Chapter 3: Road To Becoming A Shinobi
7 Years Later*
It has been 7 years since Mito and Naruto moved into their new house in the Hidden Leaf Village.
Life for Naruto has be really nice. He's really popular around the Village and people really love him.
Whenever he's in the streets of Konoha, everyone waves to him and gives him this warm smile.
Naruto really loved his life but he loved his mother more than anything.
Today, his mother was gonna teach him how to unlock his chakra since he was gonna start the Ninja Academy in one year from now and he was excited to meet new people his age.
The only real friend Naruto had was his best friend, Sasuke Uchiha.
Him and Sasuke were like brothers and once Sasuke found out that Naruto was half Uchiha, their bond was inseparable.
They both haven't learned to use their chakra yet but they would always train in Taijutsu.
Naruto would always beat Sasuke easily. Sasuke really didn't mind that he always lost. In fact, it pushed him to try harder and surpass his limits.
Naruto was considered a prodigy in the Uchiha clan and even though he didn't live in the Uchiha Compound, they all accepted him and gave him a warm welcome whenever he visited the Uchiha compound to go to Sasuke's house.
Sasuke's mother, Mikoto, considered Naruto like her own son. She cared a lot for Naruto and helped him with whatever he needed.
Fugaku on the other hand didn't really show any emotions towards Naruto. Hell, he didn't even show any emotions to Sasuke, his own son.
To Naruto, Fugaku was a mystery and he didn't really mind because even though he showed no emotion, he always helped Naruto with whatever.
Itachi, Sasuke's older brother, was in the Anbu and didn't really show up at home because he was always busy but he loved Naruto like his own little brother.
He even taught Naruto some Taijutsu moves and helped him out with whatever flaws he had in his stance. Which really helped Naruto.
Now, Naruto was just waking up as his mother shook him awake.
"Naru-kun. Wake up, breakfast is done." Mito said as she shook Naruto awake.
"Kaa-chan. I'm up...stop shaking me" Naruto said tiredly as he sat up sluggish.
"Come on. Get up and get ready then come downstairs to eat, ok?" Mito said as she kissed Naruto on the forehead.
"Yes, Kaa-chan" Naruto said as he stood up, stretched, and yawned.
Mito chuckled and walked out of the room to let Naruto get ready.
"I really shouldn't have stayed up for that long last night" Naruto thought to his self as he yawned again.
He then walked into his bathroom and took his pajamas off to take a shower.
After a 30 mins he got out of the shower and brushed his teeth as he looked in the mirror.
His face has drastically changed since he was an infant, obviously.
His face looked the same as he looked exactly like his father. He had his usual black eyes and hair.
His hair was spiky with one long bang covering his right eye slightly. (He has the same hair as madara when he was a teenager)
After he finished brushing his teeth, he walked to his walk in closet and put on his favorite clothes.
He put on a black t-shirt with black shinobi pants and black shinobi sandals with tape on his ankles. He then put on a black robe that covered his whole body and showed the front of his legs. (Basically he just looks like Madara lol)
These clothes were special to Naruto as his mom said this was what his father wore when he was around his age.
Naruto didn't know much about his father. His mom never told him who he was but she always told him stories about his adventures and what his dream was.
She also told him that he died when Naruto was born because of a sickness. That hurt Naruto a lot as he never had a Father figure in his life and he always wanted to know his Father personality.
From all the stories that his mother told him, he always knew his dad was one of the most powerful Uchiha.
Naruto was very smart for his age so he figured if his dad was that strong then he was for sure in the Uchiha history books.
He tried to go to the Uchiha library and read up on his Father's clan history, but those books were very special.
Naruto needed his Father's clan Dojutsu, the Sharingan, to read any of those books. Without it, the books just looked blank. Thats why Naruto has been training hard and trying his hardest in everything he does because one day he hopes to unlock his own Sharingan.
