Chapter Nine:
Darkness, that was all Jake could see for miles. He could feel someone behind him, but every time he turned to see who it was, he would continue to see darkness. Whenever he did, he would feel two people appear on each side of him before disappearing. Deep inside, he knew not to be afraid of them, well, one of them, that is. He knew to be cautious of the other and keep his guard up, but he didn't know why or how he knew this.
"Hello?" Jake called out. He wondered where the mystery woman was and why wasn't she there. 'What happened to the girl? Maybe she's the one behind me? But why would she hide now? Are there two of them now, or are there two?' He wondered. Before he could call out again, he heard a voice. "She's coming."
Jake looked around, wondering where the voice was coming from. To him, the voice sounded distant and distorted. 'This is new.' He thought to himself. 'She's coming!' He heard again, but this time it was a different voice, and more importantly, it was unfamiliar, but for some reason, he felt as if he knew who they were.
"Jake."
There it is again, but this time, they were yelling his name. They sounded scared and in a hurry, but he didn't know why, and surprisingly he couldn't find it in himself to care. He just wanted to stay asleep and find the mystery girl, hoping that she was okay, especially how the dream progressed.
"Jake!"
Okay, now they were starting to piss him off!
"JAAAKE!"
Jumping awake with a shout of surprise, Jake, not realizing that he was just centimeters and seconds away from headbutting Spud, wondered who was yelling his name and why?! Glaring at Spud while holding back a snarl, he was going to demand what his problem was when he noticed something odd.
Looking around, he realized he was still on the roof, where he could only assume G and Spud hid; not back in his apartment and in his bed like he thought he was. He wondered how long he was asleep and what they did: they either waited for him to wake up or tried to force him awake; by the way he woke up, he was going to guess it was the second option.
'When did I fall asleep, or did she knock me out from that hit?!' He wondered as he rubbed where she hit him; he could still feel the dull throbbing. He couldn't tell if he was unconscious for a short amount of time or the hit he took was harder than he thought! 'This is gonna leave a bruise!' He thought angrily.
He glanced towards the griffin before flying off after his grandpa with Spud on his back. As he flew, he thought about his earlier discussion with Kagome, Trixie, and Spud.
~ Flashback ~
Jake couldn't help but grin as he circled around the shikigami that looked like him. "This could help me sooo much with school and dragon duties. Does it develop its own personality, or would it copy mine?" He asked Kagome curiously, never taking his eyes off of the shikigami. His mind was already full of ideas of everything he could do and how much easier things would be.
"It will copy your personality but each shikigami relies on my spiritual energy," Kagome explained to him. Jake nodded having remembered a lesson gramps taught him about spiritual energy years ago, why? He had no idea.
"Let's save it as a last resort," Jake responded with a slight smile as he watched the shikigami disappear.
