Chapter 2: Full Moon Rising
A cool breeze washed over Hayley as she opened her eyes. She was no longer in the mausoleum, that much was clear. All she could see above her were treetops and the sunlight shining through. She went to sit up but stopped when she felt a sharp pain in her back. It became evident that - wherever she was - she must have literally fallen through and landed hard on the ground.
She looked around then, seeing that she was surrounded by nothing but trees and vast wilderness in all directions. After a moment, she then stood up, holding her back as she did so. She came to realize that these woods were completely unfamiliar to her. They were definitely not the woods surrounding Storybrooke. They were more dense and full of greenery; beautiful, yet...terrifying.
The portal that Regina had opened had sent her God only knows where. She began to look around, hoping that by chance her parents or even Regina herself had fallen through with her.
"Hello?" Hayley called out in desperation. "Hello?! Is anyone out here?"
No answer. The only sound to follow was the light breeze continuing to flow through the woods.
Hayley's breathing suddenly became shaky when she made the horrifying realization - she was completely alone.
But where the hell was she? There was only one other place that Regina would have tried to escape to, and that was the Enchanted Forest. But like Regina had told them before, it was destroyed after the curse. So with that being the case, where else could that portal have led to?
After walking for a bit, Hayley began thinking. If the Enchanted Forest had been destroyed, maybe it wasn't entirely gone. Maybe where she had landed was on a blank slate, a land wiped clean from all that once was. That thought in itself absolutely horrified her. If she was completely alone in a desolate wasteland, then she was absolutely fucked.
"Hello?" Hayley began calling out once more. "Is anyone there?"
"Are you lost, miss?" A voice was suddenly heard responding. Hayley snapped her head back and saw a woman with a wheelbarrow, standing just ten feet away. The woman was older and was dressed extremely outdated, to say the least. Hayley gazed upon her in surprise, while the woman seemed to be waiting for an answer.
"Uh...um..." Hayley began, trying to find the words to say before she approached the woman. "Y-yeah. I am."
"You are not from here," The woman remarked.
"That obvious, huh?" Hayley asked.
"Well," The woman began. "You are dressed a bit...unusual."
Hayley looked down. She was wearing her typical attire: ripped jeans, a long knitted black cardigan with a tank top underneath, and her old black combat boots. She looked back up at the woman, almost wanting to laugh at her statement. I'm dressed unusual, huh? Hayley thought to herself. What about you, lady?
"No, I'm not from here," Hayley confessed. "I'm...from somewhere really, really far away, and...I'm lost."
The old woman gave Hayley a sympathetic look before reaching her hand out to her.
"Come with me," The woman said. "I'll help you."
The old woman took Hayley to her small village in the woods, where Hayley was shocked to see that there were numerous other people living there. She wondered how the hell it was possible. Were they somehow "survivors" of the curse that were left behind? Surely they couldn't be. Henry had told her the curse had affected every last person in the land. If that was the case, then how the hell were all these people still there?
She had to get to the bottom of it.
The woman brought Hayley to her small cottage, where Hayley sat at the table as the woman gave her some water to drink. She then began preparing a meal for them. Just in case it would be her last meal for a while, Hayley gladly accepted. She took a huge gulp of her water before beginning to ask the woman questions.
"So..." Hayley began. "If you don't mind me asking...how are you all still here?"
The woman looked taken aback by that question.
"What ever do you mean, child?" The woman inquired.
"Well," Hayley began again. "You know, with the curse. The one that sent everyone away."
"I've never heard of such a curse," The woman replied as she poured some stew into several bowls for them.
"Really?" Hayley asked.
"Yes," The woman nodded as she brought the bowls over the table.
"How is that possible?" Hayley asked herself quietly. She looked down, deep in thought.
"Perhaps it happened a long time ago," The woman claimed, going to sit across from Hayley at the table. "Long before me anyway."
"There's no way that's possible," Hayley replied, shaking her head. "I mean, the curse sent everyone away, so there's no way in hell there would still be people here. Is this the only village around?"
"Oh heavens, no!" The woman exclaimed. "There's villages and kingdoms as far as the eye can see."
"And they all have...people in them?" Hayley inquired.
"Of course!" The woman said.
This only made Hayley even more confused. She went quiet then as infinite thoughts and questions overtook her mind.
"You really should eat, dear," The woman said, pushing Hayley's bowl of stew closer to her.
"S-sorry," Hayley told her. "I...I'm just so...confused."