Naruto walked downstairs to the kitchen and found his Mother sitting down, drinking coffee and reading a newspaper.
"Oh, there you are. It took you long enough." Mito said jokingly as she smiled.
"Yeah sorry about that. I've just been having a lot on my mind lately but I'll be fine." Naruto said as he sat down across from his Mother at the table.
"What's been on your mind?" Mito asked curiously as she put down her newspaper and looked at Naruto.
"I don't know. It's just, I know I can become very strong and I'm already smart but I don't think I can achieve my dads dream." Naruto said sadly.
Mito looked at Naruto shocked. She never even knew Naruto wanted to achieve his Father's dream as he never told her.
"Why not Naru-chan?" Mito asked with a raised eyebrow.
"Because this world is cruel. People are selfish and never think about things clearly. That's why Iwa and other Hidden villages hate the leaf. They hate the Leaf just because they are the most powerful Village but their too selfish and blinded by their own self gain that they want to take down the Leaf just for power." Naruto said annoyed as he closed his eyes and his eyebrows started twitching.
Mito jumped back in shock as she never expected Naruto to say something like that.
Naruto was only 7 but his mind was 27. He was way to smart and mature for his age.
Mito just looked at Naruto shocked. She didn't know what to say honestly.
Naruto chuckled a little at his mother's shock.
"But thats not all. They don't realize that if they all join together and become peaceful that they become way more powerful than any Village. Just think about it, imagine lets say the Hidden Cloud gets attacked by some random Village. If they just joined up with the other 4 Great Nations, those 4 Great Nations will help the Cloud as that Village is their allies and they don't want them to fall. The power of peace is greater than anything in this world. But sadly, that's not gonna happen. People are too stupid to realize that." Naruto said as he got annoyed again.
"Naru-chan you are correct. People are clouded by selfishness and thats why your father tried to make peace forcefully but it didn't work out in the end because you can't make someone like another person just because you said so." Mito said seriously as she took a sip of her coffee.
Naruto sighed as he thought about his Father.
He wondered what type of man he was. He wanted to know so much about his Father but he knew he would never have those questions answered.
"But Naru-chan, I know you can do it because I have faith in you. There is a way to make the world peaceful, you just have to find out how." Mito said confidently as she smiled at Naruto.
"Thank you, Kaa-chan. I shall not let you or Father down. I swear it." Naruto said as he pointed to his self, smiling.
"Good job. Now finish up so You can go study." Mito said as she took another sip of her coffee.
"But Kaa-chan, I already read every book you asked me too. I even read the extra ones" Naruto said deadpanned.
"What? How? Those books where 1000 page books and there were 4 of them." Mito said in shock.
"Why do you think I was so tired than usual? I stayed up all night and read every single one." Naruto said proudly as he smirked.
"Naru-chan." Mito said a little too sweetly.
"Yes, Kaa-chan?" Naruto said as he gulped in fear.
Mito got up and walked towards Naruto. As she was in font of him, she bopped his head hard.
"What did I tell you about staying up all night?" Mito said as an aura appeared around her.
"Oww. Damnit" Naruto said but soon shut up as he was bopped in the head again but harder.
"And what did I tell you about cussing?!" Mito said angrily.
"I'm sorry! It won't happen again! Just don't hit me!" Naruto said in a pleading tone.
"Don't do it again." Mito said as she calmed down.
Naruto rubbed his forehead as it was throbbing in pain.
"Now, follow me to the backyard near the lake so we can unlock your chakra" Mito said smiling.
Naruto immediately got up from excitement and followed his Mother to the backyard lake.
"Sit Down" Mito said as she sat under the shade of a tree.
Naruto sat down quickly and looked at his Mother.
"I want to test something before I teach him how to unlock chakra. His Father and I have the same ability but I wanna see if he has it too." Mito thought to herself as she finally spoke to Naruto.
"Naru-chan. I want you to do something for me before we start." Mito said as she got into a meditation pose.
