Author's Note: Woo-hoo! Here's the first chapter of the sequel
I know in the TFA series, the Battle of Iacon was over 2 million years ago, but since this is an AU I changed it up a bit.
Chapter summary: For some the assignment was boring, but for others, it was a respite.
"Hello" Normal talk.
"Hello" Talking through the bond.
"Hello" Com-link/Private Com-link.
"Hello" Thoughts.
Repairing space-bridges, that was the assignment Optimus and the other Autobots had been assigned to do, it depended on how one viewed it. Ome for example viewed it as an adventure since she loved Astronomy, Omega viewed it as a respite and to aid in his recovery from the physical and mental scars from the Battle of Iacon, Ratchet viewed it as mundane but also necessary so wasn't complaining. Unfortunately there were some who-
"Bored!"
Did not view the assignment as an adventure or a respite, they viewed it as boring.
Optimus gave a sigh and pinched the bridge of his nose "Bumblebee, please be quiet" he said.
"Oh come on Prime! This is so boring, I don't know what Ultra Magnus was thinking in assigning 'Bulky and I here" Bumblebee complained.
"It's not that bad lil buddy, kinda nice actually" Bulkhead replied, he and Bumblebee had originally been training under Sentinel to be part of the Elite Guard, but the yellow 'Bot kept getting into trouble a lot, to the point he got booted out. Bulkhead himself was 'too stupid and clumsy' from what Sentinel claimed, he had since gotten over it and actually preferred being with Optimus and the Autobots, it was a calmer and more friendly atmosphere.
"Well obviously you're gonna like it 'cause you're an expert on space-bridges! When the frag did you learn that kind of stuff?" Bumblebee asked.
Bulkhead shrugged "I had a lot of spare time on my hands" he replied "it's pretty fascinating stuff actually"
"Yeah if you're boring" Bumblebee grumbled as he plopped himself down next to his friend.
Ome actually breathed a sigh of relief when Bumblebee finally shut up "I thought he'd never shut up" she muttered as she rubbed her forehelm.
Omega gave a soft snort of amusement "He is young sweetspark, I think he still has quite the grudge with the Elite Guard over his termination, at least that's what Sigma tells me" he whispered to her.
"That's the bright side to having a family member in the Elite Guard, we get to hear all the gossip" Ome joked quietly.
Another soft snort of amusement "Yeah, either way just do your best to take no notice, young ones just have to let off steam sometimes" Omega replied in a hushed voice.
Ome huffed a little "If he puts a dent in you I'll put one in him" she replied quietly before she relaxed a little "how're you doing anyway? You sound more relaxed"
"I am actually" Omega admitted quietly "initially I wasn't too pleased that I would have to transform, since it's only been five months since the Battle of Iacon, and it was painful" there was a brief pause "but now, it feels nice to get to fly through space without limitations, it's giving me the respite that I need" as much as he called Cybertron home, it hadn't really done him much good in terms of his mental health, made worse by the fact his base was in Iacon. He had lost count on the amount of times he had woken up from a nightmare or had a flashback when walking through Iacon to visit Sigma, he had never showed it around his daughter since he didn't want her to worry about him, and the fact he still had the habit of concealing negative emotions and pain from the bond, but now, five months down the line they didn't occur everyday or night like they used to, and now that he was away from Cybertron on a year-long assignment, it was the respite he needed to recover not only physically, but mentally as well, of course he and his daughter still kept in touch with Sigma through their family bond to catch up on things or hear the latest Elite Guard gossip, a.k.a Sentinel making a fool out of himself.
Ome smiled and nodded "I'm glad" she replied quietly.
"I'll be alright" Omega assured softly "and what about you?"
"I'm doing better than I was, and I just love seeing all this" Ome replied quietly as she gestured to the view of space out the window, she was doing better compared to five months ago, there had been occasions where she would be sad or upset from the loss of nearly all her family from the Battle of Iacon, but her Sire and Uncle had always been there for her when she had those days so she could grieve, now though she felt more relaxed and felt happier these days.
"I'm glad to hear that sweetspark" Omega replied quietly, a clear smile in his voice "the last thing I would have wanted was for you to not grieve and bottle everything up, it would not have helped you in the long run"
Ome smiled a little and nodded "I know" she replied.