"About what?" The woman asked.
"I'm not from this place," Hayley told her. "But I've heard all about it. That 26 years ago, the queen put a curse on the land called the 'Dark Curse' and it sent everyone in here to a completely different world. If that's true, I don't know how there would still be villages and kingdoms full of people."
"Which Queen?" The old woman asked, furrowing her brow in confusion. "The Queen of our land, Queen Amara, just passed away."
"I, uh..." Hayley began. "I don't know how many queens there are around here, but uh...this one's name was Regina."
"That name doesn't sound very familiar," The woman replied after taking a bite of her stew. "Are you sure she was from this land?"
"I think so," Hayley said. "Did Queen Amara have any kids, or..."
"Yes," The woman replied. "She and her husband bore a son five years ago. Prince Henry."
Hayley glared at the woman upon hearing the name. It was the only thing she recognized out of the entire conversation. The woman noticed the look on her face.
"Are you alright, dear?" She asked in concern.
"I..." Hayley began, struggling to find the words to say. "It's just...Henry. That's my son's name."
"Is it?" The woman inquired. "That is quite the coincidence."
"What was the queen's name again?" Hayley quickly asked, desperate for more information.
"Amara," The woman replied. "Her husband, King Xavier, is still alive. It's just him and their son now. Poor things."
Hayley sat back for a moment, trying to piece everything together in her mind. King Xavier and Queen Amara were the ones in charge, or at least the ones in charge of that particular region/land/what-the-fuck-ever. And they have a son, who just so happens to have the same name as her son. Could it just be some weird coincidence? Or...was it something more?
Regardless, she knew that in the end it really didn't matter. She just needed to find a way home. And now that she knew there were people around, her chances of finding a way home had increased greatly. If she was somehow in the Enchanted Forest, maybe there was magic around. Maybe she could find someone with magic, like a fucking wizard or something, who could open another portal to send her home.
After finishing her food, she decided to ask the woman for directions.
"So...where would the next town over be?"
The old woman led Hayley out of the village and pointed her in the direction of the nearest town, which was another small town near the harbor. From there, Hayley could sneak onto a ship and travel much faster from place to place to hopefully track down someone with magic. The old woman was even kind enough to give Hayley some gold, which they apparently used as currency - just in case she needed it. She thanked the old woman for her kindness before going on her way.
It took a good portion of the day to reach the port town due to traveling on foot. In fact, the sun was already going down by the time she reached it. One thing she noticed upon first walking into the town was that it seemed a lot more sketchy than the old woman's village. Hayley quickly noticed a lot of eyes on her as she made her way through the streets; eyes that belonged to some not-so-favorable-looking people. Oh well. She had lived in several rough neighborhoods throughout her time growing up in Boston, so she was all too used to sketch.
As she walked on, she soon came across a tavern. She exhaled as she looked at it, knowing she was starving after not eating since that morning. However, she debated whether or not she should go in. She knew just from the atmosphere of the town that this kind of place would most likely be a fairytale-land version of the seedy bars in Boston, where all of the druggies and horndogs would go to hang out. However, she decided to go in anyway to at least get some food in her stomach. She needed to eat something before hitching a ride on one of the ships.
She entered the tavern and it was exactly what she'd imagined. It was full of sleazy-looking people who were all drunk off their asses, laughing and talking as loud as could be. She made her way past them to what appeared to be the "bar" area, sitting in one of the open seats. Several people sitting around her immediately looked over at her, and she tried her absolute best not to make eye contact.
"Hello there, miss," Hayley heard a voice say, looking up to see who she could only assume to be the "bartender". "What can I get for you?"
"Uh, hi..." Hayley began, pulling out the pouch of gold the woman gave her. "Here, just...get me whatever food you have. I don't even care, I'm just hungry."
She set two gold coins on the bartop and slid them over to the bartender guy. He seemed surprised, so Hayley immediately knew she was somehow overpaying, but she didn't give a shit. She just wanted food.
"Yes, ma'am," The bartender guy replied before turning to walk away. Hayley gave him a polite smile as he did so before looking down, deep in thought. She then let out a long stretch before setting her arms back down on the bartop, feeling exhausted after her long walk.
It was then that she felt several eyes on her.
She turned to the side to see that the people sitting beside her weren't looking her way anymore. Rather, they were drunkenly laughing and talking amongst themselves. This caused Hayley to slowly turn her head back the other way, and that's when she saw who was looking at her.