"What is it, Kaa-chan?" Naruto asked curiously.
"Get into the position I'm in right now and try to concentrate and tell me what you feel." Mito said as she looked at Naruto analytically.
Naruto nodded and got into a meditation pose and closed his eyes.
He concentrated on his surroundings and tried his hardest to feel something but he didn't feel anything.
"Naru-chan, focus on the trees, grass, and all the nature around you and try to concentrate harder." Mito said as she stared at her son.
Naruto nodded and once again concentrated but this time he was more calm and focused.
After a few seconds Naruto felt a presence. It was a warm presence and it was glowing blue.
"I feel somebody or something's presence and what I'm guessing their chakra." Naruto explained.
Mito wasn't really shocked. Madara and her herself, were sensors.
"Your a sensor Naru-chan. That's very rare in the Ninja world." Mito said proudly.
"Really? So that means I can sense other people's presence and other things. Wow thats so amazing!" Naruto said as he opened his eyes and smiled.
"Yes, It's amazing. Good job." Mito said as she smiled.
"Now, before I tell you how to unlock your chakra, what can you tell me about chakra itself?" Mito asked.
"Chakra is the mixture between spiritual energy and the body's physical energy. It is essential to every jutsu technique that has and ever will be created. Once molded, it can be channeled through the chakra circulatory system, which is to chakra as the regular circulatory system is to blood, to any of the 361 chakra points in the body. Through various methods, the most common of which is hand seals." Naruto explained briefly.
"Ok and what are Jutsu?" Mito asked.
"Jutsu are the mystical arts a ninja will utilise in battle. To use a technique, the ninja will need to use their chakra. To perform a technique, the ninja will bring out and release the two energies of chakra. By forming hand seals, the ninja is able to manifest the desired technique. Because of the extensive number of hand seals and different combinations, there are thousands of potential techniques to be discovered." Naruto explained in detail as he smirked.
"And lastly, what are hand seals?" Mito asked.
"Hand seals perform many ninjutsu, genjutsu, and other secret arts other than taijutsu. The exact amount of chakra necessary to perform a simple technique is manipulated through hand seals. This will vary between the simplest of jutsu's to the most dynamic and most powerful." Naruto explained.
"The hand seals are Bird, Boar, Dog, Dragon, Ox, Tiger, Serpent, Rat, Horse, Monkey, Hare and Ram." Naruto explained as he showed every hand seal perfectly.
"Yes, you are correct Naru-chan. Seems like staying up all night isn't so bad" Mito said jokingly.
"See? I don't see how its a problem." Naruto pouted.
"Because you have things to do the next day." Mito said annoyed.
"Okay Naru-chan first I want you to make this hand sign. This is the ram hand sign. Using any one of the hand signs will help to bring out your chakra and bring it to the surface. The ram had sign is the one most used when starting out to first draw their chakra." Mito explained briefly.
"Now to draw out your chakra you have to dig deep inside and try to draw it out. Search deep down and wait until you feel a warm sensation in your stomach. When you feel it, try to focus in on it and then pull it out to the surface. I will demonstrate." Mito said seriously.
Naruto watched as his mother closed her eyes taking a few deep breaths before exhaling. After about ten seconds Naruto felt a strong burst of energy come from his mother which surprised him immensely.
He could feel how warm it was he felt it flowing smoothly from her. He observed attentively for a few moments and was able to see a blue like aura appearing around her.
"Was that chakra Kaa-chan, The blue thing around you?" Naruto asked excitedly, he really wanted to do the exercise even more now after watching his mother.
She opened her eyes and Naruto could see the blue aura had now disappeared. Mito smiled when she saw her son's excited face.
"It was. Try to extract enough chakra then it can become visible around you and will be a light blue color." Mito explained happily.
"Now it is my turn," Naruto said happily and his mother nodded softly.
