Chapter 5
As the sun began to shine down on New Mobotropolis, Mina was continuing to sleep the day away in Castle Acorn.
Eventually, the light shining through the window had stirred her from her rest. When she opened her eyes, she was confused by her surroundings, not recognizing the room that she was in. She then suddenly remembered the events of the previous night, and everything made sense. Deciding that she wasn't going to be getting any more sleep, Mina got up, got dressed and made her way out of the room.
When she arrived at the entrance of the castle, she saw that Sally was on the phone, talking to someone.
"Yeah, please tell him to get here as soon as he can. We need to make sure that everything is going to be fine." Sally said into the phone. "Ok, love you too Sonic, talk to you later." And then she hung up and turned around and saw Mina. "Oh, good morning Mina! How did you sleep?"
"Not great…" Mina said groggily.
"Yeah, same here, I guess we both had a lot on our mind last night." Sally said. "Anyways, that was Sonic, he said Tails' parents are visiting him right now, so we should give them some space for a bit. In the meantime, how about we have some breakfast?"
Deciding that some food would do her some good, Mina decided to eat something, and the two of them went and got some cereal.
"So, you told Sonic that you wanted to see someone? What was that about?" Mina asked.
"Oh, he was going to go to GUN headquarters today to talk to Shadow, as well as get one of their machine experts who works on Omega to come here and examine Metal Sonic. It's very likely that Metal Sonic repaired himself, but we want an expert's opinion on the matter." Sally explained.
"Why would that be important though?" Mina asked. "I mean, why does it matter whether or not someone repaired Metal Sonic?"
"Well, if someone else repaired Metal Sonic, that means there is a very large possibility that someone may be planning to start some trouble." Sally explained. "If that is the case, then we need to be prepared."
"And if Metal Sonic repaired himself?" Mina asked.
"Then we don't have anything to worry about." Sally said.
"Well, let's hope that is the case, I don't think anyone wants another war to start any time soon." Mina said.
"That is something that we can both agree on."
The two continued to talk while eating for a little while, until they heard a knock at the door.
"Who could that be?" Sally said as she got up to answer the door.
When she got there, she was greeted but he worried look of Bunnie.
"I heard about what happened, are Mina and Tails alright?!" Bunnie asked frantically.
Putting aside the shock that Bunnie apparently knew about the incident from the previous night, Sally decided that calming her friend down was necessary. "Bunnie, please calm down. Tails got the worst of it, and the doctors said he is going to be just fine. As for Mina, she is in the other room eating right now."
That was all Sally needed to say before Bunnie charged into the castle and went to see Mina.
"Oh my gosh Mina! I am so sorry you had to go through that!" Bunnie said giving Mina a hug.
"Bunnie, it's ok, I'm fine!" Mina grunted out.
"But still, you must be feeling terrible right now! Just know that we are all here for you!" Bunnie said, continuing her hug.
"Thanks Bunnie, I really appreciate it…"
"So, I guess the news about the attack last night is already making its rounds?" Sally asked.
"Oh yeah, it was all over the news this morning!" Bunnie said. "As soon as I saw that Tails was hurt, I came here as fast as I could. Heck, Suger-Twan probably didn't realize I had left I ran out of there so fast!"
"Well, I am sure that Tails would appreciate it." Sally said. "Now, we are just eating some breakfast before going to the hospital, why don't you join us?"
"I would love to!" Bunnie said before pulling up a chair next to Mina.
The three girls then conversed about various topics, until Mina decided to have a bit of fun.
"Hey Bunnie, come here for a sec." Mina said before pulling her in.
"Just wanted to let you know, you owe me twenty bucks." She whispered into Bunnie's ear.
"What? Why would I…" Bunnie said before realizing what the girl meant. "OH MY GOSH WHAT?!"
"Whoa! What happened?!" Sally asked, confused about the outburst.
"YOU TELL ME!" Bunnie shouted. "WHAT HAPPENED DURING YOUR DATE LAST NIGHT?!"
It took a moment, but Sally realized what happened. "Really Mina? You couldn't wait for me to tell her the news?"
"Sorry, I couldn't resist!" Mina said with a laugh. "Just gonna say, I told you so Bunnie!"
"It was a lucky guess and you know it!" Bunnie said, starting to calm down a bit.
"Believe what you want to believe." Mina said.
"Can you two please explain what is going on?" Sally asked.
"I totally called the fact that Sonic was gonna propose to you last night, and Bunnie didn't believe me." Mina explained.
"Ah, ok." Sally said. "How did you figure that out?"