It was a decent-sized group of men all sitting at a large table in the corner. They were all glaring at her, not even bothering to look away now that she was looking back at them. Several then began whispering to each other. What they were saying was obviously not very decipherable, but she did however make out several words: "the mark".
Confused, Hayley then looked down to see that her cardigan had slipped off of her right shoulder to reveal her birthmark. She quickly pulled her cardigan back up to cover it, giving the men a hard look before turning back around. She had half a mind to turn back around and ask the men what the fuck they were looking at, but she ultimately decided against it. The last thing she needed was to get into a fight with anyone, especially when she was going to be needing help.
But still, Hayley couldn't shake the feeling of these men staring at her. She knew that no matter what, their intentions were not good. Despite not getting any food yet, she ultimately decided to just leave and start heading to another town to stay the night in.
Hayley then swiftly got up from her seat and began to walk out, feeling the men continuing to watch her as she did. She fought the urge to look back at them as she opened the door of the tavern and quickly shut it behind her. Once she was out of there, Hayley then began to speed walk and hurry the hell out of that town. As she did, she began thinking about what just happened with those guys back there. What the hell were they even looking at her for? And not only that, but why were they whispering to each other about her birthmark?
Oh well. Whatever their deal was, she was not about to stick around to find out. Now, all she could focus on was getting the fuck out. She tried her best to re-track her movements from when she first came into the town, but it wasn't as easy as she thought it would be. The town was bigger than the small village she had first visited. But still, Hayley was determined to re-trace her steps.
However, that was when she suddenly heard footsteps behind her.
She turned her head to look back, seeing several men walking next to each other and seemingly heading in her direction. However, as she turned to look at them, they then went to turn the other way. At that same moment, she heard footsteps just ahead of her as well, so she instinctively turned her head back around. Several more men were walking toward her, but they weren't stopping. She then turned to the side to begin walking down what appeared to be an alleyway. It wasn't the safest escape plan, but it was the only option she had.
Or so she thought, as several more men appeared on the other side of the alley as well, blocking her path.
Before she could even turn around, Hayley noticed even more men coming up on either side of her. Her breathing became shaky as they drew closer and she began to recognize them to be the group of men from the tavern. It was now abundantly clear that these men did not have good intentions, and Hayley knew she was going to have to think quickly to get away from them. She decided she was just going to turn back around and try to make a run for it.
But once she did turn around, she was shocked to see another man standing right there behind her. However, it wasn't his sudden presence that shocked her. Rather...it was that she immediately recognized who he was.
It was the man that had been stalking her back in Storybrooke...the man with the red hat.
Her eyes widened in complete shock upon seeing him. She opened her mouth to speak, but couldn't find the words to say. Instead, it was he who broke the silence.
"Forgive us, miss. We don't mean to frighten you."
Hayley's shock immediately turned to confusion when he said these words. "Miss"? What the hell was he calling her that for? When they had met back in Storybrooke, he had definitely known her name.
"You..." Hayley said to him, not knowing what else to even say in that moment. He tilted his head to the side, as if he was just as confused as she was.
"Have we met?" The man asked her, only turning her confusion levels up even more.
"Y-yeah..." Hayley told him. "We met yesterday."
"I don't recall," The man replied. "Do you know my name?"
"No," Hayley informed him. "I-I never got it. Do you know mine?"
The man then smiled once again at her, only this time it seemed much more sinister.
"It's not of any importance, I'm sure."
Hayley then noticed the men surrounding her were all smiling at her in a similar fashion. Some were even looking her up and down while licking their lips. Hayley's throat tightened at this, knowing she was completely trapped in this situation. There was absolutely nothing she could do to get away. All that was left to do now was to try and talk her way out of it.
"Look," She began, looking back at the man with the red hat as she tried her best not to sound as scared as she was. "I don't have any money, alright?"
The man shook his head in response, smiling once more.
"It's not money we're wanting," He told her.
Fuck...Hayley thought to herself, seeing the men begin drawing closer and closer to her. Oh God, no. Please, no...
"Then..." Hayley asked the man anxiously, still trying to maintain her composure. "Wh-what do you want?"
The man sighed before looking away from her. Almost as if to say "as if you don't already know". But he then looked back at her, and said something else. Something completely unexpected.
"I dare say," He began. "It was quite foolish showing your face around these parts. Because now...you're going to have to come with us. Wolf."