"Though don't be sad if you don't manage to do it Naru-chan. It takes time to activate your chakra for the first time." Mito advised sagely.
"Okay but I will try my best," Naruto said with determination, Mito smiled and settled for watching her son access his chakra for the first time. It was a really nostalgic moment for her and her eyes became a little moist as she realized her little boy was now growing up.
She watched as Naruto closed his eyes and took deeps breaths similar to what she did moments ago. The ram hand sign he made was shaking a little but she knew it was because Naruto was very excited as he did not want to let her down.
A few minutes passed and Naruto opened his eyes with sad look on his face.
"I couldn't find it. I did not feel that warm feeling in my tummy." Naruto said disappointingly.
"That's okay Naru-chan, I did say you might not be able to do it the first time around. It takes a few tries to first do it. You just have to keep trying and eventually it will happen." Mito said encouragingly
"Okay I guess I can try again," he said as he got back in his meditative pose and made the ram hand sign again. He closed his eyes and took a few more deep breaths.
Mito watched her son try again, she didn't know why but she had a feeling that her son would be successful this time. Maybe it was a mother's intuition.
"I have to find a pull in my tummy," Naruto thought firmly and searched around in his body while keeping as calm as he could. After another minute he still could not feel it so he gritted his teeth a little in frustration.
"I need to unlock my chakra so I can protect Kaa-chan and fulfill my Father's dream," Naruto thought determinedly.
Just when he finished he felt a pull in his stomach and felt a warm sensation appear there.
"Could this be my chakra?" Naruto thought curiously and started doing as Mito had said and focused more on the warm sensation and started pulling it to the surface.
When he did it felt like his whole body suddenly became warm and felt his fingers and his toes tingle.
Outside Mito smiled a big smile when she saw a tiny blue aura appear around her son. She was about to go forward and hug him. She wanted to congratulate him, for activating his chakra for the first time, but was a little caught off guard when she felt the power of his chakra.
"His chakra, it's so powerful. Though it is very small but it is stronger than my own. It's like Madara's but toned down." Mito thought amazed.
Though she also felt how untamed it felt. Once Naruto got use to activating his chakra, she would most likely have to show him one of the basic chakra control exercises.
Mito decided it was enough now as Naruto would be very tired by now and she did not want him to overdo it.
Mito shook Naruto a little which made him lose focus and the chakra he was emitting stopped. He opened his eyes to his mother looking at him with joyful looks on her face which made him smile a big smile.
"I did it." said Naruto happily and jumped high in the air. Mito was quite surprised that Naruto even had this much energy left.
"Wow Kaa-chan. That felt so amazing and warm." Naruto said smiling.
"I'm proud of you Naru-chan." Mito said as she hugged Naruto.
"So. When does training start?" Naruto asked curiously.
Mito chuckled at how determined he was to become strong. Even though he just unlocked his chakra, he already wanted to train.
"Naru-chan. That's enough for today, your chakra must be almost gone." Mito said as she pulled away from the hug.
"What do you mean. I'm not tired at all." Naruto said as he tilted his head sideway in confusion.
"Does he have Uzumaki levels of chakra?" Mito thought to herself as she looked at Naruto's chakra pools.
"Oh my god! His chakra pools are off the charts for a 7 year old!" Mito thought to herself out loud.
"Uhh, Kaa-chan. You ok?" Naruto asked as he waved his hand in front of his Mother, trying to get her attention.
"Yeah, sorry about that. It's just you have so much chakra that I'm shocked." Mito said truthfully.
"Anyway since you have a lot of chakra left. In order to perform any ninjutsu or genjutsu you need to first of all have a good control over your chakra. A jutsu is a combination of your physical and spiritual energy and they are executed through the application of hand seals. In order to do that I'll teach you chakra control exercises" Mito briefly explained as she walked towards a tree.
Naruto gave a firm nod indicating he understood his mother.
