Catastrophe

"Beautiful" he uttered, as the music that Ana played, reached his ears, connecting the two of them in this special way.

At one point his eyes had fluttered shut, while a smile graced his handsome face. She had an OK voice, but her piano playing was so magical that Christian was being

transported into another 'world'.

As far as he could remember, this was the first time in a very long time that he felt such calmness taking over his whole being.

All day long the only things on his mind were his empire and finding ways to make profit, and the second was possessing more stuff, and that included women.

(Well, he threw them 'away' after two or three times, so did they really count? He wasn't sure)

And none of those two things had ever made him feel this way... to be so at peace.

Wow... This seemingly single, heavily pregnant woman was amazing, wasn't she?

Meanwhile, Ana had a smile on her face too, but then choose that moment to look up from the piano and saw Christian sitting on the top of the stairs.

The second her eyes landed on his content face, she was startled and instantly stopped playing, because she didn't expect anyone to be there.

In response, his eyes flew open and as their eyes locked onto each other for a few moments, neither one of them knew what to do...

Ana immediately got up from the seat, and shook her head." I'm sorry to disturb you, Mr. Grey" she said, and already had taken a few steps away from the piano, but he shook his head.

"No, you weren't disturbing me, Miss Steele,"

She was unsure what to say or do next, and stopped in her tracks." I wasn't?" Ana asked, while giving him a questioning look.

He shook his head in response." NO, you weren't disturbing me. But I have to say... you are an exceptional, talented pianist, Miss Steele,"

As those words tumbled from his lips, even Christian was shocked... he had never complimented anyone, like literally anyone... EVER.

Even though his COO, staff and employees have helped him over the years to reach their company goals, making millions, he had never given them any compliments.

Never.

In response, Ana gave him a surprised look, and said." Thank you,"

Christian then walked down the stairs and when he had reached her, he asked." Why don't you take a seat. Play something? For me?"

"You're serious?"

"Uhuh," he replied, and grabbed a chair." I am,"

"OK... then,"

She did as he requested, and when the first note reached his ears, he closed his eyes for a moment." Beautiful,"

Ana chuckled at that, and played another song, unable to believe that such a hard-ass, snobby man had a weakness for music.

"Where did you study music, Miss Steele?" he asked, eyes locked on her.

As her fingers glided over the keyboard, she looked at him." I was five, when my father signed me up for my very first piano lessons," she told him.

"Wow... really? Did you like it?"

Ana nodded in response." Oh, yes... I fell in love with music right away."

Christian didn't know how, and for the life of him didn't understand why he was so captivated by this talented woman. She was a stranger indeed... he'd just met her only hours before.

And yet, he wanted to know more about her." So, I've noticed that you have a notebook and pen there?" he asked, and pointed at the items." So... are you a composer?"

In response, Ana stopped playing and said." Yes, I am,"

"So, the song you played first, it's your own creation then?" he asked curiously.

Ana nodded, and began to play again." It is,"

"It's very good, Miss Steele,"

"Well, thank you, Mr. Grey... for the compliment," She told him, and sighed deeply. Ana loved playing this marvelous instrument, but she had a feeling he was planning on asking more questions. She just wasn't up to it right now, and decided to say good night." You know what... I'm a little tired,"

Christian nodded." I can imagine," he told her, and got up from the chair.

Ana got up too, grabbed her notebook and pen, and said." Rest well,"

"I will... you too, Miss Steele," he replied, and watched how she slowly walked up the stairs, and disappeared into the hallway.

When he was sure that he was all alone, Christian cleared his throat and walked over to the piano.

As he played it, he got a bit annoyed at a certain point. Why?

Well, compared to him, Ana's piano skills were masterly! And they were indeed. She was an extraordinary piano player.

"I could listen to her play all day," he whispered, and decided then to go to his private Gym on the third floor.

Usually, he woke up at 5 AM to workout. But because he was wide awake, he didn't want to go back to bed... especially, after his encounter with Ana.

"Early work-out it is," he uttered, and prepared himself mentally and his body to tackle another workday.

He had meetings with the board, two partners and three clients, barely having time left for lunch, but this was what Christian lived for.

Well, that was before he met a certain, pregnant brunette... one that was going to flip his life upside down without either one knowing it... yet.

~ Approximately five hours later ~

..

During the car ride, Ana sat silently in the back seat of the white SUV, feeling a bit sad.