Before Hayley could even think or say anything else, the men surrounding her went to seize her. They grabbed onto her and locked her into place, making it impossible for her to get away.
"Wha...hey!" She yelled before she began to scream at the top of her lungs. "HEY!"
Several of the men then covered her mouth with their hands as they carried her away, leading her towards the docks as they laughed the entire way there.
It didn't take long for the men to reach their destination with Hayley in tow. Once at the docks, they approached a large, old-timey looking ship...a pirate ship. Hayley quickly figured out why she had gotten such a bad vibe from these men back at the tavern. They were pirates...fucking pirates.
She was so fucked, and she knew it. But then she remembered what the man with the red hat had said to her. He had called her "wolf", something he probably came to inference after seeing her birthmark. Henry had told her all that time ago that it was the crescent mark: the "mark of the beast" for werewolves. Not only that, but her dad and uncle were apparently werewolves, which would make her one as well.
Except, she wasn't.
Henry had even seen that night for himself that she didn't turn into a wolf during the full moon. Sure she may have inherited the birthmark for some reason, but she knew she wasn't an actual werewolf. But why would these pirates be interested in the fact that she was one? Or rather, that they *thought* she was one? What the fuck was going on?!
The men led her onto the ship, with her attempting to fight back the whole way but to no avail, as about ten of these men were holding her down. The man with the red hat led the way on board. Once they were all there, the men then uncovered Hayley's mouth. She immediately wanted to scream, but she knew it was no use now that they all had her right where they wanted her. She then watched as the man with the red hat approached someone standing a few feet away with his back to the rest of them.
"Captain," The man with the red hat spoke. "We've brought you a gift."
The man he was speaking to then turned around, and that's when Hayley first saw him.
Of all of the men - pirates - standing there at that moment, she knew just by looking at this one that he was the worst and most dangerous of them all. Black was clearly his color. His clothes, his shoes, even his hair were as black as night. The only thing of color she could see on him were his eyes. They were a bright and icy blue, standing out like a sore thumb amongst his dark attire. They flickered over to meet Hayley's before he smiled sinisterly and began to walk over to her.
"Yes, I suppose you have," The man purred as he approached.
Hayley felt her breathing become heavy as he stood before her, beginning to look her up and down. She tried to remain defiant as she looked up at him, but she was clearly intimidated.
"She is quite stunning, isn't she?" The man spoke once more before his smile faded, turning back towards the man with the red hat. "But besides that, how exactly is she a 'gift'?"
The man with the red hat then approached his captain and whispered something into his ear. His captain's expression then dropped before he turned to look back at Hayley.
"Is she now?" He asked as the man with the red hat pulled away. "Well, go on then. Show it to me."
The men holding her quickly went force her body up against a post. She tried her best to fight back, but once again to no avail. The pirates then pulled down the sleeve of her cardigan, causing her to jump involuntarily as she assumed they were undressing her. But they stopped then, though continuing to hold her firmly in place.
"Yes," Hayley heard the captain say, though she was now facing away from him. After a moment, she then winced as she felt him lightly touch the back of her shoulder where her birthmark was. She squeezed her eyes shut, trying to fantasize that she was anywhere but there. But the voice of the captain quickly broke through her fantasy.
"So it's true then. She is a wolf."
Hayley then opened her eyes, widening them once more in confusion. What the hell was this whole "wolf" thing about? She wasn't even a werewolf! And even if she was, who cares?!
"At ease, gentlemen," The captain then told his men. "Let the lady breathe."
The pirates then loosened their grip as Hayley turned around, breaking free from their grasp as she glared angrily at their "captain".
"What is this?!" She exclaimed. "What do you want with me?!"
"What do we want with you?" The captain repeated, chuckling a bit. "I think that's a bit obvious, don't you think? Given what you are."
"What?" Hayley asked, completely bewildered.
"Curious how you're still drawing breath," The captain spoke over her. "Especially after all this time. King Xavier ordered the extinction of werewolves quite some time ago. They were all long thought to be dead, yet here you are. And now...well, now you're all yours."
Hayley glared at him as he said this. King Xavier...he was the one the old woman had told her about.
"The extinction of werewolves?" Hayley asked, her voice a bit shaky.
The captain then furrowed his brow and tilted his head in confusion before he responded.
"You're not from here. Are you?"