"I have to live up to Kaa-chan's expectations." Naruto thought with determination as he remembered his Mother saying she believed in him and that there was a way to make peace.
Konoha was his home, this was the country he was born in. He would do everything to protect his motherland and would become powerful to protect it from enemies and create peace so nobody had to suffer.
Mito saw the look in her son's eyes and a proud smile came on her face. Her son was becoming a shinobi for the right reasons and he had a great determination in his eyes too.
"Alright, let's do this." Mito said enthusiastically.
She then plucked a leaf from the tree and handed it to Naruto, gaining a confused look from her elder son.
"Kaa-chan, what am I supposed to do with this leaf?" Naruto asked confusedly
Mito chuckled a little and ruffled her son's black spiky hair, earning a pout from Naruto.
"Well, this is the first chakra control exercise which you will learn. It is called Leaf Balancing." Mito said happily
"Leaf Balancing?" Naruto asked curiously and observed the leaf a little more closely.
"Yes, This training method is done by placing a leaf over an individual's forehead and having them direct all their chakra onto the leaf, using it as a focal point. This is the first exercise that will help you in controlling your chakra. Make the leaf float with the help of your chakra. Here I'll show you." Mito said briefly
Mito then tore another leaf from the tree and put it on his forehead. She then closed her eyes in order to concentrate and show her son how it's done.
Meanwhile Naruto was observing every minute detail of his Mother. He had watched how she had put the leaf at the center of her forehead, he could feel his Mother had now calmed her chakra. For a few moments there was nothing.
But then something started to change.
He used his sensor skills and was able to realize that his Mother was slowly sending her chakra to her forehead. Naruto closed his eyes to concentrate more and now he could feel a blue aura radiating around his Mother's body indicating the use of her chakra.
He could feel a stream of his Mother's chakra slowly concentrating around her forehead. It was slow and very calm, he opened his eyes and was surprised when he saw the leaf floating a few feet above in the air.
"I get it now." Naruto thought happily as he understood the entire exercise.
Being a sensor rocks!
"So, you see its done this way. Now you try it, but don't be sad if you aren't able to do it the first time." Mito advised.
"You'll see, Kaa-chan." said Naruto with a smirk and put the leaf on his forehead
"(sigh) He is a little overconfident!" Mito thought tiredly, but she really was interested if her son could do it in the first time. Mito theorized that Naruto had great observation skills and if that was true then he would learn this exercise in no time.
"Stay calm and focused. I'll send a stream of my chakra as a tidal wave." Naruto thought firmly.
Mito started sensing chakra radiating from her son's body. She was quite surpirsed again by the power of Naruto's chakra. It was firm and strong this time though. She knew her son's chakra will be very very powerful in the near future.
Naruto was concentrating hard and had closed his eyes.
"Focus..." Naruto thought with determination and slowly started sending chakra to his forehead.
What happened next surprised Mito to the core.
The leaf on Naruto's head started floating slowly above his forehead. At first it was one, now two, three and finally it was five feet above Naruto's forehead and was flowing effortlessly.
"He mastered it in the first time!" Mito thought suprised.
"Nice and easy." Naruto thought happily and continued the process.
He was interuppted from his thoughts when he heard clapping. He slowly reduced his chakra and brought the leaf down slowly and caught it in his hands. He opened his eyes and was now face to face with his Mother who was having a vibrant smile on her face.
"I'm really proud of you. You mastered it in the first time." Mito congratulated happily and gave Naruto a pat on his shoulders.
"It was nothing, Kaa-chan." Naruto said sheepishly and scratched the back of his head.
"I admit this exercise is very easy, but even it took me a few minutes to learn it, while you mastered it in the first time. How did you do it?" Mito asked curiously with a smile.
Naruto gave a small smile and decided to explain to his father how he understood the exercise and its concept.
"I used my sensor skills in order to feel the way you used your chakra. You kept your chakra calm and concentrated it in a small proportion and used it to elevate the leaf, the key is not sending more chakra but in maintaining the flow." Naruto explained briefly.