Right after Gail had told her who was the previous owner of the maternity clothes that she had worn the evening before, Ana pulled Gail into a tight embrace.

They talked a bit after that, and said their goodbyes, because Taylor was already waiting for Ana downstairs to take her to her new 'home.'

And now here she was, on her way to the house.

Mr. Harris had called Ana not so long ago, and told her that he was on his way too... he didn't have much time, so she should hurry to meet with him. He planned on giving her the keys to the house that she just bought.

As a sigh escaped her lips, Ana clutched her notebook to her chest with one hand and with the other, she lovingly caressed her round tummy." You are healthy, my strong boy" were the words that tumbled from her lips, voice soft.

"Excuse me, Miss Steele?" she heard Taylor say.

As she looked up, Ana saw that he was looking at her via the rear view mirror." Did you say something to me, ma'am?"

Ana shook her head in response." No, I was speaking to my..." she hesitated for a second, and then continued." to my unborn baby"

He smiled in response, and nodded." Yes, they can hear everything,"

"They can, Tay..." Ana said, but was cut off by her phone ringing aloud." Sorry, I have to take this call"

"Of course,"

"Hello, Ana speaking,"

"Miss Steele! Where are you? OH, GOD, this is a catastrophe!" she heard Mr. Harris say in a panicked manner.

"Mr. Harris, are you alright?" she questioned, brows furrowed, a bit concerned." Where are you? What happened?"

He did answer her questions. However, Ana couldn't make much out of his incoherent sentences." Wait a moment, sir... explain, please? Are you alright? Do you need help?"

At one point, she heard him even sob. That's when Ana got very worried." Taylor, I think we..." she started, but he cut her off.

"Oh my God," she heard Taylor say, making her look out the window.

As Ana saw the sight in front of her, tears began to pool in her blue eyes." Nooo, my h..."

The SUV barely came into a halt, when she stepped out of it with difficulty." Mr. Harris," she uttered, and that's when he turned around to face Ana.

He still had his phone in his hand, and gave her a devastating look, head shaking." I'm so so sorry, Miss Steele," he said, and then looked at the damage again.

Ana shook her head, and let her tears flow... this wasn't happening to her. Why?!

As a loud sob escaped her lips, her teary eyes were still fixed onto her 'new' home...

"No, noo... no, nooo" she uttered, while Mr. Harris tried to calm her down, holding her by the arm.

"How did this happen?! How did this tree fall on my house?!" She shouted hysterically, shaking her head, not wanting to accept this was really happening.

Taylor had gotten out of the SUV, and fortunately caught Ana, because her knees gave out at that moment.

"Let's get you inside the car, so you can sit, Miss Steele," he told her, and led her to it.

"But, but m- my house! MY HOUSE, TAYLOR! LOOK AT IT!" Ana sobbed aloud, while giving him a desperate look." IT WAS STANDING LAST EVENING, AND LOOK AT IT NOW! IT'S go... gone!"

Just like that, Ana had lost the one thing she considered her safe haven. This was supposed to be her fresh start... A new beginning for her, and her unborn child, but even this has been taken away from her... WHY was fate being so cruel to her? Why?!

It took only one rainstorm and a big tree, and here she was; homeless, and nowhere to go...

In the last few months, she had experienced only setbacks. First, she lost the man she loved. They'd been together, since they both attended college... Luke Sawyer. (And she really thought that he LOVED her too! But man, was she wrong about that)

And then two weeks after that, she was let go by her employer, even though she had worked there for four years!

That had been very disappointing, but Ana had convinced herself at the time that she was now free to pursue her dream job... and that was to become a successful composer/ songwriter.

She was really determined to succeed, and had even sent demos of two of her songs to a music producer. Unfortunately, two months has passed by, and Ana still hadn't heard from him yet.

"Miss Steele, please... I need you to walk with me," she heard Taylor say, and when she looked at his empathetic face, Ana shook her head.

"I cannot... I can't take this anymore," Ana whispered, while the light in her eyes gradually faded.

"Don't give up, Miss Steele," he told her, and led her to the SUV." There's always a solution to every problem,"

However, Ana was unable to process one more misfortune in her life, and shook her head again, eyes fixed on what used to be a house.

One moment she was staring at her damaged home, the next, she felt herself slipping away, and then it went dark before her very eyes...

The last thing Ana heard was Taylor ordering Mr. Harris to call 911...
