said Tuffnut.
"I'm with you, bro," said Ruffnut.
"Well, the twins seem to be perfectly normal," said Heather. "I'm good. Though my head is ringing a bit."
"Mine too," Fishlegs groaned.
Heather looked up and saw Hiccup and Astrid making their way towards them.
"Astrid! Hiccup!" she said, looking relieved. "At the two of you all right?"
"Yeah, it missed us," said Astrid.
"Where's Valka's Squad?" Snotlout asked.
Astrid looked at Hiccup, who looked completely devastated. "They were right underneath the blast zone."
All of their eyes widened when they realised that Valka and the rest of her squad were gone. To make matters worse, they were now face-to-face with the Colossal.
Fishlegs gulped. "Are you saying… the only ones who survived are the eight of us?"
Clueless then swiped down at a few buildings destroying some and setting others on fire with the heat coming off his body.
"Oh no," said Heather as the rubble fell across the city, no doubt, in an attempt to wipe out any other Scouts that survived.
Snotlout looked at Hiccup. "Hiccup, what do we do now? We can't just wait to get flattened by burning houses."
Astrid placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hiccup, your in command now. We'll follow you to the end."
Hiccup just stood there in shock. He was still recovering from the death of his mother, and now he was in charge. It was now his job to tackle 50 foot Titan could easily squash them like ants, not to mention there was Dogsbreath to contend with once he was fully healed.
"We retreat," said Hiccup. "Fall back to my father and request new orders. To beat the Colossal Titan in a battle of attrition as planned, we have to keep our distance."
"That was the plan, but if we let the Colossal Titan reach the Wall, the others will be finished," Astrid pointed out. "He'll spread that fire to the houses past the gate; our other squads will be trapped between a Titan and the flames."
Hiccup realised that she was right. "You're right! Our only hope is to beat Clueless right here right now! And we won't get help; we have to do with the people we have here!"
Everyone knew that was a tall order; so far, no one has been successful in bringing down the Colossal. Plus, if Dogsbreath got involved, things would be even more complicated, and they had no idea what the situation was beyond the Wall.
Rubble then crashed from the sky, destroying the houses in front of them.
"Hey, Hiccup! Your orders!" said Tuffnut. "Come on!"
"What should we do?" Ruffnut asked.
Hiccup was too stunned to speak; his next move could easily determine the course of the battle.
Stoick was completely aware of the situation, able to see both battlefields at once from his position.
He then turned to look at the Beast Titan. "I bet you're pleased with yourself. Your plan is working so far. What will you do next?"