"Sally, we both have seen Sonic in a fancy restaurant before. He does not freak out about that kind of thing. So, what else would he of been freaking out over?" Mina asked.
"… Ooooooooh." Sally said. "Wow, I feel pretty dumb right now…"
"Girl, I just want to get one thing straight." Bunnie said.
"And that is…?"
"I am doing your hair for the wedding."
"I wouldn't expect anything less!"
After the girls finished eating their breakfast, they decided to start making their way over to the hospital.
"So, when do you think that you are gonna announce your engagement?" Mina asked.
"I'm not sure. I do know that we are probably going to wait until Tails gets out of the hospital though." Sally explained.
"Smart, I am sure he would want to be there."
"But what if… he doesn't…" Mina said.
"If he takes a while to wake up, we will still wait for him. It wouldn't feel right to hold the wedding without him." Sally explained. "He is like family, after all. That being said though, I am sure he will be up soon!"
"I hope so…" Mina said.
"Yeah, me too…"
When the three girls arrived at the hospital, they saw that Mr. and Ms. Prower were just leaving. After conversing with them and promising that they would let the Prowers know if anything happened, the three made their way to Tails' room.
When they arrived, they were happy to see that Sonic was already there.
"Hey girls, good to see you!" Sonic said waving to the three as they entered the room.
"Hey Sonic, how did things go with Shadow?" Sally asked, giving her fiancé a hug.
"Went about as well as you would expect. Shadow was being… Shadow… but I managed to convince him to come here with Omega's mechanic to take a look at Metal Sonic."
"Well that's good, at least they agreed to help." Sally said.
"Anything change with Tails?" Mina asked.
"Well, it might just be my imagination, but he seems a little bit more relaxed than he did last night." Sonic said.
"Really? He doesn't seem to be different to me." Sally said.
"I don't know why it feels that way, but it just does." Sonic said. "Again though, it might just be my imagination."
"Well, let's hope he wakes up soon." Bunnie said. "It feels terrible seeing him like this…"
"That is something we can all agree on." Sally agreed.
For a while, the group just sat around and watched Tails as he rested. They had a couple of conversations, mainly about the upcoming wedding, but nothing too long.
Before long, more of their friends began to come and visit. Starting with Rotor, as well as Nicole. Followed by Cream and her family. Antoine came by as well, and Bunnie decided to leave with him.
"Just let me know when he wakes up, ok?" Bunnie said to Mina.
"Of course." Mina responded.
Eventually, Amy showed up.
"I'm probably gonna stick around for the rest of the day." She said.
"You are more than welcome to." Sally said.
"So uh… how did your date go last night?" Amy asked.
"She said yes." Sonic said.
Amy just gave them a very… somber smile as she pulled Sonic and Sally into a hug.
"I am really happy for you two!" She said. "I wish you both the best."
"Thank you Amy, couldn't of done it without you." Sonic said.
"Anything for you guys." Amy said.
She then noticed that Mina was in the room.
'Guess his plan is gonna be put on hold for a while…'
At that moment though, Mina noticed something.
Tails began to move.
"Tails?" Mina asked as she walked over.
"Ugh… Mina?" Tails groaned out as he opened his eyes.
"Tails!" Mina said as she pulled Tails into a big, yet gentle, hug.
"H-hey… are you alright?" Tails asked.
"Am I alright?!" Mina asked. "You're the one who got sent to the hospital!"
"Oh… is that where I am?" Tails asked. "It's all just a blur…"
"Yeah… you saved me… thank you." Mina said.
Tails just smiled at this, not saying a word.
At this point, Sonic decided to speak up.
"Hey bud, how you feeling?" He asked.
"Tired… sore… curious."
"Curious?" Sonic asked.
"Did she say yes?"
It took Sonic a moment, but he eventually realized what the fox was asking, and couldn't help but laugh at this. "Yeah, she did."
"That's good…"
"You just focus on recovering so you can make the best man speech, ok?" Sonic said.
"You got it."
"Now, you should get some more…" Sally said.
"No… no, I'll be fine." Tail said, earning a surprised look from everyone.
"You sure dude? You were in really rough shape last night." Sonic said.
"Yeah, I just… want to talk… some more…" Tails said as he drifted off to sleep.
"… He was just acting tough." Sonic chuckled out. "Anyways, I should probs go tell doc and his parents that he woke up for a bit."
"You go tell his parents, I'll tell the doctor." Sally said.
"Alright, be back soon." Sonic said before leaving, Sally following.
"… Hey Amy?" Mina suddenly said.
"Yeah?"
"I need a favor."