Hayley then sighed, realizing exactly what these pirates were now wanting from her. If this king had ordered the extinction of werewolves for...whatever reason, he probably had some kind of reward out for any left. Clearly, since these guys had seen her mark, they had assumed she was one as well. All she had to do was prove to them that she wasn't one and convince them to let her go.
"No," Hayley then replied to the captain. "And I hate to break it to you, 'captain', but I'm not a werewolf."
The captain then burst into laughter, with his lackeys all following suit. The man with the red hat, who continued to stand right beside his captain, was laughing especially hard. Hayley glared at him with hate, wanted nothing more than to knock his ass out.
"She's not a werewolf, she says!" The captain mocked her as he looked to his lackeys, who all continued to laugh along with him.
"I'm not!" Hayley insisted, giving him a hard look to try and prove her point. However, he didn't seem to give a shit.
"Then why exactly do you bear the mark?" He asked her.
"Because it's a birthmark," Hayley told him, matter-of-factly. "And people have those."
"But..." The captain began, approaching her once more. "It's no ordinary birthmark, now is it? It's the crescent mark, that of which all werewolves bear."
"Fine," Hayley told him in defiance as he stood right before her once more. "Still not a werewolf."
The captain then sighed, seeing full well that she was not going to budge. She returned his gaze with a hard expression to let him know she would not be fucked with. It was then that the captain's eyes flickered up behind her towards the sky. His sinister smile then reappeared, causing Hayley to turn around to see what he was looking at.
Several clouds moved out of the way to reveal the moon in the sky...the full moon.
"Well, would you look at that," The captain spoke.
Hayley turned to look at him, and he looked back down to return her gaze. His sinister smile grew even bigger then, and it pissed Hayley off to her very core.
"I suppose tonight, we'll find out for certain," The captain said, beginning to back away. He then looked to his lackeys and then back to Hayley before speaking an order to his men.
"Bring her to the hold."
The men surrounding Hayley then went to seize her once more. Though she tried even harder to fend them off, there was nothing she could do as they followed their captain to the lower decks of the ship with her in tow.
The hold of the ship was pitch black, and Hayley immediately became fearful. What the hell were they going to do to her down there? She began thinking the absolute worst.
"What is this?!" She began yelling at the captain. "What are you doing?!"
She didn't get a response, however. Instead, a lantern was then lit as she saw the captain hold it up. As he did, it's light revealed a large jail cell of sorts on the other side of the room, complete with metal bars. The sight of it sent Hayley into a complete panic as the men began to lead her towards it. She began screaming in protest.
"No, no, no, NOOOO!"
"Get her in there," The captain barked at his crew. "Quickly!"
Hayley screamed at the top of her lungs as she was forced into the cell. The men threw her to the ground and quickly locked the cell door behind her. She then stood up and began shaking the bars in desperation.
"Let me go!" Hayley angrily shouted at the captain.
"And why would I do that?" He responded. "So you can slaughter my crew?"
"What?!" Hayley yelled in exasperation. "What are you talking about? How would I even do that?!"
"Well," The captain began. "Perhaps you would have some difficulties now, while you're still human.
Hayley glared at him in bewilderment.
"What?" She asked him breathlessly.
The captain then walked right up to her cage and got as close to her face as he could while he spoke.
"But as the sun sets and the full moon rises…you'll soon be showing us the monster within."
That was it. Hayley put her face up as close to the bars as she could manage, looking the captain dead in the eyes as she responded.
"I am not...a fucking...werewolf."
The captain rolled his eyes at this and looked away. But Hayley didn't give a shit as she continued to try and reason with him.
"Whatever this birthmark means here, where I come from, it doesn't mean shit. You wanna know why? Because I've never once in my 26 years of being alive, have turned into a fucking wolf!"
"Then why else would you have the mark?" The captain asked her.
Hayley was about to tell him it was because her father is a werewolf, but she quickly stopped herself. Saying she inherited the birthmark but not the werewolf curse was not going to help her case. Instead, she decided to play dumb.
"I don't know," Hayley said. "But I'm telling you, I'm not a werewolf. I don't know how many times I've gotta say it, but you better let me out of this cage or I—"
"I'd hurry up and start undressing if I were you," The captain interrupted. "I'm sure the only clothes you have are the ones on your back. Be a shame to ruin them during your transformation."
You'd like that wouldn't you, asshole? Hayley thought as she gave him a look. Well, too bad so sad. He was going to spend the rest of that night sorely disappointed that she not only didn't turn into a wolf, but also that she didn't immediately start stripping for him.