"He indeed has a very keen sense of observation. I was right." Mito thought to herself happily.
"So, you used your sensor skills to determine the exercise and it concepts. Don't you think it was cheating?" Mito asked skeptically, she really wanted to know what beliefs her son had on becoming a shinobi and as such was testing him.
"Not at all. Onii-chan told me, that shinobi use every tool they have to complete their objective. My sensor ability is my tool and if I use it for the greater good and protecting my precious people then I don't think I have cheated, Kaa-chan." said Naruto honestly
"Very well said. Always use the tools you have, no matter how small or insignificant they seem, they'll keep you alive." Mito said sagely
"Hai" said Naruto with a nod.
"Now, since you are very good at controlling your chakra we will elevate your training to the next level." Mito instructed.
"What is it, Kaa-chan?" Naruto asked curiously, he really was excited to see what new challenge his Mother had for him.
Mito chuckled a little on hearing her son's curious tone, she then walked towards a nearby tree and started walking on it just with the help of her legs.
"Let's see you try this time" Mito said with a smirk
At first Naruto was shocked when he saw his Mother climbing the tree, but then he calmed his nerves. Every jutsu and technique had a way, he just had to find that key. He knew it won't be easy, but if he could keep his cool he could surely find a way.
Suddenly an idea popped in his head and he decided to try it.
Mito expected her son to jump and cry out in surprise but Naruto was acting strangely.
Her son had strangely come forward and had now put his left hand on the tree and had closed his eyes. Mito didn't know what Naruto was doing.
"What is he doing?" Mito thought confusedly
She observed Naruto, he was trying to focus very hard. It was as if Naruto was trying to find an answer from the tree itself, her son really was a strange one.
Mito observed Naruto for a few minutes, he hadn't moved from his spot and was in the same position. She could see that whatever her son was doing was something unique and something which Mito had never seen.
After a few minutes, Naruto opened his eyes and a wide smile cracked on his face, it was as if he had cracked a jackpot.
"What's going on?" Mito thought in confusion, she was now sitting on top of the tree and was waiting for any type of response from her son.
She could just have asked her son, but from her experience as Naruto's Mother, Mito knew Naruto had very unique skills and was very different from the others. He had learned to walk when he was only a few months old, Naruto had his own ways and Mito wanted him to find his own path.
Naruto stepped a few meters back from the tree and stood straight.
"Alright, here we go." Naruto thought firmly
He then made the Ram hand seal and now Mito was really curious as to what her son was up to.
"WTF!" Mito thought shocked, her mouth was wide open and her eyes couldn't believe what they were seeing.

Naruto had slowly climbed each and every step of that 15 feet tree without stopping or using any of his hands. He didn't falter, he didn't lose balance, he didn't stop, he didn't lose focus.
He just climbed the damn tree itself in one single try.
"What is he?" Mito thought shocked.
She was shell shocked on seeing her son standing right beside her, hanging upside down from the tree. The cool breeze was making his spiky black hair flow freely.
Naruto was relaxed, it was as if he had accomplished a daily task.
"Is that it?" Naruto asked shrugging his shoulders.
""IS THAT IT"?! YOU JUST DID SOMETHING THAT TAKES PEOPLE DAYS TO PERFECT!" Mito yelled annoying.
"Well it really wasn't that hard to be honest." Naruto said chuckling nervously.
"Ok. Thats it for today. We can start training again tomorrow." Mito said as it started to get dark outside.
"Hai, Kaa-chan." Naruto said as he jumped down from the tree and walked inside, Mito right behind him.
"I'm gonna pass on dinner tonight, Kaa-chan. I'm just gonna go to sleep, I'm spend." Naruto said tiredly as he walked upstairs to his room and flopped on his bed.
"Naru-chan, I don't think you realize how special you truly are" Mito thought to herself smiling.