"Well luckily," Hayley began in a taunting voice. "I'm not going to be transforming into anything, so."
"If you'd prefer to wear nothing for the rest of the voyage," The captain retorted with a smirk. "Suit yourself."
Hayley gave him another look before rolling her eyes and looking away. She could feel him continuing to stare at her while she at the same time began to look out the porthole window behind her. There it was, the full moon now standing freely in the night sky. She waited a few moments for good measure before turning to look back at the captain with a taunting smile.
"What did I tell you?" She told him, continuing to smile before she backed away a few steps and held her hands out. "I'm not turning into anything."
The captain stared at her intently, as if waiting for her to spontaneously begin "transforming". But she knew that wasn't, and that she was never going to. She began to laugh at him as she approached the bars once more, continuing to taunt him as she spoke.
"You must feel pretty stupid right n—"
Just then, Hayley felt her one ankle snap, causing her to grab onto the bars for support. Her other ankle then snapped as well, causing her to yell out. She began to hyperventilate as she realized what was happening to her. No...no way. No FUCKING way! She looked up at the captain with wide eyes. In turn, he simply smiled in satisfaction.
"It's begun," He said. "Won't be long now."
Hayley looked up to see the man with the red hat turn away, along with several other crew members. She then looked back down, beginning to feel herself shake in fear. This couldn't be happening...it just couldn't be!
"No..." Hayley felt herself say before her entire body let out a sickening crack, causing her to fall to the floor. She felt her arms began to snap and re-shape themselves before she held one of her hands up. As she did, she glared in complete shock as it began to re-shape into a paw. She squeezed her eyes shut before she felt her back begin to snap and re-shape as well. This eventually caused her to lift her head up and scream as she opened her eyes. A growl was now present in her voice, and her once golden-brown eyes were now glowing yellow.
As her transformation continued, the captain all the while continued to watch intently. Watch her pain, watch her confusion...watch her suffer. The man with the red hat tried turning his head to look on as well, but then quickly looked away again. Most of the crew was looking away as well, and those who were watching seemed to be much more fearful than their captain.
The captain then looked to the man with the red hat, who was still looking away. In turn, his captain grabbed his face and began to turn it back around.
"Come now, Smee," The captain said to him as he turned to look back at Hayley, smiling sinisterly down at her. "You don't want to miss this."
Smee, however, kept his eyes squeezed shut in fear. Rightfully so, as Hayley's transformation was now nearing it's completion. Her body was now covered in fur, and her screams had turned into animalistic growls. Smee then opened his eyes, which immediately widened in horror as Hayley's body finally took the form of the one thing she had insisted she wasn't...a wolf.
Hayley's wolf form wasn't very monstrous. Like all werewolves, she was slightly bigger than the average wolf. Her fur was all white besides a light grey tinge that covered her backside, as well as the top of her head and ears. Her eyes were a bright yellow and glowed through the dark hold of the ship. As she stood there on all fours, she seemed to lose her balance a bit, clearly not used to being in this new form. Throughout her transformation, she was horrified and in complete shock. And now there she stood, in her wolf form, still just as shocked and horrified as ever.
The captain, however, clearly couldn't care less. He simply laughed in satisfaction as he let go of Smee, who remained frozen in shock along with a vast majority of the rest of the crew. The same could not be said for the captain, however, who walked right up to Hayley's cage and leaned down to her level as he spoke.
"Who's the stupid one now…little wolf?"
In response, Hayley took advantage of her new form and angrily snapped at him. This caused Smee and several other of the captain's lackeys to jump in fear and back away. The captain, however, was still unfazed as he stood back up and spoke to his crew.
"Relax, lads," He told them, continuing to look down at Hayley. "She's locked up."
Hayley meanwhile met his gaze, beginning to growl menacingly up at him. She would have torn him apart right then and there if she could, but of course she couldn't...and he knew that.
"She can't do anything to us," The captain said, giving Hayley one last taunting smile before turning to walk off with his lackeys. "Rest up, boys. We sail for the King's castle at dawn!"
As they all headed back up the stairs to the main deck, Smee went to follow behind them, grabbing the lantern on his way out. However, before he did so, he turned to look back at Hayley. The look on his face made it seem as though he actually felt bad for her. In response, Hayley began to whine at him, eager to be let out of her cage. Despite this, Smee sighed before turning back around to follow behind his captain. He closed the door behind him, leaving Hayley completely alone in the dark.
